Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts and comments and for keeping us in mind while we were in the hospital. I had my baby, Brady he was 5 weeks early and I developed a disease that hospitalized me for 16 days. I am posting this so that any of you who plan to have more children can be aware of this very rare but serious disease and the signs and symptoms to look for. My doctors didn't catch it, they should have because I had every sign and symptom... but they didn't so that caused me to have additional surgeries and time in the hospital. It has been a very traumatic experience - I have always been healthy and never been hospitalized in my life. I hope you will all pass this information on to anyone you know who is pregnant or plans to become pregnant.

This site has some good information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acute_fatty_liver_of_pregnancy

I had been sick for about 9 days prior to going to the emergency room. I had seen and called my doctors all week and they continued to tell me that it was just a bug even though I had almost 100% of the symptoms of this rare disease, and they never checked my liver. My blood sugar was very low (51) my blood pressure was high, and they didn't even take my temperature at my last visit. I had not felt the baby move in 2 hours on the 25th of June so I called my OB/GYN and told them I was going to the emergency room. When I got there I began feeling sicker and sicker and I could hardly hold myself up.

After they checked my blood and liver they flew me in a helicopter to St. Joe's hospital (AZ) and took the baby via c-section around 2:00 a.m. on the 26th. From that point I have pretty much no memory until the 4th of July. My sodium levels were so high I was having major hallucinations and I was pretty much sedated, on a ventilator, feeding tube, etc. Every day I learn more and more about what I don't remember happening. They had to do a second surgery shortly after the c-section because I was bleeding internally and my blood was not clotting and thank God they were able to repair it (it was a capillary in one of my stomach muscles).

Anyway, from there they took me to Banner Good Sam (another hospital) because my liver was not getting better, my kidneys were shutting down and my lungs were only working because I was on a ventilator. The main reason they took me to Good Sam was because they put me on the transplant list. When I got there, the doctors did some things differently and I started to improve each day, and now, after 16 days in the hospital here I am home.

I have not been given any indication on what my full recover time will be yet, and I am still connected to a machine for a large wound I still have on my stomach from exploratory surgery they had to do because I wouldn't stop bleeding and my blood wouldn't clot. I have an appointment Wednesday with the liver specialist and hope to find out more.

I have a c-section incision healing, a vertical incision that goes about 4 inches above my belly button, and a large wound in the middle of the two... and you know what, it is ok because I have a beautiful baby boy and my own life and that is all that matters!

Brady has been a wonderful baby so far. Daddy had to bring him home from the hospital and take on everything on his own for his first 7 nights. He did a wonderful job and is still. Brady gets up about every 3.5 hours to eat and doesn't fuss much unless you are changing him or giving him a bath. Thank God we made it.

God bless you and all of your babies.

Tara

Here are some new pictures!!!

"I'm hungry Daddy"Yummy! What are you doing to me???Ahhhh... much betterSportin' Daddy's Colors (SouthwesAirlines)

Here are the 3D/4D pictures - they turned out so good! He is still measuring big, EDD by his size is 7/10/07 according to them... that is 18 days earlier - we'll see what my doc says at my next ultrasound! I think they took like 40 pictures, these are the best ones. There are a couple where he is sticking his tongue out and smiling! He was pretty still most of the time though - my sweet little boy. It was awesome!

Here is my baby shower invitation (some specifics omitted). I ordered them from polkadotdesign.com & they should be in on Friday! I think they are so cute... Can't wait to send them out!

I scheduled an appointment for my 4D ultrasound today... it will be May 18th at 4:00, can't wait! http://desertviewultrasound.com/index.html

The furniture came in Thursday, Kyle painted and got the room all ready and now it is all set up! Here are some pics. we still need the bedding accessories to put on the walls etc. and we are going to get some letters and paint them to match the bedding (Brady).

armoire dresser (doubles as changing table then we'll get the hutch later)

Kyle found some baby clothes he couldn't resist buying!!!

had my ultrasound today and the baby boy was cooperative! ! I have to go back for another ultrasound before my appointment next week because they weren't able to get a clear picture of the kidneys... they said there was nothing to worry about - and I will be happy to see my baby boy again!

Wow, it has been a while since I have updated! I keep a journal bedside that I write in about once a week...

Anyway, all is going well still! I have really started to grow, I think I have gained 8 lbs. so far! I had gained 6 at my last appointment, but you can see a drastic difference in my belly now - I will post an 18 week pic this weekend. I had some soreness in my lower abdomen and lower back last weekend, we had done a lot of shopping, then went on a 1.5 mile walk... I called the doc and she wanted me to come in the next day if I wasn't feeling better, but I was! This week I have noticed some swelling in my feet and ankles! Has anyone else had this problem? I guess I won't be able to wear heels. I sure hope it doesn't get worse as my pregnancey progresses, please let me know if you know anything on the subject, I will be asking my doc on the 9th when I go in for the BIG ultrasound to find out the sex of my bean!!!! Can't wait!

We ordered our furniture at the beginning of the week, it is awesome, we got it at a specialty store called Room 4 Baby, but they also carry it at USA baby and other stores. We ordered the three pieces in the picture (convertible crib, large dresser and armoire) and we may order the hutch and night stand at a later date. The furniture is pretty expensive, but made of solid maple wood & very sturdy. We loved it, oh and we ordered it in the walnut color, if you click on the lower right you can download the pamphlet and there are the colors.

I won't be able to narrow down my bedding choices until I know if the bean is a boy or a girl... but we like these two so far:

Here is the bedding we FINALLY decided on:

I hope everyone is feeling well and as excited as we are! XOXX

01/10/07 update: I had my 3 month apponitment this morning and everything went great! We got to hear the baby's heartbeat (150) and the doctor said everything looked great. I only gained 1 lb. since my last visit which I though was great - but doc said I should have gained 2 - I'm sure I'll make up for it! Everything is on track, and I have almost finished up trimester #1! Woo Hoo!!!

I hope everyone is getting over the m/s if they had it, good luck with everything and keep in touch!

Hi there! I'm Tara. My husband and I got married on April 12, 2003 and we weren't ready for kids until now! We like to take things slow, we were dating 2 1/2 years before we got married & knew each other for many years prior to that.

Our wedding day, April 12, 2003

I am pregnant for the first time, due date is July 28th, 2007. We are oh so excited and loving every minute of it. I had an early u/s because I wasn't sure about my due date. I am very relieved to say it went well, & everything looked good. Wow, the tears sure flowed when I saw that little bean & the heartbeat on the screen.

I haven't had any sickness, just tiredness and tender breasts (ouch!).

If you want to share experiences, or if you have the same due date, send me a message! Also, if you are from AZ!!!

Tara

My myspace is set to private, but you can add me as a friend if you want to keep in touch http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=3795156

Camping in Aug. '06

I am a little worried about how my dogs will react when the baby comes... I think the Mastiff will be good, he is very calm and sweet, but my Great Dane (180 lbs.) acts like he is still a puppy even though he is almost 3! He is kind of rough and doesn't realize that he is BIG! He also chews up anything and everything that I leave in reach (that means coffee table, counter tops, etc.) and takes it out the doggy door. He has been getting in a lot of trouble and I hate to think that he wouldn't be safe around the baby... it makes me cry to even think about it :(. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

Well I am sure at some point in the future we will definitely take you up on that offer! Thank you so much, we are so in love with her!

I work in the Customer Baggage Resolution office part time now...when I used to work full time I worked in Purchasing!

Where do you friends work? My aunt is the VP of inflight, so I know alot of the people there too!

megan15425 - Thursday, 29 May

Allison - Monday, 26 May
My cousin's wife got her Master's in Public Administration and I am familiar with Western Int'l University. That's great for you!!! Yeah, the economy really is taking a nose dive, isn't it??? $4/gallon for gas now??? It's CRAZY!!! I hope things get better soon.

Yes, I suppose the pay for teachers with a Master's isn't so bad considering the hours and the time off...I loved the kids when I subbed, but that was easy- I was only in a given classroom for one day or a week at the most. I saw how much work the full time teachers have to do and it's a lot! I think I would be good going into the profession now b/c I'd be fresh and not "burned out" like some teachers who have been doing it for many years are. It's easy to see how that can happen...98% of the kids are great, but that other 2% can be QUITE a challenge lol! How cute that Brady went to a birthday party!!! Was it his first one??? Too bad he didn't sleep in...What an early riser he is!!!!

pepper1376 - Wednesday, 21 May
WOW! What a birth story! So sorry you had to go through all that! Congrats on your baby. He's SO cute.

Allison - Tuesday, 20 May
Well, I LOVE the octopus costume. It's adorable! How great that you have a trusted family member to watch Brady!!! And CONGRATS on getting your Master's. What did you get it in? Did you attend ASU or U of Phoenix? I am hoping to start next summer on my Master's in Education combo teaching certificate at ASU so I can have the credentials if I eventually want to teach full time instead of just subbing, plus with my Master's I'd get paid more right off the bat, not that you are EVER going to get rich being a teacher, but that's not why one would choose the profession, right? lol Will your current employer pay you more now with your advanced degree? Wow- 1 to 1 and half hours commute! UGH!!!! You like the people you work with, though, don't you? That can make all the difference...

Huma-A - Monday, 19 May
oh my God i love ur wallpaper... those big teethless smiles are soooooooooo adorable!!!!!!!!!! u are so good at taking studio pics, i'm sure he will cherish those when he grows up!

Huma - Monday, 19 May

dennisse - Sunday, 18 May
Hi Tara,

Your baby boy is beautiful! congratulations! I read your story abut the delivery! I'm so sorry that all that happen to you! I wan's aware of that serious illness! I'm so happy everything is great with you now!! dennisse

Allison - Sunday, 18 May
BTW- Brady's adorable Halloween costume??? It's an octopus, isn't it??? It's so cute!!! Where did you get it??? I want one or something from the same store for Donvoan next year!!!!

Allison - Sunday, 18 May
Tara, I don't blame you for only having one child, under the circumstances. I was so scared for you- we all were. It was like nothing I had ever heard of- what you had with your liver. I wouldn't have another baby if I were you either. I think these big guys of ours are going to be GREAT only children and think of all the things we can do for them only having one child. I believe too that God makes choices for us and gives us signs and we need to tune in and listen to them!!!! I also think it is harder for our sons to do EVERYTHING b/c they are so big. Hey, it takes a lot of energy to hoist all that weight around ha ha ha! If you've noticed, the more agile kids tend to be the smaller boys and the girls, who are naturally smaller anyway. We're just thrilled Donovan is turning out to be bigger than average- the men in my family are big and my husband is tall. So he won't be a world class gymnast lol!!! Who cares???? How are you feeling these days??? How is work? Who do you leave Brady with??? You've got family around, don't you? Have a good weekend...xoxo

Allison - Friday, 16 May
Hey Tara! Donovan is doing an "army crawl" lol and he gets up on his hands and knees and rocks back and forth, so the crawling is coming soon. The little sinker can get where he wants to be, so that's all that matters. I didn't crawl at all and went straight to walking, so all babies are different. At 9 months, D was close to 22 pounds and 30 inches long, so very similar to Brady in size- BIG! I haven't thought about a birthday party. D's August 3rd birthday falls 2 days after my Dad's, so maybe we'll do a combo. I'm sure we'll have a cake made and my Mom will buy tons of presents lol and we will take lots of pictures!!! It'll only be family, though. I didn't grow up out here, so my friends are not in the area and that's okay. He's only one. When he gets to be school age, then I will be organzing parties or take 5 of them to Disneyland or something like that, esp. since we are not having any more kids! This is it for us, so we can afford to really splurge. It's really nice!!!! Who is coming to Brady's party??? He sure looks like a happy and pleasant fellow!!! xoxo

Allison - Thursday, 15 May
Hey Tara! Well, let's see.... D can say Mama, Dada, Nonna. He can get up on fours, roll both ways front to back, and can get up on fours and rock back and forth. He doesn't say bye bye and wave yet. I guess they all do different things at different times...Oh, and he's got four teeth, two upper and two bottom...My Dad calls him "Four Peaks" lol! Hee hee...a birthday party for Brady. How cute!!!!

ambrielles mommy - Friday, 25 April
thank you yes her cheeks are enormous

ambrielles mommy - Wednesday, 23 April

Allison - Saturday, 12 April
Hey Tara! What's up? I'm loving being a Mom and I love the ages our boys are at now. A couple of our old pregnant friends are at it again- Huma and Sarahmh!!! Oh my goodness are they going to be busy with two little ones. Donovan is enough for me!!! Not looking forward to the heat, but I AM looking forward to the "snowbirds'" departure so we can have the city to ourselves for a few months lol! Hope you're feeling and doing well. Brady's such a cutie and a big, healthy boy!!! xoxo
