Hi all,

I'm expecting my baby girl on April 8th.

Her name is Ioanna Mouzakitis Livanis.

My husband and I are both professors at different universities and I am planning on continuing my career shortly after I give birth.

I am currently completing my dissertation and hopefully will be almost finished by the time Ioanna gets here, but motivation is tough to come by.

I am loving being pregnant, but it would be nice if I had nothing else to do except be pregnant.

You're too funny! Glad you are trying to find different positions that will work with the little princess. I love it that she is so active but sucks she's working on your ribs! Mine I think is facing the side b/c I get kicks towards the outside mostly; totally misshaping my uterus, NICE!
I will definitely email you at your other email addy. You should do the same - I get those emails right away curtesy of my crackberry which I still check every 3 seconds even tho I'm off work...
My swelling is BAD. I no longer have ankles or feet really. I'm normally a size 9 and am now in size 11 SLIP ON SNEAKERS! The only thing that helps is keeping my feet up. On Sat we had the apt cleaned and I just sat on my bed reading my breastfeeding book and I actually had ankles that day. Only 'cause I was off my feet almost all day. Glad it's not affecting you. It can still sneak up on ya tho so just watch for it --- also doc says to avoid salty foods which I think we all know.
Hope you are doing ok today. It's so beautiful outside! I will definitely venture out for a walk later!
We have our infant first aid/CPR course tonight. Hope to learn lots!

A few things about leaking amniotic fluid. First, put in a panty liner and smeel it. If it smells like (sorry) semen, call your doc. That's what my doc said. Also, if you think you're leaking and can't stop the trickle/leak, then call your doc. If you can stop it by contracting your kegels, then it's urine (nice right?) or just discharge.
I had my doc check a couple of times. One he inserted the speculum and had me cough hard twice. Then he said 'noting, not even a drop', so now I do that test on my own: I use some bunched up toilet paper, make sure I'm dry down there, and cough to see if anything comes out.
The key is that with a leak, you cannot stop the flow. It comes out when you shift and/or when the baby moves. I doubt you're leaking but you should call your doc if you're worried, it's an easy check for them.

Hang in there Angela, we're almost there. Can you have papers and notes brought to you and spread out all over the bed? Or maybe take a nap and see if that will move the baby and make it more comfortable for you? I find after I get up after sleeping, she's in a different position.
Or try going for a walk, yoga or a swim. We only have a little over two weeks! Even if you go over, it's a matter of just a few days. Stay strong.

Totally. Everyone carries differently. I would not worry.
My belly is looking and feeling huge. I wish I knew how to upload pics etc. Maybe I'll figure it out now that I'm home from work.
I've gained 52 lbs already and everyone always asks if I'm carrying twins...plus she's dropped now so it feels really heavy. I'm also pretty tall so the whole thing is just large! I didn't think I'd be that person that gets huge and has a huge baby but apparently I am. My sister's kids were all big and we were 10 pounders ourselves. Ugh. I will let you know what the doc says on Wed after I have a scan...I hope I can have her vaginally...

Angela, provided your baby is growing fine, I would not worry. You may want to ask your doc for a sonogram next week to measure the baby's weight but there are lots of reasons why you look smaller than some people.
I know women that only gained 7 lbs during their entire pregnancy and had perfect healthy normal-sized babies. It's very individual. If you are concerned, ask for a sonogram but even if the baby is in the lower end of the percentile, it should be fine as no two babies grow at the same rate.
Stay strong, we're almost there!

6lbs 1/2 oz @ 38wks, but there were other factors invovled in why i was induced.

marina - Saturday, 22 Mar
I looked at your photo poll. I wasn't all that big when I had the baby - you'd be surprised how much they are curled up in there, I guess. I couldn't believe she was as big as she was. I can't wait until you all start having your babies!!!

Yep, yesterday was my last day!!!! I thought I could also go for longer but honestly, I could not swing it anymore!
Also I've been taking a car to and from work every day b/c I could not handle the subway any more.
You are doing awesome, don't know how you are hanging in. It won't be long now that we'll have our little girls though so just focus on that!

I'm also having the hemmroid issue. And I researched natural cures...it's all bizarre herbal potions, which I won't be doing. I'm not bleeding however. I also had problems w/ hemmroids a few years ago, and I remember the hemmroid OTC ointment that you can buy really helped. Once baby is here, that's what I plan on using. Until then, maybe try soaking in the tub. I've found that the warm water makes them feel a little better temporarily.Hope that helps!

Totally! We have the resources now so why the heck not use them? You're right, it may be a New York thing...we're all pretty A-type here :-)

Avocat29 - Wednesday, 19 Mar
Here here! I'm with you. I'm all for sonos to know what's going on and also getting internals to know what is going on.
I like knowing versus not knowing. Being prepared is half the battle is my view!

I liked your comment about induction. I am one of those that have had many ultrasounds and am being induces March 31st and I love my docs they are on top of things too. Why do people automatically think that being induces is bad. Lots of people like to play doctor right. Good luck.

I was just checking in w/you and saw the comments about the birthing class. I second what everyone else seems to be saying - they aren't that helpful. Mine was $60 for 4, I didn't make it to the last one which included the tour of the birthing suites which I didn't even stay in but for 2 hrs maybe since I had the c-section. Anyway, it was kind of nice to meet other moms but I've made more contacts on here than in that class and it wasn't all that helpful. You could totally learn more by researching it yourself (since I know you're quite capable in that area!!) or watching stuff on youtube or something. Hope you are doing great and staying warm in the NYC. I can't wait to see all of your babies.

Hey I loved your last comment! We all want to be done with this pregnancy....if not then they are crazy! However our babies health is always most important (at least you would hope!) Well thanks again. Made me smile!

sickasadog - Wednesday, 12 Mar
your welcome, how are you doing these days? i keep up with you through your posts. ha ha ha. I was great a moment ago til the baby decided to stretch... yikes!!! Breath in and out. ha ha ha man, i don't think i can go 3 more wks of this. ha ha ha

april mcspadden - Tuesday, 11 Mar
yep~ your right...just one big baby! =)

sarahlynn44 - Tuesday, 11 Mar
i couldnt afford to go to the birthing class offered by the hospital here and I found one online. It covered everything that the regular classes would and I thought it was very nice. If you would like a link to it let me know. They send you a e-mail for four weeks that goes over the stuff they would at the class and the person writting the e-mails is a actual nurse and childbirth instructor person... My mind just went blank sorry lol anyhow good luck!

sickasadog - Tuesday, 11 Mar
i did not go to a birthing class. If you have experience with babies through nieces, nephews, cousins... then it is not worth going. The minor breathing you do learn goes out the door with the first hard pain. I think just having a good partner or doula is good enough. go if you have no experience with babies.

newbiemama - Tuesday, 11 Mar
oh yeah I gave birth before I could attend the 2nd one!!!

newbiemama - Tuesday, 11 Mar
hey! I took only one birthing class and I thought it was useless. Some people like them but I knew what to expect becuase I read about it. And forget about a birth plan it's all up to improvisation!!!!!!

hismunchkin05 - Tuesday, 11 Mar
Hi, I read your post about birthing classes. I didn't take one and from what I heard you only miss out on early registration/the tour of L&D. I did buy a birthing class video though it's 'Laugh and Learn about childbirth' You can either purchase it through amazon.com ($45.00 with shipping) or try to rent it from blockbuster
