My birth story!

By 40 weeks I was totally fed up of being pregnant and because my obgyn thought I was having a big baby (he was estimating 9.5lb), I went in for an induction at 40 weeks, 4 days. I had heard horror stories about inductions so was worried but ready for my baby girl to be outta my tummy and into my arms!

I checked into the hospital at 7am on Nov.28th at which time my doctor broke my water. An hour later I was not feeling any contractions and didn't leak much fluid so he broke a bigger hole in my bag of waters. Getting your water broken, for me atleast, was very unpleasant and caused a lot of cramping but it passed fairly quickly. Still, this did not bring on any contractions so we started a pitocin drip and the dose was increased every 15 minutes till I was having strong and regular contractions. I was 2cm dialated for the weeks leading up to my induction and unfortunately after 11 hours of labour (they would not give me an epidural since I was not dialating any further), I had to go for an unplanned c-section because the baby just was not moving down into the birth canal and started showing signs of distress with my contractions. We assumed this was because she was a good size baby.

Anyway, once it was decided I needed a c-section, things moved along really quickly. I'd say the most uncomfortable part of the induction was getting my catheter put in!!! It was an awful feeling. Also the recovery from the surgery is not pleasant when you have a newborn to look after but as far as the procedure itself, it was ok. I felt no pain during it and the only side effects I had were shaking uncontrollably from the spinal block and nausea and vomitting from the morphine for the pain. But all these things aside, I would do it again in a heartbeat. My baby girl is beautiful and perfect in every way (except for not wanting to sleep through the night, LOL). My daughter was not even a big baby, she only weighed 7lb/3oz so it just goes to show that the doctors don't always know everything:)

So it continues even at 8 months? I thought 4.5 was bad... I certainly feel your pain and have tried everything I can think of. Strange, he just recently started this screaching cry during the day...

PUPPPS is this really horrible rash that you get all over your body that itches and itches and itches and makes you want to claw your skin out. And since you are pregnant you can hardly take anything for it which makes it worse!

Hey you are not alone with the sleep thing! I have insomnia cos my body expects to be woken every couple of hours thru the night. My son takes forever to settle at night and wakes at least 3 times. I know what you mean about feeling like a mad woman. Sorry can't offer any advice - if something works for you let me know :)

Hi, I have an 8 month old son, and around month 4 he sounded very similar to your baby. What we finally came to the conclusion of is that he gets overtired throughout the course of the day and is just a wreck by evening even though he didn't necessarily act tired until it was too late. Do we did one thing that changed everything--we called it the 9:00 non-negotiable nap LOL. Every morning at 9, we put him down for a nap whether he wanted it or not. THat seemed like the most likely time that he would actually sleep--we realized that if we waited any longer he wouldn't sleep at all. Pretty soon the rest of the day fell into place--he took a better afternoon nap and a better evening because he wasn't overtired. He had reflux and we still put him down for naps in his carseat--he sleeps MUCH better in this position than in his crib. We were eventually able to replace waking in the middle of the night with a pacifier and a music toy (I always sent my husband in to do this so he didn't think food). Maybe one of those things will work for you?

HI Julia, I read your comment about your daughter not sleeping well, I don't know that I really have any advice, but my son is a bit like that also, so I can at least relate! He is almost 7 months and always fights sleeping and still wakes up usually a few times during the night. I agree with not letting them try to cry to sleep, I usually spend a lot of time walking and rocking him at night. I wish I had a great trick to share with ya, I know how hard it is! If it helps at all, I'm at least here if you want to talk. Have you tried letting her sleep in her swing? If I put him in there after he's asleep he seems to sleep a bit longer.

Hey I read your comment about your daughters weight a couple months ago. Your daughter was weighing about the same as mine right now. 15 lbs at 7 months so I wondering what has happened with your weight issue?

My son isn't as light as your daughter is. He is 18 1/2lbs at 7 months. But, he too is a fussy eater. He's breastfed most of the time and has two bottles at daycare. He is starting to have two meals a day of solids but that is usually only an ounce or two at a time. I see most babies his age having a lot more then that. It's crazy. I know he doesn't take in the normal 30+ounces a day. But, he's healthy and that is what matters. There is a girl at daycare that just turned a year old and is still whereing 9month clothes. Kekoa is bigger then she is. She is totally happy and healthy, just very skinny. Every baby is different and if she is happy and healthy I wouldn't worry about the pounds.

Hey, I just read your comment on your baby waking up thru the night. I've been trying to find something out too. He's 4 1/2 months old and wakes up 2-3 times per night. It seems like my husband and I haven't caught up on sleep since he's been born. My sister-in-law said that I should just let him cry himself back to sleep. But, as a working mother I don't want to do that! Partly because I don't see my baby all day and when I get home I'm just so excited to give him so much love that I don't want him to have to cry because he's hungry. My doctor said that he is quite a bit bigger than average on his weight and lengh. He said he's at 95% and average is at 50%. Therefore he requires more food. So, If he's hungry we feed him. I'm not sure if I shouldn't do this or not or if he's going to just start sleeping all night on his own. He had about 4 times that he slept thru the night. We try to do everything the same, but it doesn't help. It's almost like when he wakes up in the middle of the night to eat he's sleeping while he's eating. So, I truly think he's hungry. Did anyone give you any good advice?
