BIRTH STORY
I went in Friday, Oct 26 for my induction. I got to the hospital by 12:30pm, and was in my room and Cervidil inserted by 2pm. I was initially dilated a fingertip, and 50% effaced, having sporadic contractions. Walked about 40 miles that night! At 4:30 am on Oct 27, I was 1-2 cm dilated and 80% effaced. Cervidil was removed and Pitocin started. I was having contractions at that time, but they were not regular, and the strength varied greatly. At 10am I was dilated 2-3 cm and 90% effaced. I was having very painful contractions by that point, and they were having trouble establishing a good contraction pattern- they were either almost non-stop and unbearable, or too light and/or far apart. My OB broke my water at this point, and `stretched` my cervix to try to help things along. He said I had band or ridge on my cervix, almost like scar tissue, that was impeding dilation. I was in so much pain at this point that my mother said my eyes were rolling back in my head and I really had the shakes. Just couldn`t take anymore at this point, and requested something for pain and an epidural. They gave me some IV pain medicine to help until the epidural was inserted. It really did help with the pain, but made me very loopy! The epidural wasn`t bad at all, mainly due to the IV pain med first- made the insertion of the epidural easy and stress-free! I really didn`t want an epidural, but OMG, it was fantastic! Don`t be afraid of it girls! It helps so much, I loved my anesthesiologist, he was so kind and understanding. At 11am my OB checked me again, and I was 4-5 cm dilated and 100% effaced, baby`s head wasn`t coming down, but I had a very good contraction pattern going on. I was able to sleep thanks to the epidural. They did come in and put a urinary catheter in, which I absolutely hated. At 2pm, I was checked again, no progress. Baby was having some decelerations in her heartbeat, but they weren`t frequent, and no one acted concerned. At 4:20pm, or somewhere in that general time frame, the Dr checked me again, and I was still only 5cm dilated. He said baby felt small, and he just could not understand why her head would not come down any further, and she was also having the decrease in her heartbeat at times. He said he really felt it was time to get her out, and suspected that her head was in a bad position and I would never be able to have her vaginally. The decision was made to do the C-Section. I was disappointed, after all the pain and effort already endured, but was more concerned that the baby be born safely. The C-Section was the most surreal experience of my life. My mom went in with me. You would not believe the amount of pulling, pushing and tugging involved in a C-Section! Crazy! The same anesthesiologist was present during my C-Section that did my epidural- Dr Estrada, I love you!- he was fantastic, and really made it a good experience. They finally pulled the baby out at 5:04 pm, first thing I heard was, `time 1704, one nuchal cord, two nuchal cord`. Dr Estrada told me that baby had cord wrapped around her neck twice. My mom was bawling her eyes out, and the first thing I thought, and said, was `She`s so beautiful!`. When they cleaned her up a little, wrapped her, and brought her to be beside of me, that`s when it hit me, that I was a mommy! That`s when I cried. Dr Estrada asked if he could take pictures for us, so my mom gave him the camera and he took pictures of us. I can`t say enough about that anesthesiologist! My mom and I were saying how pretty she was, but of course we may be a little biased, and he said, `No you`re not biased; she is beautiful, and I hope her eyes are the same color as yours, because they are beautiful!`. They were sewing me up by this time. My mom went with nurse and baby up to the nursery, for the weighing and measuring and all of that. My OB later talked to my mom, and told her the baby was posterior, meaning her face was facing forward instead backward like it was supposed to, he also said that her head was tilted to a funny position, and just couldn`t fit through the bones like that, even though she was so small. The pain after a C-Section is horrible. The labor is horrible. But, it is worth every misery, and every pain, she was worth it all! I can`t believe that I can love someone so much, so quickly, and all I want to do is look at her and touch her, every second of every day.

Hello all! I'm 20 years old and expecting my first baby, a little girl. Can't wait, getting so close now. I've added some pictures, so be sure to check them out!

OK, had my OB appointment today- now 36 weeks 3 days. My doctor was delivering a baby, so they asked me if I would mind seeing the nurse practitioner instead, so I said sure. Big mistake! She did not even check my belly! Did not feel for size and position of baby or anything. She did a pelvic, and really hurt me. I'm not dilated, I'm not effaced, and I haven't lost my mucous plug. I am having lots of contractions. She sent me for a NST, which I didn't understand, as baby is moving fine, her heart rate was good, and I'm not dilated. Well, anyway, my NST was good. Baby moved a lot, and I had 3 good contractions in 10 minutes, which she tolerated very well. Next time I will wait for my OB, even if it means waiting a long time! I'm just disappointed, as I am not dilated at all! I know that really doesn't mean anything, but still. My OB had told me last time that he was going to induce me 7-10 days early, and of course since I didn't get to see him, I didn't get to discuss this with him today. I guess all I can do is wait till next week, and hope I can get some clarification.

Saw my OB today- confirmed that baby has dropped and is firmly engaged in my pelvis. My induction has been scheduled for Oct 26th. He says he will use Cervadil, possibly twice, to help my cervix "ripen"- I am not dilated at present, but am 50% effaced, and "soft". I am so excited to finally have a date for my induction! I have been miserable, especially since I have had a toothache this week, and am now on antibiotics, just in case it is infected. My dentist won't pull the tooth until I deliver, so my OB thinks it is best to get it done- I will be 38 weeks and 4 days on induction day. He had planned on inducing me anyway, because I live so far from the hospital, and it thinks the baby may be pretty large (I hope he is wrong on that one!). I have everything ready for this baby, and am so excited that she is going to be here next week!
