pregnancy week by week

Hi everyone, my name is Janine. Thanks for stopping by my page.

We found out today (8th June 2008) that we are pregnant for the second time and are overjoyed but terrified at the same time.

Sadly our first baby had to go to heaven at 13 weeks. We discovered at our scan that our little bub had Anencephaly, a fatal neural tube defect which causes the head and brain not to form - a condition totally incompatible with life. We therefore had no choice but to say goodbye to our little bundle of joy and opt for a d&c on the 29th February. Our hearts were broken by this terrible experience.

We now have an Angel in heaven and we have taken many blessings from the 3 months our little baby had with us. That little person will always have a special place in our hearts.

We are so grateful for the wonderful second chance we have been given and can only hope and pray that all unfolds well this time around.

What follows is a poem a lovely friend from this site sent to me. It brought comfort to me and I hope it will do the same for others who have experienced a loss.

I did not die young.

I lived the span of my life in your body,

And within your love.

There are many who have lived long lives

And have not been as loved as me.

If you would honour me, then speak my name,

And number me among your family.

If you would honour me, then try to live in love,

For in that love, I live.

Never ever doubt that we will meet again.

Until that happy day, I will grow with God

And wait for you

If you are interested, all my updates are in my blog section on the right.

Best of Luck to everyone trying for a baby and Congratulations to all those with a little bundle of joy on the way!

I know what it's like having family abroad. J's family out in the US, skattered around, and my family is in France... Where are you both from?I agree with you about close friends- It's really nice to have their support and love, not to mention their excitement! I had a music rehearsal today and am now soooooo tired. It's only 6ish but I feel I could just go to sleep now. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz. I've made our GP appointment- we're seeing her thursday morning! Em x

Hi Janine, thanks for checking in on me! I am doing okay. Been pretty busy with BDing this month so I am hopeful. My cycle seems normal again and I am thankful for that. Probably ovulating today, day 17. About the hematologist - all I got out of it is that they need further testing. The lupus testing came back slightly positive but other factors can influence that so now they are doing more specific testing using my DNA. The doctor doesn't think I have it though. I asked the doctor about the clots I have experienced and he just said it wasn't his field. I was a bit surprised being that they were blood clots and he is a blood specialist. I would have to see my regular doctor and then probably an obgyn to get any answers, but I will leave it for now as things seem to be normal this month.

I read that your pants are starting to get a bit tight! I envy you Mine are getting tight for other reasons! Too much chocolate. I think it is called comfort eating. Well, I am getting better though...

Thanks again and all the best!!!
Love,
Karin

Hey Janine. Forgot to tell you of a little tip in my last message to you you.... A friend of mine who has a 4month old told me this: if your trousers/jeans are a bit tight, but maybe not enough to need fully fledged maternity trousers, then you can feed a small hair band through the button whole, pull it through itself to secure it and then just loop it over the button! I've started doing that and it really helps! Em x

Hello, you sound as though you are progressing nicely!! I like to read other people's updates. I have no morning sickness (or any other time of the day) and I don't feel at all pregnant. It's a bummer because now I really do think things are going wrong. Anyway, not long to wait to find out, I've got a scan on Wednesday 9th July which I am so worried about. The closer it gets, the worse it gets! Don't you think it's weird how the NHS don't want to see you until you are past the really important first 12 weeks? I can't believe they don't give any advice about what you should eat or not, exercise, looking after baby. Thank god for the internet. And the fact I'm 37 means at least I get an early scan because of the risk of Downs. Anyway moaning over....... hope you get your scan date very soon. I did buy a private scan at eight weeks last time around, but I have resisted this time. Look after yourself, keep growing that baby x

That's so funny! I was looking at maternity trousers/jeans yesterday too!! Didn't get any though, although I've bought a few t-shirt type tops that are empire line which I find more comfortable now. I've been pretty bloated and very uncomfortable in my trousers, which is why I was pondering buying a maternity pair... The bloating seems to have improved a bit over the past 2 days, which feels soooooo much better. Ouf! That's good news about your nausea! One of my dearest friends had ms for the whole of her pregnancy poor thing! And really great news about getting an early scan on the NHS. I guess you can out that £100 towards your nursery fund! I had a short bit of nausea yesterday afternoon, but nothing to write home about. Otherwise, it's slowly becoming more and more real. We've decided to tell my parents in person when they come over for a visit at the end of the month. How about you, have you shared your news with any loved ones? We've already told our closest handful of friends who new we were TTC.... Em x

Hey there. Well I'm 5 weeks now, which is kinda cool! See you're 8 weeks. 4 more and your high and dry! Hope you're feeling well. I ordered some preggy books online yesterday: the Pregnancy Bible (which people seem to rave about), The Rough Guide to Pregnancy and Birth (which people like for it's sense of humour) and The Bloke's Guide to Pregnancy (which sounds like a hoot, and good for J to read). What books do you have? Em x

Hey how are you doing? Have the symptoms arrived with avengence?

GreenWood - Thursday, 3 July
£100? That's not toop bad is it really.... Sorry you're feeling rotten... Have you tried ginger beer? We went to the Jack Johnson concert in Hyde Park yesterday. It was BRILLIANT. We went with 3 of our closest friends. They all know we've been TTC so we announced our pregnancy to them yesterday. They were SOOOOOOO excited for us. It was just wonderful.... Hope you feel better today. em x

Thanks for the comments...it is crazy how fast it is starting to go, but I think part of that is because I am feeling so much better now, and can feel him move all throughout the day, so the worry is a little less, too.
The first 14 weeks took a while for me, it seems, but after that, I am not sure where the last month and a half went!

GreenWood - Tuesday, 1 July
Ooooh how exciting! Where are you having it done? I assume it costs an arm and a leg, doesn't it?

GreenWood - Tuesday, 1 July
Urgh. Poor you... I guess I have all that to look forward too. Right now, I just feel SUPER bloated, get a bit of crampy twinges through the day and pain in my lower back. What joy. How many weeks do you have till your u/s?! Em x

grexach - Tuesday, 1 July
I will be 10 weeks and 1 day at my next scan. So excited.

Hey! Thanks so much for you message.... It's so exciting!! DH is not completely convinced though as the line is still faint, so I went out and splurged on a couple of those digital tests, and we've decided to test again on Wednesday and then again on Sunday. What is it with men and gadgets?!? Lol. Hope you're feeling well and that you haven't had any more spotting. Em x

grexach - Monday, 30 June
Yay! That is so great! I am excited for you to see your little bean earlier than you expected. Can't wait to see the pics. My next u/s is only a few days later than yours on July 15th.
