I actually live in Canada. We don't have any information here saying as such. I wonder if that is true.. Here they say that without it the baby can get its arms caught in the bars (so it is actually not necessary until they can roll over) and to decrease the chances of SIDS we should always have our babies sleep on their backs, not smoke (us, not the baby :)), avoiding soft matresses, fluffy pillows, comforters, and stuffed animals. not dressing your baby in hot clothing is important as well. I can see how the bumper pad would decrease the air circulation in the crib and I am glad that you told me that. I think I will wait to put mine in until the baby is old enough to roll over.
