I rock him for a few minutes until he looks really tired, then I put him down. It didn't just happen like that. I used to rock him all the way to sleep, but since about a month ago, I've been letting him go to sleep on his own. I'm really lucky, though, he's a really good baby and occupies himself well and doesnt cry all that much. So, I don't know how well my stuff would work for someone else.

He actually naps more, I think. Here's about what his schedule is. The times aren't exact because they vary from the time he wakes up, but this is the average:

7:30 a.m. -> wakes up for day
Bottle + ½ baby food fruit

9:00 a.m. -> nap (naptime is 1 ½ hours after Kaeden wakes up for the day)

11:00 a.m. -> wakes up from nap
Bottle + baby food --½ container of a green vegetable, mixed in with ½ container orange veggie

12:30 p.m. -> nap (naptime is 1 ½ hours after Kaeden wakes from his 1st nap)

2:30 p.m. -> wakes up from nap
Bottle

4:00 p.m. -> nap (naptime is 1 ½ hours after Kaeden wakes from his 2nd nap)

5:00 p.m. -> wakes up from nap –wake him up by 5:30 p.m. for dinner.

6:00 p.m. -> Dinner
Bottle + 2 scoops of rice cereal + ½ container fruit mixed in

Bath, then
6:30 p.m. -> Bedtime (bedtime is 1 ½ hours after Kaeden wakes from his last nap)

9:00-11:00 p.m. -> wakes up for one last nighttime bottle then sleep until morning.

I've been following the 90 minute sleep program since 2 months, which says babies are naturally tired after 90 minutes of being awake. It really works for us. It says around this time, he may start being awake for 2 90 minute cycles at a time, which would be 3 hours, so things may change soon, but so far, this is what works for me.

Just wondering, does your baby take an evening nap? I read in one of the many books that I read (I"m such a nerd!) that a lot of times parents put a baby down for an evening nap, then, they wake up at 8 or 9 or whatever, they play with them til 10 or 11 and then put them back to sleep. It says, in reality, the evening nap should really be the bedtime and you should try just feeding them in the dark and putting them right back to bed. Kaeden goes to bed every night around 6:30. He'll wake up at 9:30 or 10 for his last bottle then he goes right back to sleep until 7 or 7:30 the next morning. I don't know what your situation is, but it's something to try.

Start by waking him up earlier.

I like my big boy! Chubby babies are so cute! My family has mostly boys. I have 11 boy cousins and they were all big like that when they were born. My grandmom was so happy that Kaeden was too. Big babies run in my family, I guess, but they're all normal sized, athletic guys now.

k-kaye - Saturday, 2 August
Finally someone else with a baby as big as mine! Kaeden is 20 pounds and 28.5 inches. After reading everyone else's babies sizes, I was starting to think he was a sumo wrestler!

Thats Impressive...You have a big, healthy boy :) I went to the doctor 2 weeks ago and mine was 16lbs!

mummof2 - Friday, 1 August
Hi there, I from the 3 month page but I like to read ahead. My daughter has been sleeping her tummy since she was 6 weeks. I found that she startled herself when she slept on her back and was up often in the night. She falls alseep instantly on her tummy. She just started to roll so in the morning she is on her back. I also have the airflow crib bumper in there just incase her face gets smushed up to the side of the crib.

Hey, just FYI there is a risk for SIDS up to the age on 1. I don't mean to scare you, I just wanted to let you know. One of my best friend's son's passed away at 7 weeks so I have done a lot of reading. It's very uncommon but can happen.

Aarons Mommy - Friday, 1 August
My son has been a tummy sleeper since 2 weeks old. He had reflux and was more comfortable on his tummy. My son was rolling over but stopped. He has been doing fine on his tummy and I know alot of other mommys that was also letting their little ones sleep on there tummies also. My doctor said that back is best but he knows what he likes. If I put him on his back he wakes up right away. I think as long as the can lift there head well and turn it from side to side they should be okay.

mommyinthesky - Tuesday, 29 July
Does he like his swing? Jacob takes very good naps in his swing, though that will have to come to an end someday, but for now it's great.

TraciW - Monday, 28 July
Thanks for the tips on feeding the cereal. Over the weekend we tried to feed him while holding him in our lap instead of sitting in the high chair and it worked a lot better. I'm hoping after another week or so it will keep getting better.

kbpc3949 - Friday, 25 July
Thanks for the reply...I think I might give it a try this weekend. Give him a change of scenery....

hawaiimommy - Monday, 21 July
i guess i'm just lucky i got mine so early. HA HA anyway, thanks for the comment!

MaryJanowiecki - Saturday, 28 June
I was going to ask about teething too. My son had a tooth starting already at 10 weeks and he was that way.. now he is 15 weeks and it is still working its way up but he almost never has his hand or pacifier out of his mouth. l0l.

Jo-Mama - Friday, 27 June
My baby is almost 3 months and she is having a fussy fussy day. I have heard that they go through some growth spurt at 3 months, so maybe that explains the weird behaviour.

k-kaye - Friday, 27 June
Could he be teething? I know it sounds early, but Kaeden already has a tooth coming through and he's been fussy lately.

2wiceblessed - Friday, 20 June
Ask your Ped. but I believe there is medicine for infants with gas.

simplyme - Thursday, 19 June
hey there...I read to isabella every night after her bath while she is drinking her bottle. and she loves her stories...its become a weekly event to go to the library and choose books for the week and yesterday she even got her own library card. just get books that have big bright pictures. your little one will love it soon enough.
