I love your adaptation of the BJ lyrics - made me LOL! Also, thank you for your kind words about my creative writing efforts! In fact it was more a kind of technical writing - a bit dull actually! But at least it kept my brain cells from dying off. I would like to try writing a book some time in the future. I don't really know what about, but it is something I have thought about for when I retire LOL - how LONG away that is!!

Oh yes, I am definitely with you about becoming parents letting you do all those things you remember enjoying as a child yourself! It is Father's Day here on Sunday and as a special treat we are taking my girls Dad to the Zoo!! The best thing of all is that he is really looking forward to the trip!! We have an overnight stay in a hotel on Saturday and the zoo visit on Sunday. PERFECT for the big kid my hubby is!

I bet you are enjoying seeing your friend Laura this week. What kind of things will you get up to? Whatever you do, I hope you have FUN!

Speak to you soon, Valerie x

Hey!
Yeah, i like arabic too a lot, i just wish i would understand more... i only understand a bit, but i'm learning new words all the time :)
How r u doing? I hope ur fine! How's the baby? :)

Hi Pam
On the subject of music and babies, I am going to see Bon Jovi in concert on 22nd June!! I am so excited - like a teenager - they are my number one all time favourite band since I was about 15! I reckon this poor babe will be jumping out of her skin when they start playing!! I went to see a few bands when I was expecting Kate and I remember her moving about a lot while the music was on. I wonder what it actually sounds like from inside!!?

I like the stuff on your website. It must be so great to have your own business. I did some freelance writing for a while and it was nice to be my own boss. I had a contract to supply careers job descriptions to a web-based careers information provider, but as I was working from home I could organise work to suit myself. Have you always worked in the same field? I wish I had a creative side - I have never been any good at drawing or painting or making things. Luckily my girls don't take after me - they are always drawing me lovely little pictures and making things with lots of glue and sellotape....you have all of this to come!!

Sorry to hear about your noisy neighbours. It must be stressful. We have managed to finally find somewhere fairly quiet to live as we have had noise problems in the past. We haven't lived in a flat for a long time, but even in a detached house it is surprising how much noise can surround you. We live in the country now with a field at the back and a canal at the front. It isn't in the middle of nowhere so we do get some noise from traffic etc. but it is quite peaceful. Have you got plans to move? Are you buying or renting?

I seem to have had a busier weekend than normal as I was working all day on Sunday and on Saturday I was helping with the school fair....on the cake stall!! It was good fun, but not the healthiest place to be for a pregnant lady. I managed to resist eating all of the cakes (I said ALL)! I did have to sample some. No wonder I have gained so much weight in the last week!! I look like a giant round meringue!

How are things with you? Are you beginning to feel a bit more settled in your new city/country? Hope things are good. Bestest, Val

Hi there, yeah ultrasounds are lovely experiences! By the way the same author also does a parenting book. I haven't got that yet but intend to.

Asya - Monday, 9 June
Hey! Yeah, it feels like just yesterday i was 6w pregnant and really affraid of having a m/c and now i have a huge belly and it's kicking and punching me every now and then :)
The language barrier is erm... it's there lol! I speak fluent finnish and russian, i can explain myself in english, even tho my english isn't even nearly fluent... i have an accent and a lot of times i forget some words and it wouldn't kill me if i learned some new words either, but i can read books, watch movies and my hubby understands me perfectly, so i guess it could be worse. Unfortunatly when it comes to swedish i can bearly understand it... i understand a bit, just enough to manage in a grocery store for example and pretty much the same goes for arabic, but since my hubby is an arab it's actually even a bit easier cause all his relatives speak arabic and i hear a lot of it. But i hope i'll start learning swedish soon just need to get some papars done first :)
How r u doing? How's the baby?
How's the life in general? Found any friends yet?

Hi Pam, I think the sound of the local hospital research project is great, especially as it doesn't involve having to take anything drug-related. Even better that you get paid for taking part! You sound like such a happy kind of person I think it is hugely unlikely that you would suffer from depression when your baby comes.

Post-natal depression is a dreadful thing to cope with. A friend suffered from it with her baby and she struggled to go out of the house for the first 6-12 months when her baby was born. Anyway, good luck with the project - keep me posted on how it goes!

Glad that your baby is moving about a lot! I have been woken up each night for the last two nights by my little one. I couldn't work out why I was awake when it first happened and then I realised that it must have been caused by all the kicking and punching tha was going on! I got woken up by my elder daughter the night before that needing the toilet and my younger daughter the night before that as she was scared because it was dark. Now its just my husband that needs to wake me up tonight and the whole family will have managed to get me awake! It is good practice for October

How are things with you? Are you working at all? The work you do sounds very interesting...

Well, it is almost the weekend (AGAIN!), hope you have fun. Take care Valerie x

Asya - Thursday, 5 June
I'm glad ur doing good. I'm fine, nothing special... the baby seems to be okay too. We're 5 months soon! :)

EmB17 - Wednesday, 4 June
Sound's just like what every woman needs. Someone thought full of others and not how fast they can deal with you and get you out the door! a I'm so glad you found someone nice.

itsallgood - Wednesday, 4 June
Hi

I know prunes suck...the other alternative is kiwi fruit juice (which I think tstes likes battery acid), um baked beans tend to get you moving one way or another....and the only other thing is no more than 2 slices of bread a day. Bread tends to bind me up if I have more than two slices.
A mug of hot water before bed also helps to have everything ready to go in the morning. Try lemon and honey with it if you can't handle plain hot water (I'm just lazy! so I just put up with hot water:).
You will love the ultrasound, not only seeing bub but partners reactions. Anyone would have thought my husband was a doctor contemplating his next brain surgery patient. He was so serious!LOL I found it soooooo funny ... I call him Dr Wayne now in a very serious tone. Particularly as him and the ultrasound person referred to the bones as their medicinal names and I'm like "so is that the leg or arm?". I think you get a glimpse of child's personality. I discovered mine is not a morning person!!!and does not like to be woken prior to 9.30am, particularly by an ultrasound probe. It has a sense of humor as becuase it got woken up early it made life very difficult. Highly amusing!!
By the way - if you want a funny preggo book - see "up the duff by Kaz Cooke". very funny!!! She writes it from the perspective of a mother with a sarcastic sense of humor. It has me in fits! she wrote one section on questions you get from people like " what do you hope to have? Reply - A giraffe. They're up running around the paddock an hour or so after birth and startng to feed themselves".
Another answer to whether it will be a boy or a girl? Reply "Yes I beleive so, so I've been led to understand. But we're not fussy. We are just hoping for a lifeform of some description".
I love it!

mommyToGirls - Tuesday, 3 June
yeah, there's not much to do in Brampton, it's all just houses basically!

i hear you on the outdoor adventure, I can't wait to take my little one out on the boat this year, we took her last year, but she was just tiny. I can't wait till she's old enough to come tubing with me!

Glad to hear the heartburn is gone, that's great news!!

KarenVG - Tuesday, 3 June
Well girls are alot of un cost more money and make you ears ring as they scream at everything! Boys apparently are more loving...I can see that, Jorja is not a huggie kinda girl yet and it took Shayna a while too but she is now!
If you have a girl you have to know everything about the disney princesses and be big into things like Dora and girlie stuff, if you have aboy you have to learn all the names of trucks loaders and cars and know how things work! So both are fun but most people like you want a girl if they haven't got one! I laugh sometimes on here when they say yay a girl now I can dress her all frilly and pink... well not ALL girls are like that! Shayna is a dressing up girl, Jorja just wants to get into everything so the frills would be a nusicance to her! but that may change I suppose!
I am SO happy your OBGYN is awesome. That will make all the difference in long run. NOw are they like here were they cannot guarantee they will be there for Delivery? Here you get whoever is on duty when you get to the hospital unless you have a scheduled procedure. That is a bummer but the first time (and only time) I was in labour and at the hispital I had a really good male OB on duty. If he wasn't retired I would have probably gone to him the next time. I have a better OB now than the first two times in erms of time keeping. The other one used to keep you waiting over an hour every appointment really annoying. This one is not really spending more than a 2 minute visit in your appointment the Nurse he has does most of it all but really unless I have major questions I am still checked as needed and 3rd time round there is really not a whole lot I need to know!
I have my next appointment next week Tuesday so I think i am getting set up for some stuff as I am RH negative but think it is really too early. I will have to remember to check with them as I have my vacation booked for 6 weeks time to the UK so I have to make sure it is all done around that
Glad you saw your little one, that is always a comfort, and next week is not too far away!
It is great she had an U/S in her office (?) that is something you would not get here that I know of.
Well As for my girls they are great! The youngest is challenging us to temper tantrums but we a dealing with them just hard at 1:30 and 2:30 in the morning when she is mad you are making her go back to bed!!
Shayna was not ever like that so Jorja is a shock to our systems! Paul does not remember his other kids ever doing that either but we know it is from his side as his niece was like it! HA!
Well hope your U/S goes well next week, and if you find out the sex let me know! but Just remember both are fun!

EmB17 - Tuesday, 3 June

U/S news: I am afraid to say we still do not know! I am very Sad Thanks for your thoughs! I have a 3d booked for July14th hopefully I can give you some better news then!

sparklyval - Friday, 30 May
Great to hear that you can feel your baby moving now. Its such a lovely feeling, although kind of strange too. My husband doesn't like it at all...I remember as I got bigger with the first two I used to have to make sure that I slept well away from him so that the he wouldn't get kicked to much!

OMG! Your 1st doctors trip sounded like a nightmare! I hope that you have got some better medical care sorted out now. I think I would struggle to adapt to that kind of system. The NHS may not have the most up to date equipment, but on the whole maternity care here is pretty good.

New York must be an amazing place to live, but I can understand how tough moving to a new country must be. I can't imagine moving anywhere at the moment! Having a family definitely makes the prospect of moving very daunting. We have just accumulated so much 'stuff' over the years of having children. Packing would take at least a year. I can't imagine it. Then you have to think about them changing schools and losing their friends. So I guess we are staying put!

Anyhow, I hope that you and Jeff are beginning to find your feet a bit more. At least there isn't a language barrier too.... my friend from school emigrated to Sweden a few years ago with her two sons and I think she found it quite difficult with language issues (although they do speak quite good English). Have you got some nice neighbours? Do you get anything like antenatal classes later in your pregnancy? They are often a good way of meeting other people in similar situations.

I hope you had a good long weekend last week - here we are nearly the weekend again! Time is passing very quickly.

I can't remember if you said if you were due to get another scan soon? Do you think you will find out the gender of your baby?

Take care
Val x

MommyToGirls - Wednesday, 28 May
Yes, it's weird having two US teams competing for the Stanley Cup this year! Toronto is nice too, I lived in Brampton for a year or so, I miss it there. I love big cities, but I like it here for the nice lakes and camping too. Let me know how the Zantac works for you, good luck!

KarenVG - Wednesday, 28 May
How was your appointment? Did it go well? Was the Doctor nice???/

Asya - Tuesday, 27 May
Hey! How r u doing? Everything good with the baby? :)

itsallgood - Tuesday, 27 May
Hi yeah reasonably well now - still tired! have been doing finishing course to get admitted to practice - finish friday - thankgod! I got a lot of kicks - I reckon it is redecorating my uterus! You know hanging pictures and wallpaper! its an active little thing. But it has big sleeps too! Had 18w u/s and it did not appreciate being woken up! U/s went well! Everything is where it is meant to be etc. We still don't know the sex. I reckon its a boy. Which would be nice but Im happy so long as it is happy and healthy.
For piles - lots of prunes - it is the only way! Trust me I know!
Have you had your 18-20w u/s yet?

MommyToGirls - Monday, 26 May
Hi, congrats on your pregnancy! So where in Canada are you from? I'm in Winnipeg, just waiting for this crazy weather to warm up! I was just reading about your heartburn. I had bad heartburn with my last pregnancy, my OB prescribed Zantac, but you can get it over the counter cheaper in the states. It's safe to take, I had it bad for the last few months and it helped me a lot!

ATE - Monday, 26 May
It was pretty easy not to ask. All i really care about is that the baby is healty. It just gives me something to look forward to while in labor! Good luck with your ultrasound.
