pregnancy

I am a first time mommy, and am married to the most wonderful person I've ever met. I am terrified because i am leaving my home to move with my husband who is in the Air Force. We are moving all the way to Alaska from California. I have to leave my family but him and i are making our family so its the right thing to do..

Dec. 18th
My pregnancy so far has had its ups and downs.. In the beginning i had the implantation bleeding, we went straight to the E.R. and couldn't see a heartbeat.. the doctors figured the baby was just still so small..and the doctors had to take blood from me about every other day to check my HCG's..Finally afrter 2 weeks of anxiety we saw the heartbeat! It was so relieving and the happiest day of my life up till that point..

March 25th
At about 19.5 weeks pregnant we had our mid-pregnancy ultrasound.. he was being stubbourn and we couldnt really see the parts of the head that we needed t oo. But my wishes came true it was a little boy! My husband was soo excited!
Then the phonecall came. The technician said we needed to go to a specialist because my son's ventricles looked like they were enlarged a few millimeters over normal range. Which could mean a number of things. Then another doctor called me and said there was cysts! This was especially hard on my husband since he had recently lost his mother to cancer. But the good news, the AFP tests all came back to 1 in 10,000 so the numbers for any chromosonal disorders were so minimal that they said an amnio was definetely not recommended. So another few stressful days went by and we had to drive an hour to a specialist to find out what was going on with our little boy.. I think the hardest part of this all right now is my husband isnt with me he is already in Alaska so its been pretty lonely..

April 1st
The ultrasound showed the previous findings were not even there! They said the technician definetely measured wrong and in the cysts matter, they had read the wrong report! Go figure! The ventricles in his brain were WELL WITHIN normal limits.. But my son did have a slight difference, he had a dangling choroid. The doctor and 2 specialists said that its definetely not something to worry about because a dangling choroid with normal sized ventricles means that its just a normal variant and I will be fine. They recommended I come back in 2 weeks just to make sure that the ventricles have stayed within normal range.

April 3rd
I was hit by a car! I was walking my dog and some lady backed into me! It was horrible.. my back and hips hurt because the fall i took to the ground. She didnt even give me the right information and she just left me! So i went to the E.R. and the heartbeat was fine, and an ultrasound showed my lil guy was holding on just fine there was no problems or abnormal leakage but they did hook me up to a machine to make sure i was not having any contractions..

April 11th
On the way to the ultrasound i was so nervous! I had stopped worrying about it so much and just trying to realize everything was happening for a reason. I came to the conclusion that I was keeping my son regardless of the findings. At first i pleaded and prayed to God telling him if my son was ok I would have a natural childbirth (lol, i said this because both my husband, his brothers, and my father was over 13lbs) but then finally I just surrended and said its not in my hands anymore. The 2 hours spent there and then the doctor came in smiling and said although his choroid is still dangling, its just a little difference with my lil man. And that his ventricles are still the same size.. I have never had a moment where I have felt joy and love like this before.

Now i am just mad that i dont feel him moving as much as i usually do. I felt him so good for a few days and then barely nothing.. But I need to stop stressing! My lil one is just stubborn..

In 6 and a half days I will be leaving my family to go be with my husband. I have grown so much since he's seen me last and I am so excited to be around him!

April 14th
So on saturday night I had to go to labor and delivery. My son still hadn't moved as much as he was before. So wen talking to the advice nurse i drank ice cold water and i didnt really feel him in an hour time period. So i went in. They hooked me up to a monitor to hear his heartbeat which sounded good and normal! That was awesome. Then they did a quick ultrasoun and right before they start i felt him move quite a bit. STUBBORN LITTLE THING! just like his daddy! Then when they started the ultrasound he was moving alot! but i didnt feel him. He was stretching his legs and bending them.. and moving his hands all around. I guess its true, even after you start feeling your kid but your not TOO far along yet there are just time your not going to feel your baby because of the position he or she may be in..
Well only 5 more days to go until im with my husband in our new house!! And we bought a little chocolate labrador puppy=] my husband had one as a kid and he swears by them as being great family dogs.. The breeder has a baby and all the dogs are wonderful and very protective over their child.. So thats good news!

April 15th
So i went to the DR's and my BP is high..
I am so scared..

That's so tuff, 'cause you're excited, I know.... but, be patient, soon enough he's going to run outta room and his feet are going to be catching your ribs. He's fine, it's ok to be scared when it comes to that stuff. What I did to calm my nerves and fears was to get a doppler. I got the kind that you get at baby stores. That soothed me quite a bit. I'd listen to his heart sometimes all night. Maybe that's something that would take the worry off your shoulders??

Hey Nicole!
Don't worry about the fact you can't feel the movements, because that used to happen to me all the time! I relized that he was turned so his kicks and punches were hitting my back and not my belly. If you like take a drink of cold, sweet juice and see if that wakes up the little turkey. LOL! Have a awesome pregnancy!

Hi Nicole
My pregnancy has been relatively stress free. The most stressful aspects have been the anticipation of the fetal movements and the prental birth defects testing. I am 36 years old and my risk for a baby with birth defects are slighlty higher than younger women. My tests yielded a pretty safe risk factor that is more like a woman in young 20's. But the process was nerveracking and 1 of my dr.s even goofed on some erroneous results that really stressed me out! This happened right around the time that I was expecting to feel movements. But all else has been pretty good. Right now I am just anxious if I don't feel a lot of action from baby lol!
take care

I will and thank you for the support. I feel that all this may end up resolving itself. The brain is complex organ and they don't know everything about it. People get bleeds on the brain all the time and they end up being ok. Thanks for the support!

i am actually beginning to feel allot better, I seem to be able o sleep during the night after 3 weeks of crap sleep, my back is on the mend & all feels good!

catsa79 - Sunday, 27 April
oh no L & D as in labor and delivery? sorry just that our ER is Just Emergency and we have the labor ward! What did they say to you? That he was probably just asleep? All i can say is I know we have labor still to go but pregnancy is scary the whole way!!

cjengo - Saturday, 26 April
Ok just confused and not sure what route to go. It's like the doctor is giving us the worst case scenario and on the other hand saying she cannot predict anything. Thanks for checking in.

HI Nicole
I just read your message about fetal movements. I have been in the same boat. I am 26 weeks and have been feeling baby for the past 3.5 weeks. His movements are gradually getting stonger and more frequent. The past 2 days have been lighter kicks and less frequent. I called my dr. and she said it is ok as long as you still feel some movements. She said that the baby can get into postions that reduce your ability to feel the movements. I have been just as anxious as you and I find relief from this web site and talking w/my nurses and drs. hope this helps.
Also my dr. said that the reduced or lack of movement is more of a concern after about 28 weeks. Hope this helps.

well that sucks. Is there somewhere else you could get it shipped to and then get them to post it on like family or someone?

catsa79 - Saturday, 26 April
This is my 1st pregnancy & i freak out every day. for example this morning i slept in to about 9am, whilst i was in bed i didn't really notice movement. i got up ate breakfast and poked and prodded and got nothing, i lay down on the couch, then sat up & thought i'll have a shower then see. As i sat up i got a small thud! i does ya head in! sometimes i think this site is goo, but honestly i think it can be really bad as u read other peoples stories etc and u just have to stop it, get on make a post, i try to be positive and get off!!! I have been stressed about pregnancy the whole time too, you never really understand it until its happening inside you thats for sure!

riknlee - Saturday, 26 April
why dont you hire or buy a doppler. I have one and it is such a relief to hear his heartbeat if ever I am worried.

catsa79 - Friday, 25 April
like i posted b4 u the baby doesnt have to move every hour! but like the other girls said, if in doubt ring your doctor, or midwife, or hospital ;-0

riknlee - Friday, 25 April
I agree. If you feel worried you should really go to the doctors and have a chat or something. You are the best one to judge what is normal for you and for bubby. After some of the stories I have read, if you have a gut feeling about something - act on it! We are all right here everyday and you can talk to us anytime.

Nicole, hey, if you're really worried about your baby, go to the doctor. It's the only way to know for sure that he's ok. I'm sure he's fine though. My little girl has some days where she's just not as active as she is on others. I'm 25 weeks. I think it's normal for them to have days when they're not as active. I'm sure they get tired just like we do : ) anyway, like I said if you really feel worried, just call the doc. Good luck! I'm sure he's fine.

kelly714 - Friday, 25 April
You sound so much like me its scary!! lol My mid-term US I they couldnt see my little guys head or face, he had them buried in my bladder...Now about the movement deal, I had the same thing happen to me around 25 weeks. My guy was rockin and rollin for about a week and then for like 2 whole days he hardly moved at all, just a little bump here and there! So I called the doc and they sent me to be monitored and as soon as I got there he started moving :) anyway, they hooked me up and monitored him for about an hour and he was registering all kinds of movement but I COULD NOT feel 99% of it. Now he goes through those spells off and on just not for 2 whole days. Like today he has been pretty quiet, but I heard they quiet down when they go thru a growth spurt..So anyway TRY not to worry (thats almost impossible, I know!) but if you dont hesitate to call your OB if you feel you need to :)

mplsmama - Friday, 25 April
Hi there, I saw your question about fetal movements -- I'm 33 wks, and I know that when I was around 23-24 wks, my baby's movement definitely varied from day to day. I'd feel it a lot one day, then not as much the next. I was worried too, but I generally tried to give it a day or two and usually it'd start moving more again. I didn't feel it totally consistently until probably 26 wks or so... I think they say you should feel movement daily at about 24 wks, but you won't necessarily feel it the same amount every day. If you're real nervous, you may want to call your dr. It'll probably just ease your mind that everything is ok. I hope that helps. Best of luck!

cjengo - Thursday, 24 April
I go tomorrow for the fetal MRI so we will know for sure. I went yesterday for another routine sonogram and they said they didn't see any calcium deposits on the brain, etc. He was also moving, kicking, etc so lots of brain activity. I am nervous about tomorrow but I guess we will see. Thanks for asking!
