So, my story is that I have a 4 year old daughter. I was on clomid when I conceived her. We had tried for 2.5 years before conceiving her. When she was about 6 months old, we started trying again. After about a year and a half, we started going to doctors again. They said that since I was ovulating, that they couldn't give me clomid again. We didn't really want to go down the infertility road, so we eventually stopped "trying" (worrying about timing, doing temps, etc.) When my daughter was 3 and a half, she decided that I should have a baby for my birthday. Her dad talked with her about it and encouraged her to pray about it. So, she did. She prayed off and on for this for months. My birthday came and went last year, no pregnancy, no baby. She was disappointed. We talked with her about how God answers prayers sometimes - yes, no and wait. So she prayed some more. A few weeks after this conversation, I found out that I was pregnant. And guess what - the baby is due on my birthday.

This pregnancy had been full of some ups and downs, but not too bad. One of the more difficult things for me has been that in my work as a hospital chaplain, I am sometimes called to help people who have suffered a pregnancy loss. I had to do that the same week that I found out that I was pregnant and a couple of times since. Not a fun thing to do. The only other thing is getting emergency calls at all hours of the night, but I've been doing this for 7 years, so am kind of used to it.

Hope you are feeling ok today? I am at work - I have to do one Saturday every 6-7 weeks. Typically the Saturdays I have to work are the sunniest and warmest days all year, and today is no exception! The sun has finally appeared and it is a lovely day....I am stuck at work until 5pm! At least the girls have gone out for the day with their dad, so they will be having a great time!
I remember that stage of pregnancy, where suddenly even maternity clothes won't fit any more...its not funny! By the end of my last pregnancy I think only one pair of jeans and a few baggy tops would fit...I was sick of wearing them by the time Kate arrived!
Swimming is lovely when you are pregnant isn't it? The water supports the weight of the baby and you don't notice it at all. Its just when you get out of the pool that suddenly the weight you have been carrying unnoticed hits you and you feel so heavy! I bet you found the swimming really relaxing.
I had piano lessons until I was about 15 and got to grade 5 level. I love to play and really miss having the time to do so at the moment...I am going to try very hard to make time so that I can play for the baby!
Yes, I have been feeling the baby move around every day, although not all the time at the moment. The movements are stronger than they were and it is very reassuring when I notice them. You are right about missing them when the baby is born. I found that with both pregnancies and it will be harder this time because there won't be any thought of 'til the next time I have a baby'. 3 children will be our lot!
I don't have any preference as to the sex of the baby, but I guess I am hoping for my husband's sake that it is a boy....can you imagine my husband having to share the house with 4 females! We have decided to ask about the sex of the baby when we have the 20 week scan done in a few weeks time. Although, we have also decided not to tell the children as they will probably tell EVERYONE if we do! It is nice for there to still be some kind of surprise when the baby is born!
Must get a bit of work done! Enjoy the weekend, speak to you soon, Valx

i agree.... i'm running out of clothes that fit!!! when you first buy maternity clothes you assume they'll work the entire pregnancy.... HAHA i wish. and work clothes are the worst!!! no big tshirts and sweat pants lol. to make matters worse, my job announced this week that we're changing our dress codes completely starting may 1st. so the clothes i HAVE managed to get won't work anymore, and i hate to buy new work clothes that will only fit for 3 or 4 weeks. how rediculous!!!! anyways, hope everything else is going well for you! take care!

Hi! You sounded a little bit down in your message, so I am sending you a big smiley face to cheer you up! :-) The last few weeks of pregnancy are always really tough. It is difficult to get comfortable sitting down and sleeping, and walking about can be very tiring, carrying the extra weight. Your body has a whole person to support, so you are bound to feel much more tired than normal. I think pregnant women are entitled to be grumpy! It is also harder when you are working and have another child to take care of...4/5 year olds can still be quite demanding even though they are more understanding and sympathetic than younger children. I worked up until 10 days before Kate was born, Bethan was almost 4 at the time, and I remember feeling very tired. I was relieved to finish work in the end (and so were my colleagues who were preparing themselves for me to give birth at work - lol!)
Maybe a little bit of time out for yourself would make you feel a bit better? I have been trying to get back into reading a bit more. I used to read such a lot, but it has been very hard to find the time since having children. I also love to play the piano, and although we have one in the house it must be over 2 years since I sat down and played anything properly.
Hey, but you are right - not long to go! Your baby could arrive any time now. Were you early or late with your daughter? My girls both arrived a couple of days after their due date, so I think I will be here for the duration!
Keep smiling! Take care x

Yes, I know how lucky I am being able to have such a long period of time on maternity leave - I am going to make the most of it! My (male) boss was quite shocked to find that I could take so long off! He was expecting me to return to work not too long after Christmas (LOL!)
Working 12 hours a week means that you will still get plenty of time with the baby. Part-time is the perfect family/work balance - enough to keep the brain stimulated, but plenty of time for the special times with the children..at least that is how I feel. I work 17 hours, so just a bit more than you do and I seem to thrive on the variety that my life gives me.
I can't remember how much weight I gained in my previous pregnancies, it seems so long ago now! I was huge though - and people very kindly told me so, and took pleasure in saying 'wow you are carrying low'! Still, my girls were 9lbs, 3oz and 8 lbs, 14 - so it was no surprise! I am short and not exactly what you would call big, so it looked like I was expecting twins! I know what you mean about staying under your husband's weight - but I can afford to put on 4 stone and still not catch him up (he is very tall, hence the big babies I guess).
I am so glad I found this website...I wish I had come across something like this when I was pregnant first time. Thank you for taking the time to write. Its amazing to hear from people like you who have so much in common despite living so far away. Best wishes x

Hello, thanks for your message. Riley Michelle is a very pretty name. I think it is lovely to have a name ready for the baby when he/she is born. A close friend of mine had so much trouble choosing a name that her baby was called baby for almost 2 months! I am sure that having a name must help with the whole bonding process when the baby arrives.
I think it is great that you are able to carry on working up until your baby is born. The job you do must help so many people in difficult circumstances....will you have any kind of paid maternity leave and if so will there be someone to cover your work? I am very lucky in that the University where I work has a good maternity policy. I can take a year off work, although some of that is unpaid. I also have an 8 week summer holiday period as I only work term-time (17 hours a week). This means that I am hoping to finish work in July 2008 and not return until September 2009! It will be a very special time..not only with the new baby, but also because my younger daughter starts school in September. It will be good to be at home every day to drop her off and pick her up - especially as she will be part time for over a month.
I am feeling very well thank you. I haven't gained much weight yet, but suddenly have a big tummy! Its funny how it appears over night! I actually wore some maternity trousers to work today and found they fitted me fine! I guess I can say goodbye to my waist line for a while now!
How is your daughter? Is she going into over-drive with excitement at the moment! I seem to remember the last few weeks seem to drag by a bit more slowly, so at least you have your work to think about too.... Hope you get some time to put your feet up! Take care, Valerie

Hello, sorry for the delay in replying. We have been away for a week while the girls are having their spring break from school. We didn't go too far away from home, but it was just nice to have a change of scene. Unfortunately the UK seems to be suffering from some quite unseasonably cold weather and the best temperature we got all week was 8 degrees C! We even had several snow showers during the first few days of our holidays. The girls found it all very exciting though!
Have you had any more thoughts about names? I think it is lovely to name your baby after your husband's sister. Both my girls have middle names taken from people that we knew. Bethan's middle name is Rose, which was the name of a really old lady I used to buy my paper from every day when I was working full time. She told me she never made money from working, but just liked to do it so that she kept seeing people every day. Even when it was freezing cold or raining she would always have a smile and a cheery greeting. Suddenly one day she wasn't there any more. After a couple of weeks I called the company that she sold papers for and they told me she was taken ill. Sadly I never saw her again so I couldn't tell her about the pregnancy. I think she would have been very happy that we used her name for my daughter.
Kate's middle name is Lily - that was my grandmother's name. She died many years ago, but was a very strong and spirited character. Kate has quite a number of her personality traits, so the name has fitted her well! I hope she lives as long as my grandmother did - she lived until she was 94!
If this baby is a girl then the middle name is already fixed - it will be Iris, after our fantastic 94 yeard old next door neighbour. She is totally amazing and a true inspiration to everyone that meets her. She lost her husband 22 years ago to Parkinson's Disease, but lost none of her enthusiasm or energy for life. She has always kept herself busy and done so many things for so many other people. I guess in some respects I am hoping for another girl as Iris would be thrilled to have a baby named after her. She never had any children of her own nor any brothers or sisters, so in many ways neighbours and friends have been her family.
The 'flower' theme has worked well with the girls...I may be coming to you for some help in finding a suitable 'flower' middle name for a boy! :-)
Sorry, I seem to have rabbited on for so long. I hope you are well and not finding the last part of your pregnancy too tiring. Are you still working at the moment and if so when will you stop, or will you carry on up until your baby is born? Best wishes x

That is too cool. When my daughter was born we did the same thing. Her middle name is Evelyn after my hubby's deceased grandmother. Love the name Rylie/ Riley / Rylee too!

bittybop - Friday, 11 April
I like Rylie. LOVE the middle name (same as mine, haha:)

Thanks for your response to my question on appointing someone to make decisions on behalf should I not be able to. I've asked my mother to and her response was she always has my best interests in mind, so that made me feel good with my decision. I also know that in the case something should happen to me that my mother would take excellent care of my son. I'm going to tell my doctor at my next appointment so that I can take the proper steps either through him or the hospital. Once again thanks and God Bless you and your family!

sparklyval - Tuesday, 1 Apr
Sorry to hear about your ailments - pregnancy throws everything it possibly can at us doesn't it! But it will be so worth it. I can't believe you only have about 50 days to go! Have you thought of any names? It is so difficult to decide on just the 'right' name...I spent ages thinking about names when I was pregnant before. I hope you are feeling better soon and be sure to take good care of yourself. x

kmfitz - Monday, 31 Mar
Hey, when are you taking off work? My last day is april 30th and then I'm taking those last three weeks plus my maternity leave.

Why are people so insensitive?? It's my first child--of course I'm going to want all the time I can possibly take. We're human! UGH!

sparklyval - Thursday, 27 Mar
Hi, Just thought I would let you know that my 12 week scan today was fine - it seemed to be over in no time - the paperwork, blood tests and questions took well over 4 times as long: nearly 3 hours at the hospital!
It is so fantastic to see the baby on the screen and it has given me some much needed peace of mind. Also it is just one baby (so God must be looking after me!)
Next thing is trying to remember where my maternity clothes went to as it has been 5 years since I needed them!
I hope that you are keeping well - not too long to go now! Take care x

ms.grimah - Tuesday, 25 Mar
Hello there, thank you so much for ur advice!... I will try to relax myself now & not to worry too much already. Anyway, my house is 25 to 30 mins.travel to the hospital without traffic jam.:D

storm826 - Monday, 24 Mar
well, i had an ultrasound today and the baby is definitely head down, so i am really curious as to what all those jabs in my right side are now. unfortunately the tech wasn't too keen on my questions and told me to ask my doc, so i think i'm going to schedule a 3d u/s. at least if i'm paying for the u/s i figure they will be more responsive!

storm826 - Friday, 21 Mar
yea there is definitely at times a huge, hard, lump on my right side, i think it must be baby's head. sometimes, like right now, i can feel a strange but light thumping right below my tail bone, its really strange. i cannot wait to see what position the baby is lying in because i really can't picture what limb is where based on the movements i'm feeling!

mommyblessings - Thursday, 20 Mar
Hello!
I havebeen on here for a while now on this site, but just tonight discovered this section! I am thrilled!
So glad to FINALLY see a group of people in my age group talking on here like this! I love it!
I am due June 23, 2008 with our 2nd son! My birthday is June 21! I will be 38!
Our son will be 9 in April. Because of my arthritis... we had to wait until God stabilized my health to try for another one. Our son and me and my husband all kept praying and believing since our son was 3 (when I first got sick) that one day he would see fit to give us another child! We never quit believing and kept the faith and here we are! We are all so very excited! Just saw you on here and seeing our ages being so close, birthdays being so close to due dates... I just had to stop and write and say hello & I hope we can keep in touch! Take Care! :)

sparklyval - Tuesday, 18 Mar
Hi, thanks for your message. Your pregnancy story is totally inspiring and very heart-warming! Many congratulations to you - not long to go, you must be very very excited, as must your daughter!

My eldest daughter is wishing for twins - with two children already I am hoping that God doesn't decide that my family needs doubling in number overnight!
I should get a scan at about 12 weeks or so, which isn't too far away now - I am hoping that will give me a bit of peace of mind that everything is ok.
All the best with the rest of your pregnancy - I am looking forward to seeing the baby pics :)

storm826 - Wednesday, 12 Mar
thanks for the comment; i was beginning to feel like i was doing something wrong and maybe the doctor wasn't telling me, lol. i guess people have this preconception of a big baby/belly=healthy, which is not entirely true at all! not to mention it is impossible to tell how big the baby is compared to the size of the mother's tummy! i get a lot of comments at work too, ppl have just started to ask me if i were expecting over the last few days when i wear tighter shirts!

maryamene - Saturday, 8 Mar
hey.. i gained 10 pounds up till now. i was overweight before i got pregnant. im measuring small and my doc gave me aminos and carbohydrates drips :( have to get 6 drips. so i will just suggest u to drink lots of water. take ure vitamins etc. anyway pls pray 4 me :)

Kerrie78 - Saturday, 8 Mar
Hi.. I've been told I look 'neat' and 'small' but I don't listen. Other people have also said i look like i'm about to give birth! Ignore these people; everyone has a different idea as to what 7 months pregnant looks like. As long as your doctor is happy when he measures you at your appointments, you have nothing to worry about : )
