My profile

I am 38 yrs old and married for almost 14 yrs. I have a son, who will be 4 in July. It took us 9 years to have him! He is a great kid with an awesome sense of humor and kindness that makes him an extrovert! We always wanted another child, we tried for while when my son was 2 yrs old, but nothing...so we just figured it wasn't meant to be.

Well, on April 17th, after 2 weeks of some serious sore boobs, I tested...YEP! So I am due between Dec 24th and the 26th. A holiday baby! Of course there is stress..I am officially called a woman of AMA..ADVANCED MATERNAL AGE...that means I am over 35. Bummer.....don't like the term and the additional stress Doc's place on us AMA's to do extra testing. I am also high risk due to diabetes. I had it with my son....and it means alot of testing and monitoring. Takes some of the joys out of being pregnant, but it is do-able. My son was born healthy and at a great weight of 7lbs and 6 oz.....most diabetics have huge babies!

So.....I will do my 1st trimester screening this wed., and then an amnio if I come up with a high ratio....other than that, I am enjoying teh process, even with morning sickness that lasts all day and some serious energy drains!!!

How`s my pregnancy doing?

It is so good to see someone on here close to my age. I am 34. I read your post in 10 weeks. I can't remember everything that it said...but I am also suffering from extreme exhaustion I am usually good until about 3 pm and then I am out of it. Can't think straight, feel light headed, and feel like I have tunnel vision because I am so tired. Sometimes I suffer from headaches and sometime nausea too. They both seem to be much better in the last two weeks. Though the nausea was something that came around week 6 - 8, so I haven't had it the whole time. I also work outside in the heat which I don't think is helping me in that respect. My husband is part owner and I run a Dolphin Cruise boat in Destin, FL. I hope you are feeling better or will be very soon. I can't wait to hit 14 weeks.

I just wanted to give you some of my history so that you could have some idea as to what "can" happen. I am glad you are not having the CVS as I did at 12 weeks and the baby died. He had developed a blood clot in the umbilical cord during the procedure. Amnios are supposed to be safer, but my opinion is that if this could happen to me, if I could be in that 1% already then I will do nothing else to further complicate this new pregnancy. Even if something were wrong with the baby, I would still keep it so what is the point? Don't get me wrong I am not speaking from an uneducated place. I am a pediatric nurse and while it can give parents a heads up on what may come, I have seen them be terrified and the baby be healthy. Sometimes knowledge is power, but something can alwasy go wrong and if we prepare ourselves for just the possibility then I believe we can handle it just as well as knowing beforehand. Sorry I am rambling I hope I gave you a different viewpoint. Good luck on whatever you decide. I will pray for you.

At six weeks, all they could see was a yold sac on me, and a week later, there was the little bean with a strong heartbeat! I am keeping you in my thoughts!

HCG levels rising are a really good sign!! Spotting can be common as the baby is in-bedding into your womb! Fingers crossed for you and plenty of sticky glue!! Good luck x

Just to make you feel better I have had at least two UTI's during this pregnancy and everything is still okay :knocks on wood: also I did have some spotting around my 11th week, they did an ultrasound, everything was still fine! If you HCG lvl is going up that is a good sign... I will keep you in my thoughts!
