Happy Birthday Lucas Anthony!

Birth Story
At about 10:30 pm on Sunday, October 28th, I started to feel fairly consistent contractions and started timing them. They were irregular, so I thought it was just false labor. Then I felt a pop in my lower belly area and started to wonder. When I went to use the bathroom, I realized that it wasn't urine, but that my water had broke. So, I told my fiance, " I think it's time."". I took a quick shower and we got to the hospital at about midnight. While we were checking in at the nurses station, the nausea became overwhelming. I had to run to the bathroom in a hurry which is right about when I lost my dinner. The nurse showed me to one of the triage beds. As soon as I laid down, the water came gushing out and the contractions came on stronger. At that point the nurse checked and said I was 80% effaced and about 4 cm dialated. About an hour later, I was taken to one of the labor and delivery rooms. I was hooked up to an IV while I repeatedly reminded to nurses about the epideral I was waiting for. At that point I felt like I could not get it fast enough. After I finally got the epideral, it took another few hours to dialate to 8 cm. By about 6:15 am, I was fully dialated and so tired from being up all night! The doc showed up around 7 am and we got started. I'm so glad I only had to push for about 30 minutes because it was so exhausting. It seemed to take forever for the doc to stitch me up, but when I finally got to hold baby Lucas it was love at first sight.
This is my first pregnancy and it was a surprise! We are anxiously awaiting the next ultrasound so we can finally settle our bet on the baby's gender. :-) I'm lucky enough not to have had any morning sickness. The only bump in the road that we've hit is health insurance, but we finally got that all settled. I'll be finished with my online bachelor's degree during the same week as my due date, so let's hope I'm late.
Fun Birthday Facts
5/25/07 The hubby and I are closing the deal on our new home today. I hope we can get all moved in before I get too big! ![]()
6/4/07 I had my first emotional breakdown last night. I suddenly woke up at 3am and couldn't go back to sleep because the dog was snoring (she sleeps in bed with us). When I tried to move her I woke up my hubby who grumbled something at me that made me burst into tears. After crying in the bathroom for 15 min., I REALLY couldn't go back to sleep. The uncontrolable crying made me feel like a lunatic. These crazy hormones!
6/8/07 Well, I just returned from my level II ultrasound appointment. It was scheduled because of my high AFP level, but the good news is that everything looks great. And we have a healthy 10 oz. baby boy in there. While they were trying to get a good look at his spine, he managed to flash us a shot of his little package many times, so there no doubt about it.
6/25/07 Last night my little one went wild with the kicking. His daddy got to feel the kicks for the first time. Ofcourse he made a joke and a reference to the movie 'Alien' since its one of my favorites. Now that there's no doubt in my mind about what kicks feel like, I'm picking up on that sensation much more easily. He seems to be more active at night. I hope that's no indication of his future sleeping patterns!
7/11/07 It turns out that the deal on our new house did not go through, so now we are going to start preparing the nursery at our current house. It's exciting. And I found some no-odor, highly safe paint from Sherwin Williams that we can use called Harmony. And I was able to double up on my classes next month so I'll officially be finished with my bachelor's degree program at the beginning of October. What a relief! Now, if I go into labor before my 40th week, I won't have school to worry about.
7/24/07 So it turns out we found a better deal on a home that was built just a few years ago. A brand new house, how exciting! The seller took our offer and signed the contract all in the same day. We should be closing by mid-August, then its time to start on the nursery and move in. I just took the labor prediction quiz on JustMommies.com and the results do not look promising. I hope this prediction is wrong:
"I know you were hoping we weren't going to say this, but don't expect this baby to come early. Your baby is nice and comfy tucked away in your womb and has no interest in joining the rest of the world. We predict your baby will be born after its due date. Your baby will most likely be born in the morning. Justmommies predicts that your baby will weigh approximately 8.8 pounds and that your labor will be about 13 hours long."
10/08/07 I just went to the OB today who kinda reached up in there and said he could feel where the baby's head is. But I don't think I have felt the baby drop, or atleast I haven't felt that 'coconut between my legs' kinda thing yet. And I certainly don't feel dilated yet and haven't experienced hip/joint pain. But they did tell me if I go past 39 weeks, they'll do a U/S to check his size since he's measuring big already. Well, the nursery is officially ready and it only took me 2 days to take care of all of the finishing touches. The in-laws came over a couple of times and poked fun at me because I was nesting. I definitely wore myself out though. It's amazing how many times I had to sit dow nand take a breather because my legs were aching so bad from waddling from the washer/dryer to the baby's room.
