Saturday, 11 October most people are RH negative. If their partner is positive, then there is a chance that baby will be positive 2. For the first baby, this is fine. For the next baby though, things change. If mommy is - and baby is +, then the two fight eachother. Mommy's immune system thinks its growing a virus and tries to kill the baby. SO, they give a shot containing Rhogram, and the problem is solved. IT will depend on the type of inducement you have. If you start with cervidil, you have to lay down so it doesn't fall out- as its a string with mediation in it that they insert on your cervix. If you start with pitocin, which runs from an IV, you can walk around UNLESS you also then get an epidural at the same time. There are two types of epidurals- one is a kind that you can still walk around with. THe other, more common is one that you loose feeling in your lower half of your body- meaning your legs. You can't feel your legs= you can't walk. Generally, most women get an epidural when they get induced b/c the contractions are sooo much more intense and painful. If you get an non-walking epidural, you will also get a catheter and an IV- making walking more difficult. B/c getting an epidural makes things more intense, they also will want to monitor the baby more closely. So you will have to be lying in the bed with a monitor belt strapped around your stomach. This means you can't walk. I really wanted to be able to do whatever i needed to do, so being in the tub for a while, my midwife used a hand held doppler to check the fetal heartrate. I was only monitored with the belly monitor (which measures heart rate and contraction intensity) at the end- when things started to fall apart- after she broke my water and discovered the breech position. Wednesday, 8 October the iv med they use is called 'pitocin' which gets slowly dripped into you. The contractions it causes is pretty intense too, but its MUCH safer than the pill drug. Cervidil comes in the form of a squishy rope that they coil over your cervix and causes it to soften. Yep, you can breastfeed when you have a cold! I think we (baby and me) had a series of 6 colds last winter mostly b/c we were hanging out around our friends kids too much who are little germ spreaders. Still, we made it through the winter okay and hopefully my immune system will be stronger this winter so it won't be as bad. I'm sad you won't be on as much. I hope I can still hear from you about how you are doing. I know all about boys and video games. Mine can be the same way sometimes. Really, I think they don't age past 10 years old sometimes. hopefully he'll pay attention to you when you go into labour! Debra -
Wednesday, 8 October cytotec is a medication thats a pill inserted into the vagina and placed next to the cervix. Its used for inductions only in the USA. Its cheap, and it causes violent contractions. It was originally made to be used to treat gastric ulcers and I dont' know why it was then started for use to induce women, but someone did it i guess and it worked. They FDA does not approve its use for induction, and neither do the manufacturers of the drug. They have told doctors before to stop using it, but its use is still continued. For the most part, it can be quite successful to start labour BUT!! it has caused contractions that are so strong that they have ruptured the uterus, causing instant maternal death and also the force of the contractions have forced amniotic fluid into the mom's blood stream, again causing her death. Its also been known to cause fetal distress and fetal death as well. So all in all, not really a good drug to use. I don't know why they don't stop using it, but i'm sure it has something to do with the insurance policies in the USA and the type of care some women are forced to have. If you need to be induced, its safer to use pitocin or cervidil. This is also all in one of the last chapters of the Ina May book.
I'm glad to hear you are feeling better! Having a cold in those last few weeks would suck. Do the contractions feel any different than braxton hicks? Keep me updated!! SurferBabyGirl-on-board -
Wednesday, 8 October Nope, I think they want to do the u/s first. She said if we can atleast get me to 37 wks. then they will induce...she said there is the possibilty of having to do it sooner...good luck & I'll keep ya posted. SurferBabyGirl-on-board -
Tuesday, 7 October My doctor said typically at 36 to 37 wks they are term (can be delivered @ that age in gestation & can be as normal as they would be @ 40 wks) I have a u/s friday to check her weight, breathing, & fluid & other things to see if she is ready...I wouldn't see why our little ones couldn't go home w/us unless there are complications SurferBabyGirl-on-board -
Tuesday, 7 October Wow I'm sorry to hear that...how have you been through your pregnancy?? I'm 1/2 glad I don't have to go through almost another month, but then again the thought she's going to be here & early & their could be complications scare the crap outta me! lol! Laura Ward -

Hi there,
I work for a television production company based in the UK . We are currently making a documentary for ITV1 exploring the issues surrounding pregnancy and eating disorders. The film will be a thoughtful and insightful look into this extremely sensitive subject.
We’re in the research stage of our production and very keen to chat to women who are, or have been, pregnant whilst having an eating disorder.
If you’re interested in having a chat or finding out more about our documentary, it would be really great to hear from you. All communication would be in complete confidence.
You can contact me on: seema.modhvadia@rdftelevision.com
