My husband and I are very excited about our baby! It is our first and we are so excited! The thought of a human being growing in my body is so wonderful that words can not explain! He is very happy as well, and is ready to be a father. God has blessed us with this child and we are ready for this new and exciting lifestlye. !

Birth Story

Well I can't remember everything but what I do remember I will write. On Tuesday night, I finally went to the hospital after having strong pressure in my lower abdomen for the whole day. I didnt think it as going to be labor because my water had not broken yet and I didnt feel constant contractions. We went to the hospital and they checked my cervix and I was only 1-2 centimeters dialated. Then they hooked me up to monitor me in order to see if I was having contractions. The nurse came back to my room and asked me If I was feeling those contractions. I told her I got the urge to pee and she said that thats what they felt like in the beginning. So they started an IV with fluids and she said tat if the fluids stopped the contractions, it was false labor, well it didn't, sure enogh they kept on going and they got worse and longer. They checked my cervix again and this time they told me I was 2-3 but 100% effaced! They gave me the option of going to the hospital where I was registered to deliver at and I decided to go. We left at about 4 in the morning and at 7:30a.m they told me I was being admitted into the hospital and that I was at 4cm. I was having contractions and then I cant remember that much. They cheked me again and I was still at 4cm so they had to break my water!!! They lied telling me it wouldn't hurt, it hurt soooooo much!!! I know I finally got the epidural and it was painless! I felt like I wanted to go to sleep but I started to itch, they said that the epidural did that. It was so uncomfortable. My husband said that the epidural pump said the word STOPPED almost the whole time! So when the nurse asked if I wanted more, she said why is this turned off? I dont remember that, my husband does lol. At about 7cm I could feel everything again! That epidural to me didn't last long. They said the head was soo low, it was lowering faster than the cervix could dialate! My husband helped me push for a couple of times then the nurse had the doc come in and we started hehe. It hurt soooooo bad!!! Finally after like 12 pushes, he was out!!! Our beautiful baby boy! It was awesome, I was crying!! My husband cut the cord of course and we were so happy, our new family! So a vaginal delivery for me, thank god!

* 7/15/07 - I'm going to my next ultrasound in two days!! I'm so excited. We are going to be able to see a lot more than what we saw the first time. The first time, I was 8 weeks. My husband is going to see if they let him record the heart beat and ultrasound with my digital camera since the place we are going to does not do the VHS recording. Well, see ya later

* 7/17/07- Oh my god! The ultrasound was awesome! As soon as they started, the baby was "jumping" everywhere! Moving like crazy and it waved his/her arms and hands! It was so incredible! We go tto see its butt lol. Two small butt cheecks :-) They gave me the best pictures and one of them he/she was sucking it's thumb!!!! I love it. They didn't do the sound but it is ok, I have heard the heartbeat already. They said the heartbeat was very strong 178 :-) I love it!

* It was August 16, 2007 at 1 in the morning. I was at the hospital with my husband becuse I had a pain by my bladder. They wanted to make sure the baby was ok so they ran tests and did an ultrasound as well. At the time I was 16 weeks (4 months) and a couple o days so I had a feeling they would be able to tell the sex of our baby. First we saw the baby sucking its thumb, literally!! We saw the jaw moving up and down! It was awesome. Then the baby moved into a more relaxing state, the hand behind the head thing. lol Then the guy asked us if we really wanted to know if it was a boy/girl. We said ys of course. Then he showed us and he said definite BOY!!!!!!!! We are so excited!!!!

* 9-8-07 I felt the baby kick!!!!! He is kicking alot and I love it!!! I love the feeling!

* 12-27-07 Today was the greatest day!!! I went for my regular check up to the doctor with my mom, little niece and nephew. When I got in, the doctore did an internal exam to make sure everything is ok and told me that the head was right there and that he was definetly coming out before my due date, at least 10 days before!!! I'm so excited!!! He said, "the head is very low". My husband and I are just finishing up his room and we will be ready to go !!! :-)

* 3-3-08 Well Devon just got his 2month shots today :-( it was horrible to see him cry like that :-( but now he is fine and ready to go out! He is growing so fast! Hey there! I'm sorry they're not giving those classes! I remember what a mission it was to find good classes that weren't closed. I don't know why I've been having a mind block as to all the classes I took, I tried to find some papers but I couldn't.. :( I know I took Abnormal Psychology. If Professor Bunce is still teaching there, he is the BEST! I loved him. I think it's Andrew Bunce. Well, let me know what you're thinking about and I'll try to tell you what I know but honestly, psychology is the BEST, I really don't think there's too many bad classes, they're all fascinating! Enjoy them! I hope your weekend was as great as my lazy weekend was. :) I'll talk to you soon. Take care!

I also did not have any morning sickness that was great as with my first child also a girl a had terrible morning sickness. My sister Elane is also pregnant with twins and she have severe morning sickness and she is now 13weeks pregnant. I can see that your husband is from South Africa by his name and your surname. Have a great day and you can ask anything we are more willing to help or give advise or just to talk when you need to

Of course I'll help you. I mean I did graduate in 2004, so I hope nothing has changed! :) Which classes are you looking into? Some I've taken that I really liked are Psychology of Women, and especially helpful and interesting right now would be Psychology of Infants and Children, Child Psychopathology, and... I don't know right right now, I can't remember but those are three I LOVED! Let me know what you're thinking about taking and I'll tell you if I know anything about it! Good luck!! Take care...

Hey there, i'm feeling so terrible- I decided to cook cottage pie - mince with mashed potato on top grilled in the oven. Only problem is - I made chips the other day and one must've fallen under the grill cos the kitchen is filled with wierd smelling potato smoke! ugh. Hope I can eat dinner now :( on a lighter note: I have had the best weekend ever! last night we went to my mad friend Cristine and her hub Ryans house up in the mountains - Botha's Hill (really cold!!) we had a HUGE dinner and way to many choc brownies and then played some video games, I lost -shamefully - and blamed the pregnant porridge brains... well, we were all sitting around and in true africa style a HUGE spider came into the house. This thing was like half as long as my finger and covered in a fine blue fur, with red feet! we laughed cos it looked like a spiderman tarantula! well, you can imagine the drama of getting this thing out of the house! I had my camera with me and i filmed the whole thing, it is possibly the funniest thing i've ever seen! Four adults screaming like babies. My friend Cristine threw it out of a plastic container and then thought that it landed back on her so she ran screaming back into the house, my pants fell down around my ankles (post-dinner unzipped...)her hubby fell over backwards and my man was as far away fromt the ''spider'' as he could be. it's so funny! And then today I was a VIP guest at one of the hugest airshows in Africa, my dad is a pilot and airplane mechanic and owns an aviation business. It was so nice being spoiled with hectic catering and loads of free drinks (orange juice for me i'm afraid) I saw fighter jets screaming overhead and 747's flying so low I could see the pilot! My hub could't come so we were given VIP passes for tomorrow too :) I even managed to eat a lamb bredie (soft yummy lamb with a thick juicy tomato based sauce - eaten by the cape-coloured people - a stunning dish. I'm too lazy to write this all out again so I'm going to be really cheeky and post it on yours and janelles's page ;P Keep well and have a fun weekend :) :) Sands xx

janelle19 - Friday, 13 Jul
Hello! Actually, I got my B.A. in psychology. I LOVED it! So interesting. That's what I would REALLY like to do but so far it just hasn't worked out that way. IF you're still studying at FIU, I have advice... get involved with stuff, do experiments, see if you're teachers need help or SOMETHING because there are A LOT of psych students and you REALLY need that something extra to put on a resume. I never did that. So, right now I'm working for my father in exporting to the caribbean. :P Pays good but not my dream. We'll see where life takes me. GOOD LUCK in psych!! Talk soon...

sandy - Friday, 13 Jul
yesterday was baaaad as far as food goes. I went to a restaurant with the old ladies (mom gran and aunt) and ordered a welsh rarebit (its a toasted bread with banana and bacon on top with a thick cheese sauce over it - then grilled till it's crispy yum!!) The waitress was winking her eye at me and smiling - when they brought the plate there was like three times as much as usual on the plate!! I couldn't finish it all ( i tried tho ;) only afterwards the waitress told me that she knew me because i went there so often last year, and she told the kitchen staff that i was back and pregnant! so the chef made a triple order as a gift. i nearly popped! After that we went to another restaurant and I had a huge scone with creamand jam. this thing was massive, like 10cm across! as long as my hand! I nearly died. My hub ate the left overs later at home :) I got home and had some bread and then made a big pot of soup. Needless to say I was so uncomfortable last night, felt like a balloon. oh ya, we got all nesty and attacked our spare room throwing out so much stuff! now at least we can get inside it to start setting up for baby! chat later hey, go to www.facebook.com it is amazing, you can look for me there Sandy Doherty-Bigara it's the most awesome thing ever - better than myspace. cheers

janelle19 - Thursday, 12 Jul
Hi Cynthia! Yeah! I graduated from FIU! :) Tomorrow I'll be 12 weeks and I am SOO happy about that! I am starting to feel less sick, yesterday and today NO nausea!! YEAH!! I can't wait till I find out, I think maybe in six weeks, I'll find out if it's a girl or a boy. I want a girl and I keep calling the baby a she, but obviously, I'll be happy either way. I finally bought maternity clothes the other day, and they feel SOO good, I was so tired of walking around with my pants unbuttoned! :P Well, thanks for writing me, and KIT! It's nice to have people to talk to about this, the good days and bad days! Take care of yourself!! Talk soon....

sabrina-3 - Thursday, 12 Jul

(Nice to hear compliments from soneone other than your mother :) I'll see what else I have. i spent the entire day with my mom, gran and great aunt. It was so hectic! they all know way to much about me... like 26 years worth of stuff! We went up to hillcrest, it is a stunning place wuite high up so teh air is really cold and it's like a farm area with lots of trees, we ate way to much food and bought too many things! I got two little recieving blankets, so cute :) hey, if you want to type me at my gmail account it's cool, I check most days. keep well, Sands xx oh ya, this baby is stretching me! it's sore :/ ah well. I suppose I really am just a glorified ''apartment'' for the next 6months. ha ha. bye

Sandy - Wednesday, 11 Jul
Hey J! you would've laughed at me though, I had big blonde hair and a black hairband with a sparkling bow on it, a HUGE red satin elvis shirt, a short black skirt, white socks and black shoes... embarassment is!! I had to play the part of the dumb blonde. It was a comedy so the outfit passed for ok. I still can't hear any elvis numbers without going through all the moves in my head. do you have email? cos I could send you an MP3 of one of my Jazz recordings - you can tell me what you think :)

Mar - Tuesday, 10 Jul
Congratulations!! I am also having a boy.

Hiya, well still early days but good luck for the rest of the pregga, it is such an awesome, unbelievable experience :) South africans are really cool ppl i got to say!! My hubby is a full on frenchman (moods and all) but I love him and they make beautiful babies - haha.

Sandy - Monday, 9 Jul
A music major that's cool :) Where did your hubby grow up? I'm from Durban Pinetown to be exact, very beautiful place - our valley is mostly a nature resrve which means lots of monkeys!! If you wanna read my blog and see what goes on (it's a laugh) go to www.sandydohertybigara.blogspot.com leave a comment... at least then ONE person will have read it ha ha. I'm a trained Opera singer but I'm singing Jazz at the moment with a band - I've just finished a very embarrassing Elvis Presley Show - let's not go there!! I also teach music - I've taught Music at our local University/college and I teach music and acting at a private school. I love it! I'm so excited I've got my second scan on friday the 20th july - soon! Last time at 8 weeks my babe jumped around until it was time for the picture and then when she took the still it fell asleep! So it looks like a bean. eish. my friend is four days behind me and her scan was like a text book scan, a little eye and all the arms, legs etc. only my child would fall asleep against the side so we couldn't see it!! anyway, hope you have an awesome day. I love the song you have playing!! who is is sung by? I've never heard it. bye :)
