IT’S A BOY!

I have been married 12 years and I have a 9 year old son. We have been trying off and on to get pregnant for 7 years and I could not conceive. We wanted to give it another go and I got pregnant that same month. The pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at 10 weeks. We waited 2 months and tried again and I got pregnant that month. So far the pregnancy has been going well. I pray that he will continue to grow healthy.

02/27/08

As of today, I am 2 cm dilated and 60 percent effaced. My doctor told me that I will be lucky to make it to 35 weeks. I pray that I will make it that far so at least he will be 5 & 1/2 pounds. I am trying to get all of my baby shower gifts organized to see what I need and what I need to take back. Some outfits I got 3 of the same style!

Message to all This may be interesting to some of you. Seema`s email is seema.modhvadia@rdftelevision.com

Hi there,

I work for a television production company based in the UK . We are currently making a documentary for ITV1 exploring the issues surrounding pregnancy and eating disorders. The film will be a thoughtful and insightful look into this extremely sensitive subject.

We’re in the research stage of our production and very keen to chat to women who are, or have been, pregnant whilst having an eating disorder.

If you’re interested in having a chat or finding out more about our documentary, it would be really great to hear from you. All communication would be in complete confidence.

You can contact me on: seema.modhvadia@rdftelevision.com

I go to my 35 week appointment tomorrow and will find out the deal with what is going on with me..lol..i think my baby has already dropped not sure though..I only say that because ive been getting a lot of pressure down low..and painful it is. Ive also been getting stabbing pains down in my private area..

I really hope my baby is going to grow lots more. I had my first daughter at 37 weeks and she was 7lbs 15 ounces. That is a good size. Congrats to you!

Im organizing my shower stuff too. I already know what I will be taking back but I think I will wait a couple of weeks. even tho I am off bedrest I am still going to take it easy. I have tons to do like getting the room ready and washing clothes... but Im going to do everything one day at a time. today I went windowshopping at the stores my friends gave me giftcards for (carter, oshkosh and target). tomoro I have a dentist appt and I dont plan to do anything else.

flineagle - Tuesday, 11 Mar
thanks. I was not dilated and I was only on light bedrest for 4 weeks with brethine meds. at 34 weeks my girl should be able to breathe on her own. I hope that she waits till she is ready, maybe even past my due date to make sure I am ready lol.
do follow your doctors orders. I pray you will have patience and be filled with joy as your await your son. its best if he can stay inside you till the end, Im sure hes nice and warm in there.

I was on procardia for the same reason. I feel like it did help that contractions from being so frequent. me on the other hand felt horrible when i took it bc of the side effects. I think that you should follow the docs instrustions and as hard as it may be take the meds and keep her in. your little one may seem healthy but she still has a lot of developing to do... she needs to stay in especially for her lungs and so that she doesnt have to be hooked to the tubes and meds. I was 33-34wks when i was in the hosptial and as much as I want her to be born, i would rather her be inside me healthy and developed. good luck!!

just1sillygirl - Monday, 10 Mar
Hi There! There's someone in my childbirthing class in the same situation as you, but they've had her on meds for a while to stop the contractions. They have her on a medicine called Procardia and we talked about it a little in class. They say it's safe for the baby, but if you have the chance do a little online research and see how you feel about it. From what I've read, having the baby stay in as long as possible is the best way to go.

bekah123 - Monday, 10 Mar
Have they put you on bed rest?

fruitypebbles - Monday, 10 Mar
Hi Jennifer, I would really try and keep ur little one in for as long as u can. I dont know what it is like in the US but here in Australia if u have a baby to early (i thik b4 37 weeks) they keep the baby in hospital wile they send u home! That would b sooo hard. But saying that no matter what happens i'm sure u and bub r going to b just fine.

Hi, hon. I had my daughter at 35 weeks, 3 days, 17months ago. I would recommend keeping that baby in until at LEAST 36 weeks. My daughter was okay, but she was very small and refused to gain weight for awhile.. We had to convince the doctors that we were feeding her up until she was 13 months old! She's very smart, but we couldn't breastfeed because she didn't know how to latch-on.. Any amount of time helps, so take it easy!

mamagair - Sunday, 9 Mar
I would be nervous too. My doctor told me before 34 weeks she would stop my labor, which is 2 weeks earlier than they normally say; but your doctor would know your situation best. From what you have said about being dilated and losing your mucus plug, I think if you go into labor, they can try to stop it, but you will end up having her anyways. The doctors and nurses will be ready for the baby too, and she may spend time in the NICU but at 34 weeks she has a real good chance of being delivered without complications afterward. Plus, they will give you a steriod shot to help the baby's lungs develop. Just politely state to the doctor how you feel, and maybe she will 'give in.'

munkobaby - Sunday, 9 Mar
I read your post on our 34 wk page. I am having our son at 36wk/3 days via csection. It's almost a month early, but with the complications i have had, the dr. said that's what he is willing to do. I haven't had much labor, but he did have me go in for the steriod shots two days in a row, so that the babies lungs would develop quicker. You might want to ask your dr. about that. I have read that 'most' babies who come between 34-37 wks have some but minimal problems, most of that being their lungs, jaundice, and feeding issues if they can't suck and swallow correctly. I hope that you are doign well and that you can relax a bit. Sorry to hear about the labor - we just can't stop nature, can we. Take care and please keep us posted.

jessicaann - Sunday, 9 Mar
wow i read your comment in the 35wk thing and i dont know too much about preemie babies and all that but what i do know is that i was in the hospital at 34wk 6days due to a car accident having horrible contractions and my dr was actually on call that night and she told me that if i went into labor she wouldnt stop me because at that point the babies are pretty well prepared for life outside and would most likely only have to spend like the first few hours in nicu.. i guess it depends on how big your baby is as of now.. dont stress too much and im not sure what you should do if in case you go into labor but i thought id just let you know what i was told about that same time in preg as you to maybe help in the decision for you in case something starts :) good luck!!

hoosiermommy - Sunday, 9 Mar
Jennifer - I understand how you feel! I WISH my OB would release me from bed rest, but she wants me to get to 36 weeks before she lets me deliver. I am still hoping, however, that if I start to go into labor before then, she'll let it proceed. I've had the corticosteroid shots, so the baby's lungs should be in pretty good shape by now, and I too am scared at the thought of having to be pumped full of magnesium sulfate or some other horrible drug. I'm going in tomorrow for another fetal fibronectin test and to see how my cervix is holding up (as of last week, I was about 50 percent effaced with a little interior funneling, but no dilation.)

secondandexcited - Sunday, 9 Mar
I have never experienced this as this is my first pregnancy, and no signs of dialation thus far for me! But my sister lost her mucus plug a couple weeks before she was due, and she was walking around 3 cm dialated for like a week. BUT she wasn't on bed rest or anything. I would think that your baby would be just fine if they were born today. Yes, it is better to ahve a baby at 40 weeks, but everything on your baby is fully developed, from what this site and books I have read say. If it happens, it happens. I wouldn't stress out about it. But If possible, I would try to hold off having the baby until 36-37 weeks like aderyn3 said. Good luck and hang in there :o)

kgarner - Sunday, 9 Mar
your baby will be fine! :) if it was born today!...it would not be a premature baby ...just a pre term baby...meaning it might be on the light side..

jacquichan - Sunday, 9 Mar
I would keep that little one in as long as possible. He will do better physically and emotionally. They are not mentally prepared for this word until about four months anyway. Your doc knows what is best for you and the little one. Good luck

Hi =) I read your post on being afraid of going into labor because you lost your plug this morning. You can lose your plug weeks before you actually go into labor so I would just sit tight and take it easy and don’t be stressed about it! With my first I lost my plug 5 weeks before going into labor and with this one I lost it 3 weeks ago (due 1 day before you) and was put on bed rest because I was dilating and thinning but was only put on bed rest until I hit 34 weeks which was this past Monday. My doctor said anytime after 34 weeks if I went into labor he wouldn’t stop it, which is what I have heard from most doctors. Its obviously better the longer you can go but he told me at 34 weeks the likelihood of baby going into NICU is slim, may spend an extra day or 2 in the hospital if needed but everything would be fine. Did your Dr. specify why 36 weeks? I have been very very active trying to get things done around the house (we just moved) before this baby comes and as of this past Monday I was dilated to a 2 and 25% effaced and again I lost my plug awhile ago and I am doing just fine. If anything don’t stress about it because it will only make things worse! Good luck!

Hi there! You can be 2 cm dilated and lose your plug weeks before the baby is born. Honestly, it is best to stay pregnant until at least 36-37 weeks. My cousin had twins at 35 weeks, and the little girl was pretty small and had a few problems. The hospital sent her home after a few days, only to have to go back in a day later. The little boy was fine. It's really kind of a toss up how they'll do at that stage. I have seen babies that need to be in the NICU for a few weeks born at 34/35 weeks, though (I do medical transcription.) My best advice is take it as easy as possible! I don't like taking medicines, either (pregnant or not.) But, if it was the difference of my baby being healthy or needing to go to the hospital (we do homebirth), I'd take it for my baby. Good luck!

hismunchkin05 - Sunday, 9 Mar
Hi! I feel great today. I'm losing mucous again! WOOHOO!
I haven't dialated. 3.4 was my cervical length on the 26th. I just had an internal check on Friday and my cervix was still closed and hard. I go to the Dr Tuesday though, maybe things'll be different then.
I know my mom was dialated to 3cm for a month with my brother and then she went back down to 2cm same thing happened to my aunt with her daughter.

hismunchkin05 - Sunday, 9 Mar
I had my cervix examined again(internal)on Friday. The Dr said that my cervix hasn't changed since so.... it looks like my little girl might stay where she belongs for now.
