Well,

My name is Amanda and I'm a college freshman. I live about 4 hours away from home but my fiance and I will be moving back home in May. My mom is originally from Guatemala and we all took a vacation down there over Thanksgiving. I noticed I was late while I was there and figured it was just my body being dumb. On the plane ride back I was so nauseas I threw up which is unlike me, but I still didn't really think I was pregnant. That weekend I still hadn't started so my best friend bought me two tests. When they came out positive we were shocked. My fiance took it rough but once we got over the initial shock and told our families, we became so incredibly excited!! My due date is July 18th and I can't wait!

February 27th, 2008: (19 weeks)

So I figured I would start keeping a journal on here. It seems like a fun thing to do. Well, I'm 19 going on 20 weeks pregnant and my clothes are getting tighter and tighter by the minute! There are jackets and shirts that fit me literally a week ago that now will not zip or are tight! It's like I had a growth spurt or something. I have to keep telling myself this is a good thing and that it's the baby and not just me getting fatter. I never realized it would be so hard to seperate gaining weight fears from pregnancy excitment. The baby is kicking all the time which is so wonderful! I love being able to know that it's moving around in there. I've been chewing on ice almost non-stop for about 2 weeks now, I love it. I doubt it's anemia though, it's something I've done since I was a child and energy wise I feel great. Chris finally felt the baby kick and he was the HAPPIEST I have ever seen him. His face lit up so bright. The baby kicked maybe 6-7 times when he felt it and he felt it about 3 times. My cravings are starting to increase and whenever I'm at work I crave the CRAZIEST things. I have my next monthly appointment on March 21st and since our baby was not on our side during the ultrasound, we're going to have to wait on finding out the sex and schedule another one at our check up. That's about it. I'm back to my original weight finally! No more weight loss. I just hope I gain with grace and not overnight!

March 11th, 2008: (21 weeks)

I wrote about 2 weeks ago and since then nothing really has changed. I put on 5 lbs. which makes my total weight gain...5 lbs! For the past two days I haven't felt the baby kick much, maybe once or twice every few hours. I know it shouldn't worry me that much but I just feel very funny and strange. I don't know if I'm imagining it at all but I don't "feel" pregnant all of a sudden. Chris tells me it's because I'm so used to it now and I'm hoping he's right. I even feel like all of a sudden my belly got smaller! (maybe because I didn't stuff my face at lunch today?!) I don't know. I want to go to the doctors just to be sure and even though I'm sure I'm being paranoid it would be much more comforting to know everything is alright.

March 13, 2008:

So last night I ended up having to go to the dreaded hospital here in Portales because of pains and cramping that I was having. I wasn't happy about going here because of how INSANE and incompetent they are here, but we went for the baby to make sure s/he was ok. Long story short, (in order to not frustrate myself more) I was not contracting which they thought I might be, the baby's heart beat was in the high 140's and it was healthy. That's a relief. And now s/hes kicking a lot more which is wonderful! I'm still having cramps though so I will have to call my midwife.

April 11th, 2008:

I've been busy which I guess is a good think. We had an ultrasound a few weeks ago and... We're so excited! It was one of the most amazing experieces in the world getting to see him show his privates like he was proud! Haha. And man was Chris proud too! His was the happiest I've ever seen him. We're naming him Ethan, and it's amazing how much of a personality he already has. I can see his kicks through my stomach now and If I have my hand somewhere where he's kicking I can actually feel body parts/bones. It's crazy but amazing. I really think I'm going to miss him inside of me, but at the same time I can't wait to have him in my arms! We were approved for our apartment, so now it's just 3 more LONG weeks until we can move in. I feel like this semester is never going to be over. I left my boppy pillow at home so I've been sleeping all week in saddness. Thankfully, Cathy (my future mother in law) mailed it, so it should be here monday at the latest :D I'm spoiled. Everything else is going wonderfully. I feel like I'm in heaven with my little boy being so active and dancing all the time. I love him so much already, it's amazing. :) I have my 27 week visit next friday and I'll probably have my glucose test done then. I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything comes out fine.

Daddy, Mommy and baby at 19 weeks ♥ 2/25/08

We're so proud, and so is he!!! Haha. 23 weeks.

Unfortunately I don't get carpet for another 6 days. Next Thur. But we are beginning to prep the house for it. Basically we have to move all of our stuff from our 3 bedroom condo into 2 rooms. Its going to be such a pain but it'll be worth it in the end. I imagine you are so busy with moving. I can't wait to start decorating. I have the crib and glider in boxes that I can set up next weekend. Are you excited to set up your nursery?? I am lucky I am tall so I don't have much pain in my ribs unless I sit really slumped over. Only in back and belly. I have had some swelling but I drink a lot of water. It helps a little. I feel the weight taking its toll too. I am still enjoying it too. Some people ask me if I am ready for him to come out but I am still doing pretty good, I want him to be in at least another month, then I will probably get more antsy. My boy moves like crazy too. It is so much better than watching tv!! Chip has finally been able to feel a lot more movements too. I have a visit in 2 weeks and then I think I start going every 2 weeks. I have done my birthing class and hospital tour. I am glad I did both. It makes you feel so much more ready. The hospital tour really made me feel like I wanted my boy here. We got to see a few babies while we were touring.. SOO CUTE! I don't mind what my parents or family say either but everyone chimes in on how big they think you should be. People are clueless. I am just glad me and baby have been doing well the whole pregnancy. I have had back pain but I have had that for a few years now. Other than that I feel I am doing great. I understand that you are busy but it is nice to hear from you and how you and baby are doing. Hope all is well at your appointment!

You will be moving really soon right? I hope all goes well. That is very exciting though. How you doing otherwise?

Hi! Don't worry one bit about the "boobs". It's only another pregnancy "symptom" - some have morning sickness / some don't. We don't all get enlarged --- although I sure wish I did. I'm only an "A" cup and during pregnancies that doesn't change one bit for me. I've succesfully nursed all of my 8 children. It is extremely "rare" for someone to not be able to breastfeed - Size means nothing - the more you nurse, the more milk you will produce. Enjoy!!

cdoyle23 - Thursday, 8 May
Don't feel bad....my tata's haven't changed one bit either. No size difference. Me and hubby are sorta disappointed in that fact. lol I was looking forward to having some boobs! Darn. Maybe they'll explode when our full milk supply comes in once the baby is born.

HEY! Long time.. I'm doing pretty good. I am getting back and belly pain, I am sure you are in the same boat. (hopefully not) I actually have an epidural scheduled for tomorrow. I have a really messed up back from before being pregnant and this puts meds in the area to help with the nerve pain. Its completely safe during pregnancy, I had one a few months back. It doesn;t cross with the placenta. Usually they use an xray machine to give them but they go in blind now that I am pregnant. They are a little painful since they go so deep. The muscles get sore for a few days but it does help enough. Nothing takes away all the back pain. On a lighter note, I have made progress with baby stuff recently. My parents bought and picked up the crib last weekend and have it at their house in the box. I ordered my glider/ottoman, LOVE!! We have carpet scheduled to be put in a week from Thurs. It was the kind we wanted and we got a great estimate. It is all happening so fast now! Do you feel that way? Chip has started painting the nursery and will finish by the weekend. We can't decirate it until after carpet is in but that is pretty soon anyways! I have my tour of the hospital tonight. I am feeling good. My belly has really popped out recently. Its funny, some people say "youre huge!" and some say, "you're tiny for 30 weeks" Everyone has an opinion. I have my baby shower coming up at Chips work on the 22nd and invites are going out anyday for my main shower on the 31st. Whats been up with you?? You can go on and on like I did!

babino2 - Friday, 2 May
lol. i know i wish he could stay young and be my little man forever.

lucy - Wednesday, 30 April
So im not the only one just getting sick, thats a releif. Hope we feel better soon!! Your scan pics are soooooo cute.

Nezbit - Wednesday, 30 April
That's what I say. Babies know when it is their time to make an arrival. My mom says I should do it after, I tell her no way am I drinking some home made concoction. I will eat an es lax if I want to be cleaned out. LOL

Nezbit - Wednesday, 30 April
Hey there-- Yeah I have heard all the bad stuff about castor oil, that's why I would never do that. But my mom says afterward is when you are suppose to use it. Since your mom is also from Guatemala, has she heard of that? My dad being from P.R always has these home remedies and so does my mom, so I was just curious.

nimzm2b - Wednesday, 23 April
Hi, I would go to the chemist and ask the pharmacist, they are usually pretty good at giving advise. I know how you feel because I too suffer with hay fever and an allergy to my cats, i have to take my pills nearly everyday depending on how bad i am. Since I've been pregnant I have found that I suffer more than what i did when i wasn't.

cdoyle23 - Wednesday, 23 April
My doctor told me I could take Zyrtec and Claritin for allergies. Along with Benadryl.

Nezbit - Wednesday, 23 April
Yes, I thought it was you. She is from Guatemala and my dad from Puerto Rico. What a combo huh? I went to Guatemala when I was 7 and haven't been since. My parents went a few years ago and they are planning another trip.

noodle - Wednesday, 23 April
My OB told me Claritin is fine to take but he likes Zyrtec better (thinks it works better). I also take Zatidor eye drops. Hope that helps!

Nezbit - Wednesday, 23 April
Actually all those are safe to take at this point. Benadryl is given to counteract anything so it is safe and so are the other two. I have the list from my doctor and those are all on there. For quick relief I would go with Benadryl. Good luck!!!

buddysmom - Monday, 21 April
I like to know everything going on with the pregnancy too so I understand why you would worry if you hadn't heard of something. My sister in law told her mom I knew all the answers to what they were asking in the birthing class. I have read up a lot on pregnancy. I am practically an expert! Good luck on the glucose test! I also hope that you don't have an infection. I am glad to hear you have all of your furniture. I know every step to get stuff done is relieving. I am going to get my crib ordered this week. I have been a little more sleepy too so I understand. A little more achey too. But overall I am very happy. I am glad you are doing well. Keep me posted on how you're doing!

buddysmom - Sunday, 20 April
Rhogam is the shot you give you if your blood type is negative and the mans is positive. Otherwise it can cause a lot of problems when you have future children. The birthing class went pretty well but it was way too expensive!! I would have never gone to one that was so expensive for the amount of time except that my sister in law chose it. Oh well, all is said and done. We saw a birthing video though, ouch!! It was from like the 1970's so I don't think the woman had an epidural! It was a little scary. I ordered my invitations yesterday. They are so cute. They are a 3d diaper design. And they were a pretty good price. Some were soo expensive!! There is so much to think about and buy when it comes to a baby. I am going to try and order my crib soon. My parents are buying mine too, thank goodness! Everything else is well, little aches and pains but doing good.. how about you?

buddysmom - Friday, 18 April
How are you and your baby boy doing? I had my rhogam shot today since I am A- and Chip (my man) is AB+. It was no big deal. Some women on this site were complaining aout how much it hurt but it really didn't. They better start worrying about labor pain!! They have no idea what they are in for. My doctor told me that I should handle it great since I have dealt with quite a few pain conditions and surgeries over the past years. I know what pain is. On a lighter note.. I have my birthing class today. We just signed up in the one my sister in law and her husband are doing. It's at her gyno office. It seems a little like a rip off now because it is only like 4 hours for $150!! I heard a lot of women talk about like 6 classes for that price. And it's not even at the hospital. Oh well, we wanted to take it with them. I have been looking at invitations for my baby shower.. I am SOO excited. I have awhile to go. Chips work is throwing me a shower on May 22 and my other is the 31st. I am lucky to get 2. The people at his work will get smaller stuff, he doesn't work at a law firm or doctors office!! But it all adds up. I need to buy a crib soon too. I always feel behind.

buddysmom - Wednesday, 16 April
I know some women that have become totally irresponsible after becoming mothers. Usually friends of friends but it's hard to think much of them. We even lost respect for this dad because he became more selfish after he got married and had a baby. It was hard to see them because it was disturbing. It's not like you cna really say or do anything when it's not your life. I am doing a birhting class through a gyno practice and not hospital but we are going to take a maternity tour soon too. Speaking of, I should probably book that! The hospitals near us are very big hospitals and I am pretty sure they have good security too. I hope they have a sort of "detector" I am off tonight to go out with my mother in law and sister in law (the one who is pregnant) Hope you're feeling well today!! Later

buddysmom - Wednesday, 16 April
First off, I know exaclty what you mean by wanting pregnant friends. I feel the same way. My sister in law is pregnant and due a week before me so thats cool. It has been nice to have her. She is almost 10 years older though so we aren't "best friends" or anything. I wish we were. I really need mommy friends soon too. Especially with us being stay at home moms we need a support system. I understand what it's like to have friends who are still in a partying mode. We have quite a few of those still too! They don't really understand how much our life has already changed and how much more it will. I have my birthing class this Friday. We are actually going with my sister in law (Chips sister) and her husband. I am looking forward to it. It's going to make it all seem more real. We also will take a tour of the maternity area in our hospital. I have looked into different things I can do when the baby is here too. Once things settle and Chip goes back to work I may try to get into some mommy-kid classes like gymboree. Do you have those near your home? They can be a little pricey but it would def open up your world to some moms with kids the same age. Plus they're good for the babys/childs development. When is your birthing class?

buddysmom - Wednesday, 16 April
We are definitely lucky to have guys that will stick around. Mine wouldn;t leave me for anything. Thats terrible that your fiance's father left. I can't imagine. I was pretty thin before I was pregnant but I struggled with my weight when I was younger. It is hard to gain weight and be "heavier." It's hard not to feel some of that insecurity come back. It's not too hot here yet but I do dread when it is!! I am sure we are freaking out for nothing. When I think about it we can probably get everything we need done in a few weeks hard work. I think it will mostly get done but I still feel pressure to do it NOW! I hope I can chill out my last month!! If I am done by then I wouldn't mind him being a few weeks early!! I want him here as long as we are ready. I definitely have felt the hormones a few times. My man has told me to check it basically and asked if I am tired cuz I get most grouchy when I am reallly tired.. which has happened a little more often recently. He wants me to be cheery everyday which is just not possible. They will never completely understand what goes along with being pregnant, the bad and the good. Thats why I love this site and having other women to talk to because we can understand eachother better than they can at times.

buddysmom - Tuesday, 15 April
I am glad we are alike. I feel bad that I am a control freak. I think it annoys my man sometimes but I can't help it. I am an extremely organized person and want it all to be done now too. We have to wait until mid May to get carpet so we will be on a similar schedule. I have to use the nursery as storage for other furniture so I cannot decorate until after carpet is done. I hate asking for things to be done too.. and then asking again, and again. Men take a few times before they do it. I would rather just do it myself too. I do feel like pregnancy has gone by fast. The first month of pregnancy went slow but now it has flown by. I do feel unprepared. I have lists of what home improvements etc need to be done by the time the baby is here. I told my man last night I am not the only pregnant woman stressing about getting the house ready. I am scared to death the baby will come early and throw it all out of whack. I want the 3 months left. I need them. Men have NO idea how hard it is to carry a child. It is tiring, painful at times, emotional..
