Saxon is here!

May 23, 2008

7 lbs 3 oz

I just got home from the hospital, so I'll spend time updating this after I get some rest. Wednesday and Thursday evening I was having some pretty painful Braxton Hicks contractions about every 10 minutes, but then after a couple of hours they'd go away. So I went in for my 36 week checkup on Friday morning and was having mild contractions every 3 minutes. The doctor checked and I was a little more than 4 cm dilated, so he went ahead and put me in the hospital at 11:45 am. At 12 he came and broke my water. I obviously didn't remember how painful it was having my last child, so I turned down the epidural. Well, the contractions were suprisingly easy to manage, until around 3:50. I had tears in my eyes, so the nurse checked me and told me that I was at 6. I asked her for some demerol, but she said that I was too far dilated, and they weren't allowed to give it after a certain point. (My doctor was in the OR at this time.) At 4:02 pm, the doctor stuck his head in the door and asked how I was doing. I told him very sarcastically that it was really starting to hurt a little bit. The nurse told him that I was 6 cm dilated, and it would be about an hour before we were ready to deliver. The doctor walked out of the room, and the very next contraction hurt so badly that I couldn't see straight, and I screamed for the nurse to hunt down the epidural man. She stepped out to find him, and with the next contraction, I felt muscles tearing and I asked if they could just put me to sleep because I couldn't take any more. She asked me to move my knees apart, which I objected to... and then she screamed for another nurse, because the baby's head was crowning. She had 1 glove on, and did everything she could to keep the baby's head from coming out. Her screaming attracted all of the nurses on the floor... and with the 3rd contraction the baby's head was completely out and the doctor came running into a room full of 8 nurses (one of them still trying to keep the baby in). I looked at the doctor and said "glad you could join us", and with one little half push, the baby came out. This was at 4:08 pm.... just 6 minutes after the nurse told my doctor that it would be an hour. :-) My little Saxon weighed 7 lbs 3 oz, and is perfectly healthy. We just came home tonight, after being in the hospital for 2 days, so I'll go ahead and put a couple of the pictures from my camera phone on here, even though they're not very good. And I'll do a complete update and post some good pictures once I get some rest. It's been at least 2 nights without sleep, and it's time to feed Saxon again!!!

May 26, Memorial Day

We went to visit my parents today. I spent a lot of time crying, simply because my hormones seem to be a little messed up at the moment. My husband couldn't figure out how to download the pictures off of his phone, so he took the ones off of my phone (which aren't very good) and turned them into .jpg files so that I could put them on here. As soon as I can I'll put some decent pictures on, but until then, at least you'll have an idea as to what he looks like. Well... it's getting really late, and I'm sleepy. So... goodnight, and I'll update this again with some better pictures within a few days.

wow.. did you go on your own this time or did they induce you?? They said my daughter was 5lbs8 oz when I went for my u/s at 34 weeks. My son was 8lbs. 4 oz at birth. I hope to not have another 8lb baby. I am getting induced on the 14th if she doesn't come by then. I can't wait!!

How ya feeling?

nmck - Monday, 26 May
Congratulations! What wonderful news! I am assuming you did get to bring the baby home with you. Can't wait to see his pics! I have finished with breastfeeding. I never made a ton to start with, and the baby had no interest in the breast after learning on the bottle. So I pumped and gave him whatever I could get for over 6 weeks, and transitioned to just formula. Things are going well. He does not have too many fussy periods, and seems to be a pretty decent sleeper so far. I am calling his doctor back tomorrow about his reflux. We are going to try a little baby zantac. it is overwhelming to have a baby full time! I wonder how single moms and teenagers do it. My hubs is very suipportive and I can't imagine doing it alone! Keep me posted on how you're doing, and congrats again!!

Hi there, I was reading your comment about getting some castol oil. My sister tried that, and it worked more as a laxative than anything else. Ive heard it works for some people though, Good Luck!

pregoteacher - Thursday, 22 May
I tried the evening primrose oil--nothing that I have noticed. I am afraid of the castor oil because I don't want to make the baby poop too. I sent my daughter back to school today as well. My 3-yr-old is undoing all the cleaning I have done, there are barbies and ponies everywhere.

maemay - Thursday, 22 May
thanks for the reply mommie..but I had a show also--blood mucus something..what does that mean? Should I go in labor pretty soon? cause am worried there are a lot baby stuff I haven't bought yet...hmmmmm...

pregoteacher - Thursday, 22 May
I'm such a doofus, I read your message on my page earlier and then responded to it on my page. Pregnant brain--guess we can't use that excuse much longer. Anyway--here is my original response to you.

I agree, this pregnancy has been way more miserable for me. I can't move when I am in bed and I feel worse when I wake up than when I went. My hips hurt and back hurt so much when I wake up. I finally found some Evening Primrose Oil and am planning to try it to see if it does anything. My hubby would really like it to be this weekend. I want it ASAP. I don't know though, my 7-yr-old is home sick with a fever and rash. 5th's disease is hitting her school pretty hard. She has been bouncing off the walls all afternoon and her fever hasn't come back so it isn't anything big. Would really be bad to have the baby here and have to worry about him catching it. I was told to try to keep my 3-yr-old away from her. Once last night when I got up to check on her they were curled up together on the same couch under the same blanket. So much for that.

amandakaye - Wednesday, 21 May
Yes, I was induced with my first and I took really well to it. The labor only lasted 5 hours total once they started the pictoson, oh I am SO ready!

thebigtomato - Wednesday, 21 May
I will be induced this Sunday, May 25th! :)

pregoteacher - Tuesday, 20 May
I am scheduled to be induced on the 28th if I don't go on my own before then. My dr. made me so mad today because he was saying that was too early but he was counting how far along I am wrong. I am dialated to 2 and 60% effaced which is an improvement over last week. Glad to know all this pain and pressure is actually doing something. I with you on him not wanting to listen to me whine anymore. I think he is over me.

christy33 - Monday, 19 May
Oh, your so lucky! I am now playing the waiting game. I went to doc today for 36 week check-up and all he did was listen to HB, measure belly, and check urine! Ugh! I go back next Tuesday. Keep me posted!

nmck - Monday, 19 May
Hey! I am feeling good. Thank goodness I could recover before the sleep deprivation started! Nights are going well. My hubs and I take shifts, and can each get about 5 hours of sleep that way. I can function on 5 hours, not on none! I am sure you are ready to have the baby. I will cross my fingers that you are at least 4 cm! I feel like I missed out on a lot of the downside of preg. by having the baby so early. I know how much my back hurt and how strange everything felt by that point. I can imagine how uncomfortable you are feeling. Keep me poster and I will send plenty of positive thoughts your way!

pamallhoney - Monday, 19 May
Wow how exciting for you to almost have a date! Do you need a c-section too? I'm really nervous about the c-sect, but am super excited to meet my boys. My body is exhausted, not looking forward to surgery pain, but can't wait to move a little more smoothly and quickly (maybe) in the next few weeks. Well blessings to you and the arrival of your little guy...if I don't talk to you before then.

pregoteacher - Friday, 16 May
I'm feeling ok. I couldn't hardly move Wed. because of my stupid tripping. I made myself get up and move around yesterday which seems to have helped work it out some. Glad I didn't go into labor because there is no way I could push. My laptop has been broken so I haven't been keeping up like I was. I am on maternity leave now too. It is so nice to sleep in a little in the mornings.

christy33 - Friday, 16 May
Doing well! Thanks! Getting huge and feel like my insides have been pulverized!! But I am hanging in there! I spent yesterday in L&D after my regular appt. my Dr. decided my B/P was a little high and wanted me to be monitered for a while. I write about it undermy blogs for my 35 week check-up! Hope your feeling well! Take care!
