Some of my favorites...

My Favorite Baby Book:The Baby Book by Dr. Sears and his wife. I bought this book after I had my first son four years ago. It has everything I needed in it! From sleeping, breastfeeding to developmental milestones. Also how to calm the fussy baby! Takes you from birth to two years! Can be purchased on their website: www.askdrsears.com or at other local stores that carry their books.

My favorite Sling is the Dr. Sears sling, made by KoJo. This is perfect for that fussy baby! My son likes this a lot better than another sling I have and it is more user friendly too. I also use it when we go shopping, just put him in it and he normally stairs at me a while then drifts off to sleep and does not make a peep. This can also be purchased on their website.

Tuesday, 25 Mar

Jared is getting so big, he is now 11 weeks and 3 days old! Smiling a lot, holding his head up better and longer. Doing great staying with daddy in the evenings while I work. He eats then goes to sleep..does that a couple times then I am home at 0330 in the mornings. I `m only working max of 3 nights a week; 8 hours each time. We will see how it goes this week with 3 nights, last week it was just 2.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

February~14th 2008: Jared will be 6 weeks old this Saturday!

~Update and birth story~

It is so hard to believe that Jared has been here that long already! He is so sweet and getting more awake and alert everyday! He was born when I was 38 weeks and 2 days. Contractions woke me at 0130 that morning, I waited for a couple hours to see if they were going to go away but they never did. I woke Eric up around 0400 and told him and we started getting ready, just taking our time since we did not want to wake Caden up that early. I was hoping it was real contractions and not just strong braxton hicks; I just did not want to be sent home from OB triage. When we went in, we parked in the deck and walked in. I did not want to take any bags in thinking I was going to be sent home. I even told the ER greeter not to tell anyone I was there just in case I was sent home. After getting in the room (very small), getting into a gown and being connected to the monitors, Lynn (one of the best OB nurses) told me that I would more than likely be staying. That scared me because it was actually going to happen that day! When they finally checked me I was at 5cm, sooo those contractions were doing something! My OB doc. came in, checked me and got my water broken which hurt a lot more than I remember with Caden! Things seemed to happen fairly quickly. I asked what I could have for pain, which was stadol, or epidural, I took some stadol even though the last time it only made me loopy. This time I dozed off between contractions but the pain was still intense. I asked when I could have an epidural and Lynn said now. So she checked me and I was at 8cm but I still wanted one. The Anesthesiologist was the same one I had with Caden and he did great! Lynn was there with me while I got the epidural. Eric had gone to take Caden to my parent’s house and home to take care of our dogs. The epidural helped a lot but the left side was not getting numb. Lynn told me that I could lay on my left side to have gravity help it. When I did, Jared’s heart rate dropped into the 80's so I went back to laying on my back, Right after the epidural was in, they started pitocin because Jared had moved back up! As it got closer to 3pm, with the contractions, Jared's heart rate wanted to drop so my OB doc and Lynn, along with some other nurses came in full-force and got me ready to start pushing. Right as the doc and nurses were coming in, Eric went to get something to eat since he had not eaten anything all day; he was starting to get sick. When Eric returned, he had a new little boy! I had to have oxygen via mask to help with the low heart rate that Jared was doing with my contractions. My OB doc had to cut me at an angle approx. 2cm since the last time I had a 4th degree cut/tear, she said it would act like a zipper and do the same thing again. Since I was numb on the right side, she went for that side. I could still feel everything on my left! They started me pushing around 3:10 and delivered at 3:27! That was the hardest pushing I have ever done!! Since his heart rate was dropping, they had to get him out. I had little broken blood vessels on my face and neck from the extreme pushing! (You can also get those under your eyes when you vomit from the force that is put on those blood vessels) Ya know, I think the pain with the right-sided cut was worse than with the 4th degree tear I had with Caden! It has taken me at least 4 weeks to feel like myself again but I would do it again in a heartbeat!

January~4th 2008: 38weeks and 1 day

Had my appt. this past Wed. and I am 3cm (still), 80% effaced! and at -1 station. So, I am hoping to go soon! My doc. told me that she was on call all weekend so hopefully this weekend or at least next week. I have an appt. scheduled for next Wed. and will be one day shy of 39 weeks. I will go ahead and let them break my water then if I have not already gone. We will see...I have had a lot of false labor but nothing that progresses. I have had contractions for the past couple early mornings like every 2 min. apart for over an hour and then they go away. I know to go to the hospital when they don't subside, it is just the waiting part! I started my leave this week too which is a big relief! I would rather give home and my son the energy before baby than work. Since I have short-term disability I thought, why not go ahead. It feels nice not to have to worry about going in! Night shift was getting to me, and the fact that I did not get good sleep at all when I worked.

December ~31st 2007: 37 weeks and 4 days

I am soooo antsy, woke up early this morning (around 0136) having contractions. They were pretty regular but did end a couple hours later. I am so ready to be done with work. I am dreading going in Wed. but work in the ED which is just below L&D. I am seriously thinking of starting my leave early but am not sure...should I or wait... My next appt. is Wed. at 3:50pm, just before I go into work but should I chance it and not call in or just go in?? Should I start my leave early?? I really need to call and see if I can start it this early. I don't see why I could not but I want to make sure everything is right with the paperwork in. Man I wish I was a stay at home mom!!!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

December ~28th 2007: 37weeks and 1day

Well, had a doc. appt. yesterday. Now I am 3cm and 60% at a -1 station. Contractions woke me up this morning at 0419 but no progress, woke up every so often after that with pains but now I am feeling all right, just tired. Thought I was leaking fluid but I think it was just sweat! NOT looking forward to going into work tonight! I wish I would have taken leave earlier but I want to spend as much time at home with Jared as I can. Hopefully at my appt. next week things will happen or maybe I will just go into labor before that???..well see

December~3rd 2007:33 weeks and 4 days

Things are still going all right, so ready to be out of work and at home with Jared! I pray that he comes at 38weeks at least which is when Caden did and everything went good. Work is getting harder and harder, esp. when we have a busy night. I am in triage a lot which helps out, but not when a patient comes in, in a wheelchair with no one to push them into triage. Then I have to pull them in, trying to hold the door too. See, the door does not have a holder or is not an automatic opening door. They are fire doors which have to remain closed at all times. Working on getting Christmas shopping done but it is tough when there is not a lot of money to go around. At least Caden is done except for some small stocking stuffers. We talk about Jared all of the time so I am hoping when he gets here, all will go smoothly. Tomorrow I have an OB appt., then I think they go every week after the next one. Sometimes it seems like such a waist of time going to the office for just a urine/wt./B-P/fundal ht. and fetal heart tones. I never get in when my appt. is, I always wait for 10-15 min. That is why I can't stand going to a doctors office. Oh well, par for the course. Hope everyone is feeling well and doing well! We don't have that much longer to go!!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

November~13th 2007: 30 weeks and 5 days

I can not wait to see Jared. I am really getting antsy now, ready to be out of work and home with baby and big brother! Since I work nights, Caden has to be quite for me to get any sleep so I am hoping that when Jared gets here, he will be use to being quite and let that little man sleep!! I hope that I go at 38 weeks, which is what I did with Caden. I had went in for my routine check up and I was 3cm and 90% effaced. We will see! Last weeks appt. went well and we got to see Jared again with u/s. It is amazing how much weight he has put on since last u/s. I am feeling all right, just sore lower abd. area today, not sure what for though. I worked last night 7pm-2am and felt that way when I got home. Last week we took a trip to Gatlinburg which went great, just went by too fast! Maybe all that walking is catching up to me too?!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

October~31st 2007: 28 weeks and 6 days

Well, things are still going good. Yesterday I over did it when I was cleaning Caden's room, moving some things to make room for Jared's items. My sciatic nerves are giving me a fit to were it is hard for me to walk at times. Sometimes I can hardly get out of the bed a certain way, I have to slowly get up so I don't have horrible pain. The only thing that will cure this is delivery, so at least 8-11 weeks to go with this! I did not have this at all with Caden and glad I did not. It is aggravating to say the least! I have an appt. next week for an ultra sound first then my OB appt. The reason I have to have another U/S is due to me measuring at 29 weeks at my 27th week check-up. This same thing happened with Caden and he weighed in just right at 7# 13oz and 21" long. I am really not worried about it. Just hope that Jared is not too big, Caden did a number on me. My cousin told me that as you go along (having babies) they get smaller so I am hoping for that! She has had 4 so she knows! I am also hoping that I do not have a back delivery, which is very painful and depends on what way the babies head is facing at delivery. The weeks are starting to fly by!! He will be here before I know it! Can't wait to see him though!!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

October~3rd 2007: 24 weeks and 6 days

He's still wiggling around in there, how reassuring to feel him move! Last OB appt. went well, after the next one, the every two weeks ones start! My how fast things are going now!! Can't wait to hold this little man!!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

August~21st 2007: 18 weeks and 6 days

Yesterday was our ultra sound and it is affirmed, we are having another Boy! I am actually glad we are having a boy, even though having one of each would be nice, boy's are so sweet! Really not set on a name yet but I still like Jacob, maybe Matthew. At least we have plenty of time to decide! I am feeling him move more, which is reassuring. I told my OB about the braxton hicks and she told me to drink plenty of water and rest when they start. She does not want 4 an hour, which the ones I have are long and not in any type of routine or pattern.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

August~14th 2007: 17 weeks and 5 days

Well, this past week has gone by quick and I can't believe that next week is the big ultra sound! It seems like I was further along with Caden when I had it done. Still having a lot of braxton hicks but nothing else. I notice them more when I am laying down so I just roll to my left and take some deep breaths. That normally stops them. I read in Dr. Sears book The Pregnancy Book, that they start in the 4th month and you may feel period like crampiness. Also that you notice them more in pregnancies after the first since you know what they are. To me, I just feel tight in my lower abd., no pain or anything thankfully! I pray that God has his hand on this little one and I have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby in the end!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

August~7th 2007: 16 weeks and 5 days

Last night at work I had our U/S tech. take a quick look and everything looks good and still looks like a BOY! I was concerned since I have been having a lot of braxton hicks contractions that I don't recall with my first. I think it is just me thinking too much and knowing what they are. I do feel him move a little more now. I am feeling better fatigue wise but had to vomit yesterday after I brushed my teeth because of the toothpaste taste. :o) I was hoping all of that was over but oh well, at least it is not everyday!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

July~26th 2007: 15 weeks today:

I have only felt one good kick and that was last Friday night at work. I thought for sure I would be feeling more but I mainly feel the baby moving positions, not kicking. With Caden, I felt flutters around 15 weeks. I am wondering if this is just going to be a laid back baby? We shall see in the upcoming weeks! Had an OB check up this Monday and the HR was 133; I was concerned about it being so low but the range is 120-160. They thought since I had been sleeping prior to coming in, that was the reason the baby is sleeping too. I will check tonight at work and see what the rate is. I wanted my OB to do an U/S but she was on call and did not have time to, oh well. My U/S for all of the measurements and the gender will be Aug. 20th! I can't wait til then to be reassured that everything is all right.

It does help. Thank you for sharing your experiences with me. : )

roxyshad - 44.2 hours ago
Thank you so much for responding to me. If you don't mind, can I ask you one other thing? If you weren't working would you pump at all? I'm debating if I even need to get a fancy breastpump or not. I'm planning on staying home and breastfeeding and not sure if I need to make that kind of investment or if I should just get a single or manual pump for emergencies only. Do you have any ideas on that?

mcbender3 - Sunday, 18 May
I have the regular manual avent pump that I also used for my son and I loved it! I bought a new one this time around tho. Do you think hand expressing milk during work about every 2 hours or so to help with engorgement will help me keep my milk supply up or do i have to actually pump a whole 3-4 oz? with my son, since the day he came home from the hospital till he was 7 weeks old I pumped my milk kuz he never latched on well. I pumped about 4 oz every 3hours and he ate alot!! lol

I just hope my work can work with me about pumping milk! I work at walmart as an overnight stocker for two days aweek so I dunno.. it's a pretty buzy job!

mcbender3 - Friday, 16 May
I saw your comment on the breastfeeding forum about working from 7-3. Do you pump at work or no??

I am curious because I do not plan on returning back to work until sept. 5th, I take my maternity leave after june 7th and I work from 10-630 but I leave my house at 930 and return at 7 in the morning. I don't plan on pumping while I am away because there is no way--no privacy at work and we're soo busy!-- I am wondering if this will cut my milk supply down or is it possible to go that long without pumping and still have milk supply. If i have to get milk out because of engorgement, I am sure to use the restroom and remove the milk by hand.. but What's ur opinion??

niseybear - Friday, 16 May
I pump manually and I just discovered a few days ago, I only pump well at night, so that's what I do. Yes I do take him into a quiet room or just simply mute the television, but sometimes, he just isn't interested. LOL Of course I like to breastfeed, I'm hoping to make it to 7 or 8 months. I'm really not interested in doing it for a year, but we'll see.

mommauv4 - Friday, 9 May
Little people are better off eating 6 snacks in a day rather than 3 bigger meals. This is inconvenient for Mommies but healthier for them. We have three sharing a room so I know the challenges there -it takes time and patience- 6 months having my room to myself and DH. YEah!!

Thank u so much for ur advice!! i was so on the fence about givng her the milk after i had such a horrible stomach upset!!

well we always want we dont or cant have... thats just a woman's nature..lol.. I know my hubby has absolutely no concept of being gentle.. his famous line "oh.. did that hurt?.. thats funny.. I didn't feel a thing!!!".. so all I can say is .. yeah .. that line is old.. get a new one!.. lol

Coliflower - Monday, 14 April
THANKS A BUNCH. I AM TAKING A LOOK NOW...

bayBontheway - Sunday, 13 April
wow.. I would have been devastated to have to pad for 3 months..haha.. I did that for years and was really tired of taking my breasts off at night and putting them on the dresser.. which is why I bought some permanent ones..lol.. now that i have them.. sometimes i wish i could take them off for a minute...lol.. we are so hard to please.. well.. i only want to take them off when they are tender.. it doesnt help that my hubby is 100 percent boob man and he doesnt understand what "please be gentle with them" means.. he is like a kid in the candy store trying to get his share before its all gone.. haha

I will most likely get them fixed down the road but they are good enough for now.. i will let the baby mangle them and let the hubby try to remold them.. then.. when no one else wants anything to do with them. i will have them sculptured again.. lol.. just to start all over again..hehe

bayBontheway - Saturday, 12 April
wow.. that is scary.. you must have felt awful after... i cant imagine what my breast would look like if the implant was gone... how horrible.. I also have the gels.. commonly referred to as gummy bear.. i love them.. they are under the muscle and it took a very long time for me to get used the feeling when I flexed.. but they look okay.. I am not ecstatic about them but they do look more natural than most implants.. I had them done twice... the first time they were not symmetrical.. one looked natural and the other looked like an implant... and they were too far apart.. plus.. somehow he made my nipples uneven.. one was an inch higher than the other.. so upsetting.. so he had to reshape the pockets.. OMG.. talk about pain.. the second surgery was the most pain I have ever endured.. when I woke up from surgery I hyperventilated and my blood pressure skyrocketed .. the nurse just sat and watched me scream cause she didnt want to give me the full dose of meds the doc ordered as she thought i was too thin... ohhhhh what I would have done to her had i been in possession of something sharp..lol.. it felt like I was being stung by a swarm of bees on my whole upper body... i dont know how many internal stitches i got but he had to restitch around the entire breasts.. they are still not the way i want them but.. they are so much better than before.. I hated to even look in the mirror at them.. i didnt pay 6 grand just to be even more insecure... they may have been small before but they were at least perfect..lol thanks for the sites.. I will check them out!

'The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God...' Psalm 14:1 this is one of my ALL TIME favorite vereses :)

okay, for the spitting up, yes, it's probably too fast a flow on the nipple. You should give him 2 oz. wait about 10min. then offer the rest. At 10wk.'s 4 oz might be just perfect, but remember, each baby is different. When your given a percentile rage, somebodies baby is at the TOP of that chart, and somebodies baby makes up the bottom. Doc's generaly put babies somewhere in the middle to create an average, but only YOU are going to beable to figure out if your baby eats more than the middle range or less. Unfortunatly a lot of parenting is trial and error, LOL!!

For washing the diapers I use Bio-Kleen, it's all natural. So here's my diaper routine:
1) run through a full cycle on cold/cold. This helps prevent stains and keeps 'stuff' from locking into the fibers.
2) wash through a full cycle on warm/warm with a scoop soap 1/2C baking soda and 1/2C vinegar
3) hang dry covers machine dry cloths

Also, I use 'Dappi' diaper covers www.babybestbuy.com they are SOOO inexpensive I think like $30 for a dozen. I have used this brand with all 6 and they work great. It's helpful to have a lrg. amount on hand :)
Hope all is going well, WOW! 12 weeks! It seems like a million yr.'s ago Simon was 12 wk.'s LOL!!! He's SOO BIG! Sounds like you're really enjoying your sweet little man :)
Glad to help if I can I just don't get back here as much as I'd like, so, just be patirnt with me :)
Hugs,
Ali

Hi Lena, wish I could help you but, I don't do THAT kind of work from home. I research human developement and speak at health conf. on baby/maternal/developemental issues based on my research of medical/scientific data.

I know what you mean though, there is a real need for qulified incomes for us professional mommies since income is low and cost of living is SO HIGH! With our large family and simple living style, it's still God's amazing grace that lets it all work out.

How's you beautiful family doing? how's baby jared and his proud big bro.? :)

bellydancer - Wednesday, 27 Feb
Hi Delenia! What a beautiful name. I see some of your favorite mommy items are mine as well ;)
There is a WONDERFUL article in the LLL magazine I just got a couple of days ago that has an example of a delayed shot schedule put together by Dr. Robert Sears. You should call and get it. 1-800-LELECHE I DEFINATLEY delay. There is NO shot my child gets untill past age 2yr. If you are exclusivley breastfeeding, not having your child in day care, there are TOO many risk factors to giving them the vac.

However, if you are formula feeding, instant milk is not living as breastmilk is and therefore posses no live antibodies. If you have to work full time and put Baby into a daycare center with formula, there are certain vac. Baby should get ASAP. Your babies nutrition & environment is really the deciding factor in vaccinating.

I work from home and breastfeed past 1yr., so I really won't risk a vac that could cause SIDS or many other side effects I've come to witness over the years in both animals and people. In the end though, only YOU can make the choice. Don't let a doc make it for you. if you decide to do it, at least ask for MSG & preservative free. A little more pricy, but your baby is worth it. GREAT pic's Caden looks like a movie star :)

Have you read any books on vaccinating?
