Hollygirl - Monday, 14 July
My son is exactly the same. I am not sure why some babies do this and others don't. My niece always did. She used to throw up on me so much she's soak my clothes in one chuck up. I would have to change! My son throws up a lot too and the outfit thing and handing him to people thing are both frustrating but I have found since he has started having cereal (mixed with pureed fruit and not water) for brekky he's been only spitting up later in the day. He drools though because he's teething. He's fifteen weeks old now.

JenO - Monday, 14 July
I hear ya on the spitting up!!! Owen was about the same as your little one! We must have went through 20-30 bibs a day! It has gotten much better since he is eating more solids now. Just know that it does get better but I know how you feel...I still warn people but they usually say...Oh well that is what babies do! Most people don't mind!

What is gripe water and can you give it to a newborn? Yes we have swaddled her. We aregetting a swing today.

bellybumbles - Saturday, 12 July
Thanks so much for the formula! We got it a few days ago in the mail and Reese is going to town on it, it was perfect timing bc all of the sudden my milk supply dropped, so she's been getting more than normal. Thanks :-)

nmck - Saturday, 12 July
We are pretty close! I am in the Harrisburg area. I take grad classes at West Chester so I drive through Lancaster once a week on my way to class. (I know I am an idiot to drive that far for class, but gas prices weren't nearly as high when I started!)

pawsitvemama - Friday, 11 July
Ha- ha. Thanks that makes me feel much better. i new my body is 100% normal yet. Yes I am just not in the mood and to tell you the truth. I work 40-50 hours a week and so does he so on my 2 days off, that's the last thing I want to do, plus sorry if this is TMI, but it hurts and is just not enjoyable for me yet! Hopefully I will get my hormones back in whack soon- my poor man

pawsitvemama - Friday, 11 July
Well once you bring her in let me know what they say! I think my doctor is over reacting just a little. I honetsly don't think the flat spot is that bad or even noticable! But I will do it-doctors orders I LOVE the red hair, it's going to be so pretty like a golden blonde/amber. Awww she's too cute! That's so funny- no one in your family has reddish hair? Any irish blood?

pawsitvemama - Thursday, 10 July
Is she cute! I love her hair! is it reddish in color? What a peanut!

pawsitvemama - Thursday, 10 July
Maddux I know how yu feel. The back of her head is a bit flattened, not bad like the picture on here, but you can tell there is a flat spot. From the front and the top you ccan not see it, you actuially ahve to look at the back of her head. I feel horrible, but I don' think there is much we can do. I try and never put addy on her back during the day...except for naps

youngmommy9 - Thursday, 10 July
I think i might start just pumping soon..she isnt getting enough from breast feeding because i feel im rushing her to end the pain..shes going to be 2 weeks old on saturday, how many ounces do you recommend I give her out of a bottle? i tried to google it but it gave me different answers and when i called the lactational consultants they recommended that I keep feeding, so no answers from them!

youngmommy9 - Wednesday, 9 July
hi..wow your post made me feel so much better!..im thinking about pumping and just feeding her that way..my nipples are way too sore and I dont know how much longer I can do it for..did your milk still come as it did when you were breastfeeding? im worried that it wont come and I will have to use formula

tatianamommy - Wednesday, 9 July
What a cute little baby!!! Her face is so kissable!!

tatianamommy - Wednesday, 9 July
When did you know that Julia was ready to move to a 3 hour schedule? Caleb is going down for his naps just fine but I've had to wake him 3 times today to nurse (we are on 2.5 hr cycle). Normally he will wake himself. Now, he seems to just want to sleep! Should i wake him to keep on schedule or let him sleep and readjust to a 3 hour schedule?

Okay, I also have another silly question. It use to take Caleb about 15-20 minutes to nurse but this past week or so, it seems to take him 10 minutes or less then he just will not latch on. He looks at me and smiles but will not take the nipple. He's growing so I know he is eating. Is it possible for him to eat so fast?

mizzsnazzy - Tuesday, 8 July
Hi, well this formula is really for gassy and fussy babies that also spit up. It is with added rice starch for the spitting up, since it is a thicker formula and the rice helps keep the food down. And it is also lactose free, and a lot of babies can't tolerate lactose at this stage which also makes it uncomfortable for them. But my reason for giving Nathan this formula is because I believe he has really mild silent reflux where he doesn't spit up, but the food still comes up and just stays there making him unable to eat the rest of his bottles. So I wanted to see if the rice starch in this formula was helping Nathan keep the food down better and make it go down better as well as digestion. And it has been working it seems, he takes this formula better than the Similac Advanced he was on. Otherwise he wasn't gassy or fussy, he was just uncomfortable with keeping his food down. If you're little girl is spitting up and being gassy I would DEFINATLEY suggest giving this formula a try, it might really help a lot. Similac says that this formula Reduces spit up by 54%.

crabscanfly - Monday, 7 July
yes, faith's is at size one and she can touch the floor.. weird hmm.

HDugan26 - Monday, 7 July
Yes...it's definitely throwing up! Basically the condition affects the pyloric muscle which connects the small intestines to the stomach. The muscle grows too think too fast and prevents the food from passing through the stomach. His vomiting started gradually, at maybe 3-4 times a week and then kept becoming more frequent as the muscle was getting thicker. Eventually, nothing would pass through...so we would feed him and it would come right back up. We caught it early b/c I knew something wasn't right! It is typically symptomatic with very loose and infrequent bowels and lethargy. It is definitely more common in male babies from what I have been told. And the throwing up...basically look for the tummy to pulsate more than 3 times, eyes get big and then the milk comes back through the nose and mouth and can be projectile...launching at least an inch away from the baby. Also, if you notice the milk is mixed with bile or thicker than just the milk, that's a bad sign. (If it's not mixed with any bole and is more grainy, that's def., just spit up!) If none of these are happening it's probably just reflux or could be intolerant to the formula. But take it from a mom who was in the Children's Hospital of Atlanta all last weekend, definitely call and follow up with your dr. I hope everything will be fine honey, but I know it's scary!

momof6 - Monday, 7 July
Your baby is adorable!!!! We started out with Similac RS and switched to Dr. Brown's bottles. There was improvement when we did that but the RS does not come in a powdered form so I switched to the Similac Sensative and she did really good - we also switched to the Playtex Drop ins and she is really doing good. The other lady that posted had some great suggestions also - prepare powdered ahead of time and let it settle so there are not as many bubbles and/or use the ready to feed. Don't you feel like you wish you had an owner's manual with each one? This is actually my 7th baby and you would think I would know just about anything but each one is so different I can't figure this one out!!!! Good luck - let me know if anything helps!!!

crabscanfly - Monday, 7 July
yes she can reach the floor when shes in the jumperoo.. i have mine down to the lowest it will go.

collsbaby - Sunday, 6 July
Oh and also, cold packs on the chi-chi's will help to decrease milk too...warm packs will increase it.

collsbaby - Sunday, 6 July
Peppermint will decrease milk...so eat up those altoids! And don't eat any oatmeal for a while...that increases milk.

Hollygirl - Saturday, 5 July
Thanks for the help. I spoke to my aunt and she seems to think it's relatively normal for it to take a few months to dry up completely. Something I didn't know. i thought it was like a few days. shows how much I know lol. I heard cabbage leaves help with the pain of being full with milk. Reduces swelling really well. Hope you and your little angel are doing well. :-)

momoffive - Friday, 4 July
What an amazing job. My best friends sister teaches special needs children and although they wipe her out she loves her job! It's great that you've had the summer to be home with your little girl. A school schedule isn't so bad, you'll be home early in the day.
I start mine on solids between 4 and 5 months. My first was way ready for food at 4 months, second was almost 6 before she actaully ate it but I offered it once a day by 5 months and my third I didn't offer untill 5 months because it was easier to just nurse him and he was still going 3 hours between feedings. I bought some rice cereal for Sam and will probably offer in a couple of weeks. He will just be 4 months but has started waking up more to eat at night just in the past few days so I think his little appitite is starting to pick up and he's getting close to being ready.

momoffive - Friday, 4 July
oh, I just read your message from hollygirl....Your milk can take up to 2 YEARS to dry up. Do not be suprised if you can express some always. You could quit and in 6 months decide you want to start again and very possibly rebuild a milk supply with a pump. It of course is not a guarentee but many women still have it. I was still makeing milk (of course probably not enough to sustain a baby) a year before I got pregnant with Sam. Anyway, the reason I was messaging you was I was curious why your quiteing. purly just curiosity not judging at all. I am struggeling with whether or not to wean Sam. It would make life so much easier to just let my husband or daughter give him bottles when I'm in the middle of things, but at the same time I love have the "excuse" to sit down and cuddle him without feeling like I need to be doing something else. But then, I would love the freedom to go away without calculating how long I can be gone or paying the price of painfully engourged breasts for giving him a bottle and not nursing....It's such a big decision, and I'll never be able to do it again. I was so sad when I weaned my last. I don't want to regret it and not be able to start back up. I guess I'll keep going a bit longer and stick with the when he's on solids plan and decide from there.

Hollygirl - Friday, 4 July
Hey girl. I only breastfed for two weeks and my son is thirteen and a half weeks old and I still have milk there. I only check like once a week to see if its still there. It doesn't leak but any rubbing of the nipples will bring it out. So annoying. I think it makes you not ovulate and I would like to try for number two. If you get any good tips for drying it up. Please let me know. :-) Good luck!

Jo-Mama - Thursday, 3 July
It sounds weird, but put cold cabbage leaves in your bra. I have friends who swear by this! Also, bind yourself up. I wore tight tank tops under my shirts and that helped.
