Hi!!! My name is Swan! I am 30 years old and pregnant with my 4th & 5th children. By the way, we just found out it was twins at our 18wk appt on 5-8-08!!! At first it was only one baby...lol I have 3 daughters now ages are 11, 9, and 7. I am very excited yet nervous about the birth of these twins.. I recently lost 2 children back to back. One son on June 30, 2006 at 26 weeks due to a twisted umbilical cord and another son at 16 weeks on September 27,2007 due to Trisomy 18. I am so nervous about this pregnancy but I pray and hope that they will come into this world healthy. As for now, all ultrasounds and blood work have come back great. The doctor says that everything is looking fine. Your prayers and comments are greatly appreciated. One Love!!!

6/12/08- THE TWINS ARE DOING GREAT!!! HEARD THEIR HEARTBEATS ON YESTERDAY AT 152 AND 154...DOC IS JUST TELLING ME TO TAKE IT EASY BECAUSE HE WILL BEDREST ME!!!! OR HOSPITALIZE ME!!! HE SAID HE WANTS TO KEEP THEM IN MY STOMACH AT LEAST UNTIL THE 36WK MARK!!! I AM SO EXCITED YET SO EXHAUSTED!!!! BUT GOD IS SOOOO GOOD!!!

8/1/08---WOW WE HAVE MADE IT TO 30 WEEKS...I AM SOOO EXHAUSTED....THESE GIRLS ARE TAKING EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE....WE HAD A 3DAY STAY IN THE HOSPITAL AGAIN LAST WEEKEND...BUT ALL IS WELL NOW...JUST SEVERELY DEHYDRATED AND A UTI THAT I DON'T KNOW WHERE IT CAME FROM...BUT WITH ANTIBIOTICS AND PAIN MEDS WE ARE OK....THE GIRLS WERE MEASURING IN AT 2.10LBS AND 2.5LBS...AT 29WKS...WE GO TO THE DOC AND FOR OUR MONTHLY SCAN ON TUES AUG 5TH...JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL IS STILL WELL WITH THEM....I AM JUST SUPER TIRED AND BACK IS KILLING ME....ANOTHER 7-8 WEEKS TO GO AND THEY WILL BE HERE...I THINK IT IS MORE ANXIETY NOW THAN ANYTHING....WE HAVE ALREADY GOTTEN ALOT OF THEIR THINGS NOW....MY SIS IS HAVING MY BABY SHOWER ON AUG 16TH...I AM EXCITED ABOUT THAT ALSO...I AM MISSING MY DAUGHTERS RIGHT NOW THOUGH....THEY ARE WITH THEIR DAD FOR THE SUMMER AND WONT BE HOME UNTIL AUG 20TH...THEY CALL EVERYDAY...AND BABY GIRL BRIONNA WANTS TO KNOW IF HER SISTERS ARE HERE YET...AND I KEEP HAVING TO EXPLAIN TO HER NOOOO NOT YET....SHE HAS A THING WITH TIME...LOL!!! BUT I AM MISSING MY LIL GALS...THEY ARE SUCH A BIG HELP TO MOMMY....THANK GOD I HAVE A GOOD SOON TO BE HUBBY...LOL HE IS SOOO PATIENT AND SUPPORTIVE AND I KNOW THAT I HAVE BEEN DRIVING HIM INSANE....BUT I LOVE HIM DEARLY....AND HE IS SOOO EXCITED YET SCARED ABOUT THE BIRTH OF HIS FIRST AND ONLY DAUGHTERS....HE WILL BE A GREAT DAD!! I HAVE SOOO MUCH FAITH IN HIM......REGARDLESS IF HE IS NERVOUS OR NOT....I LOVE HIM SOOOO MUCH....SOMETIMES AFTER BEING MARRIED TO THE GIRLS DAD FOR SOOO LONG AND BEING IN A RELATIONSHIP I THOUGHT THAT I WOULD NEVER MEET ANYONE THAT WOULD LOVE ME AS MUCH OR EVEN MORE...BUT GOD IS GOOD....I AM SOOO DESERVANT OF HIM....HE IS MY BEST FRIEND, MY LOVE, MY PARTNER, MY WORLD...BESIDES GOD......BUT WE COMPLIMENT EACHOTHER....JUST WHEN I THOUGHT OK...THIS IS IT...I MEET SOMEONE...AND FALL IN LOVE ALL OVER AGAIN...AND THIS IS A BETTER LOVE...A LOVE WORTH FIGHTING FOR.....WORTH SACRIFICING FOR....AND HERE WE ARE ABOUT TO BE BLESSED WITH 2 MORE BEAUTIFUL, HEALTHY DAUGHTERS.....GOD IS GOOD...AND HIS MERCY AND TRUTH IS EVERLASTING!!! 10/27/080- OK LADIES AS OF TODAY THE TWINS ARE DOING GREAT!! I AM AT WORK AND DAD TOOK THEM TO GO AND GET THEIR 2MONTH OLD SHOTS....I HAD TO BE HERE FOR MONTH END CLOSING...DAMNNN ACCOUNTING....LOL!! BUT I THINK I WOULD OF CRIED TO SEE THEM CRYING....THEY ARE WEIGHING IN AT TWIN A DYRAYA IS 7LBS 4OUNCES 20INCHES AND TWIN B DYRICA IS 9LBS 6OUNCES 21INCHES...SO THEY ARE DOING FINE BUT THEY WILL BE CRANKY AS HELL LATER ON...I AM SOOO EXCITED AND BLESSED TO BE TYPING A MESSAGE LIKE THIS....MUCH LOVE TO ALL OF YOU MOMMIES!!

Hi Swan. I, too, am pregnant with my 5th child. I read your post about your "liar friend". My first pregnancy was twins and they new early on that one of the twins wasn't developing and my body did just absorb it. And they did ultrasounds 3 times a week for the first months to make sure the surviving twin was ok. So that part is possible. But I don't see any way she could go to the hospital and they could tell her in the ER that one twin had brain damage. How the heck would they know that???

Swan i think u shud get ur friend sum serious help, coz the girl is obviously cryin out for sumthin more than normal people can giv. My mother was havin twins and at 24 wks due to complications one of them died. They did not seek to induce, as the other twin had a healthy heartbeat they just played the wait an c game. My brothers was born in june 2001, his twin very small and not breathing for obvious reasons was passed right along side him. This was a very traumatic thing for my mother. The body would not absorb a fetus. Ur fiend has major issues, things like these are emotionally taxing on the women they happen to, and for ur friend to play for sympathy like that is wrong!!! I'd tel her that u'v rumbled her that u spoke to doctors about her scenario, and also inform her that the day u called the hospital to check she was ok like any caring friend wud that they didn't even know who she was. Then i'd recommend a gud dose of councelling.

Hey Swan,

I checked with a dear friend of mine who is a NEO NATAL/ NICU nurse at a large hospital. She has worked there for 9 years in all sorts of intensive care situations focused on infants. She herself lost a baby at 25 weeks. The baby had died inside of her and she was scheduled to have a DNC once they found out. The night before her body rejected the dead fetus and she technically mis-carried it. When I told her about your friend, she said that a. it's not possible to know you are having twins unless it's confirmed via amnio, u/s or doppler. A person with previous experience with twins may know based on how they are growing and a mother who's been PG before may think they know based on how much faster they've been growing. and b. she said the odds of carrying the one twin to full term with a dead fetus inside is highly unlikely. The body would reject the dead fetus- it does not turn into tissue- which would lead to pre-term labor- where both babies would be forced out of the womb. Meaning the viable twin wouldn't survive as it's too young and underdeveloped at 21 weeks.

She did include that she is not a medical doctor is an RN and stranger things happen. But in her experience she would have to say you have person who is telling some pretty big whoppers on your hands.....

It is technically possible to leave a dead twin in while the other one grows. They cant remove it or it might risk the other fetus. How did she know she was having twins if she hadn't been to an OB? Thats the part that sounds suspect to me, why would she lie in the first place? It seems like there are some way deeper issues involved if that is the case. I don't know I'd give her the benefit of the doubt, but then again I don't know her. I did see an episode of special delivery where a woman was in for a C section and one of her twins had died at 19 or so weeks, but the other one survived. So it is possible.

Because her babies are in separate sacs, she would mis- carry the dead baby it would pass through her like any other person with a dead fetus. She would have passed baby out. She's just basically a 2 face liar. They would leave surviving baby, do an U/S to make sure there was no remains left behind i.e placenta etc. Im a very straight forward person and would have to point out her errors to her in what shes saying. You've been there, don't listen to her crap stay well away.

Hello i just read your post in the forum thing, my friend was pregnant with identical twin boys and one died in the womb and the surviving baby absorbed him this was checked by monthly scans. But the survivng twin had a healthy heart beat and no risk. If her surviving twin has a really bad heart rate they would have kept her in for observation and bed rest. Im not to sure on the story especially if shes a compulsive liar. Its unfair of her to make up such a tragic story because that sometimes rarely happens to women. Also if she went into the ER they automatically register you as there before you are seen to. Also she knows shes exactly 21weeks but hasn't seen an OB. Im puzzeled by it all as much as you. I was told about vanishing twin syndrome when I was prego with my triplets last year, but my doctor said it would happen on or before 10weeks, not this far into the pregnancy. I think they would monitor her and the baby very closely so the twin that is still alive would not have any harmful effects from a deceased brother/sister. I'm going to google this because now I'm curious, and for her to throw something like this in your face if it turned out to be untrue is unacceptable. I would drop her in a heartbeat, like you haven't been through enough......and congrats on your twins!

Vanishing twin syndrome was first recognized in 1945. Vanishing twin syndrome is when one of a set of twin/multiple fetuses disappears in the uterus during pregnancy. This is the result of a miscarriage of one twin/multiple. The fetal tissue is absorbed by the other twin/multiple, placenta or the mother. This gives the appearance of a �vanishing twin�.
