Hello,
I have been married to Mike for eight years. We have one son who is five. We live in Elizabeth City NC. I am a stay at home mom and loving it.
02/05/08- We had a scare tonight. I had some brownish spotting. I freaked out. With my son I had no spotting no issues. I went to the ER and had lab work and an ultrasound. All came back fine. Ultrasound showed a good strong heartbeat. The ER doc said everything was fine but I was still worried.
02/07/08- I had my first doc appt today. All went fine. The spotting has stopped. The doc said it was most likely implantation bleeding. I go back in two weeks for another ultrasound and more lab work just to make sure. Also, since I had gestional diabetes in my first pregnancy the doc with do a glucose test at my next appt to check. My worries have lessen slightly but still there.
02/26/08-I had my second dr appt today. All was fine. I had my full exam and everything looks good and I am 10 weeks today. My offical due date is 09/23/08. I will have a schedule c section at 39 wks. They did find sugars and ketones in my urine so I have to do the glucose test tomorrow since I had gestional diabetes during the last pregnancy. I hope all comes back normal tomorrow I do not want to start testing my sugars already.
03/08/08- I got my glucose test back and I have gestational diabetes again. I got those results back on 03/03/08. I started testing my sugars on 03/04/08 and they are high. I meet with the nurse midwife that also handles with patients with diabetes on 03/07/08. She said that my sugars are too high too soon in the pregnancy she believes that I had diabetes prior to getting pregnant. I have this week to get my sugars under control but the midwife does not think I will be able to just by diet alone. She believes that I will have to take insulin. If that is the case I will have to travel over an hour way to a high risk doctor. I am worried about the baby. I going to work as hard as I can to get my sugars under control with diet. My fasting level is high, that worries me that I will have to take insulin. Besides worrying about the baby I am concerned with the extra cost of traveling to the high risk doctors and the extra expenses. My family is being a great support. My mom is helping me come up with good ideas for meals. I am really worried and scared right now. I have read books and looked up on the internet about diabetes. I have seen all the possible problems the baby could have. I am scared I have caused harm to the baby not knowing I was diabetic before getting pregnant and not having my sugars are under control. I am praying that all is ok. I go back to the doctors on 03/14/08 and see what the next step is.
03/18/08-I went to dr appt at the Maternal and Fetal Devolpement specialist yesterday. It was a long appt but I really liked the staff there. I am now some insulin. I gave myself two shots so far now. It is not as bad as I thought. I go back to my regular OB next week. I am trying to reduce stress but still worried. I hope all will be ok now. I have seen the baby on the ultrasound this past Friday and yesterday. It was great. It was moving all around.
03/24/08-A few days I go, I started to feel little squirmy movements when I laid flat in bed right after eating my bedtime snack. It was wonderful. Doing pretty good controlling my blood sugars and taking the insulin. Not as bad as I thought it would be to give myself a shot. It hurts less to give my shot in the tummy than to prick my finger to test sugars. I am wearing maternity pants now just pants. My shirts are still ok.
04/04/08-I had a scare this week. I had a low blood sugar of 49 before my morning snack and had all the signs. I was shakey, sweating, and light-headed. I was very freaked out and scared. I ate a pb sandwich and drank some OJ. It took 25 mins before I felt a little better. I called the MFM office and had to leave a mssg. By the time lunch came around my reading was 109 and I am suppose to give myself a shot of insulin if over a 100. I did not want another low. I called my husband, mom, and dad to see what to do. No one was sure. My mom rushed over and took me by my regular OB and if she could not get an answer then she was going to take me to the hospital. My regular OB said not to take anything just eat lunch before I dropped again. I was an hour behind from when I normally eat lunch. I stayed with my mom until my husband got home from work just in case. Finally around 5pm I got a call back from the MFM office and they lowered my fast acting insulin in the morning and long acting before bed. So far everything has been better. No readings lower than 75. I go back to the MFM office on 04/07/08. I have a ton of questions about when do I get an ultrasound. I want to know the sex of the baby and most important to make everything is developing ok. Since not knowing about the diabetes in the beginning I am worried that all is ok. I am still feeling rolling movements at night and now during the day. No big kicks or punches yet.
04/08/08-Had my appt at the MFM group yesterday. It went great. All my labwork came back great. They are still adjusting my morning insulin to get it just right. I have gained 2 pounds back from the the 5 lost early on. Over the past weekend I had some pink itchy patches appear on my stomach. I think it is the alcohol wipes drying my skin out from where I give my insulin shots. The doc said to put benadryl and hydrocortison cream on them. Just the application last night they have decreased so much. I was trying not to scratch but it was driving me crazy. Andrew went with me to the appt yesterday. He is finally getting excited. He still has not grasped a hold of everything yet. They did a quick ultrasound to get the heartbeat. It was 145. The baby was moving around too much for the doppler. On the ultrasound you could see the baby's arms and legs moving around like crazy. When Mike got home from work. He asked Andrew about the doc appt. He asked if he say the pic of he baby. Andrew said yes. Later on we all were talking about the baby. Mike asked Andrew where the baby was. Andrew says the baby is "in the computer". We laughed so hard. I go on 05/06/08 for the developmental ultrasound hopefully we will find out the sex. That is too far away. Then on 05/19/08 I go for the echo ultrasound. I am getting less worried about the diabetes and pregnancy.
04/20/08- Not much going on. I am still having trouble getting my BS to be lower than 120 after breakfast no matter what I eat. I am taking 16 units of fast acting insulin. Still feeling little squirmy movements every now and then a little kick. Still not big enough for daddy or big brother to feel. I hope it is soon. I have been feeling down a little about not being able to eat what I am craving. Last week I did not want to eat but I did. I am craving a huge plate of spaghetti or beans & franks. I am not eating pasta since I can't have a lot due to the carbs because it does not fill me up and I am still hungry. The only food that made me happy last week is dinner at a Mexican restaurant. I can have the chicken taco salad, one taco, and 8 chips. After eating that my sugar level is wonderful. I told my husband I want to eat that at every meal everyday. I am still confused sometimes why sometimes my sugars are high when I eat less carbs than the diet says I can. I go for another check up on Wed. Three more weeks until the big ultrasound.
05/06/08- I had the ultrasound yesterday. IT IS A GIRL. Yeah. I am just happy to have healthy baby. She weighs 11 oz I have been so worried about the development due to the diabetes. Per the tech she said anatomy looked great. The baby girl was very shy in the beginning but the tech got a quick look and it is pretty sure it is a girl. My fluid level was measuring low but it could have been just the baby's position. I have to drink alot of water. I thought I was drinking enoughing since I am peeing all the time. I have the echo ultrasound in two weeks. They will recheck the fluid level and also make sure she is still a girl. It was a wonderful day.
05/08/08- I had labwork done on 05/05/08. I got a call today for the MFM office and they said my A1C was great. It was 5.2. But, my thyroid is not function. It is not producing enough. I have to another medication for that now. This pregnancy has had alot of things going on. I am still worried that the baby's development. I can't wait until the next appt on 05/19/08.
05/20/08- I had my appt yesterday. It was a long appt. They were very busy in the office. My appt was at MFM. My thyroid is not producing enough and the doc said that it happens and that it also could go along with the diabetes. Everything should go back after delivery. My sugars are doing good. They did increase my NPH at night since my fastings seem to be creeping up a little. I am now on 30units Humlin+20units Humalog in the morning, then 16units Humalog at dinner, and then 20 units of Humlin at bedtime. I had the echo ultrasound also yesterday and the baby's heart looks good. This tech was also pretty sure it was a girl. The baby did not want to cooperate yesterday. When the tech moved the wand over to look at different parts the baby would move away. She was feet down, head up and facing my back. No pictures since she did not want to show here face. The tech said she now weighs 1 lb and 3 oz. She gained 8 ozs in 2 wks. The tech said she looks good. My fluid is still low. No change no increase and no decrease. I have to drink more water and get more rest. I thought I was drinking enough water and was struggling to get that water in and now I have to get more water in. AGHHHH. I woke up 4 times to pee last night. I have another appt at regular OB on 05/30 and then go back to MFM on 06/16. It seems that once I get one issue under control then something else pops up. I will do whatevere it takes to have a healthy baby girl.
05/27/08- Had a good weekend. My sugars were great. Madison loves mexican food. Everytime I eat mexican my sugars are wonderful. It is weird. Mike cleaned out the attic and we got out Andrew's baby stuff to see what we had. We have plenty of blankets to use for Madison. We need oneies, sleepers, towels, and washclothes. We can use all the big stuff again, crib, walker, high chair, etc. Mable went crazy on buying new clothes for the baby. Next dr appt on 05/30/08
06/04/08-Well appt on 05/30/08 at my regular OB went fine. Madison does not like when they use the heartbeat doppler or the ultrasound to find here she always moves away. I am still under my pre-pregnancy weight, docs are not worried since she is growing. My sugars have been wonderful for the last 14 days or so. It is kind of scary that they have been so good. Dr Brown(regular OB) thinks that I am finally on the right amount of insulin and now with the thryoid medication it helps control my levels. Well on 06/03/08 I did not feel Madison that much just a few times in the morning. I did not worry at first since I was busy with Andrew but when she did not move after my afternoon snack, dinner, and bedtime snack then I got worried. I went to L&D and they checked her out and she was doing great. Heatbeat was very strong. She still did not cooperate. They could only keep her on the monitor for a minute before she would move or hide. My mom said Madison is "grounded when she come into the world". My urine sample at the hospital showed ketones, so they told me to drink more water. I am drinking atleast 100oz of water a day. I can't imagine drinking more but I will do my best. Checked with my high risk doc today and she said to drink more water and I will see them on 06/16/08 for another appt and ultrasound.
06/17/08-Yesterday had an appt at MFM and it went really well. I still have not gained any weight. My sugars are doing really well. I actually ate Taco Bell and Texas Roadhouse yesterday and had very good reading. YEAH!!!! Madison is doing well. She cooperated and ultrasound went well. She now weighs 1lb 15 oz. My fluid has gone up. It was a 6 at the last appt and now it is at 8 but should be over 10. At least we are moving up. I had lab work done to check on thyroid and A1C. Andrew and I went shopping and lookng yesterday. I got some cute clothes and cute decorations for the room. It was very good day but I was exhausted when I got home.
07/08/08- Yesterday was an appt at MFM. It was a good appt. My A1C came back at 5.1. My thyroid is still a little on the low side so the changed my medication to put me in the normal range. I gained 6 lbs in 3 wks. I was a little freaked out at first since so much in a little amount of time. Still have a cold, I have had it for about a wk now. It is just very annoying. After my doc appt. I have another ultrasound to check the growth and the fluid. The fluid is now up to 9.5. So I guess the constant intake a of water and resting as much as I can has really helped. Madison is doing well. She has gained lots of weight. She now weighs 3 lbs 5oz. Now I know where some of the weight came from. She was back to feet down, head up, facing my back. So no pics yesterday. Also that means I have alot of kicks very low. It was a very good day. Got some more baby things and had dinner with old friends. I had a blast.
