My profile

I am 38 yrs old and married for almost 14 yrs. I have a son, who will be 4 in July. It took us 9 years to have him! He is a great kid with an awesome sense of humor and kindness that makes him an extrovert! We always wanted another child, we tried for while when my son was 2 yrs old, but nothing...so we just figured it wasn't meant to be.

Well, on April 17th, after 2 weeks of some serious sore boobs, I tested...YEP! So I am due between Dec 24th and the 26th. A holiday baby! Of course there is stress..I am officially called a woman of AMA..ADVANCED MATERNAL AGE...that means I am over 35. Bummer.....don't like the term and the additional stress Doc's place on us AMA's to do extra testing. I am also high risk due to diabetes. I had it with my son....and it means alot of testing and monitoring. Takes some of the joys out of being pregnant, but it is do-able. My son was born healthy and at a great weight of 7lbs and 6 oz.....most diabetics have huge babies!

So.....I will do my 1st trimester screening this wed., and then an amnio if I come up with a high ratio....other than that, I am enjoying teh process, even with morning sickness that lasts all day and some serious energy drains!!!

How`s my pregnancy doing?

I like yogurt too. Hope you feel better soon. I get headaches some too and I'm very tired at night. Talk to you soon!

The constipation thing was driving me crazy and making me depressed. I eat healthy but maybe not as much "leafy greens" and water as I should. I spoke to my doctor and she finally gave in to me taking Colace, it's a stool softener, (I'm taking 2 50mg tablets a day). She just said don't take too much because she doesn't want the opposite effect to happen,

I'm feeling pretty good. Thanks for asking. I never get much computer time unless I'm at work and can get the time there to get on here and chat with everyone. How have you been feeling?

About the constipation I was taking stool softeners everyday for like 2 weeks and nothing was any better...it was horrible! I talked to my doctor and he said to try two instead of one and it works so much better. I actually only have to take 2 about once a week. I have to warn you it hits you at once but as soon as it hits you its over....not an all day thing. it seems like now that I am cleaned out everything is flowing much better in general. Any stool softener is ok, but if it would make you feel better call your doctor and ask which they would reccomend!

About the constipation, my doctor told me to take Pericolase. You can get it at the pharmacy OTC. I take 2 at one time to get me started, then 1 tablet once a day as needed! It usually takes about 6 hours to work. Just drink plenty of water! This is the only bad thing about my pregnancy!

Hey! I'll be 40 when I have my third child on Christmas Day! Definitely starting over! Good luck to you!

Congrats on your baby girl. I also have one of each already and it is a true blessing. You will love it, its a good balance in the house as well as for them. Now go buy some pink!

hey there how are you going? i've been thinking about you and july the 2nd and wondering if you've managed to keep busy? anyway its very close now and i'm sure everything will be fine but i totally understand your fear. have you ever tried valerian? its a natural sedative like valium.... xx anne

I am still upset....had the NT redone on MOnday and the baby wouldn't stay still long enough to even get a shot! They did the blood work, but that was it. I havbe scheduled the amnio for July 2nd and am a wreck.....I must be able to take some medication before they do it....I will have a panic attack and flip out!

annie40 - Wednesday, 18 June
hi there i'm AMA as well although in australia its known lovingly as "high risk pregnancy!" i just had my nucal test and it came back at the high end of normal, still waiting for the blood test results though, i'm also a first time mum so i'm pretty nervous and completely unsure what to do about amnio's etc. anyway i'll wait till the blood results come back first. i can't offer advice but i can let you know your not alone, take care, annie x

I guess you have to consider it this way... What would you do if you have bad results from an amnio? Granted, severe birth defects would be one thing, but if it came back Down's...Would that change what you would do? If so, then perhaps it is worth the amnio, but only if the other tests show something to worry about. But, if you feel you would still have the baby, then why risk the pregnancy at all? Another point to consider is the nucal ultrasound and genetic testing do NOT prove one way or the other that the child would have anything wrong, only the percentage of chance it could be wrong. On the flip side an amnio does show it positively. I don't blame you, I couldn't do the amnio either.
Just relax. I would bet Monday you will get the picture you need to get the measurement and there will be no worries. Heck, I didn't even go in with a full bladder and got the picture the second time. It will be ok. Honestly, the darn stick for the bloodwork hurt more than anything! LOL I will keep positive thoughts for you...

Well, your hubby doesn't seem to understand the fear of amnio. Never mind the giant needle heading right into the middle of your stomach- there is a risk to the pregnancy. I know at my age, and this being my first ( and likely only) pregnancy, I wasn't willing to take that chance. But like I said, the second nucal was a breeze. Did they take your blood last time? ( the other half of the genetic testing) I did have to wait for my results a couple days after my second nucal because the bloodwork results had not come back in. But when they did, coupled with the nucal fold measurement, my odds dropped from something like 2% chance ( due to age) to under .5% chance. I figured that was good enough for me, no need for amnio. I just did my cystic fibrosis testing a couple weeks ago. I will get those results next week at my check-up. I believe I am a couple weeks ahead of you, so maybe you haven't been offered that screen yet. ( They also said this screening could possibly detect Down's too) Long story short, it should all be ok. It's all nerve wracking to go through. All we want are healthy babies. I kind of feel these tests actually scare people more than reassure them. I hope to hear back you have your scan next week and it's smooth sailing....Good luck and keep your chin up!!!

hey sugar - i am also "advanced maternal age" and i know that can lead to some concern, but you can focus on that concern and make it grow or you can let it go. the web can be fun but it can also feed insanity as you know!
the reality is, that your odds are OVERWHELMINGLY good for all to go well. overwhelmingly. just because a younger womans odds are even MORE overwhelmingly good isnt a reason to fret, you know what i mean?
they just take some blood, and the vaginal ultrasound is so damn cool you immediately forget the thing is in there. youll be great.

Thank you, a friend that works with me hears this same sob story in every relationship I get involved with after him and today she said I already know where my heart is which is the truth. If he popped up out of nowhere I would surely leave with him. My high school sweetheart that got seperated by distance. I tried moving on but the more the years go by, the more I notice that I still love him. I just want to talk too him and see if there is a chance-I need that closure. Because I will "NEVER" love anyone like I love him-EVER, im sorry to the future loves of my life.

rachyg - Tuesday, 3 June
You poor girl. I hope it all goes well for you. My fingers are crossed and I will be thinking of you. Let me know how you go.
