On monday I am seeing a specialist for a Fetal scan . At 12 weeks my blood test results came back with a count thats a little low. My ob/gyn recommended I see a specialist who will scan to see if there is a need for an amnio. Today I received the results for my 16 weeks test that showed a negative result for neural tube defects. Yippy , I feel a bit better about going on monday. I will go for a scan but I seriously doubt I'll do an amnio. But I am going to make sure everything is alright and hopefully to finally see what the sex is. I'll update on teusday about how it went.

All went well yesterday. The Specialist did a really long scan , over an hour , where she started at the bottom and checked everything. Every bone , organ and even the blood vessles. She could not find any of the soft markers that could indicate defects. So in that light I decided not to do the amnio. My 16 week blood tests also came back negative for nural tube defect. So we decided to leave it at that and start enjoying the pregnancy. It was the most amazing scan I have ever seen. I saw little toes , fingers and could even see inside the heart ! She showed us the little face and we could see little lips and a little nose. It was truely the most amazing thing I have ever seen. The Specialist ( as well as my ob/gyn) is about 80% sure its a girl. Cant see any dangly bits anywhere. My chances of having a down syndrome baby have gone from 1:24 to 1:48 which are odds I am happy to accept. From what we could see on the scan she perfectly fine. I believe she is fine and will turn out to be a normal little girl when she comes. We will love her as she is. I will scan the picture a little later and upload it.

Yesterday I went for my 20 week scan and everything looks great. My ob/gyn now believes 100% that its a girl and from what I saw on the scan , I think so too. I took my son with and he had a million questions to ask. The poor man had to answer his questions while looking and measuring the baby but he handled it very well. I then spend the whole way home answering more questions about how babies are born ( luckily not how they are made) and had to go into details about the whole birth process. I decided to tell the truth ( not a graphic truth) but as close as to the truth as I can get without the bad bits. Its better that way it also stops other children from telling him stories. Now he'll be able to understand a bit better. He was so much more relaxed after we got home and even a bit excited about having a sister. I think he asked questions that bothered him a lot , he wanted to know if I was going to die and all that. Its obviously things that really bothered him and as openly as possible I reassured him. Anyway now to a name. I really have a long list of girl names I love so its going to be a hard one.

Cant wait till end of next week ! The 26th is my last day at work. I am really feeling it now. I need to see the neurologist on the 7th , to look at my hands as my obgyn thinks I have carpol tunnel syndrome in both. He needs to check that there wont be permanent nerve damage! My left hand is bad at the moment the right hand not too bad. Little girl is growing fine and last week was about 2 kilograms ( about 4.4 pounds) so she's growing very nicely. Not long to go.
