How's it going? You doing ok?

samlib - Friday, 20 June
 aww!!! so nice!!

Yay!! That's great news. Sounds like the Le Leche lady gave good advice. Without supplementation, your little guy will tell your body what he needs. It's amazing how it works! My pediatrician threatened to have us supplement too when Karson had lost 10% of his weight on day 4, but he gave us one more day and Karson gained 4 oz over night and 5 more the next day. My milk just hadn't come in yet. Since then, he's been packing on the pounds. I feel really lucky. I sure hope you're able to make this work. You've put so much effort into it and it sounds like it's important to you. Good luck!
We're doing well, just tired as well. Karson's going thru his 6 week growth spurt so he's eating LOTS and has been a little less easy to soothe lately. I know it's just a phase, so I'm hanging on.

Have you seen a lactation consultant? Are you having to supplement with formula? From what I understand, once formula supplementation is introduced it's a slippery slope because your milk is a supply and demand thing. If your baby is getting nurishment elsewhere he isn't demanding so much from you and you produce less. I'm sorry to hear you're having a rough time of it. That must be disappointing. How is everything else going? Is your little guy sleeping well?
I'm happy to say the introduction of the bottle was a total non-issue. Karson gulped down 2 oz in about 30 seconds and wanted more. He has absolutely NO interest in a pacifier, though. I guess I'm kind of glad although they say the use of one during sleep helps reduce SIDS.

We're doing well. Went to my 6 week check yesterday and we're all clear. Seems strange to not be going back for another year! Now, I've just got to gradually take off this extra weight I gained. I've got lots of work to do!! It's hard to get motivated when I'm sleep deprived :)
Our Golden, Jessie, loves HER baby. She is so cute with Karson. When we brought him home from the hospital, she immediately brought him her stuffed froggy. We find her in Karson's room watching over him while he's sleeping. It's so cute! Poor dog had to wait nine years for a little one of her own :)
How's the feeding going? What's this I've read about not shaking breast milk? We're just starting to introduce the bottle...

samlib - Thursday, 12 June
i htink they mean like don't do it SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE i think like soft shakes, something with the viatmins in it maybe idk maybe i dreamt that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! don't quote me on it....my mind is like duhhhhhhh !! hahah!!

everyone has that pump!! its really expensive and i can't see paying that much but i hear its soooooooooo good! ugh idk what to do! my friend LOVED her playtex but does that mean i will ya know? idk!! i just don't want to get it and then not use it... i guess if i get it i will use it tho... why waste it, so you feed bottles alot or just at night? and when you pump and store the milk how do youheat it up? i know breast milk never in microwave and don't shake it right? just kinda side to side to mix? just what i think iremember from ppl and the class... do you stick it in warm water to make it room temp? sorry for all the ????'s!!

bdubb - Saturday, 7 June
My mom will be back on Monday and I am so excited. It will be great to eat and shower again without rushing as much. How is the stuff the doc perscribed for the milk supply working? I have the opposite problem. My milk is comming in so fast he chokes on it I feel so bad for him and then I pull him off the breast and spray him all over. Also, my breast are so engorged I have to go in the shower and squeeze some milk out because they get rock solid hard. My doc told me to wait 2 months before getting the baby out but I can't. We have started little trips mostly to go and eat outside (Panera) but I plan on getting him out a little more over the next few weeks. It is crazy how long it takes to get out the door. Our first time it took like an hour and if it weren't for my mom we would have forgotten a lot of important stuff. We are relaxing this weekend. I might go get brayden's photo taken for mike for father's day. I am not sure. do you have any plans for father's day yet. Mike is so excited about his first father's day so I want to do something for him but I don't know what yet. How about you guys how was your weekend.

samlib - Saturday, 7 June
i have the starter kit...i got botts for my shower, took them back got first years kit, took it back got born free again...ugh! i was gna take them back if i got eh playtex pump so they all would just fit on the pump...did you tell me what pump you have? so maybe i will keep the born free starter kit, i mean i don't need a ton of bottles!! hah!!

samlib - Friday, 6 June

babystanton - Friday, 6 June
I am going to check that out! My friend just sent me her vitamins that she isn't taking anymore. Blessed Thistle and Fenugreek and Alfalfa, so we'll see what they do. Fingers and toes are crossed. :D

heidichristine - Thursday, 5 June
yeah, im still breastfeeding. i stayed with it and im glad i did. i hope the medicine works for you. my husband sleeps on the couch right now so he can sleep through the night cause he has to get up for work every morning at 5. me and zeke sleep in the bed and i nurse whenever he wakes up, which is every 2-3 hours. nights are exhausting, huh?

samlib - Thursday, 5 June

samlib - Thursday, 5 June
you type better then me and i'm using 2 hands!!!!!!!!!!!!! she's waking up i think.. she sleeps alot durin the day and at night is gettin up 2-3 hours, i thought if i pump then i can try a bottle at night and not take the whole hour to feed her... i don't know if she will take a bottle tho SHE does not like a paci and DID NOT like the formula when they told me to suppliment in the begininng....think she thinks i'm her paci tho!! how long are your feedings?

samlib - Thursday, 5 June
hahah!! yes BF, its going well so far, she's gaining and changing everyday!!
do youhave a pump?> i don't have one yet and was taking in everything everyone has been telling me about thiers...

MonikaOH - Wednesday, 4 June
Try Medela shield during feeding for sore nipples. My baby is sing it when I have issues and has no nipple confusion while I enjoy breastfeeding again.
Also lansinoh cream is safe (apply your own milk first, dry, then cream). I got that advise from hospital lactation consultant and it works great. Good luck.

bdubb - Wednesday, 4 June
Hasn't it been great to have mom's help? I was worried she would be too much but she was awesome. She went back home but will be back this weekend. It will be nice to eat breakfast and lunch again. I have been so busy during the day that I don't have too much time to eat. Brayden is doing a little better at night but still gets up every two hours. He eats and goes right back to sleep so it is not that bad. How is the milk supply going? My nipples are killing me!!!

samlib - Monday, 2 June
hi how are you!!

olga83 - Sunday, 1 June
what helped me to increase the milk supply is:
1. pumping every 2 hours for 5 min (not like I did it a first every 3-4 hours for 10-15 min). Pumping more often and only for 4-5 min is less painful and more effective.
2. fenugreek seed. Directions say 2 pills 3 times a day but my lactation consultant told me to take 3 pills 3 times a day for about a week to start.

3. Yogi healthy lactation tea bags 5 times a day. You can look up on amazon or babycenter.com at their store they have special teas or you can get them a the hospital or lactation center. (Milkmaid tea is good too but I dont think they have them packed in tea bags which are better especially when you dont have much time to prepare anything ;)

4. Yoga! yes you need to relax and release the stress which effects your milk production a lot! Releasing stress and relaxing is probably the first and main thing you need to do... try ordering food instead of cooking, get cleaning lady at least for the first 4-8 weeks... Ask your friends for help .Give your husband list with chores.. When your milk production establishes it will be easier to keep it up, but at the beginning you have to stimulate it.

good luck!
