Our Story
February 23, 2009-- found out I was pregnant :o)
May 23, 2009-- Jeremy and I got married! (Planning the wedding for 2010 was out the door, and we planned a beautiful wedding in just 3 months!--crazy!) 4 days before the wedding, I was feeling a little sick... tested positive for Influenza A! With all the swine flu (especially down here in South Texas), the doctor suggested I take TamiFlu (even though it was a "Category C" in pregnancy, the FDA still recommended it!)
June 2009--We traveled to Florida, so I could go take care of my sister, who had surgery. Shortly after our return, I had the FLU AGAIN! This time, it was bad... but I didn't take anything for it... we also had our 20 week follow-up with ultrasound... I was told "You have a perfect baby!"--I loved the news!
July 2009-- nothing new, just had our 24 week follow-up... no ultrasound, just a simple check-up. Things seemed pretty good. However, my doctor called me and let me know that my white blood cells (WBC's) spiked... I was not feeling sick, there was no sign of a urine infection... so we don't know what happened. They went up to 16.9 (which is pretty crazy)! We just kept a close eye on them, and sure enough... they began to fall slowly.
August 2009-- on the 10th of August, we went in for our 28 week sonogram... which is typically just to measure the baby for size. Unfortunately, we were told that babygirl's ventricles were enlarged (approx. 15mm) and she had possible clubbed foot/feet. My OB referred me out to a maternal/fetal specialist, which was scheduled for the 19th of August. We went to that appointment, and (after waiting for 4 hours to be seen) had our detailed sonogram done. We were told that her ventriculomegaly was due to agenesis of the corpus callosum (ACC). We were also told that her left foot was definitely clubbed, and the right foot is strongly suggested (it was just pushing up against the uterus, so technically he can't claim it was clubbed... yet). He also said her hands looked clenched, which according to him is significant for trisomy 18 (Edward's syndrome)... he asked if we've ever seen her hands, and I just can't remember... he also said her stomach (the actual "gut", not the abdominal circumference), looked small... He threw a laundry list of things to me that could be possible--but tried to reassure me that our sonogram with him was simply a single "snapshot" of one day... and we'll see what happens in three weeks on our follow-up. Anyway, I have been left feeling empty and helpless... we have a second opinion scheduled, as well as a fetal echocardiogram to check for heart defects. All I can do right now is hope and pray...
