Wednesday, 9 July Hello, I just wanted to let you know that your son is a good size. My daughter was born on Feb.11 and she is about 26-27 inches long and only weighs 15.5 lbs. manda21 -
Wednesday, 9 July I wouldnt worry too much about the weight gain thing. my son was always in the 90th for weight and height until he turned three months. I dont know what he is now...heis just a little over 3 months old, but at his 5 month check he was right at 15lbs and 25 inches long. Babies fall in and out of percentiles all the time...some grow faster, than the others catch up...just like we did as children. DO what you think is right...you are the mommy, and even though our parents did things differently, that doesnt make their way the correct way. He looks great, and he was born smaller (i think i read on your pgae), so dont stress about it....your doctor would tell you if they were concnered. skylars mommy -

Tuesday, 8 July Hi, I just read your post about the formula you have Nathan on. Why is your little guy on that formula? I am thinking about changing Julia's formula as she is gassy and spits up a lot and was just curious what your reasons were for trying that formula...especially since it helped your little guy. Thanks! DANNIE -
Monday, 7 July Wow, that was long-winded! LOL! I also don't agree with the crying it out method, but I do think it is necessary and important to give your baby the chance to at least attempt self-soothing him/herself to sleep. Like I said, I don't think Ryland is quite ready to soothe himself to sleep just yet, but I will still give him short attempts at it. If he starts to cry then I know he is not ready for it. When I put him down, he will spend about 10 minutes looking around and sucking his hand, but after that, he wants me and will cry. I will then go get him and rock him to sleep myself. I figure that taking it slow and having him get use to being alone in his bed may help the process.
As for interacting with Ryland, I split his time playing with me and his time playing by himself while I do chores, jump on line, pay bills, etc. I think spending time together and apart are equally important. I feel we need to intereact and stimulate our babies, but it is just as important that they learn to play alone and by themselves. If we never allow them that opportunity, they will constantly be demanding our attention, and lets face it, wt is impossible to give them all of our attention 100% of the time. I know that I don't want to have a child who can't sit alone and interact by himself. I also feel that constantly having someone entertaining a child robs them of their creativity. They need to be able to think and do things by themselves. Ryland is able to entertain himself anywhere from 15-45 minutes stretches. When he starts to get fussy, or shows signs of being lonely, I go to him. I play games, read, sing, take a walk, play with his toys, tickle him, etc. I feel confident that Ryland is getting more than enough attention and if he weren't, he would let me know. I am sure you are doing just as great of a job with Nathan! DANNIE -
Monday, 7 July I just read the pamphlet my ped. gave me and it tells me that I can introduce fruits and veggies- what the Heck, my Dr was contradicting what his practice's paperwork says! Either way I go about it, as long as I introduce foods slowly, should be just fine. Also, you said that you got Nathan to fall asleep on his own by letting him cry it out a bit. How long did you let him cry and if he cried for a long period of time, did you go in and rescue him and then try again later? I am just curious to find out how other mommies are getting their babies to soothe themselves to sleep. NJackson -
Monday, 7 July Thanks for the vote! If you rememeber you have to vote every round. So if he makes it to the top 100, we will need a vote again!! danamommy08 -
Monday, 7 July Thank you so much for the beautiful comment! Dannie -
Monday, 7 July I think I confused you---with the solids, this month I am doing only cereals, but next month my ped said to start expeimenting with veggies(waiting 3 days between each veg) and continue with the different types of cereals. The following month I can experiment with fruit as well as use veggies and cereal since I will know how Ryland responds to them. So this month is really the only boring month; oatmeal, rice cereal and barley cereal, ugh! Ryland was sleeping really well, but the past 2 nights (we are away) he has been getting up every 2-3 hours. I am really hoping it is because we are not home and his routine is a bit out of wack. I don't think I can relive the having to get up every couple of hours in the night again! You are very lucky that you can just put Nathan down and he soothes himself to sleep. I can't do that with Ryland. I have tried and he will be okay for a few minutes but then he gets so mad and starts screaming and crying. once he gets to that point, I have to go in and get him. I don't think he is ready to fall asleep on his own. I really hope that soon he will be able to settle and fall asleep on his own. DANNIE -
Monday, 7 July Ryland usually has a bottle every 2-3 hrs. I really haven't been feeding him much as far as solids go. I have only introduced rice cereal and am now just starting to give it to him twice a day, but only 2 TBS. My ped. said to only introduce one food group per month, so this month we are doing cereals. I started with rice cereal, this week will try oatmeal and then the following week barley. After we are done introducing the cereal I will introduce veggies for a month and then move onto fruit. I know a lot of you are already introducing fruit and veggies as long as you wait a few days between testing them out. That is what I would like to do, but am torn between doing what I want and what the ped. recommended. When you say Nathan has cereal and 2 oz formula, is the formula mixed in the cereal or given in a bottle? It seems as if you have a great schedule going for your little guy! I want to get Ryland on some sort of an eating schedule. How many ounces of formula does Nathan now eat in a day? Do you have Nathan on a good nap schedule too? What time do you put him to bed? Sorry for all the questions, but you just seem so happy with how Nathan is responding to the change

Monday, 7 July 4 oz is usually all Ryland will drink at a time- Sometimes I am lucky and am able to get him to drink 5 or 6. I really wish he would drink more on a regular basis so that I can go longer between feedings. Dannie -
Sunday, 6 July Quick question about night feedings- Did your Dr say to feed the same amount of ounces in water as you would in formula at night? If Ryland wakes at night, I give him 4 ounces of formula, should I switch it to 4 ounces of water to help discourage night feedings? Thanks` MommyForThe1stTime -
Sunday, 6 July Thanks, i will try his blanket. He does take a nap with a blanket, but i have always been affraid to put one in his crib with him. skylars mommy -
