Boy has this been a whirlwind of a year! My husband and I got married in September 2006. Began building our house in November 2006 and then found out that I was pregnant the beginning of June 2007. My first reaction to seeing the double blue line was awe and disbelief. In fact, it took me 7 positive pregnancy tests to finally convince myself and believe that I was indeed pregnant! Even walking into my first ultrasound appointment at 9 weeks, I was sure that the technician was going to tell my husband and me that I was not pregnant, but thank goodness we walked out the door with a printed out photo of our little one.

For me the weeks have been going by slow. Perhaps it is because I wake up every morning anticipating looking more and more pregnant. I view pictures of other women's pregnant bellies and dream of the day that I too will look pregnant, as opposed to just looking as if I spent a little too much time at the dessert table!

My husband and I have decided not to find out the sex of our baby. The main reason for my wanting to wait is that I always ruin surprises by either opening up the corner of a wrapped present or just plain guessing. I figured that this was the one and only thing in life that could remain a true surprise; that is as long as one of the ultrasound technicians doesn't blurt it out by accident!

Shortly after I found out that I was pregnant, I had a dream that I was having a little boy. The following week I had to stop by a rental shop and dead smack in front of my parking space was for rent, a 4 foot tall wooden stork exclaiming "It's a Boy!". So I have taken those signs and have convinced myself that I am having a boy. That and everyone I know has guessed a boy. No one on earth thinks it will be a girl. What a shock that will be if the Dr calls out "It's a Girl!"

As for how my pregnancy is going....pretty good overall. I was one of the lucky few who didn't have to deal with morning sickness. I was a bit tired in the very beginning and my appetite increased over night. In my mind I was hoping that the more I ate, the sooner I would be able show-off my pregnant belly, but that hasn't been the case! The only main problem I have had thus far was a slightly elevated AFP reading for Spina Bifida. I have had two level 2 ultra sounds since getting the test results back and the Dr's have examined everything and said that the spine and brain look great! But let me tell you, I was worried sick over that fool test.

I am now 21 weeks pregnant and still waiting to show-perhaps next week??

Okay, so it is now next week (22 weeks) and although my husband says I look pregnant and I think I look pregnant when naked, I am still not sure that strangers can really tell that there is indeed a baby growing inside of me...and not just a growing waistline!

Boy is the baby kicking now! I first felt the baby kick at around 18 weeks, but it wasn't really anything I could rely on feeling since the kicks went almost unnoticed. But now in my 22nd week there is no mistaking the little "guy" moving around inside.

Week 23! There is no mistaking my being pregnant now! From my head down to my toes, I look pregnant- I was really hoping I would be all belly, but at 5'2'' there really isn't much room for the weight to spread out. But it's worth it- I have a beautiful and wonderful miracle growing inside and before I know it my pregnancy stage will be over and I will be back in my skinny jeans- Yippie!

I have another level 2 ultrasound tomorrow. The doctors are keeping a close eye on my blood circulation (since they had noticed that it had not matured when I went for my AFP reading) to the baby and making sure the baby is getting enough oxygen and nutrition. As much of a drag as it is to go to the Dr every 2 weeks, I am very thankful that they take such care and interest, providing the baby and me with the best care possible. Not only that, but I have great ultrasound pictures to document my baby's development.

Overall my Dr appointment went well. I had a level 2 ultra sound to follow-up on my blood circulation to the baby. The Dr told me that the blood flow in the umbilical artery, the one that feeds the baby was great and that the baby is growing as should be (weighs 1 lb 5 ounces). However, there was a notch in the ovarian artery indicating that later on in my pregnancy I may develop preeclampsia. There is not much that can be done just yet, just wait and keep an eye on things. I was just happy to find out that the artery feeding my baby is doing it's job! My Bestfriend Kimberly and Me!

This past week has been a tough one. I had the flu shot 2 weeks ago and have been suffering symptoms from that for a whole week now. I finally decided to go to the Dr.today due to an unbearable earache. The Dr. prescribed me some amoxicillin and I can't wait for it to take the pain away from my earache and hopefully clear up the cough that has been haunting me for the past week as well. Aside from being sick the past week, I have made it to WEEK 24! I have noticed strangers being extremely polite and going out of their way to assisst me- I guess they are able to notice my pregnant belly!

25 weeks pregnant and showing!

After 2 full weeks of being sick with the flu, a terrible cough and fluid in the ear, I am finally feeling much better. I was hoping to lose a few pounds over the course of being sick, since most people do- But me, of course not! When I am sick I tend to eat more- What's with that?

So I am beginning to feel a bit overwhelemed with all the jobs that still need to be done on the house. Like I said, my husband and I built a house and we have yet to complete the upstairs. We had a carpenter come over the other day to help design the layout of the upstairs. I am really excited and pleased with what we decided to do. So now that we have the design, we need the framing, sheetrock, carpeting, plumbing, heating, lighting, painting and of course decorating! My the list never ends! On top of that, there is still quite a bit that needs to be done on the downstairs. I suppose I need to stop looking at the HUGE To Do List and focus on one thing at a time. Thank goodness we have families that like to help, otherwise I don't think there would be any light at the end of the tunnel.

Little Scooter (that's what my mom has named the baby) has been kicking all the time. I love feeling Scooter move because it reassures me that he/she is doing just fine. I am really starting to feel pregnant now. Although I don't feel as if my belly is as cute as most of the other women's. I feel as if I am carrying extra low. In fact, last week Scooter was kicking all the way down by my pelvic bone. I thought for sure he/she was on the way out! LOL! I know that sounds ridiculous, but then again, I am a first time mom to be. 15 more weeks to go!

I am now 26 weeks pregnant and can feel baby Scooter kicking all the time. Sometimes Scooter kicks so hard that I actually let out a little yelp! Most of the time I feel kicks in the lower region of my stomach, down near my pelvic area. I am going to ask my Dr. if that could possibly mean that the baby is in a breech position. When I look in the mirror at my belly it appears that I am carrying low, perhaps that could be related to the baby's postion. I guess I will have to ask my Dr. at tomorrow's visit.

My Dr's appointment went well. I addressed my concern about the baby kicking extra low and my Dr told me that it was normal. But wouln't you know that as soon as I left the office, I began to feel kicks up by my bellybutton and around my ribs!

I had to have the sugar glucose test and I have to admit that the sugar water wasn't all that bad. Mine was Fruit Punch flavored, one of my favorites, so I had no problem sucking it down.

My husband has been able to feel the baby kick for the past few days. It is so neat that he can finally be a part of the pregnancy in a more intimate way. However, one thing he teases me about that he can do that I can't is that he can kiss the baby. I find it so sweet and endearing when you talks and kisses my belly. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful husband who takes so much interest in the baby and me. In fact, he makes it a point to be at all of the Dr. appointments. I know he is only tagging along because he knows I hate the fact that he gets to watch me step on the scale and see just how much weight I am gaining! LOL! In all honesty, he could really care less about my weight gain. He just wants his wife and baby to be healthy. He tells me all the time that I am beautiful and he loves every inch of my body. The only problem is that I have a hard time believing that, but I guess most women do. I suppose we need to learn to embrace ourselves and stop comparing ourselves to the stick skinny models on the cover of magazines. Most of the time they have been airbrushed and their bodyparts rearranged by computer!! LOL! I am beginning to ramble so I am going to put a stop to all my nonsense....until next time~!

I guess I got a bit tired of journaling........

RYLAND CHASE

February 14, 2008

3:28 pm

5 lbs 14 oz

20.5 inches

I ended up being induced a week early due to our baby measuring a bit on the small side. My Dr said it was protocol to induce if an ultrasound revealed that a baby fell below the 10Th percentile. I was admitted Tuesday, Feb. 11Th and the induction process began Wednesday morning. The whole process was very slow and grueling. It took my body forever to kick in and go into labor. Up until Thursday afternoon, my cervix remained locked and stayed at a steady 1 cm dilated even though I was having extremely strong contractions every minute. Around 2 pm Thursday it decided to loosen and measured a bit over 2. At that point I had a stadol to help with all of the pain. An hour later (3pm) my nurse decided to check me to see if I had made any progress and to our surprise, I was 9 cm dilated and the baby was crowning (which meant I missed the window of opportunity for an epidural). My nurse ran out into the hall and called the resident nurse in (since my Dr was at his office at a different location) the neonatologist and the OR doctors. I managed to hold-off delivering until my Dr arrived (ten minutes later). During all of this, the baby`s heart-rate dropped to 60 beats per minutes, so it was crucial to get the baby out quickly-The Dr`s were on the verge of performing an emergency C-section right there in my room! My Dr arrived just in time and with a few hard-core pushes and the help of a vacuum, our baby was born. Ryland was checked over and taken out of the room, so I missed out on the whole initial bonding process, something I was really looking forward to. After 45 minutes of being stitched back up(I had extreme tearing), Ryland was brought back into my room and I was able to begin bonding. We have been home for a week and a half now, and our little man couldn`t be doing any better. He is the love of my life and I would do it all over again :o)

Hey :) How is Ryland eating today? any better?

janelle19 - Thursday, 18 September
Hi there! We're doing wonderfully. Gavin is JUST starting to really crawl. I LOVE this time. He's so awesome. How is Ryland? Are you having fun? If I lived up north, I would be SOO excited for fall. Is it already feeling much cooler up there? Of course, down here, we don't really get the seasons but I am looking forward to the 1 or 2 days a year when we have cold weather. We've been pretty busy lately. I try to go out now as much as possible because it just gets pretty boring (for both of us) inside all day. He loves to be out and about. But then, we end up spending more money. OOPS! Well, I hope you are doing great. Give Ryland a BIG hug from Gavin and me. Let me know how you're doing. Take care!! J

Ya most of the times the pain will go away when you have your period if not before. I even feel better tonight than i did this morning. My side where my ovaries are just feels like i have a cramp like when your running and get one, its uncomfortable but not painful. But last night was HELL...i thought i was dying haha. When you were hurting was it durning or after sex? Sorry if thats too personal, my doctor just said it common for it to really hurt after or durning sex if you have one that pops. when do you go to the doctors next? If its soon, maybe just talk to him and see and maybe he will set up an ultrasound for you to check. I was told that if you have one theres usually alittle fluid left so you can tell if it was a cyst and its good to make sure there isnt anymore.
Hows Ryland doing? Is he getting into everything now that he can move himself around?!...Austin still hasnt gottan the hang of his jumperoo yet, he likes all the music and toys that are on it but still doesnt know how to jump haha hopefully he will get the hang of it soon! Cause he loves it when i move his feet for him and hes bouncing he just laughs away!

Maybe then you can wait an hour and see if that works! Hopefully thats all it is. I also noticed that Nathan doesn't like to eat much during the middle of the day. I noticed he would eat 7 oz in the morning and 7 oz at night and all his cereal's and solids, but in the middle of the day he would only take like 4 oz or sometimes he even took only 3. Babies are so damn hard to figure out!!!! Anyways, have fun with your girls~ :)

By the way, before Ryland started crawling, was he just rocking back and forth? Nathan pushes himself backwards thats about it, but today he started trying to rock on hands and knees, is that a sign??

mizzsnazzy - Wednesday, 17 September
Dannie, I'm in no means a doctor, but I honestly don't think there is anything wrong with Ryland. I was just going to say that remember when Ryland did this before, but then read on and you said it yourself. There were days where Nathan wanted nothing to do with his food, and only had 12 oz or so. I don't know if I understood this right, but when you say he woke up at 7 and had the 1 tbsp of cereal and 4 oz, did he have the cereal first and then formula? When Nathan wakes up, I give him just the bottle first and wait half hour-45 min to give him cereal. I do this with all feeds, I give the bottle, and always solids half hour later because this way he can get hungrier for next feed rather than getting fed every few hours like most people do. Some babies just stay full longer. This is what my schedule is like when he doesn't eat..
7:30- 7 oz bottle
8:00- cereal with veggies
12:00pm- 6 oz
12:30- fruit/veggies
4:00- 6 oz bottle
7:30- 7 oz bottle half hour after cereal with fruit/veggies.

But these past few days he has been eating okay so I added a jar of fruit at 10:00am, and when 12:00pm rolls around he only drinks 4-5 oz instead of the usual 6. Most of the time it's only 4 oz that he eats though. I'm okay with that since it's only one bottle he would be drinking less off.

I worry all the time just like you do because there are days where he eats fine, and then there are days where he just doesn't want much at all! It's soo frustrating, and you have no idea how many times I took him in with this concern, all I get is "he's okay, he's gaining weight, and if he has enough poopy + wet diapers, he's fine".

What I would do though is offer him water and keep him hydrated since he isn't taking as much formula. I would give it a day or two and then take him in to see if possibly maybe something is bothering him. Hopefully he eats better for you. I know how frustrating it is, I want to scream sometimes when I'm feeding Nathan.

Thank you.....Dannie

Haha no problem, hope your having a good day! Were off to get some pictures done for Austin, hope he stays in a good mood!
Ohh ya and i made a mistake in your last message, Austin was 75th percentile for his weight and head not his height. Hes only in the 50th percentile for his height, he has such short little legs like his mama!

MTNWOMAN - Tuesday, 16 September
Feeding to sleep, my only concern is that if Ry has or is getting teeth, they should be brushed or rubbed with a wash cloth after his bottle so the milk/formula isn't sitting on them at night. I know my sister would feed her little girl to sleep at night. She would hold her and rock her with her bottle until she fell asleep and I know she still did it up until at least a year old. Really, its a personal choice, but I chose not to feed him to sleep after seeing my sister having to do it for so long. But the teeth thing is the biggest issue if you do, otherwise there isn't a problem with it. As far as I'm concerned!

lynna - Tuesday, 16 September
I read your post about how much you feed Ryland and I think it sounds good... One thing I would keep in mind. Is that the solids are only for practice. I was always under the impression that the formula/BM is better nutrition wise. So when I am feeding Elijah I make sure he gets his milk first and foremost. Just my opinion and thats just what I do with my boy.

ragtopgirl - Tuesday, 16 September
Hi I seen your coment on feedings and this is what works for me: Bobby gets up anywhere form 6:00-8:00am ( I give him 7oz and then feed him some fruit or veggies mixed with cereal. Another bottle about 4 hrs later around 11:00/noon. At about 3:00/4:00pm he's hungry so we do the cereal with fruit or veggies again and another bottle with 7oz. Another bottle around 8:00pm and some ceral ect. I give him another bottle around 11:00pm. He ws born Jan 30th. He was 28 inches 6 weeks ago and weighed 21lbs. He's longer and heavier now. Hubby is 6'5 so he's going to be a tall little man according to the DR. Chek out my pics. hope this helps. Sometimes I sub Apple juice instead of a bottle or water if he will take it. I always feed him before he goes down to sleep. He eats ,I burp him and he crashes on my shoulder. The newest thing is small ice chips! He loves them! I bite small pieces and give them to him and he feels better becasue of the teething thats going on.

austinsmummy - Tuesday, 16 September
Hey! How are you doing today?..It must be nice that your husband is home now and you get alittle break! I sure hope you went out and treated yourself with a manicure and pedicure! What is the Little Gym class? Is it just for babies? I wish we had something like that here. To kill time durning the days i pretty much do the same things as you, except we live in an apartment right now so we dont have our own yard..I hate it! Sometime early next year though we are gunna buy a house so im definatlly looking forward to that. So we go for lots of works and to parks and stuff too to get outside.
That is really cool that you are redecorating Rylands room to a vintage cowboy theme, you will definatlly have to post some pictures once you get it all decorated!
How much did Ryland weigh at his 6 month check up?..We had our doctors apt today and he was 17 lbs 11oz and was 28 inches and his head was 45 cm. I was worried that he was small for his age because i have had a few people say that he was small even though he doesnt look like it to me, he totally looks healthy for his age! You know strangers though they love to comment on things haha...But he was 75th percentile on his height and his head and 50% for his weight so he must be okay!
Also i was in the 7 month page just snooping and reading along lol and saw your post about feeding a bottle before naptimes and bedtimes, I always do..otherwise its really hard to get austin down..i dont think its anything to worry about. I know a couple people said you should change your routine but if it works for you stick with it!..I think its good and it gives him a chance to settle down, cuddle and fall alseep, otherwise i feel for us anyways it would be alot harder to get him to winned down.
Also today when we were at my doctors i told him i was alittle concerned that Austin isnt eating as much formula in a day now that hes on solids and he told me at this age the less formula is better!..He said if hes eating lots of solids it way better for him and has way more iron in all the foods hes eating than formula. Austin is all over the place with how much formula he has in a day but usually its about 20 oz and my doctor said that was perfect and would be concerned if he was eating like 40 oz. So i guess i dont need to be so worried. Do you always feed him a solid at lunch time? I never do because than he he will have like 14ish oz a day. Im trying to figure out if i should or not because right now when he wakes up at 6 he has 3 tablespoons of Oat cereal and 1/2 jar of a fruit and than bottles threw out the day and than dinner a veggie and 1/2 jar of a fruit and than about an hour before his bath he has 3 tablespoons of rice cereal and than probably about 4 oz of formula and than bed. Sometimes its less because he falls asleep before finishing. Do you think this is okay or should he be eating another veggie at lunchtime? I forgot to ask my doctor that today, we had so many other questions i forgot haha.
Anyways im soo sorry for making this so long and just blabbing so im gunna head to bed, talk to you tomorrow!

amandas - Tuesday, 16 September
I don't know. Usually I am desperate to get her to sleep, b/c nothing else has worked. So far she doesn't seem to have to nurse b-4 bed.

amandas - Monday, 15 September
I know, if I could only get her to crawl! lol She's almost there.

lynna - Monday, 15 September
you know, I felt the same way for a long time. But if you think about it from the prosective of a weeks time he is on a schedule and I think about an hour difference here and there isn't that far off schedule. I wonder too that if we stop trying so hard that eventually they will fall into their own schedule. My theory is that if he seems healthy and is eating something(because somedays its not as much as I would like, and some days its plenty) and pooping and happy then we are doing our jobs... I get so caught up in what he is supposed to be doing and worrying about all the schedules for food and sleeping that I forget to realize that he is happy. I don't think you are "not following through" I think you are. Don't be so hard on yourself. Ryland is obviously healthy happy and super adorable! Your a great mommy! Sorry to ramble....

Amiemae23 - Monday, 15 September
It's the jeep limited? I think..It's got "jeep" all over it..I have to say I like mine too. His stroller that goes to his carseat works good too for the days we go to the paved trail. It's really nice..It's paved it's all moms and strollers and a couple older people walking..the trail is marked so you know the distance. The trail is 1.19 long. Theres 50 different kinds of trees and they are all labeled. The best part is..when spring hits half of them are in bloom so you have all these beautiful colors and nice people and ducks..Very nice. I think next year when he can appreciate it he will really like it.
I've never seen the Bob? Or maybe I have and didn't realize it. We didn't really shop around for the jogger. My fiances grandparents bought us the jogger and our everyday one with the carseat. It was probably the only thing I hadn't thought of..(which is weird)but it's probably the most appreciated gift we got at the babyshower they held for us.
I'm just now buying him clothes..and wouldn't be if it weren't for him being too big for the winter clothes he'd gotten. I hope some of them still fit come winter..Otherwise we're buying more.
Well I could ramble forever..

MTNWOMAN - Monday, 15 September
Yeah, Ri is pretty easy going. So good that he almost makes us want another one, but like you said, if we have another one they will probably be the opposite!

jen - Monday, 15 September
What??!!! No way! Who did that??
