Hey ladies I just wanted to let you know I posted my ultrasound pics up if you want to look. At first I have to admit I was a little bummed about not having a girl.. But now with each moment I think about my son I fall more in love with him.

canuck - Friday, 17 October
hey everyone..Just wanted to let you know I had to take down all my daughters pictures. After adding a bunch of new ones yesterday a friend showed me a link to a woman on another baby site who was using Anika's pictures as her own. I have contacted site admin and it is being taken care of but as of now I will no longer post her pictures on here. For those of you I talk to on a regular basis I will add you to facebook or grab your email so that I can send you new pictures once the new little man arrives

Hi :) I saw your post on week 16 and had a quick question.... you found out your baby was a boy (congrats by the way!!) ...but what did his, um, parts look like via ultrasound? I mean was it obvious to you?? Do you happen to have a picture of them?? I had an ultrasound done at 15.6 weeks and the tech couldn't tell (she seemed really new) and kept flitting between a boy and a girl. I'm just really interested in seeing boy ultrasounds to see if mine was similar or not lol. Any help would be appreciated!!

Yes Jeny, I too know that test come out wrong alot of the times. Take it easy and try not to stress until you have more information.I promise that you will be in my prayers for a good outcome. Just remember only God has the final results, and he is good all the time:) Stay strong

Hey Jeny, I had that test with my second child and it came back with a very high posotive number for Downs and I was so afraid and crying. I decided to get the amnio to be prepared if my baby did have down syndrome. It came back negative and I was very mad my doctor scared me so much and didn't tell me that only like 1 in 300 posotive results is actually really a child with down syndrome. When I left after my amnio I thought I was fine but about 4 hours later I gushed amniotic fluid and was in the ER. They had to check my fluid to see if my baby was still alive. My water was so low they didn't think my baby was gonna make it. They sent me home on bedrest with vicodin and told me to rush to the hospital if I started bleeding. Luckily, I was on bedrest for a couple months and my body healed and my baby boy was ok and born healthy. I would not suggest this test to anyone. Especially if you don't plan on terminating if the baby still has a health problem. It was very scary and with my last pregnancy I didn't get the test.

Hi there,
I'm a bit confused. How can they know about your risk factor without doing the second round of blood work and the NT test??? The second blood still needs to be drawn at 15 week (gestational age). The thing is with these results is they are a combination of a set of tests...not just one. And those sets of tests give you an odds percentage. In my case I am 38 and considered high risk. I got a result from the tests of 1:15 for tri 21 or downs. So I totally understand what you are going through. That was with a neg NT scan as well! So I was totally freaked. It was only a few weeks ago now. I decided on the amnio right away... and I added something called a FISH test that give you results on tri 13, 18 & 21 within 24-48 hours and it came back neg. So we started to breath again. The 1:15 translates into 97% of women find out there is no problem at all. I would never try and tell you what to do but I would suggest you might want to have a further conversation with your Dr and ask what these results are based on when you havent had a second screen or NT. I would also ask him/her what the actual percentage is showing.
For me the choice with the amnio was scary but clear. We had to know and it was the only way to be sure. With the level of care at the local hospital and its ratings the risk was less than 1:400 for miscarriage and with a 1:15 for downs its was worth it for me. I am personally very glad I did it although I am scared of needles and dont even have pierced ears!!! If I were in your shoes I think I might question the doc on this one... only coz I dont think you are far enough along for that sort of definitive call and the call isnt definitive anyway without an amnio or CVS. Either way...whatever you decide to do please know there are others out there who have been in your shoes and almost all have had happy endings to this scary time. So try to hang in there! Let us know how it goes...

I tested positive for Downs and they told me there is only a 5% chance that my baby boy had it. The nurse told me not to worry about it and that she has been working with my dr for 7 years and has at least one come back positive once a week. They have only delivered 2 babies in that time that had it and they were both to women over 40. So try not to worry to much about it.

gisik - Friday, 8 August
Jeny, try not to worry too much. As many others have said here, it's not a diagnostic test but purely a risk assessment. I know in the UK anything below 1 in 250 is classes as high risk (so positive) - but even if you analyse that - this means for every 250 babies you have, only one would be affected.
So think of it that way. Also, if you decide to opt for a diagnostic test like an amnio, please don't worry about that too. One of my close friends has been a midwife for 30 years and she says she would be happy to have an amnio even just to determine the gender! So, even though there is a small risk, she doesn't see it as being risky. Anyway, good luck and please try not to worry yourself. You can't do anything to change the situation so think positive and remember there is a much higher chance of everything being just fine.

Hi, I'm from week 24 and was just reading through your posts about screening tests, I too had a high risk result for downs (1 in 210), at first I was a mess but then looking on the internet the triple test is only 66% correct and has a 1 in 5 chance of producing a false postive. Also I read about people with risk factors such as 1 in 50,000 and they have been that 1 person so try not to panic too much (I know easy for me to say I'm on the other side now). Me and my partner went to a genetic counceller and after speaking to her we decided to wait until our 20 week scan to see if there were any soft markers for downs(this isn't 100% accurate) then make the desicion on wether to have a amnio or not. Our 20 week scan looked normal and our little boy looks healthy the scan lady checked for nasel bone, heart, reanal function and looked at the nucal fold which are all good indicators of downs if missing or not correctly plumbed in. We decided not to have the amnio and to risk the outcome at birth. We had already decide to keep the baby either way and the amnio would just be to prepare us for what to expect after the birth, if your not prepared to raise a child with downs or any other disability I suggest you have the amnio as soon as possible that way you will know for sure either way and can deal with the situtation as you choose. Just remember this is your child and you shouldn't be forced into any tests your uncomfortable with. Good luck and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Let me know how you get on. xx

P.S This test is supposed to be done after 15 weeks according to this web site your only 13 weeks it probably can't be accurate this early in pregnancy, also if your are 13 weeks you still have time to go for a nucal fold scan a non invasive test where they measure the fluid at the back of the babys neck and give you a risk factor from there but you will need to book it very soon as the best time to view it is before 15 weeks. Or the only accurate way to find out is CVS or Amnio but they are your choice as they both carry a chance of miscarriage.

Hey there. Saw your comment .... I haven't done my tests yet, but from talking to my doc i understand that it's VERY common to have a false positive .... like 15-25% .... that's why my doc told me that i should go for the test ONLY if i am not going to freak out :) coz this happens a lot ..... it just gets people to worry and at the end everything is fine .... i guess you will have to do additional tests ... but i would say try not to think about it and think positive!!! God bless!

kellysbelly - Friday, 8 August
My prayers are with you and your little angel right now. Try your hardest to be strong and stay positive. I just read all the comments on your page. It's a false positive Im sure! I just had a scare. My bebe had a cyst on his brain and 2 weeks later the cyst disappeared. I know how you feel. Just be strong and dont research on the internet...it will scare you 100000 times more. I would go see a doctoe again asap. My prayers are with you.... everything will be okay. OXOXOXOOXOX

Also, I forgot to put this...maybe it will ease your mind a little....

The triple screen is measuring high and low levels of AFP and abnormal levels of hCG and estriol. The results are combined with the mother's age, weight, ethnicity and gestation of pregnancy in order to assess probabilities of potential genetic disorders.

High levels of AFP may suggest that the developing baby has a neural tube defect such as spina bifida or anencephaly. However, the most common reason for elevated AFP levels is inaccurate dating of the pregnancy.

Low levels of AFP and abnormal levels of hCG and estriol may indicate that the developing baby has Trisomy 21( Down syndrome), Trisomy 18 (Edwards Syndrome) or another type of chromosome abnormality.
It is important to remember that the triple test is a screening test and not a diagnostic test. This test only notes that a mother is at a possible risk of carrying a baby with a genetic disorder. The triple screen test is known to have a high percentage of false positive results.

I found that at..
