I moved to Canada in May 2006 to be with my Fiance Brad however I'm originally from Scotland.
I found out on 30th Dec 2006 that I was a lil over 7 weeks pregnant with my first child and to be honest it hasn't been an easy ride due to the nausea I had at the beginning. I went to see my midwife yesterday (6th Feb 2007) and I heard my baby's heartbeat for the first time (I am 12wks and 5 days currently) which was one of the most amazing things ever. I have my first ultrasound on Friday which I am really excited about.
It now feels real that I am pregnant due to hearing the heartbeat and now I look forward for the weeks to come when I start to feel the wee one move and kick

Thursday 8th February
I'm actually having a pretty good day today, I don't feel any nausea (so far) and I actually feel like I have energy however I'm not going to hold my breath as at the moment I seem to have a day feeling good then a day feeling horrible again.
I have my first Ultrasound tomorrow which I am really looking forward too! My fiance has time off work to come with me so he is actually going to get to see the baby as unfortunately he missed out on hearing the heartbeat as he couldn't get the time off work for the midwife appointment.
The only thing I'm starting to worry about is the having to drink 5 glasses of water before hand to have a full bladder because last night was the worst night for me to date for trips to the toilet lol. I think I was going every 2 - 3 hours whereas before it was maybe once during the night and once really early in the morning so I just hope I'm able to last until the appointment before I really need to visit the toilet.
I'll update you tomorrow as to how it goes

Names we have picked so far

Friday 9th February
I had my ultrasound today and it was the most amazing thing ever to actually get to see the wee baby that is living inside me. It was great to hear the heartbeat a cpl of days ago but now it is fantastic to see the little one growing in me as we speak.
My appointment was at 11am and I was taken straight away so I went in, changed into my robe and lay on the bed. The gel was put on and away they went. The radiologist did get a little frustrated though as the baby was lying in an akward position for her to be able to take the measurements, especially the measurement for the neck for the downs syndrome test but after 45mins of getting me to cough and move about a lil bit she finally got it.
It was then time for dad to come in and see his little bundle of joy for the first time. She went out and shouted Brad in and turned the screen so we could both see it. Our wee one was certainly energetic today as its feet were constantly kicking and its arms were moving in all directions. I just didn't want her to stop I could have lay there all day just watching it move.
Brad is a very proud daddy to be, he took the scan pictures into his work with him as he had to go back after the appointment but from the moment we walked out the building he just constantly smiled like the cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland.... it was wonderful to see.
Anyways heres a copy of our U/S, its not the clearest of pictures but you still can make it out, I was 13 weeks exactly here ....

Saturday 10th February
OK this was a real crazy day for me lol!!! Brad and I had booked up our wedding for March 24th 2007 however after finding out I was pregnant in December I was advised to maybe look for a dress once I had started to show a bit as that would give a better indication on sizes. I went shopping today with Brads stepmum and we were on a mission to get a dress and weren't going to stop until we had got one.
The first shop we went to when I told one of the assistants my situation she was in a panic lol but needless to say she was very helpful! We picked out a few dresses and tried them on but never really liked them once I was wearing them. One of the other assistants in the shop then suggested another dress and they went and got that for me as thet felt a corset back would be best for me as the laces at the back can be adjusted to give me more room as the baby grows. I feel in love with the dress is was like a fairytale (unfortunately I can't give too much away incase Brad ever decides to come on and look at this site lol) I decided to go to another couple of wedding shops before I made my decision incase I seen anything else.
Next shop I went to the staff were going head over feet trying to sell me a dress (it was actually quite funny to watch them) they had me trying on about 7 dresses and there was only one that I kinda of liked and that wasn't until I put a shawl round me to finish it off. The problem I had was I had the dress from the other shop constantly in my head!
Anyways, to cut a long story short I went back to the first wedding shop and got that dress and they are going to do so much for me so the dress definately fits on the day as at the moment I am 13wks pregnant but on the day I will 19wks so will prob expand a lot more lol. I go for my fitting in 2 weeks then again before the wedding and I am so excited!
Heres hoping I don't grow to much bigger or I'm in trouble lol

Thursday 8th March
OK its been a while since I updated here so here goes...
I'll be 17 weeks tomorrow and today I had my second midwife appointment. Everything went great!! I got my results back from the downs sydrome test and they were fine... no problems and nothing to worry about which is a big relief cause I have to say it has been on my mind recently.
My midwife is happy the way the baby is growing everything seems to be in order there and the heartbeat today measured at 150. I'm so happy about todays appointment and how everything went as like a lot of other mums to be on here, I was at the stage where i didn't really feel pregnant all the time so todays appointment was very much a "put your mind at ease" day.
I have also lost 2 pounds in weight which I was told not to worry about as everything with the baby is fine and plus its gettin plenty of nutrition of my body fat.
My parents arrive here next Wednesday (14th March) from Scotland as I get married 2 weeks on Saturday. They are going to be here for 2 weeks which I can't wait for as its been nearly a year since I last seen them in person as I moved over to Canada. I was telling my midwife about this so to make my day even better she said "why don't we schedule an ultrasound for when your parents are here so they can get to see their grandchild". My face lit up when she told me this as I have been feeling pretty down at times thinking our baby will not really know my family to the same extent as my Fiances family. This is my parents first grandchild compared to his dad's 7th so its going to be very special for my parents and for me as I know they will be with me for this one. The ultrasound is scheduled for March 22nd.
I know I have at the top of my page the wee graphic which says expecting a surprise but as the days go by I am now tempted to find out what I am having as I want to be able to call my bump by its name and be able to start buying clothes specific to the sex of the baby as we haven't really seen a great deal of neutral things in the stores we have went to recently. I just don't know what to do about it. We have people saying well its your first child so keeping it a surprise would be nice, I have asked my Fiance many a time as to what he wants to do about it however he always replies.... its up to you ... this doesn't really help me out lol... what do you guys think???
Anyways I better go as I have a wedding dress fitting to go to tonight so I better go get ready for that!

Friday 19th April
Wow its been a while since I updated here so here goes....
I had an U/S on March 22nd and decided NOT to find out the sex of the baby (believe me it was hard lol) and everything was great with the baby. My lil piggy (seeing as it will be born in the chinese year of the pig) measured just over 8" on that day and everything was normal and where it should be. My parents were over from Scotland for 2 weeks so they came with so they could get to see their 1st Grandchild and the technician was fantastic... she went through every bit of the baby with us pointing every little detail like the sections of brain, heart, its gall bladder, fingers and toes out (except the sex). My lil piggy was moving about great, yawned and even had the hiccups whilst we were watching it on the screen and needless to say my mum cried!!!
Here are the pics of the U/S from Thursday March 22nd when I was 18 weeks and 6 days:

My lil piggy's face and skull

The left hand side profile showing face and arm (this is my fav one as it shows its wee button nose)

The right hand side profile showing face and belly
I finally married my Fiance on Saturday March 24th 2007. It was a fantasic day and a day I will always remember. It was a very small service with only my parents, Brads dad and step-mum, my bridesmaid and his best man. It wasn't a glorious nice day however it did stay dry. It was such a long day being in a heavy dress and on my feet all day and by the end of it all I was extremely tired. I have never had a camera in my face so much in the one day.. I hate getting my picture taken at the best of times nevermind for 450 pictures we got from the photographer from the day!! I will add some wedding pictures eventually!.
April has also been a busy month for myself and hubby (that feels so weird typing it lol) as it was my birthday on the 4th of April where I turned 28 and its my husbands birthday tomorrow (20th April) and he will be 30!!!
Tomorrow I hit 23 weeks and I have been feeling great in general, I was feeling a bit arghhh today as I went out for the day to the malls and by the end of it my back and the muscles in my butt hurt like hell hahaha... ohhh well theres a lot more of that to come!.

Friday 20th April
I thought I would come on and add more stuff to my page so I decided to show you guys a slideshow of our nursery themed stuff we have bought. The pictures aren't showing the best of colours as when looking at the crib set its giving the impression of a blue colour however it is actually a pale green with cosy warming earthy tones. When my parents were here for 2 weeks in March for our wedding we went looking at crib sets to see what we wanted and myself and Brad fell in love with a animal/safari theme we seen in a local store as it was very neutral looking for boy or girl as we don't know what we are having til the big day!!.
A few days later we went to babies R us to buy a diaper bag and seen the safari set they had and fell in love with it... the happy grand parents decided to buy some of the range for us. We also have a friend in Florida who sent us a cpl of the items as a gift (Thanks again Bonnie) so here is the stuff we have...
Needless to say as we now have out base theme for the nursery, every store we passed by that had soft toys of elephants, lions or giraffes, my mum went in and bought it for us. We now need to get the toy hammocks that hang up on the walls to store them in. We even have photos frames which are hand carved into giraffes etc to put in the nursery with family pics in too.
We went a cpl of weeks ago and bought the paint for the nursey walls. Its a soft green colour which has an earthy tone in it called "English Meadow". this was the best one that matched the green on the crib set. I can't wait until this room is completely finished to see how it all looks together!!!

Tuesday 24th April

Friday 3rd August
Wow such a long time since I last added to this page... I suck!!!
Well I am now 38weeks today and I am sooo ready to ahve this baby... as they say in the Taco Bell commercial ... I'M GOOD TO GO (does little hand movement).
I went for my weekly appointment at my Midwife's today and actually met my second midwife for the first time and she was really really nice. She was asking how I was so telling her about the bloody show I had along with the sharp electric shock type pains I am having on my cervix and she seemed really pleased I was having them as this shows that ur body is preparing itself hahahaha. Blood pressure was fine, I gained 1lb in weight which takes me up to 18lbs this whole pregnancy and the baby's heartbeat was measuring about 150.
Today was also my first internal to see if I had progressed any as last week my midwife was against checkin me as the baby's head was far down and she didn't really want to bring on labour at 37weeks so I was really excited about getting this done although a little nervous at the same time. I was just looking for reassurance that something is happening and baby will be with us shortly.
Anyways from the internal I am 2cm Dialated however she said I am comfortably stretching to 3cm, 50% effaced and the baby was at -2 station in my pelvis. When doing the internal she was able to touch the baby's head so she is really happy with my progress for this being my first child. The one good thing she said is that I wont go passed my due date infact it could be iniment.
Hopefully this time next week I will be holding my baby but who knows.. as the saying goes "how long is a piece of string"

Wednesday 8th August
OK here is a recent belly pic... taken today at 38 weeks and 5 days... thought it was about time I put a new one up lol

Thursday 9th August
Just thought I would come on and update from my appointment today...
Today my midwife came out for a home visit so she knew exactly where we stayed for when the time comes lol. I gotta say though that the appointment has got me totally excited,
For the past few days I have been getting more period like cramps which have been coming on more often along with lower back pain. Yesterday and today I have not been able to stop pooping hahaha due to the pressure I am having on my bowels from the baby and the sharp stabbing pains on my cervix are getting so much worse so when I told the midwife all this and she checked me over she told me I am now classed as being in early labour and that baby should be here by the weekend. OMG it was sooo good to hear that word... "LABOUR"
The only prob is this stage can go on anything from a cpl of hours to even a day(s) so its now defo the waiting game. My cramps have been getting stronger and more frequent today so hopefully soon... real soon.
Will keep you all posted!!!

Sunday 12th August
Dylan Scott Ermel has arrived!!! August 10th 2007 at 4:30pm
Hi Ladies I just thought I would pop on and share my birth story with you all!!!
The fun started on Thursday 9th August at 6:30pm when I stood up from the couch and said to my husband.. either my waters have broke or I have just pee'd myself hahaha. I went to check and sure enough it was my waters. My husband called the midwife to let her know so she told me to come straight up to the hospital so she could monitor the situation. I was feeling great... no contractions just the dull cramping feeling I had been having for several days prior to this.
I went up to the hospital and they hooked me up to the monitors to measure the babys heart, my contractions and movement of the baby. I was 4cm dialated but was sent home as the contractions were not strong enough for anything to happen and they felt I would be better off relaxing at home in familiar surroundings as it could be a while before anything could happen or if something would happen. I was told to come back to the hospital at 9am the next day.
The next morning we got up and got ready for the hospital... still no contractions. I got there and the hooked me up to the monitors again, again nothing was strong enough for progression to happen so I was told to come back to the hospital at 6pm that night as I was going to be induced if nothing had happened. Because my waters had already broke they wont let you go passed 24hrs incase of a risk of infection so I knew I was having my baby that day/night.
I got home and went for a sleep but woke up at 12:30pm with STRONG contractions... they just appeared from nowhere. It was to the extent the contractions were bring tears to my eyes. we waited an hour and called the midwife and my main midwife was out on a call so I had another one come to give me support. Within an hour of her arriving I was going on to 7cm dialated and completely effaced. We tried to hold off a bit in the house but I said I think its time to go to the hospital.. I WANT PAIN RELIEF lol.
The midwife agreed and said I think its a good time to go. We got to the hospital and my main midwife was there waiting for me. they got me into my room and changed into my gown and got on the bed.. at this point I was 8cm dialated and going through pain with every contraction. At 4:20pm I was fully Dialated so there was no time for pain relief.. 10 minutes later I gave birth to my baby son .. ALL NATURAL which is something I never imagined I would be able to do. All in all my labour with Dylan lasted only 4 hrs!!!
Baby Dylan was born at 4:30pm he was 6lb 15oz and was 19" long, he was exactly 1 week early. Within 15 mins of him being born he was latched on to me no problem and fed for about 45 mins. I was feeling great, only had a 2nd degree tear which required only 2 stitches. They had me up walking around and I had a shower. Due to him doing so well and me doing so well they let me go home 2 hrs after he was born. My midwife was extremely pleased at how strong I was throughout it all and that I went into labour myself without having to go back to be induced.
I am so proud of myself going totally natural and treasure every moment I look at my son... he is the most precious thing in my life and I love him so much.
Here are some pics of him from the hospital:
