Well...now that I am 7 months preggers I suppose I should add something here! My name is Jennifer, I am 26 years old, and am pregnant with my first child. This has been such an easy pregnancy thus far. No morning sickness, and I have only gained 10 pounds! My goal is to gain no more than 5 more. I am going to have to really watch what I eat since all I really want to eat is sugar. I found out about 2 months ago that I am having a little girl and will name her Hanna Jo. I can't wait. Although I am scared to death as I will be a single parent with absolutely NO help from the "father" and I use that term loosely! But I have no doubts that my little blessing and I will be just fine! :)

That sucks! They said they should get the results tomorrow and if I don't hear anything then it means everything was fine. I am not holding my breath...I am like you as long as I have something sweet I could care less if I eat anything else.

Read your blog on father to be.... i know exactly what you mean about the whole scared to be a single parent thing.. im the same way... u should read my blogs on my page... my childs father jus up and left one day out the blu...im doin better tho..still get scared sometimes , i jus pray about it... anyway... if u find out let me know cause my childs father is an asshole too.

If you're in the US, do a search with your states laws (you should be able to search from the state website). Every state is different. On a cautious note, if you terminate his rights then he may have no responsibility for paying any child support and your child may loose any inheritance rights (he may not have anything now but things can change in the future). The way you feel today and how you may feel in a couple of years could change on that subject. Don't make too quick of a decision now... I'd seriously suggest that you wait several years.

My sister-in-law had a boy 15 years ago. The dad never signed away his rights but he has NEVER offered to get in contact with her or his son. That was 15 years ago...for my nephews sake I hope he stays away. Good luck with your pregnancy and I hope one day you will find the man of your dreams.

I just went to google and typed in terminating parental rights and this is a link that I came up with. It is a Pennsylvania site so not sure if it's federal or not but it has a definition of the responsibilities of the parent and then says if they haven't done that for 6 mths you can petition to terminate rights. But just do a search or find one of those free legal advice websites and that should help too...hope this helps a little...

I just talked to my mom...she works in the court systems. Unless he voluntarily signs away his rights or you go to court and prove he is unfit and the court agrees you cannot have his rights signed away after a particular time period. Does he know he is the father?

The laws are different in each state so I'd check the laws or call an attorney's office to get some info. In Washington if you're unmarried and don't file for custody, you have equal rights until one files. If I were you I'd file for custody and if he really is going to abandon the child then he wouldn't respond to your request for custody.
