Boy has this been a whirlwind of a year! My husband and I got married in September 2006. Began building our house in November 2006 and then found out that I was pregnant the beginning of June 2007. My first reaction to seeing the double blue line was awe and disbelief. In fact, it took me 7 positive pregnancy tests to finally convince myself and believe that I was indeed pregnant! Even walking into my first ultrasound appointment at 9 weeks, I was sure that the technician was going to tell my husband and me that I was not pregnant, but thank goodness we walked out the door with a printed out photo of our little one.

For me the weeks have been going by slow. Perhaps it is because I wake up every morning anticipating looking more and more pregnant. I view pictures of other women's pregnant bellies and dream of the day that I too will look pregnant, as opposed to just looking as if I spent a little too much time at the dessert table!

My husband and I have decided not to find out the sex of our baby. The main reason for my wanting to wait is that I always ruin surprises by either opening up the corner of a wrapped present or just plain guessing. I figured that this was the one and only thing in life that could remain a true surprise; that is as long as one of the ultrasound technicians doesn't blurt it out by accident!

Shortly after I found out that I was pregnant, I had a dream that I was having a little boy. The following week I had to stop by a rental shop and dead smack in front of my parking space was for rent, a 4 foot tall wooden stork exclaiming "It's a Boy!". So I have taken those signs and have convinced myself that I am having a boy. That and everyone I know has guessed a boy. No one on earth thinks it will be a girl. What a shock that will be if the Dr calls out "It's a Girl!"

As for how my pregnancy is going....pretty good overall. I was one of the lucky few who didn't have to deal with morning sickness. I was a bit tired in the very beginning and my appetite increased over night. In my mind I was hoping that the more I ate, the sooner I would be able show-off my pregnant belly, but that hasn't been the case! The only main problem I have had thus far was a slightly elevated AFP reading for Spina Bifida. I have had two level 2 ultra sounds since getting the test results back and the Dr's have examined everything and said that the spine and brain look great! But let me tell you, I was worried sick over that fool test.

I am now 21 weeks pregnant and still waiting to show-perhaps next week??

Okay, so it is now next week (22 weeks) and although my husband says I look pregnant and I think I look pregnant when naked, I am still not sure that strangers can really tell that there is indeed a baby growing inside of me...and not just a growing waistline!

Boy is the baby kicking now! I first felt the baby kick at around 18 weeks, but it wasn't really anything I could rely on feeling since the kicks went almost unnoticed. But now in my 22nd week there is no mistaking the little "guy" moving around inside.

Week 23! There is no mistaking my being pregnant now! From my head down to my toes, I look pregnant- I was really hoping I would be all belly, but at 5'2'' there really isn't much room for the weight to spread out. But it's worth it- I have a beautiful and wonderful miracle growing inside and before I know it my pregnancy stage will be over and I will be back in my skinny jeans- Yippie!

I have another level 2 ultrasound tomorrow. The doctors are keeping a close eye on my blood circulation (since they had noticed that it had not matured when I went for my AFP reading) to the baby and making sure the baby is getting enough oxygen and nutrition. As much of a drag as it is to go to the Dr every 2 weeks, I am very thankful that they take such care and interest, providing the baby and me with the best care possible. Not only that, but I have great ultrasound pictures to document my baby's development.

Overall my Dr appointment went well. I had a level 2 ultra sound to follow-up on my blood circulation to the baby. The Dr told me that the blood flow in the umbilical artery, the one that feeds the baby was great and that the baby is growing as should be (weighs 1 lb 5 ounces). However, there was a notch in the ovarian artery indicating that later on in my pregnancy I may develop preeclampsia. There is not much that can be done just yet, just wait and keep an eye on things. I was just happy to find out that the artery feeding my baby is doing it's job! My Bestfriend Kimberly and Me!

This past week has been a tough one. I had the flu shot 2 weeks ago and have been suffering symptoms from that for a whole week now. I finally decided to go to the Dr.today due to an unbearable earache. The Dr. prescribed me some amoxicillin and I can't wait for it to take the pain away from my earache and hopefully clear up the cough that has been haunting me for the past week as well. Aside from being sick the past week, I have made it to WEEK 24! I have noticed strangers being extremely polite and going out of their way to assisst me- I guess they are able to notice my pregnant belly!

25 weeks pregnant and showing!

After 2 full weeks of being sick with the flu, a terrible cough and fluid in the ear, I am finally feeling much better. I was hoping to lose a few pounds over the course of being sick, since most people do- But me, of course not! When I am sick I tend to eat more- What's with that?

So I am beginning to feel a bit overwhelemed with all the jobs that still need to be done on the house. Like I said, my husband and I built a house and we have yet to complete the upstairs. We had a carpenter come over the other day to help design the layout of the upstairs. I am really excited and pleased with what we decided to do. So now that we have the design, we need the framing, sheetrock, carpeting, plumbing, heating, lighting, painting and of course decorating! My the list never ends! On top of that, there is still quite a bit that needs to be done on the downstairs. I suppose I need to stop looking at the HUGE To Do List and focus on one thing at a time. Thank goodness we have families that like to help, otherwise I don't think there would be any light at the end of the tunnel.

Little Scooter (that's what my mom has named the baby) has been kicking all the time. I love feeling Scooter move because it reassures me that he/she is doing just fine. I am really starting to feel pregnant now. Although I don't feel as if my belly is as cute as most of the other women's. I feel as if I am carrying extra low. In fact, last week Scooter was kicking all the way down by my pelvic bone. I thought for sure he/she was on the way out! LOL! I know that sounds ridiculous, but then again, I am a first time mom to be. 15 more weeks to go!

I am now 26 weeks pregnant and can feel baby Scooter kicking all the time. Sometimes Scooter kicks so hard that I actually let out a little yelp! Most of the time I feel kicks in the lower region of my stomach, down near my pelvic area. I am going to ask my Dr. if that could possibly mean that the baby is in a breech position. When I look in the mirror at my belly it appears that I am carrying low, perhaps that could be related to the baby's postion. I guess I will have to ask my Dr. at tomorrow's visit.

My Dr's appointment went well. I addressed my concern about the baby kicking extra low and my Dr told me that it was normal. But wouln't you know that as soon as I left the office, I began to feel kicks up by my bellybutton and around my ribs!

I had to have the sugar glucose test and I have to admit that the sugar water wasn't all that bad. Mine was Fruit Punch flavored, one of my favorites, so I had no problem sucking it down.

My husband has been able to feel the baby kick for the past few days. It is so neat that he can finally be a part of the pregnancy in a more intimate way. However, one thing he teases me about that he can do that I can't is that he can kiss the baby. I find it so sweet and endearing when you talks and kisses my belly. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful husband who takes so much interest in the baby and me. In fact, he makes it a point to be at all of the Dr. appointments. I know he is only tagging along because he knows I hate the fact that he gets to watch me step on the scale and see just how much weight I am gaining! LOL! In all honesty, he could really care less about my weight gain. He just wants his wife and baby to be healthy. He tells me all the time that I am beautiful and he loves every inch of my body. The only problem is that I have a hard time believing that, but I guess most women do. I suppose we need to learn to embrace ourselves and stop comparing ourselves to the stick skinny models on the cover of magazines. Most of the time they have been airbrushed and their bodyparts rearranged by computer!! LOL! I am beginning to ramble so I am going to put a stop to all my nonsense....until next time~!

I guess I got a bit tired of journaling........

RYLAND CHASE

February 14, 2008

3:28 pm

5 lbs 14 oz

20.5 inches

I ended up being induced a week early due to our baby measuring a bit on the small side. My Dr said it was protocol to induce if an ultrasound revealed that a baby fell below the 10Th percentile. I was admitted Tuesday, Feb. 11Th and the induction process began Wednesday morning. The whole process was very slow and grueling. It took my body forever to kick in and go into labor. Up until Thursday afternoon, my cervix remained locked and stayed at a steady 1 cm dilated even though I was having extremely strong contractions every minute. Around 2 pm Thursday it decided to loosen and measured a bit over 2. At that point I had a stadol to help with all of the pain. An hour later (3pm) my nurse decided to check me to see if I had made any progress and to our surprise, I was 9 cm dilated and the baby was crowning (which meant I missed the window of opportunity for an epidural). My nurse ran out into the hall and called the resident nurse in (since my Dr was at his office at a different location) the neonatologist and the OR doctors. I managed to hold-off delivering until my Dr arrived (ten minutes later). During all of this, the baby`s heart-rate dropped to 60 beats per minutes, so it was crucial to get the baby out quickly-The Dr`s were on the verge of performing an emergency C-section right there in my room! My Dr arrived just in time and with a few hard-core pushes and the help of a vacuum, our baby was born. Ryland was checked over and taken out of the room, so I missed out on the whole initial bonding process, something I was really looking forward to. After 45 minutes of being stitched back up(I had extreme tearing), Ryland was brought back into my room and I was able to begin bonding. We have been home for a week and a half now, and our little man couldn`t be doing any better. He is the love of my life and I would do it all over again :o)

Ya your trip is gunna be awesome and so relaxing to just get away and spend some quality time with your hubby but im sure you guys will miss Ryland lots and spend most of your time talking about him. Haha isnt it funny how that happens now that we have these bundle of joys we spend so much of our time talking about them when we actually have time to sit down and talk. Oh well have a child is the best thing in the world, i never thought i could love someone this much! Its such a different kind of love.
Aww thats too bad that ryland isnt sleeping well, Austin has been doing the same thing for like a month now. except for the last 2 nights its amazing to sleep threw the whole night haha. Hopefully ryland sleeps threw the night for you tonight.
How did you guys decide on the name Ryland? I love it by the way!..Did you guys have a few girl names and boy names picked out?...I found girl names so much easier, me and my boyfriend couldnt really agree on any other boy names except for Austin and it was my favorite so now it totally suits him. Poor little guy he has 2 middle names and a long last name, its gunna take some work to teach him how to write his name haha
Ya going to the dentist sucks! I didnt go my whole pregnancy and than before that i didnt go for like 2 years yikes im soo bad. I just hate it!..It took my mouth so long to unfreeze too. My body must be bad with anesthetics because when i had my c section it normally takes people about 2 hours to not be as frozen but they kept me in the recovery room for almost 4 hours and i was still frozen. It was the longest and worst 4 hours of my life. I only got to see Austin for a couple mins and than i was put in recovery while my boyfriend and my family got to hang out with Austin. It was very sad. It makes me want to cry just thinking about it!! I hope i can have a normal birth next time but my doctor said we will have to see
Well im off to bed, talk to you in the morning im sure. Night!

austinsmummy - Monday, 29 September
Hey! Wow you did good shopping! Isnt it funny how its soo easy to buy for our guys? I do that all the time i come home with shirts or hoodies or something for my boyfriend and nothing for me haha...I sometimes wish i was a guy because they can just wear jeans and a t shirt and still look nice!..And they are comfy. And than there is us ( well me anyways, your tiny! ) where we have to find shirts to cover up our "problem areas" it just isnt fair sometimes hey haha
When i went shopping yesterday i bought 2 pairs of jeans a jacket and 2 shirts. I still need a ton more tops cause i got nothing!
Ohh i bet you are soo excited to go away on Wednesday, you guys are gunna have a blast. Happy Anniversary by the way, im sorry i didnt say anything on your real anniversary.
Hows Ryland been latly?..Is he crawling? Austin has been trying to well he pushes off with his feet and kinda leaps forward haha
Well i just got home from the dentist i had to get some fillings booo i hate when my face is all frozen. So im gunna go have a quick lay down while Austin and Daddy play for a bit. Talk to you later!

jadensmomma - Sunday, 28 September
hi there, how are you and ryland? i've seen some cute pics of him around. our boys sure are growing up to be handsome little men aren't they? jaden still has no teeth :( and i feel like i can't feed him everything i could be feeding him if he had some in by now. i guess he's just going to be a late bloomer. still not wanting to crawl either and still hates being on his tummy. maybe he'll come around one day. i think jadens had some allergies becuase he's had a awful runny nose for over a week now but we finally got some good meds so i'm hoping it will help clear them up.
well hope all is well with you and your family.

austinsmummy - Sunday, 28 September
WOW your ring is amazing!! I cant believe he just bought that for you, just because! You must have been a good girl! haha...Austin still wont drink out of a sippy cup i have tried so many times and he rather he chew on it or just throw it around...Did Ryland just drink out of it right away?
Ya i do mix fruit in with his cereal sometimes and he really enjoys it, i wish we had different kinds of cereal like that, im gunna keep my eyes open and try to find some different ones. I alway buy all my baby food at Wal Mart its the Nestle brand i dont know if you guys have that done there. But that is the only brand that they sell. But im gunna go somewhere eles and see if i can find some.
Ohh good luck on the clothes shopping let me know what you end up buying!..I think im gunna go shopping today too and try to find a jacket and some shirts. I was at the mall the other day and they have tons of jackets out so i better buy one now before there isnt any varity!
For the last few days that i have been mixing formula with his cereal, after you gave me the great idea! haha..So hopefully that will help.
When are you and your hubby going on your trip??
Well im gunna go have a nice longggg shower, i always enjoy sunday and mondays for when Walter is home i can have a not rushed shower.
Message me later and let me know how the shopping went!

sarahlouise87 - Sunday, 28 September
lol how cute ty for the comment xx

austinsmummy - Sunday, 28 September
Ohh trust me i gained weight EVERYWHERE...i still havent gottan rid of it

austinsmummy - Sunday, 28 September
Hey Danielle!..Sorry i didnt write you back all day, Austin and me had a pretty rough day today. He was just soo miserable, im hoping his teeth are finally gunna come soon. Its been over 3 months now that hes been teething. The bumps look alittle bigger today but still havent broke threw yet. Im really hoping all his teeth arent gunna take this long. Does Ryland only have his 2 bottle teeth? Any signs of anymore coming?
Wow you are one lucky girl for your hubby to buy you a diamond ring, espically when you needed a "pick me up" What a great guy!..Dont feel guilty at all, you deserve it!..Being a mommy is a tough job espically when our little ones are fussy. You just enjoy that beautiful ring!! what does it look like??
Ya i know what you mean about wanting a new wardrode, something alittle more mommy-ish but still stylish! Too bad we didnt live near each other so we could go shopping together!
So today i switched up our routine just alittle bit..When he first woke up i gave him his cereal like usual and just a few bites of fruit and than before his morning nap i gave him a bottle ( which he only drank like 3 ounces..its frustrating cause now hes not a huge formula drinker!!) but than after his nap i gave him a jar of fruit and one of those mum mum crackers, than a bottle before his afternoon nap which he fought today didnt want to nap at all!...And than a veggie for dinner at 4:30 and cereal at 6:30 and than a bottle before bed. It went much better so hopefully he sleeps thru the night. I think its gunna be good to give him his fruit durning the day for lunch instead of half at breakfast and half at dinner. We will give this a try and see how it works!...Do you think its really bad if babies dont drink 24-30 oz of formula a day? Austin will have 20 oz if that some days, it just depends how fussy he is. I think drinking out of the bottle hurts his gums someday cause i know hes hungry but he will push the bottle away and just scream.
What brand of cereal do you use? I have never seen the Barley and Brown Rice before. In the morning i give him Wheat with fruit and than night he has Rice with Banana right now...those are the only kinds that stage 2 has. I know Canada doesnt have as many opitions as the States, its really not fair at all haha..Have you ever been to Canada???

kathleen - Saturday, 27 September
i just read your story about the signs u got while pregnant that u were having a boy then had a boy thats so weird... and ryland was just 1oz smaller then my daughter keanna when she was born. tiny wern't they.

kathleen - Saturday, 27 September
hey, your son is adorable. about the pic of my son with the bump on his head... we didn't get it looked at by the doc coz i no its better 2 come out like that even though it looks sore if he started to be sick with it then i would of gone stright 2 A&E. i was a bit peed off though coz he did it at nursery and they never bothard 2 phone me 2 let me no i found out 1a hour n1/2 after he did it when i went 2 pick him up. its been 2 days now and all is left is a small bruise.

mizzsnazzy - Friday, 26 September
Omg now i really feel like a dumbass for forgetting that too. :( Happy late birthday. Did you have a good time? WHat did u do on ur anniversary? I have been forgetting everything latley, I wonder why, maybe it is the mommy thing, but I never did before. So how much is Ryland eating now?

mizzsnazzy - Friday, 26 September

I feel like a total jack ass and forgot ur anniversary was the 23rd, happy late anniversary! Sorry hun that I forgot, when is ur birthday, if i remember right it is also coming up?

mizzsnazzy - Friday, 26 September
Nathan poops usually once a day, but recently, he has been pooping sometimes like 3 or even 4 times. I don't think it's anything bad.

mommye2b - Friday, 26 September
Yeah, I take Progesterone cream. I just put it on my tummy before bed. It really seems to help! If I don't take it I am depressed.

austinsmummy - Friday, 26 September
Hey! How has your day been??..I havent been on much today i pretty much spent the day at the mall doing some shopping since i hardly have any clothes! Its getting soo cold out where i am and since i was huge and preggo last year i dont have any clothes for the fall/winter.
Anyways about Austins feeding I give him a jar of veggie at 5 and thats it and than cereal and fruit at 7 and than i try to give a bottle at 8/8:30. I was doing this because he would eat it before and having cereal that close to his bedtime would keep him nice and full and he would sleep thru the night. But now its not working for him. So i think im gunna take your advice and give him his cereal and veggie at the same time. But he wont eat a whole jar of veggie and 3-4 tablespoons of his cereal so now im all confused hhaha...Its hard trying a bunch of different routines to see which one works best hey.
Do you know at 6-7 months how much solids they should be getting?? because if they just need one jar of veggies in a day maybe i will start giving him half a jar of veggie for lunch along with half a jar of fruit and than at night i can give him the other half of veggie with his cereal. Sorry if im being totally confusing im just trying to figure out my new schedule!
I havent been giving him any solids at lunch time because than i was worried he wasnt getting enough formula--he will only eat like 4 or 5 ounces at once.
How have you been feeling today? Did you have a good family day? Thats nice that your hubby can just work half the day so he can come help you out and spend a family day. I wish my boyfriend could do that!
Anyways im soo tired so im gunna head to bed i think so i will talk to you tomorrow!

mommy of natty-b - Friday, 26 September
ryland has the cutest dimples...gonna be a heart breaker!

mommye2b - Friday, 26 September
Hey, I have to feed dinner to little b but I'll reply in a few!

austinsmummy - Thursday, 25 September
Hey how are you feeling today??...Hope your doing better!..I get like that some days too, i think its all these hormones we have haha..If theres anything you wanna talk about or vent feel free i would love to listen and try to help ya out!...Ive been feeling pretty crappy latley too, my boyfriend just found out that he might have to transfer to a different city for his job. Which means im gunna have to move away from my family and i really dont want too. Espically with Austin now i want them to be close to watch him grow. We've been fighting about it lots latly i know its not his fault and hes a manager at Kal Tire ( i dont know if they have kal tires in the states ) But i guess theres a bunch of stores that need managers. I hope sometime comes up thats close to where we are so we dont have to go far
Anyways thanks for the advice on some foods, i think im gunna try some avocado with Austin and see what he thinks. What other kind of veggies do you give him? ( like that arent in the baby food jars )
Hey i was just wondering if you tell me what your routine is like for the day?...Im having problems with my night routine because for the last 2 weeks Austins has been waking up around 2 am and is hungry but its because hes been falling asleep without a bottle before bed. Right now i have been giving him dinner at 5 and than at 7 cereal and a fruit and than bath time and i try to get a bottle in before he goes to sleep around 8:30 but its just not working. I dunno if i should push everything back an hour like give him dinner at 4..do you think thats too eary?...and than try giving him his cereal at 6? I dunno i just dont want him to get into a routine of waking up at night now. Ive been getting him up because i feel bad thinking that hes in pain because of his teeth but sometime he will just wake up around 2 and talk for like 20 mins so i hope he will fall back to sleep but than he starts crying so than i will go get him.
If Ryland wakes up in the night do you just let him fall back to sleep on his own? I dunno he use to sleep all threw the night even if he didnt have a bottle before bed but now hes not so i have to figure something eles out because i am soo tired latley. I just want to sleep thru the night again!
As for Austins naps they are getting soo much better...he usually has one around 9 for an hour, sometimes 2 if im lucky! and than again around 1 and that one is always shorter probably about 45 mins to an hour. And than hes usually tired around 5. Hes not a huge napper most days but at least hes napping alittle bit because i was having such a hard time because he would just nap hear and there for 20 mins or so and than just be soo cranky. And it helps putting him in his crib for naps. I would just let him fall asleep on me and i would hold him while i watched tv or whatever and i found he never was in a deep sleep.
As nice as it is to just cuddle him when hes sleeping i had to give it up
Well i better go get Austin ready for his nap but i will talk to you later!

Tara83 - Thursday, 25 September
alright ;o)
do you want ideas for family pictures ones of just Ryland? Also do you want some silly type pictures or are you looking for more classic pictures.
also it is imporant to keep in mind if you want to edit the pictures after and if you will keep them in colour or would prefer black and white. This way you can plan out backgrounds and clothing. For black and white pictures it works better to have your baby in solid colours or just a diaper. The background should not be overly busy.
The best time to take pictures of a baby at this age is in the morning or afternoon nap. It is best to catch them when they have the most energy and have just been fed.
let me know what kind of photos you would like to take and I will send you some step by step hints. You have a gorgeous property so I am sure your pictures will come out stunning.

Tara83 - Thursday, 25 September
thanks I will have to go check it out. Someone bought her these amazing authentic baby cow bow boots and I have been going nuts looking for a hat so I can take some cute pictures. I am sorry you are feeling down today there is nothing worse then a downer day. If you ever need to vent I am here ;o)
