Hi all,

I'm expecting my baby girl on April 8th.

Her name is Ioanna Mouzakitis Livanis.

My husband and I are both professors at different universities and I am planning on continuing my career shortly after I give birth.

I am currently completing my dissertation and hopefully will be almost finished by the time Ioanna gets here, but motivation is tough to come by.

I am loving being pregnant, but it would be nice if I had nothing else to do except be pregnant.

I started pumping like in the first week b/c my left breast became engorged, now I get get just as much out of each one as she can, almost. I usually get 5-6 ounces combined. I use a double electric medela in style pump. I wouldn't trade that thing for nothing!!

I'M ALSO BREASTFEEDING BUT 2 WEEKS AGO I STARTED PUMPING AND GIVING HER THE BOTTLE AND IT'S GOING MUCH BETTER FOR ME ANYWAY. SHE WOULD ALSO FALL ASLEEP ON MY BOOB AND I JUST DIDNT KNOW IF SHE WAS GETTING ENOUGH. NOW I PUMP BUT I GIVE HER MY BOOB AT NIGHT AND ALSO WHEN SHES FUSSY OR CRYING MY BREAST REALLY SOOTHES HER. SHE IS NOW 8 WEEKS OLD. HOW OLD IS IOANNA? PLEASE WRITE WHEN YOU GET A CHANCE, KINGA

Just wanted to check in with you on the progress of breasfeeding. I hope things are getting better for you! Here's my opinion based on my previous BF experience. You don't have to wake the baby up to eat. She will let you know when she's hungry. Let her feed as long or as little as she wants. As things progress you will be able to make a schedule of it. Also, if you're concerned on how much she is getting, monitor the diaper changes. If they are normal, you're fine. If she's gaining weight..she's fine. I wouldn't worry to much. It's hard the first couple weeks but more than worth it! Good luck!

Hi, saw your post on the breastfeeding page, I agree with the comment a couple below here. I've done this as a rule with my kids as newborns: during the day, don't let them go longer than 4 hours without a feed. Wake them up after 4 hours. During the night, let her go as long as she wants. This will help develop recognition between day and night. Apparently they will tend to have one longer sleep per 24 hours and this way, you encourage her right from the beginning to do that longer sleep at night. I hope this helps, it has worked well for me. Good luck!

hey there i saw your comments regarding breast feeding..first of all well done for being a breastfeeding Mummy! try not just offer the preferred breast my son did this and i ended up with a huge boob and a little boob!! i would wait till she was really hungry then present the other boob! ......

also i would wake baby up every four hours on the dot then the feeding routine kicks in, and you will always know where you stand.. (except at night let her sleep as long as she wants!!!) and if baby falls asleep on the breast if you stimulate her cheek in a firm quick little circle (not just stroking the skin but actually wiggling it in a gentle circle ) with your finger her sucking reflex wakes up but she will stay snoozing!! xx

Hi Angela,\
How doing the little princess today? hope great!!!
I just read your comment about the breastfeeding and just want to let you know that it's normal for her to prefer one of your two breast because i think the orher nipple is not enough supple for her,
she just a few days old mummy, try to put the nipple cream to help her and then you see, it's could be great.
If she sleep enough, just let her sleep and when she wak up first think to do : breast ok?!!! if my answers help you, i would be happy. take care and let me know soon.

HEEELLLLPPPP. I have so many questions and it is sunday night and I don't know where to get the answers. 1. let her sleep. She'll wake up when she is hungry 2. since she is sleeping so well, I wouldn't wake her...unless that is what you are already doing and that is making her sleep long 3. as long as you are pumping you can keep from being engourged, which HURTS! 4. of course it is okay to present to her. why wouldn't it be?
I hope everything works out for you!
and I am so glad you are choosing to breast feed!

amberizzle - Monday, 21 April
You needn't wake your child to feed her. If she's hungry, she'll wake on her own.

That is so cute how she fell asleep like that! I'm all for breastfeeding, I'm just nervous about it--I've heard so many people having trouble with it. I'm glad that it seems to be working out for you. When do you two get to go home?

laurie - Thursday, 17 April
thank you for that! i just feel better when i hear people have had good experiences! the longer stay in hospital would be great to, being a 1st time mum you have more time to learn and take things on board!
i hope you have a speedy recovery and best wishes for you and your gorgeous girl in the future! xo

first off congrates I'm still waiting. I did love to breastfeed both my girls, BUT you have to get throught the first one to two weeks those weeks I HATE it I am dredding going through that again but it gets better. My nipples crack and bleed at first and every baby latches on differant but once your nipples heal about 8-9 days in and you and baby get use to each other it is great. Just hang in there and don't be afraid to get help before you leave the hospital.

Wow--congrats on your new baby! What a birth story--I'm glad to hear you and the baby are both ok. I'm still preggo (3 days overdue) so I don't have advice on breastfeeding, but I'd love to hear your experiences with it because I mostly hear about it being difficult. Hang in there--and congratulations again! You did it!

Good luck on your induction tomorrow! It sounds like the best thing for you and the baby, and I'm sure it will go well. I'm scheduled for one on Monday, as well. Weird to think that at this time next week we'll probably be home with our babies! Good luck again!
