Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts and comments and for keeping us in mind while we were in the hospital. I had my baby, Brady he was 5 weeks early and I developed a disease that hospitalized me for 16 days. I am posting this so that any of you who plan to have more children can be aware of this very rare but serious disease and the signs and symptoms to look for. My doctors didn't catch it, they should have because I had every sign and symptom... but they didn't so that caused me to have additional surgeries and time in the hospital. It has been a very traumatic experience - I have always been healthy and never been hospitalized in my life. I hope you will all pass this information on to anyone you know who is pregnant or plans to become pregnant.
This site has some good information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acute_fatty_liver_of_pregnancy
I had been sick for about 9 days prior to going to the emergency room. I had seen and called my doctors all week and they continued to tell me that it was just a bug even though I had almost 100% of the symptoms of this rare disease, and they never checked my liver. My blood sugar was very low (51) my blood pressure was high, and they didn't even take my temperature at my last visit. I had not felt the baby move in 2 hours on the 25th of June so I called my OB/GYN and told them I was going to the emergency room. When I got there I began feeling sicker and sicker and I could hardly hold myself up.
After they checked my blood and liver they flew me in a helicopter to St. Joe's hospital (AZ) and took the baby via c-section around 2:00 a.m. on the 26th. From that point I have pretty much no memory until the 4th of July. My sodium levels were so high I was having major hallucinations and I was pretty much sedated, on a ventilator, feeding tube, etc. Every day I learn more and more about what I don't remember happening. They had to do a second surgery shortly after the c-section because I was bleeding internally and my blood was not clotting and thank God they were able to repair it (it was a capillary in one of my stomach muscles).
Anyway, from there they took me to Banner Good Sam (another hospital) because my liver was not getting better, my kidneys were shutting down and my lungs were only working because I was on a ventilator. The main reason they took me to Good Sam was because they put me on the transplant list. When I got there, the doctors did some things differently and I started to improve each day, and now, after 16 days in the hospital here I am home.
I have not been given any indication on what my full recover time will be yet, and I am still connected to a machine for a large wound I still have on my stomach from exploratory surgery they had to do because I wouldn't stop bleeding and my blood wouldn't clot. I have an appointment Wednesday with the liver specialist and hope to find out more.
I have a c-section incision healing, a vertical incision that goes about 4 inches above my belly button, and a large wound in the middle of the two... and you know what, it is ok because I have a beautiful baby boy and my own life and that is all that matters!
Brady has been a wonderful baby so far. Daddy had to bring him home from the hospital and take on everything on his own for his first 7 nights. He did a wonderful job and is still. Brady gets up about every 3.5 hours to eat and doesn't fuss much unless you are changing him or giving him a bath. Thank God we made it.
God bless you and all of your babies.
Tara
Here are some new pictures!!!

Here are the 3D/4D pictures - they turned out so good! He is still measuring big, EDD by his size is 7/10/07 according to them... that is 18 days earlier - we'll see what my doc says at my next ultrasound! I think they took like 40 pictures, these are the best ones. There are a couple where he is sticking his tongue out and smiling! He was pretty still most of the time though - my sweet little boy. It was awesome!

Here is my baby shower invitation (some specifics omitted). I ordered them from polkadotdesign.com & they should be in on Friday! I think they are so cute... Can't wait to send them out!

I scheduled an appointment for my 4D ultrasound today... it will be May 18th at 4:00, can't wait! http://desertviewultrasound.com/index.html

The furniture came in Thursday, Kyle painted and got the room all ready and now it is all set up! Here are some pics. we still need the bedding accessories to put on the walls etc. and we are going to get some letters and paint them to match the bedding (Brady).

Crib (turns into toddler bed then full sized bed) bedding

armoire dresser (doubles as changing table then we'll get the hutch later)

Kyle found some baby clothes he couldn't resist buying!!!
had my ultrasound today and the baby boy was cooperative! ! I have to go back for another ultrasound before my appointment next week because they weren't able to get a clear picture of the kidneys... they said there was nothing to worry about - and I will be happy to see my baby boy again!

Wow, it has been a while since I have updated! I keep a journal bedside that I write in about once a week...
Anyway, all is going well still! I have really started to grow, I think I have gained 8 lbs. so far! I had gained 6 at my last appointment, but you can see a drastic difference in my belly now - I will post an 18 week pic this weekend. I had some soreness in my lower abdomen and lower back last weekend, we had done a lot of shopping, then went on a 1.5 mile walk... I called the doc and she wanted me to come in the next day if I wasn't feeling better, but I was! This week I have noticed some swelling in my feet and ankles! Has anyone else had this problem? I guess I won't be able to wear heels. I sure hope it doesn't get worse as my pregnancey progresses, please let me know if you know anything on the subject, I will be asking my doc on the 9th when I go in for the BIG ultrasound to find out the sex of my bean!!!! Can't wait!
We ordered our furniture at the beginning of the week, it is awesome, we got it at a specialty store called Room 4 Baby, but they also carry it at USA baby and other stores. We ordered the three pieces in the picture (convertible crib, large dresser and armoire) and we may order the hutch and night stand at a later date. The furniture is pretty expensive, but made of solid maple wood & very sturdy. We loved it, oh and we ordered it in the walnut color, if you click on the lower right you can download the pamphlet and there are the colors.

I won't be able to narrow down my bedding choices until I know if the bean is a boy or a girl... but we like these two so far:
Here is the bedding we FINALLY decided on:

I hope everyone is feeling well and as excited as we are! XOXX
01/10/07 update: I had my 3 month apponitment this morning and everything went great! We got to hear the baby's heartbeat (150) and the doctor said everything looked great. I only gained 1 lb. since my last visit which I though was great - but doc said I should have gained 2 - I'm sure I'll make up for it! Everything is on track, and I have almost finished up trimester #1! Woo Hoo!!!
I hope everyone is getting over the m/s if they had it, good luck with everything and keep in touch!

Hi there! I'm Tara. My husband and I got married on April 12, 2003 and we weren't ready for kids until now! We like to take things slow, we were dating 2 1/2 years before we got married & knew each other for many years prior to that.

Our wedding day, April 12, 2003

I am pregnant for the first time, due date is July 28th, 2007. We are oh so excited and loving every minute of it. I had an early u/s because I wasn't sure about my due date. I am very relieved to say it went well, & everything looked good. Wow, the tears sure flowed when I saw that little bean & the heartbeat on the screen.
I haven't had any sickness, just tiredness and tender breasts (ouch!).
If you want to share experiences, or if you have the same due date, send me a message! Also, if you are from AZ!!!

Camping in Aug. '06
I am a little worried about how my dogs will react when the baby comes... I think the Mastiff will be good, he is very calm and sweet, but my Great Dane (180 lbs.) acts like he is still a puppy even though he is almost 3! He is kind of rough and doesn't realize that he is BIG! He also chews up anything and everything that I leave in reach (that means coffee table, counter tops, etc.) and takes it out the doggy door. He has been getting in a lot of trouble and I hate to think that he wouldn't be safe around the baby... it makes me cry to even think about it :(. Let me know if you have any suggestions!
