Hi all,

I'm expecting my baby girl on April 8th.

Her name is Ioanna Mouzakitis Livanis.

My husband and I are both professors at different universities and I am planning on continuing my career shortly after I give birth.

I am currently completing my dissertation and hopefully will be almost finished by the time Ioanna gets here, but motivation is tough to come by.

I am loving being pregnant, but it would be nice if I had nothing else to do except be pregnant.

I pump about 15 to 30 min each time. Depends on what i am doing as well. When i am at work it is usually closer to 30 min just b/c i am working and not paying that close of attention. In the AM and in the PM just before Jake eats it is always just 15 min. He won't wait longer than that!

me too, i think he is growing perfectly. i cant even imagine him being 17 or 18 lbs like the other babies. i mostly breastfeed and use formula too.as long as he is having wet and dirty diapers, and gaining some weight, im thinking he is good...i dont like to eat alot, but i always try to eat good everyday so my milk comes in good. i hope he is getting enough, cause i'm not sure when im nursing him. he eays 4 ounces when he takes a bottle every two or three hours. after 4 ounces he seems content and doesnt seem to want more.

Yea it took a little getting use to. I was pretty sore for a while. I was lucky and Jake came to work with me for months so i didn't have to start pumping until he was 7 months old. But once i got use to it and got a good pump (the medela pump in style) it got easier. I pump when i wake up in the AM, before i feed Jake. Then 3 times at work. Once before i feed Jake in the eveing and then once before i go tot bed. It is a tough schedule and i am very looking forward to the one year mark when i will start to ween off pumping and then ween Jake. But for now i sing a little I hate pumping song while i pump and try to remember that i doing this to give my son the best i can! The best recommendation i can give you for sore nipples is 1. make sure you have the correct size nipple shield and 2. Make sure you use lots of lanolin. Good Luck! I hope ti gets easier for you, i know it did for me!

i was thinkin the same thing--my baby is 14 lbs and i always feel like everyones babies weigh so much more than mine, but he looks healthy to me! he's in the 25th perc. for weight too.

No but I have. I pump twice a day. Once in at 9am, I feed Kekoa at noon and again at 3pm. I work but spend my lunches with him. My sister pumps three times a day since she can't feed at lunch. It seems like she has a never ending supply now that she has gone on the oatmeal diet!

I had that problem a bit when I first went back to work, I just massaged my breast while I pumped especially where I felt a lump or blockage. Give it a try, even if you have to actually squeeze your breast while you pump, it helps get everything out which is what you want

It's working !!!!
Just wanted to see how well this works!

melSue01 - Thursday, 15 May
I started pumping like in the first week b/c my left breast became engorged, now I get get just as much out of each one as she can, almost. I usually get 5-6 ounces combined. I use a double electric medela in style pump. I wouldn't trade that thing for nothing!!

I'M ALSO BREASTFEEDING BUT 2 WEEKS AGO I STARTED PUMPING AND GIVING HER THE BOTTLE AND IT'S GOING MUCH BETTER FOR ME ANYWAY. I FOUND THAT WHEN I WAS BREASTFEEDING SHE WOULD STAY ON MY BOOB FOR HOURS AND THEN BEFORE I KNEW IT SHE WAS HUNGRY AGAIN. SHE WOULD ALSO FALL ASLEEP ON MY BOOB AND I JUST DIDNT KNOW IF SHE WAS GETTING ENOUGH. NOW I PUMP BUT I GIVE HER MY BOOB AT NIGHT AND ALSO WHEN SHES FUSSY OR CRYING MY BREAST REALLY SOOTHES HER. SHE IS NOW 8 WEEKS OLD. HOW OLD IS IOANNA? PLEASE WRITE WHEN YOU GET A CHANCE, KINGA

Hi, saw your post on the breastfeeding page, I agree with the comment a couple below here. I've done this as a rule with my kids as newborns: during the day, don't let them go longer than 4 hours without a feed. Wake them up after 4 hours. During the night, let her go as long as she wants. This will help develop recognition between day and night. Apparently they will tend to have one longer sleep per 24 hours and this way, you encourage her right from the beginning to do that longer sleep at night. I hope this helps, it has worked well for me. Good luck!

Hi Angela,\
How doing the little princess today? hope great!!!
I just read your comment about the breastfeeding and just want to let you know that it's normal for her to prefer one of your two breast because i think the orher nipple is not enough supple for her,
she just a few days old mummy, try to put the nipple cream to help her and then you see, it's could be great.
If she sleep enough, just let her sleep and when she wak up first think to do : breast ok?!!! if my answers help you, i would be happy. take care and let me know soon.

HEEELLLLPPPP. I have so many questions and it is sunday night and I don't know where to get the answers. 1. let her sleep. She'll wake up when she is hungry 2. since she is sleeping so well, I wouldn't wake her...unless that is what you are already doing and that is making her sleep long 3. as long as you are pumping you can keep from being engourged, which HURTS! 4. of course it is okay to present to her. why wouldn't it be?
I hope everything works out for you!
and I am so glad you are choosing to breast feed!

amberizzle - Monday, 21 April
You needn't wake your child to feed her. If she's hungry, she'll wake on her own.
