Hi.. I am Jen. I have been married to the greatest guy for a year. We found out that we are expecting our first baby in October 2008!! We are so excited!! It is so amazing to know that we have created this baby inside of me! So far in my pregnancy, I am feeling pretty good. Just a little nausea and being tired all the time!! We have a minature daschund puppy, Hershey, who will probably have a hard time adjusting to a new baby.

February 11, 2008

Today, my period is a few days late. I decided I should take a home pregnancy test. I was so excited when I saw the second pink line!! My husband and I hadn't even been trying to get pregnant yet, so this was a complete shock to both of us! But we are both so excited about having a baby and entering the role of parenthood.

I am not sceduled for my first Dr. Appt until March 11. This is where we meet with the nurse and go over medical history and stuff like that. I go back to the Dr. on March 27 to have an exam and hopefully to hear the baby's heartbeat! I don't know if I can wait that long!!! Many of my friends had Dr. appts early on in their pregnancy and had ultrasounds at 6-8 weeks. I am pretty sure I won't have my first ultrasound until 20 weeks.

February 14, 2008

Happy Valentine's Day! My husband got me the Willow Tree figurine, Cherish. This is the one where the woman is holding her pregnant belly. It was such a sweet and thoughtful gift!! I am so thankful to have such a wonderful, caring, husband!!

So far, I am having no complications in my pregnancy and I feel great!! We have already told our friends and family that we are expecting a baby. We just couldn't keep it a secret!! Plus, with my job as an Occupational Therapist, I must tell my co-workers and bosses about the pregnancy. That way my co-workers can assist me in lifting/transferring patients and they can assign me easier patients to see that don't need lifted on. Also, I have to be extra cautious around patients that have infections, and not treat patients that have shingles or having chemo treatments.

February 19, 2008

I am starting to have some of the symptoms of pregnancy. I am just so tired!! My breasts are getting tender and I am so bloated! Some evenings, my belly sticks out so far I look like I am 5 months pregnant!! I am trying to eat healthier and drink lots of water.

February 28, 2008

Today I had my first doctor appointment. After lots of prayers, I decided to switch doctors. My old OB/GYN didn't want to see my for my first exam until 10 weeks, and I would only get one ultrasound around 20 weeks. I have friends that go to my new OB/GYN and just love her. I called yesterday, and was scheduled today for my appointment.

I met with a nurse and she gave me lots of information and free samples. I had blood work done, which actually wasn't that bad. I absolutely hate needles!! My nurse told me after my bloodwork, to call the office again and see if they had any openings for an ultrasound today. They were able to squeeze me in this afternoon and I had my first ultrasound! It was absolutely amazing!!!! You could see the heart beating on the screen, and I was able to hear it beating as well. The baby's heartbeat was 125 and it measured 0.92 cent long and 6 weeks 6 days old.

I am starting to feel some morning sickness. I am nauseous alot during the day. I get hungry all the time, but not much appetite to eat. My stomach is already sticking out some. But this is all worth it!!!!

March 12, 2008

I am in my 8th week of pregnancy and feeling pretty good!! The last week and a half, I have had very little nausea, and I have yet to really feel sick. I am still tired alot, but that seems to be better. I am hoping since I have made it this far without being too sick, that the rest of the pregnancy will be a breeze!

I had another doctor visit yesterday, and I was told that all my levels and bloodwork came break normal.. that was a big relief!! I go back monthly for routine checks, and should get my next ultrasound in the next 2-3 months!! I can't wait to find out if we are having a little girl or boy!! I think the most exciting part of finding out what we are having is getting to go shopping!!

I haven't gained any weight yet, but my stomach and breasts are getting bigger. In the mornings, my stomach is still pretty flat, but my evening I look to be 4 months pregnant! I ordered a Bella Band to wear over my normal jeans, so I am hoping to wear my jeans longer. It allows me to unbutton my pants and the band looks like the top of maternity pants. Plus it holds your stomach in tighter! I shall give it a try in a few weeks. I can't wait to look pregnant and not just chubby!!

April 2, 2008

11 weeks pregnant! So exciting!! I went to the doctor today and I got to hear the baby's heartbeat - 150 bpm. How amazing to hear the thumps fill the room!! Still no morning sickness.. I think I may have avoided it!! If only I could sleep better at nighttime and not be so tired!! I have also been having some hip pain. My hips only hurt after working all day at the hospital or nursing home. I bought gel insoles for my shoes.. hopefully that will help!! I can't wait to find out what we are having.. 9 weeks to go!!

April 22, 2008

I haven't done a very good job of keeping this thing updated!! I am in my 14th week and have been feeling great. No morning sickness or anything. But today has been not so good. On my way home from work, I was turning at a green light and some 83 year old partially deaf man ran a red light and I hit him. Luckily I was only going 5-10 mph and my air bag did not deploy, but I was pretty shaken up just thinking about what could have happened. I was not concerned about my car or myself, just my unborn baby. The old man seemed pretty disoriented and he will be cited for the wreck, but that doesn't help calm my nerves at all. I feel ok, and no cramping or stomach discomfort. I am going to call my doctor tomorrow and hopefully get an appointment for tomorrow to get checked out. I doubt I get much rest this evening :(.

April 23, 2008

Well today I went to the doctor and everything turned out great!! They found the baby's heartbeat using the doppler without a problem and it was 147 bpm. I was still concerned about the possibly of the placenta breaking off due to the wreck, so they did an ultrasound today. The baby measured right on schedule and looked great. It was cute.. the baby kept moving around and kicking its legs!! I am in love!! Oh.. and IT'S A BOY!!!!

My husband and I are so excited to be having a little boy! He will have a little hunting buddy haha. I can't wait til my 20 week ultrasound to see him again!!

May 12, 2008

I am now 17 weeks along. My belly is starting to look more like a pregnant belly, which is very exciting! Yesterday a complete stranger asked me when I was due, so that made me feel good!! My back and hips are finally starting to feel better. They still hurt pretty bad at times, but nothing like a few weeks ago. I threw up for the first time today!!! I thought for sure I was going to make it through this pregnancy without puking, but I guess I was wrong :( . I had taken my prenatal vitamins with breakfast, and I am pretty sure the vitamins just didn't settle well.

My husband and I moved into our new house over the weekend!!! How exciting to start a new chapter in our lives. It is peaceful at the new house, out in the country with a beautiful view! I can't wait to fix up the baby's room.. I still haven't decided what theme to go with. Possibly some sort of animals.. like baby farm animals or safari print.

We are going to the beach next week and I can't wait!!! It will be so nice to have a break from work and moving. Hopefully we have beautiful weather! I can't wait to wear my new cute maternity bathing suit and other cute maternity summer clothes I have bought! Hopefully I can survive the 10 hour car ride there!!

May 29, 2008

19 weeks!!! These past few weeks have been so exciting! I am feeling the baby move on a daily basis. He is an active little guy!! I can't wait until my husband will be able to feel him move, too! I went to the doctor Tuesday and she said I am doing great. I have gained 12 pounds now.. which doesn't surprise me b/c my belly is getting huge!! I am definitely all belly. The baby's heartbeat was 146 bpm at the the doctor's office. She had trouble finding the heartbeat and keeping it b/c he is just so active! I am scheduled for my 20 week ultrasound tomorrow morning.. I can't wait to see the baby again!!! I pray that nothing bad shows up on the ultrasound and he is a healthy little boy.

We spent last week at the Outerbanks in North Carolina. It was so beautiful there and so relaxing!!! We had a great time and didn't want to come back! Surprisingly, the 10 hour car ride wasn't too bad.. my back was uncomfortable from all the sitting, but nothing I couldn't deal with. My hips haven't bothered me in probably 2 weeks.. so that makes me very happy!! I am finally starting to feel like myself again!

June 14, 2008

22 weeks and I feel like crap!! I have this horrible cold and have been coughing my head off nonstop for the past two days!! I called my doctor, and she ordered me a prescription cough medicine and told me some over the counter medicines I can take as well. Nothing seems to help!! I coughed all night the last 2 nights and maybe got 3 hours of sleep. You wouldn't think I'd get sick when it is over 90 degrees outside!!!

On a positive note, I feel my baby kicking and moving a lot! It is so sweet to feel him moving around in there. My husband got to feel him kick on Thursday... he was pretty excited about that. I have picked out my baby bedding, now I just have to order it!!

We still haven't decided on a boy's name yet. Most likely it will be either Levi, Caleb, or Wyatt. Picking a name is so hard!!!

July 9, 2008

25 weeks along... how quickly this pregnancy is going by! I finally got over my cold. It took 3 weeks and 2 rounds of antiobiotics to get over it. I still don't have any energy. I just want to sleep all the time! Next week at my Dr. appt, I may ask them to test me for anemia just to be on the safe side. I should be having my gestational diabetes test sometime soon as well. I have been having heartburn in the evenings.. not fun at all!

I feel the baby move all the time now. On Monday night, I saw my belly move for the first time! It was the most amazing thing! I love feeling my baby move!

We still don't have a name picked out for him yet. It is such a hard decision! We are thinking maybe Jackson. And we also like Wyatt and Logan. I am not too worried about it. He will have a name by the time he arrives! We bought the baby furniture. I got it from a place called USAbaby in Pittsburgh. It is beautiful! It is a 3 piece set: convertible crib, 5 drawer dresser, and 3 drawer changer dresser. The crib was so easy to put together! We put the stroller together as well.. it is all so exciting! We registered for baby gifts at Toys R Us last week. My husband was a good sport!

I am starting to get a little bit nervous about the delivery. We need to sign up for childbirth classes sometime soon. It is so hard to believe that he will be here in less than 15 weeks!!

August 5, 2008

29 weeks and in my 3rd trimester! I love being pregnant, but I can't wait for my baby to get here so I can get my body back!! I don't sleep well at night. I will wake up in the middle of the night and be up for 1-2 hours before I can fall back to sleep. I have gained over 25 lbs now!! That is what I was hoping to gain my whole pregnancy. I guess I should be skipping the chocolate milk, ice cream, and junk food haha. I am soooo sick of people coming up to me and commenting how HUGE I am!! They say things like, "Are you sure you aren't having twins" and "You won't make it to October" and "You look miserable" and "You are going to have a huge baby". People can just be rude haha! I don't feel that huge, and honestly I don't think I am huge. I just have a big belly!

We had a 3D ultrasound yesterday! I just love seeing my little guy!! He is already head down. Hopefully he isn't planning on coming out anytime soon! He was so funny yesterday.. for every single picture, he had his hands in front of his face. Only one time in the whole hour did he move his hands. The ultrasound tech guesses his weight to be 3 lbs 11 oz, but she said she does tend to overguess their weights. I hope so!! My Dr. told me everything looks great with me. I had my gestational diabetes test this morning. The orange stuff wasn't that bad to drink. Just made me feel kinda yucky all day. Hopefully I get good results back!

I have my first baby shower this weekend! I can't wait!! Baby stuff is just so cute! I am really hoping to get my crib mattress and changing table pad soon, so I can finish decorating the nursery. The baby farm animals pattern is so cute.. I just love it! We still haven't decided on a final name for our baby. We have pretty much narrowed it down to Jackson, Grant, or Wyatt. I can't wait to meet him!!

August 10, 2008

30 weeks along! I had my baby shower today. It turned out great!! Around 25 people came to it.. friends and family. We had great food (which is very important to a pregnant lady) and cake! I got sooo many gifts!! Alot of people bought off my baby registry, so that was great! And we did a diapers/wipes raffle. Everybody who wanted to win a Longaberger basket brought a package of diapers or wipes to enter the raffle. I ended up with probably 10-15 packages of diapers and 15-20 packages of wipes!!! I can't wait for my next baby shower in September at the church!!

August 20, 2008

I can finally count the weeks left on my hands... 31 weeks along and less than 9 to go!! I can't wait to meet this little guy. These past two weeks have been horrible! I found out last week that I failed my 1 hour glucose test and would have to take my 3 hour test. I couldn't believe I failed!! I hadn't heard from the Dr. in a week, so I just assumed that I passed. Last friday, I took the 3 hour glucose test. I felt horrible during the test... sick to my stomach and feeling like I was going to pass out. I actually had to lay down on the floor of the lab waiting room to keep from passing out. I figured that wasn't a good sign :(. I got my results back this Monday and found out I failed! I was devastated! First of all, my Dr. office uses a recorded answering service to relay messages to their patients. At 5:30 pm, I got a phone call telling me there was a message from my Dr. The message just told me that I failed my 3 hour test, that I would have to meet with a diabetes consultant but I don't yet have an appointment, and that if I had any questions to call the office. Well of course the office closed at 4:30.. I was ticked off to say the least! I worried about it all evening until I got ahold of the Dr. office on Tuesday morning. I found out my blood sugar levels. My fasting level was fine, but I was over the limit on my 1,2,and3 hour levels.

I would have never imagined myself having gestational diabetes. I was so upset!! I met with the diabetes RN Tuesday afternoon and we went over a meal plan and blood sugar testing. The meal plan actually isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I am supposed to eat 3 meals and a snack 2 hours after each meal. So basically I eat 6 times a day now. And I just have to watch my carbs. I can have up to 22 carbs at breakfast, 30 with my morning snack, 60 at lunch, 15 afternoon snack, 60 dinner, and 45 evening snack. That really isn't too hard to do. I can eat normal sized meals for the most part, just limiting my junk food intake. The annoying part is checking my blood sugars 4 times a day!! So far my levels have been great.. hopefully they stay that way! I went grocery shopping and bought more fruits and veggies, lower carb options for things like bread and ice cream, and sugar free food choices. I have been hungry all day today.. hopefully my body adjusts to this new diet!

I meet with my Dr. next week. I hope to get results about my baby and hopefully the gestational diabetes has not affected him. Maybe we will get an extra ultrasound or two!!! My husband has been very supportive through this. I was so upset earlier this week, and was so good to me. I am so thankful to have him in my life.

August 27, 2008

32 weeks along. I had my doctor appointment yesterday, and everything went well, other than waiting an hour past my appointment time to see the doctor. I have gained 30 lbs so far this pregnancy. Hopefully I can keep my total weight gain under 40 lbs. My doctor said everything looks great with me. My weight is good, my blood pressure is normal, and no swelling. She said as long as keep my blood sugars normal, then the baby's blood sugars will stay normal. She also said my baby shouldn't be too big as long as keep the GD under control. I will have an ultrasound in 2 weeks at 34 weeks and then another at 36 weeks to monitor the size of our baby. I will probably be induced at 38 1/2 weeks as long as everything is going well!! I can't wait to meet our little guy!

The baby is very active in my belly! It is so amazing to see my stomach move as he moves, and to see a little arm or leg poke out! My husband and I like to "play" with him when he is poking out. He is most active when I am laying on the couch or sitting in the recliner. We are thinking about the name Jackson Levi. But we haven't made a final decision yet.

The GD diet hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. I am getting used to eating 6 times a day. I just wish I could eat when I was hungry and eat whatever I wanted to. But I know I am doing what is best for me and my baby. My blood sugars have been great for the last week. I haven't had a single reading over normal, so that is good! I know I only have to do this for a few more weeks, so that keeps me going. I told my husband as soon as we have this baby, we are going to eat at Olive Garden so I can overload on bread and pasta!!!!

I have alot to look forward in the next 2 weeks. My work is having a baby shower for me Sept 4. We have birthing class on Sept 6. And my husband's church is having a baby shower for us on Sept 7. I will be a busy girl!! Plus WVU football is starting this weekend.. go Mountaineers!!

I have GD. I am 37 wks. I had GD controlled with diet with my first pregnancy. This time around have it again but I am on insulin. i was diagnosised at 12 wks. After one week of high reading almost after everymeal is when they put me on insulin. They looked at what I ate and saw I was sticking to the diet and still not working is when the decision was made. I have to do insulin injections 3 times aday. Not as bad as I thought. The finger pricking hurts more than the shots do.

It still happens to me. I can eat the exact same thing one day and be fine and then eat it again and be high. You would think I would have it under control with all my experience. It is very frustrating.

Some thoughts of why. Under any extra stress this week. Stress can affect your numbers. Have your high readings been after a certain meals? Last weekend I had three readings in the 130s three times and I called my dietican and she said to wait a few more days and see. I have not had any readings over 115 since Monday. Some tricks that seem to help. Try drinking tons of water during and after your meal, walking for 15-30 mins after a meal helps, and having green leafy salad with meal helps also.

I saw on your page on how you want to go to Olive Garden I am right there with you. I told my family that as soon as doc say I can eat I want a huge plate of spaghetti and meatballs with tons of garlic bread followed by some type of cake(don't care) with lots of icing.

Let me know if I can help anyway? Have a great weekend.

Where do you live in West VA my inlaws live in Beckley.

I just stopped by to see how you are. I ead about the GB. It really sounds like you are handling it well. I think it would be so hard to follow a diet, even more so carb watching! Hang in there, you are almost there! I like the name Jackson!

rykersmommy! - Friday, 5 September

Bangel - Thursday, 4 September
My neighbor told me lots of sex and to eat peppers. I hate peppers and not in the mood for sex, but I will suck it up if it'll help bring on labor. hahaha

rykersmommy! - Wednesday, 3 September
Oh wow I didnt know that about baby boys I am having a boy also! Im excited but just wanting my husband to get more then a week with our child before he leaves for iraq

Bangel - Wednesday, 3 September
I'm hoping I only have to go 4 more weeks!! lol.
The other day my bladder started bothering me alot...that was my first clue that I probably dropped.

Shaymika1987 - Wednesday, 3 September
Oh I must do that then since all my kids come out with sensitive skin. Noticed that alot of us at this stage are nesting. Have you heard anything about when you get a boost of cleaning energy that your day is very near? Just thought I would ask old tale I guess.

felicia-lundstrom - Wednesday, 3 September
I'm getting along great so far!! I actually just got back from the store again with my mother in law so she could help me pick out a few things! I got sugar free crystal light and sugar free arizona pomagranite tea... it's wonderful. I also got sugar free grape jam and sugar free cookies, vanilla wafers, and peppermint cookies! I am in heaven. I've looked at the carbs on your page that you're aloud to eat for each meal and have been using those numbers until my appointment with the dietition. I called today to make an appointment, because that's what the nurse told me to do, and the man tells me I have to have a refearl from my Dr to set up an appt........ so jeeze, now it's going to be even longer before I go in. I haven't started testing my blood sugar yet, just waiting on my appointment to see when they will have me do that.

I'm wondering if I could have a small lunch portion of pasta with a little salad, and my cake w/ splenda. I called my bakery today where I'm having my cake made and they told me to come in and talk to the baker about making my cake w/ Splenda, so I'm hoping he can do that for me. If not, I'll just have a very very small piece. I'm worried too about how big my baby will be... I'm scared that he'll be unhealthy because of me :( Goodluck with finding out how big your lil one is. I'll be praying that both of us have normal sized babys and our sugar levels will stay right on track :)

Ok, I reallly do have a question though! I found whole wheat waffles that are 28carbs for 2 waffles, so I searched and searched for sugar free syrup and found it!!! I didn't see on the back that it had any sugar, but when I got home I looked again and it says Sugar Alcohol 12g or something like that, it also says that on the back of my sugar free pudding- sugar 0 sugar alcohol 9g or something like that. Should I not be eating that if it has sugar alcohol???? And ALSO, how many grams of sugar can I eat?? I have lite apple sauce that has 8g of sugar and I dunno if I can eat that... hmmm..

Good luck to you and baby!

Shaymika1987 - Tuesday, 2 September
wow 2 more baby showers you are really lucky you don't have to worry about anything. So you mean that you wash all his clothes even when you buy them new? Never heard of that before. Wow very interesting.

felicia-lundstrom - Sunday, 31 August
I'm doing well, I'm about to head to the store to pick up some things :) thank you very much for all the help you've given me. It's hard to know what I'm supposed to eat when I haven't been to see the dietition yet. So, thank you!! Omg a brownie sounds delicious :D I wonder if we could make home made brownies but substitute sugar for splenda... and get sugar free choc IF THEY HAVE ANY lmao which I'm guessing not.. but I tried :tounge

Do you think a slice of my baby shower cake w/o frosting would be ok?? It's in 2 weeks at Olive Garden and I have no idea what I'm going to do!! I want Chicken Alfredo.... I wonder if I could have any of the pastas there... or to just stay away from them completely. I am so mad lol! I wish I would've known I had this when I was planning my baby shower so that I wouldn't have booked it at a yummmy yummmmmy bad for me restraunt..

felicia-lundstrom - Sunday, 31 August
Mmm tacos! Great idea!!! Thank you. I haven't been to the store yet, because my husbands been at work with the car and we are so busy, but today for breakfast I had plain cheerios w/ slices of bananna, and for a snack I had sugar free yogart, and for lunch I had a salad w/ fat free ranch and an english muffin, then for dinner around 6:00 I had 2 scrabled eggs w/ cheese on a english muffin and grits, and around 10:00 I got really hungry and had a half a cup of pasta noodles w/ olive oil and garlic salt w/ slices of zuchinni and a peach.... I really have no idea if I should be eating all of that..... so I'm wondering if you could help me & lemme know what out of that, should I not be eating...

kiggs - Sunday, 31 August
Hey! Well no luck of the Irish for either of us, I just found out I have gestational diabetes too!
Its not as bad as I thought it ws going to be.
How are you feeling?

felicia-lundstrom - Saturday, 30 August
Thank you sooo much! I miss my chocolate milk too omg.. I had it 3 days ago, before I found out and I really wish I could have some right now ughhh. Thank you for the ideas! I've never heard of lite bread though, and I have no idea what it looks like... I'll have to go to the store again to find it.

Again, thank you. That really helped me

Bangel - Thursday, 28 August
4 times a day seems like alot! Poor girl!

I sound so pathetic trying to bend over or switch sides in bed...all grunting and groaning when I do. lol.

Bangel - Tuesday, 26 August
FINALLY got my glucose test results. I passed!!

I think the less carbs and just the fact that I had to have consistent eating habits would have been the hardest parts...not the lack of sweets.
Do you have to check yourself at home with like one of those acuchecks or something?

I am also officially in the miserable uncomfortable stage! October just cannot come soon enough!

Shaymika1987 - Tuesday, 26 August
I also started my depo at a young age, I did take me forever to get pregnant again. Kinda wish I was on it before this one. But my doc sad that it takes almost a year to completely get out of your system once you stop taking it.

Miska - Saturday, 23 August
Hello.. I read your comment about your baby's weight on the GD forum.. I just wanted to say that when I had my 29 week and 5 day U/S my baby girl weighed 3lbs 3oz's. There's only a few ounces difference between your baby and mine, but keep in mind, boys tend to be a little bit bigger then girls.. :D When my daughter was born, she was a whooping 6 lbs 15 oz's.. So keep your sugars low (no matter what) and stay positive.. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me..

MommyToGirls - Wednesday, 20 August
thank you, I totally forgot about the Vicks!!!

Bangel - Wednesday, 20 August
So sorry you have to deal with GB!!!
At least there isn't too much time left now!
Is the diet very strict??

Not sure I'm going to be able to find out my results this week cause my doc is out of the office. So frustrating!!

The day I took the test..they tested my blood right away before giving me the drink and that one was fine. And they tested the last blood draw right away too before letting me go home, and I had low sugar for that one.

JenGrrrl - Tuesday, 19 August
I have GD too. Don't worry, I felt the exact way as you. I had no problems, no morning sickness, no food adversions, and when I got diagnosed I was crushed. But after meeting with my diabetes coach and having a great support group of family and friends, I know that baby and I will be healthy. You and your baby boy will be happy and healthy too!

KarenVG - Tuesday, 19 August
Your Doctor will help , it is there job to do that, sorry you have GD but you will be OK. My sil had it and managed it ok... Just make sure if you have questions you ask them at the doctors...that is what they are there for...

suhana - Tuesday, 19 August
Hi There,

I read ur message regarding GD...Dont get dishearted...All the doctor will do is put on a well balanced diet...

So nothing to worry..Just be calm and relaxed..

Take care,

Bangel - Thursday, 14 August
My doc doesn't seem worried about the glucose test, so guess I'm not either. Right now I'm just thinking about the awful fact of having to sit there in the hospital for 3 whole hours!!
Good luck to you...let me know how you do!

Melissa247 - Tuesday, 12 August
i didnt pass my one hour test either and i have to start taking iron pills as well i found out the lovely news three days ago..i go thursday for my three hour test good luck to you : )
