The day I found out I was pregnant was both the happiest and the scariest day of my life...
Six years ago, I was very ill with ovarian cancer. I was fortunate enough to pull through thanks to excellent healthcare and a very loving husband. One ovary had to be removed completely, the other partially. I knew I should just feel so incredibly grateful to be alive, but a small part of me was very sad about the prospect of a future void of children. I was told by my surgeon and my oncologist that only time could tell whether I'd be able to conceive.
We started trying for a baby 5 years ago, but to no avail. Last October, I went to see a specialist who told me it would never happen. IVF wasn't an option either because the procedure used to remove eggs is considered too high-risk for anyone with a history of ovarian cancer (it can trigger cysts). Daniel and I started discussing adoption in earnest. Then in late April this year, we discovered I was 7 weeks pregnant. I took three tests, all positive, but we still didn't dare believe it until it was confirmed by a doctor. We both burst into tears at our first scan... and now here we are. Our little miracle is growing by the day, and we can't wait for its arrival so we can smother it in kisses.
