Hi :) I am Alyssa. I live with my boyfriend Leon, and our puppy Fiona. We are pregnant with our first little baby and I am so excited. I want a girl, and he of course, wants a boy. Really, though, It doesn't matter... we are just really excited. We are heavily influenced by art and motivated by creativity (him being a web designer/graphic and myself, photographer) so I have a feeling we have a little artist in the oven... this expirience will be so amazing and I am excited to be able to talk to girls on here, since I have no pregnant friends . Some of the closest people to me are not longer living thier life, and so I will cherish this little one more than anyone will or could ever know. Yay for babies. xo

Self portraits per-say. I love photos.

I love the beatles. I find comfort in thier music.

FIONA. My first 'child' haha. (Before her first haircut)

Fiona in mommys office.

This is Leon and I in Feb 2008 for my 22nd birthday. Im a brunette now.

19 weeks, I finally have a little somethin poking out but not much. People are always like 'you dont look pregnant at all, and im like IM A TINY LADY WITH A TINY BELLY WHAT THE HELL???" LOL

Hey there, I was reading your blog, sounds like you had a bad case of heart burn or acid reflux the other night. I am sorry you are having a hard time. I hope you are feeling better.

MommyKatRN - Tuesday, 25 Mar
Yes, just starting to show!! I wear scrubs every day, so you can't tell with those on... but if I wear my regular jeans and tops there's definitely a little excess there... it's not showing on the scale yet though!!! You?

Haha I've been doing the same thing with holding my fist against my tummy and just thinking 'really?' I think my tummy has shrunk from a few weeks ago.. must have just been bloated. I am really over work.. so wish I could trade with you and go off to listen to nice lectures all day.. grass is always greener huh. I wont be so green when you have assignments and exams. Hey are you having trouble sleeping at night.. i find my self wide awake for hours.. makes getting up to go to work all the more crappy.

You are welcome to ask away. Just remember all births are as unique as the wee ones we carry. The nausea should start to subside now. I am finally feeling much better. Just tired. But that is to be expected.

JennysFirst - Monday, 24 Mar
hey- no prob :) I do have a belly now- it just popped one day. I also have no idea where the little bean is inside of me. I think I know- but my stomach is round all over- so hard to tell- hehe. Your pics are amazing- beautiful!

neenee1971 - Sunday, 23 Mar
Hello there! We are due around the same time. I am expecting our third. Congrats on this being your first! A true miracle they are!

Niamh-Jo - Saturday, 22 Mar
Hey, just came across your page and I love your photos! beautiful! Are you a professional photographer? Congrats on the pregnancy! I am 34 weeks pregnant with b/g twins. Are you going to find out what you're having? x

happyinvention - Saturday, 22 Mar
*sighs* i adore thrift stores :) i've always loved that depending on where you are, depends on what sorta goods you find! san francisco/santa cruz = my favorite place for thrift stores ^^ hawaii isn't soo bad... but i have to admit, im not all sunshine and flowers- and some of their stuff is just plain terrible.

i have bright red couch covers, because my dogs (big smelly ones, lol) have the potential to make the couch itself ridiculously unappealing to sit in

i knew a woman who was married in her 7th month of pregnancy, but i would hate to plan a wedding and baby stuffs all at the same time.. i can totally understand wanting to wait. chris and i just up and decided to get married last june, and i had one flippin week to put together a wedding, without his help ><

my baby bump is only noticeable to chris and i :( i want so bad for it to be visible! i have gained about 6-7 pounds since the begining of this whole thing, but it's not really noticeable.

since i have NO experience with baby's I have been watching the 'baby story' show... does that make me horribly desperate and geeky?

Oh trust me... my first doctors appt, I expected so much to happen, and I had so many questions to ask, and when I got there, nothing happened like I expected and I forgot ALL of my questions. LOL. It is really a lesson learned. But the atmosphere, how they treat you, how you get along with the doctor and the nurse are most important... because this is probably one of the most intimate relationships you will have with another person outside of your honey! So grill away and ask everything you need to the next time. I've was lucky enough to have been going to the same doctor for several years now, so it is helpful that he is also my baby doctor... my next doctor I have to meet is the future pediatrician... and I am SUPER nervous about that. He came highly recommended... but I am still nervous because I think, what if I don't like him?! I think there is a lot we have to think about and many decisions to make… so it is hard.

On another note… have you gone shopping yet? I brought a stroller shortly after I found out I was prego… I heard the entire jinx thing too, but I think what God has planned is what God has planned… and everything will be alright. I would love to do more shopping now, but I kinda want to know what it is so I can taylor what I am getting!

ps.. what kinda puppy!??! fiona is an adorable name for a pup! i want to breed great danes oneday and have done rescue/show/obedience and worked in several boarding kennels :)

our animal family is full right now though :) our two pups are both 9 months old, a weimaraner and a hound mix. and we FINALLY named our kitty (glitch)... and he ended up only being 4 friggin weeks old, the woman totally lied about the age. so it's been cute watching chris be all 'paternal' with him ^^

happyinvention - Friday, 21 Mar
congrats!! sorry your dr. was a jerkface, but some people just have off days. our appointments (3) have only lasted 10 minutes at the most. time enough to pee in a cup, and have her prod my belly with the US machine.

is it too early? hell no!! my husband and i were looking at buying an all white crib/dresser/changing table set, because i want to paint it (you know, to go with whatever theme for the room... which is probably starsnmoons). my house is hippy/artsy, and i want time to make the baby room up accordingly. the way i look at it is: the sooner the stuff is bought, the less rushing/stressing on money later on in the pregnancy

my grandma bought our baby the cutest little onesy ever :) it's unisex, so it works :)

congrats on the bebe :) i am praying that our OB is able to see what sex the baby is mid-April (11th is our next appointment) at 16 weeks... but i doubt it (gr!). our OB is a hawaiian sort of hippy, who's head is floating around in the sky sometimes ^^ perfect for us!

JennysFirst - Friday, 21 Mar
hey, my appt. with my OB/GYN was short as well. The nurse spent most of the time with me and the actual doctor was in and out in about 4 minutes. I think some of the advice given already is great- like make it a point to stop him yourself and write down all of your questions so that you feel more satisfied after your appt. If you still feel uncomfortable with him you might want to switch...see how you feel. As for buying things. I have already bought the crib, a baby bag and a few small cute items for the baby. I am just too excited. Some people say to wait and not jinx the pregnancy, but I don't believe in that stuff. I am trying not to buy much else until I am closer to the due date, plus we are having our shower before the baby comes- but I think it is up to you- whatever you feel comfortable with.

newmom08 - Friday, 21 Mar
Personally, I think you should stop the doctor dead in his tracks and ask him all the questions that are coming to your mind. Afterall you are paying him for a service... don't let him just give you an Rx and an appt. You are going to be a first time mom, your brain is bubbling with a million questions and concerns. You can't sit back and be passive when it comes to you and your baby to be... If you are unsure about the date of your period, your doctor could have done a quick scan (ultra sound) and simply told you the aprox date by measuring the baby. It is so simple and it truly takes 5 min of his time. The best thing you can do for your next appt is to get yourself a notebook, write down all your questions, and your BF's questions, and anything else that is on your mind. And when you get the doctor one on one nail him and ask him everything. Take your time, dont feel rushed, I know they seem busy... but their job is to serve their patients, because without us, they have no job. Be careful with reading too much in books and online, because it can get overwhelming. I know a lot of doctors who have yelled at their patients for doing too much research. Remember, everyone is different, what happens to someone might not happen to you, what happens to you might not happen to another mom. We are all unique and different, so take all you are learning from this site and others with a grain of salt, because it might not all apply to you (or it could all apply to you)... it just depends.

Most of all, don't worry so much and be HAPPY. This is such a precious time in our lives right now and truly exciting especially for us first timers because everything is so new. So don't forget to savor each moment while you can...

Good luck and next time nail that doctor. You don't have to go find a new one, but if you don't feel comfortable, or feel you are getting short changed, use your best judgement. Because your comfort and your health are what is most important.

If you're not really sure where to start with baby stuff, there's a book you might want to look at. Its called 'Great Expectations: Your All-In-One Resource For Pregnancy and Childbirth.' It covers the entire pregnancy week by week, has a great section on labor and delivery, and **bonus** a really comprehensive section on baby stuff, what to look for, and what you really need to have, versus what might be nice little extras. I'm sure those women who already have kids know what to get already, but I'm a first-timer like you, so it really helps to have a some suggestions for where to start. Good luck and congratulations on finally hearing the heartbeat!

britty113 - Friday, 21 Mar
uhh.. i think that's REALLY strange. you should find a doctor that gives a crap about you and your baby. my visits with my dr are always at least 30 mins. we talk, he asks questions, i ask questions.. he CARES! find another doctor, sweetie.. this should be enjoyable, not stressful!

babygibbons - Thursday, 20 Mar

with my first baby i didnt get my belly until i was 5 months... everyones different tho. now im at that stage where i look fat and bloded and not preggers

ML28 - Friday, 14 Mar
Yeah i am not certain of the doppler either. I still have to decide. I have to suck my stomach in at work when i walk around so no one will notice...I am starting to show and none of my pants fit anymore. I have gained around 9 or 10 pounds so far. The first few weeks (5-8) I would feel really sick if I didnt eat every two hours, which is not normally what I do, so I think that caused a bit of gain. Oh'well, not much I can do about it. I have my next u/s on Monday.

mamacakes - Friday, 14 Mar
The first feelings of the baby that you will have will feel like a muscle spasm or like an eye twitch...lol...sounds funny i know...but thats exactly what it will feel like. I have been feeling it for a couple weeks now...but its my second, so i know what to look for. As for 'showing', everyone is diff. I know for women who have allready had a child, we will 'show' alot faster. I allready look bewteen 4 and 5 months gone...LOL but i have only gained a pound...seems like the weight is just shifting...LOL...good luck and congrats!
