Hey all Just to let you know that my baby arrived 14th Feb 2008 at 5.25pm - labour story will be on here pretty soon xxx
MY LABOUR
I woke up on Tuesday morning 12/2/08 (the day before I was due) with some dull period like cramping in my stomach but not painful just uncomfortable so I proceeded with my daily duties. I spoke to my sister later the same afternoon who seemed to think that I was in the early stages but I was doubtful and I was thinking that it was Braxton Hicks. On the Wednesday morning I woke up and was still in pain but had an appointment in the afternoon with the midwife so decided to grin and bear it. I went to the appointment and spoke to the midwife about the pains I was having and she seemed to think that it was braxton hicks and proceeded to make me an appointment for friday 22nd february (I would have been 9 days overdue). Leaving the surgery I have to admit I was feeling very low and upset as I was in some pain now and if it was only braxton hicks how was I supposed to cope with the real thing. Anyway I rang my mam to let her know what had happened at the appointment and she suggested that I get a second opinion so I waited for my partner to come home from work and went to the hospital with him. My mum met us up there but we didnt take my hospital bag as I was convinced that it wasent labour. Anyway I got to the hospital around 6.30pm and was checked over and I was 3cm dialated so I was in labour. I had a lavender bath and was observed after 4 hours only to find that I was still only 3cm dialated, so it was up to me to come home or wait in the hospital. I decided to come home and get some sleep as it was early hours of the morning at this point. Me, Rob and my mam came home and went to sleep only I couldnt as the pain was still quite bad, so I woke rob up at 5am 14th feb and we went back to the hospital. I arrived to central delivery suite and was checked and was 5cm dialated so midwife asked me what was my labour plan which totally went out of the window as I requested the epidural. The epidural was set up and I was pain free by 6.30am. By 7.30am the shift changed over from night staff to day and I was strapped to the bed as the epidural had started to work. I laboured all day and was continued to be checked for contractions and dialation, by 3.45pm I was 10cm dialated and it was decided that I would start pushing. I started to push and the contractions disappeared so I had to wait until they returned. I began pushing and did so for an hour with no joy. I was checked again and the midwife seemed to think that he had moved back up so she got a second opinion, during this time the baby's heartbeat dropped so the midwife pushed the panic button and a number of doctors come running in. After several observations it was decided that I needed to have a caesarian section which I was not happy about and was in tears, along with my mam and rob. I was wheeled into the theatre where the section took place and rob joined me all scrubbed up which I found really amusing. After around 20 minutes in the theatre my son was born at 17.25 and he was 7lbs 11oz. I was so happy but worried about the effect of the drugs and the fact that I couldnt hold him properly. The whole experience was awful but as I was wheeled back to the ward with my baby the whole thing seemed so worth it. So there it is 28 hours of long hard labour then an emergency section and my son was born (little luke) and I never been so proud of anything in my whole life he is a total blessing and I love him more than anything. I stayed in hospital for three days and was finally allowed home where me and rob and our new son could become a family.
