Happy Mothers Day

Enducing at 38 weeks is normal. I was on bedrest with my 2nd baby and now I am on bedrest with this current pregnancy for another 4 weeks due to preterm labor. When you are on bedrest babies tend to be on the big side. With my daughter, she was 9 pounds 4 ounces. She was my tank! Just a bit of advice....when you start having to breathe through the contractions that is when you get your epidural! I tried to tough it out, but the contractions are quite a bit stronger when you are induced. I have had labor with and without inducing. Overall I would be enduced again. It is pretty quick. Especially if it is for your 1st. ;) Good luck!

I completely agree with mama40. If baby wasn't doing any more developing, then why does gestation last 40 weeks...and what about you? You're body isn't ready either, and its been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that inducing labour increases the risk of a whole host of problems...cord prolapse, fetal distress, c-section, vacuum delivery...the list goes on! These days everyone is so concerned with the increase in disorders like ADD, ADHD, and Autism...and no one really knows why there is an increase or what is causing these problems. So I say eliminate unnecessary interventions at birth...all those synthetic hormones and anesthetics couldn't possibly be good for your baby...especially if they're not ready to come out, but you force them to anyway. Be glad that the technology is there if you or your baby really need help, but if you're both doing well, then 'don't fix it if it ain't broke'!

Mel- if there is no indication that your baby is getting too big, or that your placenta is getting too aged or anything else that calls for early induction, you should fight for your baby's right to fully develop. It may seem that baby doing nothing there in his finals weeks just sitting and getting bigger, but there are important things still going on. Final touch on brain development for example. Many things that we don't know yet about. My doctor never suggested such a thing as early induction and will wait until my labor starts or my due date whatever comes first.

Thank you for commenting on my nursery. We still have some finishing touches to add, but mostly it is complete. It was so different decorating for a girl, after having 2 boys.
