April 2nd 2008

Hi all, not sure if any of my old friends will still see this but just a quick note to say Millie is doing really well. She's nearly 6 months old, onto solids (just) fully formula fed now, and a real livewire. I still experience all sorts of highs and little lows as she has grumpy days and good ones, but mainly she's so cute and funny and I love to hear her laugh!! Good luck to you all. (photos on my photobook!)

Millie Isabella! 8 pounds 13, 52 cm long, 10 days overdue and healthy!

My Birth Story!

Millie was bornon Oct 15th at 7.54am (Monday morning). I was 10 days overdue and fretting she would have to be induced when during Sunday lunch I felt more mild contractions, each one 15 mins apart. I didnt want to get my hopes up but this time was for real! They were getting closer by the hour and by 6.30 I knew I was in the early stages. I was hoping for a water birth but found that I could only cope with the pain by standing under a shower. Of course that took its toll and by 9.30pm I was tiring but just coping. We told the midwife who said prob early morning she'd see us as these things take time. I was gutted!! By midnight I was in serious pain and contractions were every 3 mins for 45 seconds plus. By 2am I said to Dave we have to call and wake her, I cant hold on anymore. I was in serious pain, but more than that just tired from the standing! We called the midwife and she said meet you there. My big worry all the way through was that I'd not be able to handle the contractions in the car, however they basically stopped! I was pretty much fine all the way into the room. They hooked me up and I was only 3cm dilated but the contractions were strongish and every 2 mins! They gave me hormones to intensify the contractions and I asked for an epi as I was exhausted and needed a break. The epi was fine and not scary but left a 'hole' of sensation in the right hand side of my abdomen which meant I could feel everything there. So I was sucking gas and air too, which I quite liked, in a weird way. I went from 3 to 9cm dilated in one hour after the hormones, and had to start pushing at 6am. I had no idea it would be like that, they'd turned the epi off so I had sensation, and I pushed with everything I had but got nowhere. I felt like a failure really - I'd assumed I'd be good at that bit. I had to push through contractions but was so shocked by the feeling of her in the birth canal, the intense pressure and pain that sometimes I'd panic and not push and then boy oh boy would I suffer! It turned out her hand was beside her face and she got stuck halfway down, but we didnt know that then. Her heartbeat was strong thank God, but I was totally wiped. Suddenly I managed to move her a bit and soon I felt her crown. It gave me the incentive to push with new reserves harder than I thought I could. I did feel the burning as she stretched me which was the icing on the cake ;-) SO I felt very sorry for myself! I was trying to hold her there for a cut to relieve the pressure but then I couldnt and with one almighty push she slithered out in a gush, taking everyone by surprise. The midwife smiled, looked at the clock and said 7.54am!! I started a kind of keening I suppose you could call it, like a weird crying which I couldnt stop for an hour or so! David had a tear or two in his eyes too. They put her on me but her cord was short so only on my tummy, then I delievered the placenta very easily and she could finally move to my chest. She cried ALOT which was great, then they did the tests. 8 pounds 13 or 3995 g, 52 cm long and healthy as could be. She looked kind of funny, with the puffy eyes. What a relief to be done! I needed vaginal and perenial stiches which was ok, I didnt care by then!. I finally gave her to her Dad (after all our phone calls and texts) and had a shower. I couldnt believe the blood which comes out, and how weak I was. That breakfast the midwife then bought me was the sweetest food I ever ate! After another hour or two we were moved into our room. Unfortunately it was shared with a VERY noisy mother/baby and her extended family. It was the saddest part really, trying to bond and feed and sleep with all the tension in the air. but the hospital midwives were awesome and I liked them all. Millie wouldnt feed as I have shortish nipples and she wouldnt latch. So I had to express milk manually and by machine which was exhausting as then I had to try and latch each feed too, plus feed manually! They really recommended co sleeping to help the bonding and establish milk, and I loved that. I was nervous I might squash her, but never came close to doing that, and sleeping with her was the most beautiful thing ever. SHe nestled up to me, face to my breasts, feet to my tummy and sometimes her head on my breast or upper arm, and we slept like that each night for the 3 nights we were there. I couldnt quite believe she was mine, I felt like I was borrowing her! By the morning of Thursday we had some sort of breakthrough as she would finally feed from me with the help of a nipple shield. I didnt realise then how hard it would be to wean her off them though! She wont go near the nipple without one now, so I need to keep trying to wean her over the next few days. We also had to wean her onto her own bassinette, which we have now done really successfuly. She is a total dreamboat, feeds for a long time each time which is tiring, but then sleeps long too, In fact last night I fed her at 9.30, 3.30 and 6.30. WHat a lovely schedule for a newborn! My only fears right now are the nipple shield and that fact her dad goes back to work in two days, so the night feeds I'll be alone, and even though I do most of the work, its nice to know he's there to burp and change her for me. But his folks arrive in an hour and I'll have alot of support during the day which is great. So thats my tale! I swore never again at the time, but now I think...'well maybe I could!'...

hi everyone. Here are some pics I had processed over the weekend.

27 August 2007

40 days to go! WOOHOO (give or take ;-)). So far so good health wise. I am feeling much more cumbersome now, hauling myself out of bed for the thrice nightly wee is getting harder! I spend an hour a day in the bath which really helps. I must say my admiration for mums who have children already and are pregnant again is enormous! I am so lucky to be able to be so 'selfish' and focus on the baby and myself, plus of course the hubby and Coco! (mainly in that order hehe)

As mentioned on the forum I have found it harder lately to keep happy all the time, even though I know I've got nothing to be sad about. Little comments and glimpses of myself looking like a giant waddling creature bring me down. I dont like to think of myself as vain though! I mean I know its pregnancy, and this is what happens. I should just get over myself I guess. I'm STILL working on the bee animation, and need to crack on to make sure I finish in time.

We had our 'practical' anti natal this weekend, learning how to burp and change a baby, and a new mum bought her adorable 5 week old son in and bathed and changed him for us. I must say I had tears in my eyes a fair bit! I cant wait to meet my girl.

Last week I bought her a couple of little dresses from Pumkin Patch which has suddenly gotten SO cute. A red ginham one for Christmas and a white smocking dress over red and white striped leggings. We're being sent alot of hand me downs so trying to take it easy, but man, this stuff is too cute to resist. I will post the pics here.

Lots of love to all of you, keep your heads held high. We're all doing an incredible job at what must be the single most important thing we as humans can do. Enjoy the relative peace before your little bundle arrives, and when you feel sad go and look at a few baby clothes in their drawer! Too cute x

this is not my baby ;-)

27 July 2007

So we got some news today at our 30 week scan! We're having a girl! I think she looks peaceful here...

Hey Alex also loves cruskits! my sister asked if it would be OK to give him one last week (the corn ones) and i checked the box and they seem totally fine. He was so into them, it entertained him for 15mins at least lol. x

katie22 - Wednesday, 9 July
Hi hun, I think both the formula and ear plugs ideas sound like good ones. We are just now in the process of weaning him and i do find he sleeps so much better at night if i give him 100ml of formula before i feed him. We just went out for some japanese food and he ate quite alot of rice and miso soup! like 1/3 of a small bowl. I am not sure if these things are OK but he seemed to love them ;) working is quite annoying. I am only working .5 so it is not too bad. I just try to get it over with working two full days mon and tues and a half on wednesday. I find it so much easier working than looking after grumpy bum though lol As for hubby he is studying at the moment but has a pretty flexible timetable so things work quite well. You are so lucy Millie sleeps so well! it must make things so much easier!! i have been checking out all your photos and you have bought her such cute outfits! She is so cute. Is she totally formula fed now? i think i remember you saying she has been for some months but am not sure. Is she crawling? Alex gets up into that rocking position put then falls back down to tummy. He has started having real temper tantrums lately when he can't have things he wants i.e., dads glasses, taps in bath lol how is millie with these things? take care hun x

katie22 - Wednesday, 9 July
hey Jenni, thanks for your post! it is great getting advice on different foods to try, i will def try the grated cheese tonight! we have tried baby yoghurts and he totally loved them until he got sick so hopefully he may just come right. I just popped home in my lunch break and he does seem quite a bit worse- cheeks bright red, chest sounding so crackly so he is off to the docs with hubby. On the upside he slept for 6hrs straight last night from 6:15pm till 12:15 pm. Now if only we could swap that to 12:15am- 6:15am lol. How is your little one sleeping? she is so cute! x

nearly 30 - Tuesday, 8 July
Morning. Well I had a terrible night as all 3 kids were in my bed at one point. Too much sugar from the tea party I think!!!! Will have to remember not to put m and ms on the birthday cake next time. he he.
I love hearing about Millie, she sounds soooo much like Seren and i canr believe they are so alike that they are even wearing the same t shirts. lol. Seren also loves throwing things away that she doesnt want and loves tothrow things so the kids pick them up, then she throws them again and again and has so much fun. megan and liam keep picking it up for her and she has them wrapped round her litttle finger. She also has little tantrums if you take something off her and lays face down on the floor feeling very sorry for herself. It usually only lasts a minute but I know from experience that they will eventually last much longer!!!!
I will go offline on the 13th and hopefully will be set up quite quickly in the new place so shouldnt be gone for too long. Lee will still be away a lot but we should actually see more of him as hes normally in the uk on courses and has evenings and weekends off so now we will be in the uk aswell he will be able to come home. He usually goes to stay at my dads and my dad has probably seen more of him in the last few years than I have. They get on pretty well and quite often go out for a meal together so thats great as my dad gets a bit lonely in the big house on his own. hes so excited about us going home as we will only be an hour drive from his house so he is going to come and visit lots. the kids love their Bampy so much and they hate being away from him.
That photo of Lee and Seren did actually remind me of the one of David and Millie. They both look like they love their daddys heaps. Thank goodness Lee had a hat on as hes let his hair grow longer and looks so scruffy. Hes got really thick wiry hair and it goes a bit nuts when its not been cut.
I love your sketches,do they take you long to do? You are so lucky to be so arty. Im pants and dont have an artistic bone in my body. Im sure i will find my hidden talent one day, although my friend thinks I deserve a medal for being on my own with 3 kids so often so maybe thats my special talent. lol.
Oh well Seren waking from her nap and Im heading out to get her new carseat today. Almost 200 euros for the one I want but its something I never scrimp on and you never know we might have another baby one day who can use it aswell.
Gotta dash. Take care

Hola
Just a quickie to see how you and Millie are doing? Hopefully you are all back in your routines now. Hows the weather? I spoke to my father in law today in Hawkes bay and he said its freezing. Its gorgeous here and hitting 30 degrees some days which is fab.
How are you getting on with working from home? Is it difficult working around Millie or is it pretty easy to do while she sleeps?
All busy here. Today was megs birthday and I still cant believe my little girl is actually now a big girl. She had so much fun but Im shattered now after having a house full of kids all hyper on sweets and juice. It was worth it to see how happy she was. Just think in 3 short months we will be planning Seren and Millies first birthdays. MAD!!!
Oh well gotta go to bed and get some beauty sleep I really need it. LOL
Take care

Thanks, but Millie is made for TV...She is the cutest. She is what I would imagine the perfect baby to look like :-)

loulou - Monday, 7 July
Hey Jenni, hope your doing well. your photos are real lovely. Looks like you had a lovely time. The going away party looks great! You look great too.. no weight!! How did you loose all the baby weight or did you put much on?? Were you looking forward to returning or was it the opposite? It must have been great catching up with all your friends again after such a long time. Hope Millie has settled back into routine again.. Must have been difficult for you all with the time difference and travelling etc. Even though it is cold etc over it must be still lovely to be able to wrap up and head off for walks.. Our summer is almost as cold as our winter at the moment over here..! Its real windy and drizzly etc and very cold.. We had a lovely time in the alps.. we did so much in such little time. I will upload some pics. The weather over there was so beautiful got sun burned and all imagine..! We did lots,, climbed the mountain to see the family, played crazy golf went up to the top of a ski jump, watched an ice hocky game, went to a fab waterpark and hired out bikes and cycled into the mountains its was so beautiful. It was great catching up with the family.. they were so welcoming we had dinner there and just relaxed totally its a lovely part of the world. Also pigged out toatally eating out all the time.. Grace is doing real good i've her hair tied up on top now and she looks real cute. Shes really getting to know herself these past few days and is a little off food has Millie ever been like that?? It's a struggle to get her to finish her bottle.. Anyhow i'l go for now and try to upload a few photos. Love, hugs and kisses to all. Lourdax

Hola
Just checked out your photos and they are so lovely. Millie just looks like shes such a big girl and her smile is beautiful. I just want to squeeze those lovely cheeks. I hope that waking her early is helping her settle again. Seren not been sleeping too great for a few nights but Im praying she settles down before we leave as I have the huge drive home and we are doing the overnight ferry so I will be a wreck if i dont get some sleep on the boat. I dont know how I will manage the drive if Im that tired. Fingers crossed shes ok.
Also Im considering giving up breast feeding soon. I wanted to last til she was one but for the last week shes been teething and has decided to use me as her teething chewy toy. My other kids did bite occasionally but she did it so many times the other night she drew blood. Not fun at all. I gave her a bottle before bed tonight but after 7oz she was still hungry so i gave her some breast milk and she bit me again. Im going to see if she stops over next few days otherwise Im going to just stick with the bottle.
Im still busy trying to organise my life but things arent going to plan. Its Megs birthday on Monday so shes having a sleep over with 2 friends tomorrow night and then having a little tea party on Monday so that will keep me busy. A house full of kids on my own all night. I must be mad. lol.
Not much else been happening. and I have been so busy I STILL havent had my hair cut. I think I need to organise my time a little better.
Oh well Id better go to bed as I dont think Ill get much sleep with 3 giggling girls up all night tomorrow aswell as Liam and Seren.
Take care
Love Claire

Hi Good to hear you got back safe and sound and Millie was good for you again on the flights. Hopefully she will be back in her routine in no time.
All good here. Serens first tooth is getting really big now and her top gums are now really white and looking like some are getting ready to pop through. It will probably take ages like the first one did but I hope it hurries up as shes getting quite a bit of pain. Shes biting everything and drooling a bit aswell and has completely gone off her food.
Lee headed back to the UK yesterday to get things ready for the new house. He starts work then on Monday and me and the kids move over the Monday after. His 10 days here with us went so fast but it was great and the kids were so happy. Not long anyway til we see him again. Im frantically trying to organise stuff but the amount of paperwork that the army needs filling in is ridiculous. The removal company are going to do most of the packing but they want the beds and other pieces of furniture taken apart. We also have a 14 foot trampoline that my friends hubby is going to take down for me. Its a bit hectic but hopefully we will get it sorted.
Not much else is going on. Seren can say Hiya now and everytime she sees anyone she says hiya then waves goodbye. Very funny to watch her doing it over and over again.
How was the weather while you were in the UK? It was 33 degrees here yesterday but my dad said it was raining in the UK. Looking forward to seeing some of your holiday snaps.
Oh well gotta dash as Seren napping and Im supposed to be sorting this house.
Take care

Hey Jenni, welcome back how are you?? Had u a wonderful time.. cant believe how quickly the time has gone by.. how did the fly etc go with Millie? We came back from the alps on Sat nite it was just unbelievable.. really beautiful the villiage we were in was oberstdorf. Check it out sometime. All the snow caped mountains etc. I visited the people i worked for 12 years ago, they got some surprise, hadnt told them i was visiting! Grace got on well at home really missed her though. Shes doing so much since we left even though it was only for two nights shes doing lots of different things. Well honey your probably wrecked. Looking forward to catching up on all the news!! Love Loux

Hola
Just thought Id drop by and say hi. Hope you had a great holiday and dont suffer too much with jetlag when you are back. All good here. Lees home. Yipee!! Only for a week and a half but better than nothing. We move house on July 14th now and I have to drive back to the UK on my own and Im dreading it. We are taking the overnight ferry to break the journey up a little but its going to be awful.
Not much else been happening. The kids are loving having daddy home and Seren loves him and constantly putting her arms up so he will pick her up. Shes got him wrapped around her little finger already.
Liam gets his stitches out Friday and the treatment for his arm will finally be over. Thank God. Megs just busy planning her birthday which is on the 7th July and I think she s just going to have a little sleepover with her friend and a dvd and some treats. Cant believe my little girl is going to be 8 and shes getting so grown up.
Off to bed now to catch up on some zzzzzzzzzzz. Speak soon

Hola
Quick update on Serens tooth. I can feel the little spike and you can see its almost through. Yipee!!! She vomited everywhere last night before bed but was fine after and has done exactly the same tonight. She just sat there covered in sick smiling away at me. Im hoping its cos shes feeling poorly cos of her teeth though i dont know why it would make her throw up. Shes got no temperature and is still really happy so hopefully its nothing.
Oh well gotta go to bed Im shattered. Lee home in a few more sleeps. Soooooo excited.
Speak soon

Hi
Hows your holiday going? When are you heading home now?
All busy here as usual and Liam had his last (hopefully) operation on his arm today and had the pins removed. Its been a long day but he seems to be doing really well. We go back again tomorrow so they can check it but hopefully after that it will all be over. Fingers crossed.
Seren has almost got a tooth. You can see where the gum is split and I can feel the tooth just under the gum. She didnt sleep very well last night and tonight was really sick before I put her to bed so Im hoping it will poke through soon and things will settle down.
Lees back on the weekend hopefully. YIPEEEE Im so excited. We had the move date to take over our new house as July 1st but the office this side reckon they cant get a removal truck until August 1st which means Lee will be back in work and they are expecting me to move back to the UK with 3 kids on my own. How great is that!!!! Hopefully it will get sorted but I know what they are like so Im not feeling too confident. Ive had too much other stuff to stress about with Liam to even think about moving anyway.
Oh well gotta dash. Hope you are having heaps of fun
Love Claire

Hey sorry i took so long to reply- i am way behind on so many things but kept seeing your message and starting to write but not finishing. Well things here have been a little crazy. Alex was diagnosed with infantile spasms/aka west syndrome- a rare type of epilepsy happening in infancy. He had multiple, recurrent seizures that finally went away after he was put on a drug called vigabatrin. It has been a very tough year in so many ways! i finally have him sleeping a little better at night after letting him scream it out but feel physically and mentally drained. Your daughter looks adorable. Lots of love, KT

Hola
Hope you are having a fab time with your sister. I bet she was so excited to meet Millie. Life still hectic here. Spent 3 and a half hours at the hospital on Friday wilth Liam. hes finally had his cast removed and was chuffed cos they let him keep it so he can show his daddy. He has to go back to hospital on Wednesday for another surgery to remove the pins from his arm , but hopefully after that he will be sorted. They originally said he would get it done under local anesthetic but now they are going to put him to sleep. His surgery is at 7am so it will be a mega early start for us so he will probably be very grumpy and Im not looking forward to it at all.
Poor Seren is still getting hassled by her sore gums. She sometimes cries when she bites something really hard and I feel pretty sorry for her. Its strawberry season here and she loves them but gets in a huge sticky mess but they are nice and soft on her gums. She also loves marmite or vegemite on toast and seems to want to eat everything that we have. Shes like a little dog begging for scraps when she sees anyone eating. lol!!
Only about a week and a half now til lees home and I cant wait. Im going to have a huge lie in while he gets up and sorts the kids. I think I deserve one.
Im off to bed now as Im pooped.
Catch up soon
Love Claire

How funny that you are actually awake the same time as me and not in bed. Hopefully you are adjusted to the time difference now.
We are moving to a place called Hereford in England. Looking forward to being closer to home for a bit but will miss Germany aswell as weve been here for 4 and a half years and have made lots of good friends. Poor Liam only started school in September and in a few weeks will be starting his 3rd new school. Hopefully we wont be moving round too much for next few years.
Take care
