About Me
My name is Melissa. I have 2 wonderful boys. One who is 7 years old and another who was just born August 4th. With the newborn, I was due September 6th and had him a month early. He encountered some problems in the first days of life but he quickly overcame them. I am happily married to a man in the Marine Corps. Each day brings something new.
My Birth Story
I woke up at 2:30 am on Monday August 4th because I felt something "pop". At first I thought it was my water but quickly found out that it wasn't. It was blood! I was bleeding very badly. I then woke my husband up and told him we had to get to the hospital quickly. I was having contractions but didn't think anything of them. We got to the hospital about 3:11 and I was put in a triage room to assess the situation. The nurse didn't check me until the midwife got there which was almost 4 o'clock. I was 7 cm dilated!! I started crying because I wasn't due for another month. So my husband called our parents and told them that I was in labor and going to have the baby today. I was wheeled down to a room and given an IV since my GBS wasn't known. Probably after 30-45 minutes in the labor & delivery room I felt enormous pressure. I was checked but was only 8 cm. So the nurse said I had to wait to start pushing. No more than she took her gloves off and threw them away I felt it even worse. She asked if it was worse than before and I said "yes". Well she checked me then and was fully dilated. So I had to wait on pushing for a little while longer so the midwife and the Pediatricians could get their stuff set up. I then started pushing and my water finally broke and squirted everywhere like a big waterfall. My son was born at 5:22 am weighing 6 lbs. 7.6 ozs and 19 inches long. I held him on my chest for maybe 5 minutes before they took him to the warmer. Well they were doing their thing and I watched. They told me they were taking him the nursery and he'd be back out to me in an hour. Okay, well an hour passed and nothing yet. So I wanted to know where my baby was. Come to find out, he was breathing really fast so he had to stay in the Level 2 Nursery. They also gave him an IV while he was in there because my GBS wasn't known and I only got one round of antibiotics. He was in that nursery until his 3rd day of life and we got to come home on the 4th day.
