Too big? My tummy at 20 weeks 4 days (twins)

Hi everyone! I try to get on here everyday to see what I can learn from everyone else. This is my first pregnancy so everything is very new to me. I'm living in Japan right now and so I feel like my experience is unlike what I keep reading about. Things are done differently here!

I usually go to a clinic to see a doctor every 2 or 3 weeks and I have been able to see my babies every time since my 5th week of pregnancy. Although at that time I only saw ONE! I was very surprised to see there were actually TWO at my 9 week visit. I don't know the difference between the words "sonogram", "ultrasound" and "echo"???? My first visits to the clinic here were always done with a camera that went inside me. It started to change around 15 weeks. Now, thankfully, they use the gel & probe on my stomach. *smile* They give me pictures of the babies every time I go and they even surprised me with the color picture below.

Nothing has been like what I have read in books. I wasn't told to take any multi vitamins or folic acid. Maybe this is because Japanese people have a healthy diet in the first place?? Nonetheless, I have been taking iron, folic acid and vitamins. I would like to have these babies in the States where I will be more comfortable so I will fly home in a month!!!! My husband is Japanese and will stay in Japan for the next few months until they're ready to come out!

I hardly ever meet other American women married to Japanese men here in Japan. (It's usually the other way around.) Is there anyone else out there like me who is living in a foreign country (possibly to a foreigner) and pregnant?

These are our twins at 12 weeks 3 days

Here is one of our twins at 15 weeks 4 days

Hi there.
No I hvent put on much but its all belly. I actually lost quite a bit of weight in the first few weeks of pregnancy this time round so thats a bit of a bonus. The last scan I had B1 had his head in my pelvis and B2s head was right up under my ribs.
Its all so exciting. And even more for you as this is your first.
Anyway take care. :)

Hi, just read your page. I live in Houston and I've had 6 ultrasounds. So, I've gotten to see my baby everytime I went to the doc too! My first visit to the doc I had the vaginal ultrasound too so I don't think its much different in Japan than it is here. Your 'colored' ultrasound of the baby is a 3D ultrasound. I'm having one at 32 weeks so I can see just what my baby will look like! Unfortunately they don't give me pictures of the baby everytime I go. They put the pics on a CD and I have to print them myself. I wish they'd just give them to me. It really surprised me that you were not told to take prenatal vitamins. Even people with a healthy diet must take them! Your not getting to big by the way. Your very average in size for a mother of twins.

Hi SettlegirlinJapan!

Hey Again! The part your brother lives in is about 2 1/2 hrs North of me and you're very right about the weather here.. HOT HOT AND HUMID a terrible combo. Thats interesting about a lot of companies not being exposed to cpu's but that was a few yrs ago I guess many Americans weren't really into the internet like we are today, then either. I mean I was lol but most people I knew couldn't really navigate through it or didn't trust it one. My child's father is Married (black male in AirForce) and his wife is Japanese. We concieved our child while they were seperated, but they reconciled and I am left pregnant. Of course it is a lot more to the story. A lot of dishonesty involved on his part, but I don't believe in Abo... i think you should be married but thats not my situation. Either way he is supportive to us and I have to be strong for babygirl. Tough position I wouldn't wish on anyone. Imagine the emotional toll it has on me from day to day being alone. I guess I'm young and I have a lot to learn about men and making better decisions! Take care and be safe!!

My dr gave me this long list of myths about pregnancy. Painting is one of them. As long as I have proper ventilation, he told me to have fun. =) I'm enjoying it. We're moving about 45 mins away to downtown Nashville. My boyfriend's from there, so we'll be a lot closer to his life. I'm excited about it! We have the boys taking care of the big stuff Sat, so we'll be there for good this weekend. I can't wait!

Your page looks different now. WOW that is so cool being over there. Newport News is in Virginia. I took Japanese in middle school and i just expanded on it myself but I don't enough to hold a good convo lol. BUT i just envy you so much! HOW R THOSE BABIES doing. I imagine it would be frustrating not being able to speak the language to ur doc - but it is a hard language NO JOKE!! They are unique people I love their culture. And I can tell from what I see on TV they are like lite yrs ahead of us! K.I.T! nice talking to ya!

Hey! Hope you're doing well! I've been painting and moving and will continue to be until the end of this weekend. Well, I'm more like supervising, but you know!

Hello, I just looked at your page and had to contact you. I lived in Higashi-Funabashi in Japan many years ago and still have very strong connections with people there. I teach Japanese in a high school in Australia and have been to Japan about 20 times since I was 15. I have visited many other countries too, but only ever lived in Australia and Japan. I found out that I am having identical boys - which is so exciting. They are so active - kicking all the time. People are amazed at the size of my tummy and I'm only a bit over half way. I am not a big person to begin with and weighed about 52 kgs when I fell pregnant. Now I weigh about 62kgs! The Dr said I should expect to put on another 10 kgs before the boys arrive! That kinda scares me!! I have my next Dr appointment next week - hopefully the boys are still growing at the same rate. Your u/s pictures looked great!
Take care.

I think our bellies do look ver similar. You're def NOT too big! No such thing with a twin belly! I've noticed looking at the pics on this site that every belly looks very different. In my What to Expect book, they show 3 very diff belly types at 5 and 8 months. Mine def starts right under my boobs and goes all the way down to the top of my pubic bone. It looks like yours is doing the same. I think I'm just lucky to start this process with some pretty wide hips, so I hope they'll have plently of room to grow! I've been SO hungry the last few days! I've always eaten small meals at few hour increments, but this is just getting ridiculous! I figure I need what I'm craving, so I'm just going with it. It's supposed to be normal to gain 2 pounds/week with twins, but I'm not gonna worry if I gain more. I'm happy. What can I say?

As for my age, let me just say that this def was not a planned pregnancy. I have 3 semesters left for my undergrad and plan to attend law school next. I've always worked while in school, so I'm used to being very busy -- which is great. I can't imagine how busy I'll be doing those things with twins! I've always been a bit of a party girl as well. I started very young, so when I was 18, I'd already done a lot of things you're supposed to do at that age. I never even wanted kids. In high school, I was voted most likely to never get married and have kids, and I was proud of that! Meeting Mike changed my life in so many ways, and the thought of children entered my mind while we were apart last summer. I know I've found my true love.. I've been lucky enough to travel A LOT for my age, including one month in France last summer studying abroad. My last week was spent sight seeing in Paris to practice my French, and then I went to Amsterdam to celebrate my 22nd birthday. It was amazing. I'm really happy I did all that before becoming pregnant. I'll always have dreams of travel and look forward to taking my family with me. I would love to live in Europe for a couple years with young children. The education system is much more advanced, and I'm quite obsessed with my children not being spoiled Americans. They must appreciate all cultures, even if they don't understand them. What better way to teach them than to immerse them in another culture, another language? I'm the 1st of all my friends to have babies. I've never really thought about it being common among girls my age. I have heard that there is a baby boom happening right now, but I honestly haven't thought much about it. I do think I'm mature for my age and am glad it's me rather than my friends or even my older sister. I believe I have the strongest possible relationship and a plan in place for my future that will ensure my family's success! I'll never stop going after my own dreams. My degrees are so much more important now than ever before. Although I have to take a break and reevaluate my situation, I'll never stop going forward with my dreams. I'm sure even those will change slightly with time and what is best for my family. I look forward to having 18 year old twins at age 40! Hopefully, they won't follow the trends of today and be driven enough to move on and move out. That way Mike and I will have plenty of time to ourselves for the rest of our lives.. Oh, I'm a planner. Things never go as planned, obviously as I'm prego with twins, but it never hurts. It does feel good to know that I'll be able to be the sole provider for my family in no more than 5 years. I don't ever want them to be in daycare. The next few years are going to be difficult, but there a lot of people who want to help. I know we can do it! Hope you're having a lovely day. I'm going to eat AGAIN and hope I didn't go into too much detail! =)
