I'm 21 weeks pregnant and VERY excited! Our 2 sons are 8 and 6, so we're kind of starting over if you will. We've been told it's going to be a GIRL! If the tech is wrong, this baby will be in a lavender room and will be wearing PINK for the 1st 6 months of his life! LOL
OK, so now I'm 31 weeks...WOW! Feeling pretty good w/the exception of mild heartburn and NOT SLEEPING!! Getting really excited for this little one to make her way!
I'm so bad at updating my page. At 38 weeks now and can't wait to meet our little one! I guess I should start packing my hospital bag. LOL I'll do that today. I feel pretty good w/the exception of fighting off a head cold/conjestion. Good 'ole New England weather! Hope everyone is feeling well....can't wait to hear all the different birth stories!! Hugs!
Type of delivery: Vaginal (with pain relief)
Duration of labor: 11 hours
Weight @ birth: 7 lbs
Length @ birth: 20 inches
I had my prenatal appt on Monday, Dec 17th. Still NO change - 1 1/2 cm dilated, 50% effaced and she was still at -3 station. I was already scheduled to be induced Tuesday morning at 9am, but was extremely hesitant with all my `numbers`. I was wondering at that point if I was just being selfish and wanting her out b/c I was so uncomfortable & with the holidays coming up. Well, Monday morning, I started to lose my plug, so that kept me thinking that things were advancing (a tiny bit), so we made the decision to keep my induction.
Dr. Klein said that he`d like to change the plan of induction & try to get me into the hospital THAT night (Monday) to place a pill under my cervix to soften it up a bit. He said this would occur every 4 hours and will try it 4 times. He said if it didn`t work, then I could go home if I wanted or continue with Pitocin. That made me feel better - knowing I could just go home and wait it out `naturally`.
Well, we went into the hospital at 8pm. I was scared, nervous, anxious. They finally hooked me up to an IV and gave me the 1st pill at 10:20 pm. Twenty minutes later, I was having contractions. They got to be 1-2 minutes apart. I finally asked after a few hours if that was the pill was supposed to do, they said yes (stupid me thought it was just to soften the cervix). Well, I was in a lot of pain and they gave me a shot of Nubain in my butt & a little in my IV. That helped with the pain for literally 1 hour! At 2am, they checked me again. I was the SAME - NO CHANGES!! I was so depressed. At this point they told me that I was contracting too hard and too fast, so they would not do another pill. The pain and contractions were getting worse. They decided to do another pill at around 4 am. By 6am, I was in tears, asking for another shot of Nubain. The nurse said to try to hold off as long as I could b/c they would only give me 1 more. Well, not knowing if I was going to be in labor another 2, or even 12 hours, I grit my teeth.
I grit them for another hour until the doctor came in to check me again. I was 3 cm at this piont! `YAH`, I thought. Now, I can stay and have this baby. Thankfully, the doctor came in a few minutes later and asked how I was. They told him I was cm and he said `Why don`t we get her an epidural`. I was so happy, BUT they had to give me another IV first. Finally, at 7:5am, the anesthesiologist walked in w/my epi. I was so happy to see him. It took a while, but he finally got thorugh his questions and started the needle. Said it would take 15 minutes to kick in. Well, it only did the left side of my body. They had me flipping this way and that until the head anesthesiologist came in and said he was going to give me a special cocktail. I liked the sounds of that at the moment! By the time he got that extra medicine in, I was ready to push (even though my water didn`t break yet). I had a `bulging bag` as they put it. Well, 5 minutes later, it BURST on it`s own. I told the nurse and everyone started getting on the phones and running around. I could feel her head coming down and all I wanted to do was push. They told me not to - I had to wait for the doctor. I tell you, if I didn`t have the epidural, there would have been NO WAY I could hold that baby in. The doctor came in and said I could begin pushing. Three pushes later, she was here!!!!!!!!
She is just so beautiful and we feel so blessed to have completed our family. for those who are 38, 39, 40 or even 41 weeks pregnant, hang in there. I know it`s easy for me to say now since my little one is out, BUT your time will come soon enough. I wish you all the best with your deliveries and hope you all have healthy babies!! :-)
