We're Going to Be Parents????

Oh my gosh, it is so surreal. My husband and I had not been on a vacation together in 5 years. I am a beauty consultant and had earned a chance to go on a Caribbean cruise with our Nationals. I surprised him with the trip, and tacked on a few days in Florida. Even though Hurricane Noel ragged, we made the best of it and decided to "try" for the first time.

I had a feeling that I was pregnant, my breast hurt like never before and I was so unfocused and extremely tired that I would dose off in meetings (they were boring but not that boring). On my way home from work on 11/28/07 , I decided to take a pregnancy test. As I was at the store an employee of my husbands had seen me and I quickly bolted to the register.

One thing I forgot to mention - this summer will mark our 9th wedding anniversary. Therefore everyone kept pestering us " When are you going to have kids, are you every having kids?" Oh I hated to hear that - not that we did not want children, we were comfortable with our life and careers and the "time" never seemed right. Excuse Excuse - right? Ok - I was scared.

Having a child is a huge responsibility, are we going to be "good" parents, do we have enough money to provide for the baby like our parents did for us. Daycare, diapers, sleepless nights. You get the picture. Fast Forward - I get home and my husband is not home yet. I run in and take the test. My pee barely hit the stick and it was POSITIVE! At this point I started to hyperventilate, I gathered myself and sat on the floor in the living room and balled. I am pregnant, oh my gosh- I am pregnant... holy ^&*# I am pregnant! My dog came over and just kept licking my face - I calmed down and then the tears of fear turned into a waterworks of joy!

I hurried up and found a box to put the test in and wrapped it up in pretty paper and a bow. I also included the directions just in case I read it wrong. I put it on the table with a note card and sat eagerly on the couch waiting for Steve. He came home and could tell I was acting a bit weird. I yelled to him - Hi honey welcome home you have present on the table and you need to OPEN IT NOW!!! He told me to chill as he had just walked in. I could not wait so I rant o the kitchen, grabbed the "present" and said here please open this.

He opened the "present" and exclaimed what the heck is this?? I started to cry and then he looked again and said is this for real? I shook my head yes. He never hugged me so hard. I told him to read the directions just in case I did something wrong. I decided to take another test - just to make sure. PREGNANT!! We just cold not hold each other close enough. We celebrated and went to dinner.

So now at this point I want to tell the world but we were only around 8 weeks. I had to tell someone so I called my best friend. Christmas was not too far away and we wanted to wait until then to tell the family. What a great present! Steven and I rewrote "twas the night before Christmas" and the family was stunned. Because we had waited so long everyone thought we were joking. Then they opened up the picture frame that had the 12 week sonogram in it. I should also tell you that this is the first grandchild on both sides, and I am an only child. The excitement raised the roof and mom ran around yelling "a baby" a baby". My dad and grandfather were in tears and just kept rubbing my belly. They embraced Steven and then we all ate dinner.
