I have a beautiful healthy six year old little girl. This past June when I was 23 weeks pregnant I woke up at 9:00a.m. and I was having pain in my lower abdomin. At 23 weeks I really didn't think they were contractions, so I sat around the house until my daughter and husband came home. We decided I better go to the hospital because they were getting worse. I went up to labor and delivery and they started me on an IV and antibiotics because I had a urinary track infection and was dehidrated. They thought that this is what was causing the contractions and the IV would make them stop. Well, labor continued to progress. At about 5:00 at night I dialated to a 1. This is when they sent me by ambulance to a hopspital in Detroit that could deal with such premies if we decided to intubate. At 11:23 p.m. I delivered a little girl, which we named Laila. Me and my husband decided not to intubate, because chances of her surviving with no problems were slim to none being born this early. We decided that this was happening for a reason and that we needed to let her go to heaven peacefully. My husband cut the cord, they wrapped her in a blanket, and we held her until she passed. She lived for an hour and seven minutes. We buried her two days later. I know she is our little angel watching over us.
This was by far the hardest thing I have ever gone through. We decided that we wanted to try again right away, but my new doctors (I am considered high risk now, so I am with the high risk doctors) said to wait at least 3 months because they wanted the lining of the uterus to get nice and thick. So we did, because I do not think I could go through something like that again.
I got pregnant right away. I am currently 22 weeks pregnant and nervous as can be.
Because of my preterm labor and delivery this pregnancy is a little different. I have to give myself a shot of lovenox every night and I have to go for a progestrian(sp) shot every week to help prevent early contractions. I also have three major goals that my doctor wants me to hit. The first one is 28 weeks, then 32 weeks, and then 34 weeks. So once I hit 34 weeks they will more than likely take my baby boy, which puts me at June 2nd. So, so nervous, but excited and confident that things will be ok this time around.

March 12th
I had some blood tinged mucus on Sunday. I freaked out, because with my last pregnancy I started having blood tinged mucus at 19 weeks, but it never went away and I ended up going into labor at 23 weeks. Went to labor and delivery at the hospital. Everything checked out ok so they sent me home on strict bed rest. Followed up with my doctor on Monday. They did an ultrasound. Everything is ok, but they found my placenta to be low lying. That `s why they think I had the blood tinged mucus. I also had it at 13 weeks, but it went away until this past Sunday. I have not had any blood tinged mucus since Sunday. I am praying it doesn `t come back. So I `m on bedrest for the duration of this pregnancy.

Boy am I paranoid, but with my history I feel like I have to be!! On Saturday night around 11:00p.m. I ended up going to labor and delivery again. I was laying in bed and I felt my abdomen tightening. I was thinking contractions and I freaked out. Turns out they are just Braxton-Hicks, which is totally normal around this time. I was told to try and relax and drink PLENTY of water. This is week 23 for me so I am sooooo nervous because this is when I went into labor with my last pregnancy. But I have to believe what the doctor's keep saying- that every pregnancy is different. I also have to have faith in God that things will turn out great this time.

Had a doctor's appt. yesterday. All went well . They are still a little concerned with my previous preterm labor and delivery, so they are now starting to see me every two weeks. They checked to see if I was dilated, which thank goodness I am not, and they also checked my cervix, which is long, measuring at 5.7. In two weeks I go for another ultrasound to measure cervical length. Only 4 more weeks to my first goal -28 weeks- yeah!!! Praying that things go well!!

4-4-08
Everything went good at the doctor's today. Had an ultrasound and Xavier weighs 2lbs already! Only 2 more weeks until my 1st goal. I am nervous, but getting excited! I have been freaking out about these Braxton-Hicks, but the doctor said I need to relax, they are normal. As long as they are not regular or painful. I need to go for my Gluecose test in the upcoming week. Fun, fun! Hopefully I can update with good news 2 weeks from now.

4-18-08
Had doctors appt. Everything is good. Passed the Glucose test. Yeah!! They didn't do to much today, since I was at labor and delivery on Wed. and had a thorough exam. I had INTENSE pressure down low yesterday. So intense that I could barely walk. I felt if I got up or went to the bathroom that Xavier would fall out. The doctor told me when I feel like that to lay down, and that the feeling is probably from all the growing and stretching that is going on. I have also been experiencing braxton-hicks and round ligament pain. Some of the braxton-hicks have been pretty strong, not painful, just strong. That is why I went to labor and delivery. While up at labor and delivery, they checked me and I am "closed and thick". They also tested some of my mucus to see if it is likely that I will have labor in the next two weeks and the test came back negative, which means I will probably NOT go into labor within the next two weeks. Thank you God!!! You are good!!! I hit my first goal Monday!!! I am starting to get excited. As of Monday I will be marching toward my second goal, 32 weeks.

5-4-08
Had a very eventful weekend. I had a regular baby doctor appointment Friday morning at 11:00am. They checked me and I was 1 cm dilated and contracting (mind you, these were not painful, and I have been contracting since about 23 weeks). They put me in a wheelchair, took me straight up to the hospital where they had a room ready for me. They hooked me up to the monitors. The baby looked great, but I was contracting often (every 3 to 6 to 4 minutes), but not regularly. This is when the meds started flowing. They gave me so much, but it worked. It pretty much stopped the contractions. Now I maybe get one to two an hour if that. I also received the steroid shots for the baby. I am also now on Procardia (SP) every 6 hours until I deliver. Even tough I am 1 cm dilated, my cervix is still long, which is good and I had that test done again, which came back negative, so chances that I will not have labor within the next 14 days is pretty good. They released me this morning at about 11:00. Once again I am on strict bed rest. I can't even drive. The doctors seem very hopeful that I will make it to my second goal 32 weeks, which is 2 weeks away. I am sure praying I do. God is good.

5-6-08
Was back in the hospital last night with pretty regular contractions. They gave me a shot of Tributaline (sp) which wiped out my contractions, but I have felt a few today. I am home as of now, just nervous that I will start contracting again. The doctors told me that I will be in and out of the hospital. Whatever it takes to have a healthy baby!!!!

5-13-08
Well, since I have been contracting so much, my doctor has decided to put me on a tribulatine(sp) pump which a nurse came out to my house today and hooked me up. I have the injection site in my thigh with a little line hooked up to a pager-like device which holds the meds. I have to put med into the cartridge everyday and change my injection site every 3-5 days. I feel very jittery, but this should subside within a couple of days. The meds also make my heart race a little. After my first "larger dose" my rate was 110. If my heart rate is 120 or over I have a button where I can skip the "larger dose" which automatically releases into me every 4 hours. One side effect is that my little guys heart might beat slightly faster. Poor little guy is probably wondering what is going on. The pump is more of a hassle more than anything else, but if a healthy baby is the end result, THIS IS ALL WORTH IT! Hopefully at 34 weeks I can take the pump off. I'm gonna beg my doctor!

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I hope to try again soon. Thanks for your kind words on my page. Good luck and continue to pray. Everything will be ok.

CArmione - 10.3 hours ago
wow, you're all kinds of taken care of. You're almost there! I still have my prayers going to you. Xavier is a very handsome name. I like that very much.

Nezbit - 21.8 hours ago
Yeah the terbutaline sounds like procardia. Shaky is my middle name. LOL!! The discharge is normal if it is white. I forgot the name of it that we produce and as we get further along there's more of it. I believe I lost my plug a long time ago. It looks like snot (gross) but I am describing it, so anyway kind of like slime and jello like. BUt they say if you lose it early on, it some how makes itself again. I'm not sure if I am making sense. Basically you can lose it early and then it makes itself again and you can lose it again. You can lose it at once or slowly. Oh I went to the L/D today because I was cramping, contracting, the baby didn't have movement for two hours. My lower back was killing me and I felt nauseated, still do. They gave me brethrine( something like that) to stop the contractions. I hate those shots, shaky and jittery. I am still at a 1 which is good and bad. I know I am only 31 weeks, but I want to progress some. I told my husband I want to be atleast a 3 by 34 weeks that way I know for sure I will have him maybe by 37 weeks.

CArmione - 27.3 hours ago
Things have been going well- Nyah is trying her hardest to kick right through my stomach. I have heard about the tributaline making you jittery and that scared me a bit. Pump? as in an inhaler? I have indomethecin should I start having contractions that are frequent and unbearable. If I take more than four without relief then I'm to come in. Yes magical 28 weeks. Thank goodness. I don't remember my son being this active though. I can't wait to meet her. Anytime after 2 weeks I'm ok with her coming. Don't want her until later though- but I feel comfortable if it were to happen, like tomorrow or something. do you have a name picked out yet?

notimecj - 27.9 hours ago
Yeah he picked the due date and will induce 2 1/2 weeks early first of all because my last baby was a premie and because he needs to stop the lovenox 24 hours before i give birth since im a big baby and want an epidural.. otherwise i cant have it... but most of the girls on here who are on lovenox have been told that they will be induced 1 1/2 to 2 weeks early..

mabel - 35.3 hours ago
WELL THANK YOU. IT';S GOOD TO KNOW IT IS NOT JUST ME. THIS IS JUST ANOTHER REMINDER OF HOW HAPPY I WILL BE TO HAVE MY SON ON THE OUTSIDE . LOL

notimecj - Thursday, 15 May
No no,, im due to be induced on the 23rd of June.. So early but not that early, but i'll be induced because of the lovenox shots im taking.. Im sorry to hear your in labor i really hope you can hold out 3 more weeks... are you on strict bedrest???

JennSever - Wednesday, 14 May
hugs to you..how long are they going to make you use the darn thing? if you went into labor right now the baby has an 80% survival rate..sounds great to me! i've been lucky so far - but i told my new dr that if i go into pre-term i don't want it stopped. he just blinked and said "uh ok" he's such a dolt. since all of my kids came early, and they were well-done (i do some great baby cooking) then i don't think i should have too much to worry about.

BabyBennett - Tuesday, 13 May
I've decided that contractions suck! I hope they ease up and you don't end up at the hospital tonight. That is just never a good time. :) They took me off the drugs and bed rest today at the doctor's office! He did a vaginal u/s and my cervix thickness was still at a 3, plus Fridays fetal FN test was negative, so he sees no reason to be concerned and is just thinking that I'm one of those people who will display every sign of pre-term labor without my body actually responding to them. Which, in a way, scares me - will my body respond when it really is time to go into labor? Or, will I be able to recognize when it's time to go to the hospital for real as I'm so used to disregarding all these signs? :) I'm sure it will all be fine. I can't believe that they are still "negotiating" with prices when you are in obvious need of something. Seriously. I hate insurance companies sometimes.

usagi - Tuesday, 13 May
31 weeks, wow, you are doing awesome (although with all the shots and trips to L&D I know it might not seem that way to you LOL)! Just think, your baby already has 3 and a half weeks on Paige. I know preterm labor can be scary, hang in there, the next goal is right around the corner!!!!

BabyBennett - Monday, 12 May
Do you know when you will get your pump? Are things staying stable at least? Keep me updated.

JennSever - Saturday, 10 May
i wasn't on the pump - just massive pills. they didn't have the pump 6+ yrs ago. (thats when i had my last baby) but i have been prescribed the med 3x's so far..i took it during the last 2 mon of all my babies. i have been lucky, so far, with this one. this med. will make you extremely jittery and light headed - just drink lots and lots of fluids to help you stay hydrated. good luck honey

JennSever - Saturday, 10 May
oh sweetie its happening again? i am so sorry. i ve been on that med & if you can just grin and bare it.. i know this is hard. basically, your going to feeling like your constantly drinking coffee - shouldn't be too bad after a few dys. write me if you get lonely..jenn

BabyBennett - Saturday, 10 May
The only med that they have me on right now is the procardia every six hours. I have my first appointment with the regular doctors (saw them first, then the midwife for the last couple of months) again on Tuesday. To be honest I really don't know what they are going to do. I assume that they are going to re-evaluate me after a weekend of bed rest to determine if I should stay on it or not. I don't think that they are considering me high risk, but this doctor's office doesn't say much unless you specifically ask. :( They talked of having me go in twice a week, but only scheduled one visit, so I really don't know what's going on. The midwife has told us many times that she does not do "high risk" pregnancies, but when she transferred us to the other doctor, she just said "I don't do babies before 36 weeks"... And to answer your question - no, they have not given me the steroid shot yet. It's one of those things that I always seem to forget to ask about when I go in. So with this pump that you will have - how does it "pump" into you? Will it be like an IV type thing? I've just never heard of it. It would be comforting to know that you are being monitored all the time though. It seems like it would be a big weight off your shoulders as far as wondering "is this normal?". Here's to keeping our babies safe and sound for a few more weeks!

Nezbit - Saturday, 10 May
Yeah I am mad that I have to stay loopy and dopey taking it every 4 hours. I'm sorry but I have college assignments to do, and sometimes I don't know where to begin because of the medication. Today I have been contracting like crazy and I am going to ask the doctor to check me, I may demand it. LOL!!! I know how you feel about stressing. I stress so much because his head is sooo low and I am dilated and my cervix is soft, abnormal, whatever the doctors call it. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I was told it was both, soft and abnormal. My husband tells me to quit stressing. How am I suppose to do that? We're moving this weekend and any movement I make, makes me hurt. I hope it wokrs for you. Have you looked up side effects or anything on that medication. If it's any worse than procardia, I would not want it. LOL!! I hope it all goes well for you.

Nezbit - Saturday, 10 May
No thank God. I have heard of those. I guess it's because my doctor doesn't mind if I have him at 34 weeks. He's worried about me going early, but he has it set up to send me to a Dallas/Ft Worth hospital if I go before 34 weeks. Good Luck and let me know how that works. I am on Procardia every 4 hours and I don't really think it helps. The doctor says it does and I just don't feel it.

BabyBennett - Friday, 9 May
I went for an unscheduled apt. with the midwife this morning due to cramping and the usual contractions, and she told me that she can no longer be my provider as she doesn't do deliveries before 36 weeks. I'm on bed rest until Tuesday when the doctor will re-evaluate me and determine what to do with me. My exam and tests came back great, but since everything seems to increase with activity, they want to limit it and see what happens. She really didn't say anything about early labor other than that she doesn't do early deliveries and that I should see the doctor now. On Monday (regular apt.) she said I may end up going over my due date, now it sounds like she thinks I'm going to go early... How are things with you?

blessed-in-atl - Thursday, 8 May
I haven't received any steroid shots as my cervix is firm and not dialated, but they have me on bedrest because my cervix is only 18mm long and because the baby's abdomen is small for dates (2 weeks behind) doc said blood flow to the baby is on the low side of normal, I suppose laying around helps the baby gain weight. I have gestational diabetes and they are checking me for signs of pre-eclampsia I should find out the results of all the testing on Monday. I have another ultrasound in 2 and a half weeks to check my cervical lenght and see how baby is growing. My husband has been absolutely amazing, he had a cleaning lady over this weekend, he has been coming home early to cook dinner, going in late on Mondays so he can drive me to the doctor and he is late every other day so I don't have to take my youngest to the bus stop. I feel so blessed.

BabyBennett - Wednesday, 7 May
I'm pretty much in the same boat you are, but I haven't dilated at all. I had some fairly intense cramping on Sunday, but it would go away if I sat down, so I spent most of the day resting. I would have gone to the hospital if it didn't go away when I sat down, but since it did and I had a midwife appointment Monday morning, I decided not to go. She told me to stay on the Procardia every 6 hours until 35/36 weeks, and then they'll take me off of it since it is "safe" for the baby if she comes at that point. She also told me that I need to take it easy - meaning no long walks around the neighborhood or pushing full shopping carts at Meijer (that's when the cramping started). She also questioned me on my contractions and sort of gave me an answer on the difference between BH and the "real" ones that I'm having. She told me that the semi-intense ones that I feel are the real contractions that I need to keep track of and the little ones that I only feel when my hand is on my belly are the BH's. I can't imagine being on complete bed rest - I'm struggling enough just with "taking it easy" and it's only been a day and a half! I seem to be all right as long as I don't stand for very long or raise myself up from a bending/sitting/laying position. That seems to be when the intense contractions start happening. Do you have any idea how many times a day a person "gets up"??? Of course you do - you're stuck in bed, but still - it's tough!

CArmione - Monday, 5 May
well even if you were to have baby now- you would be good to go. I want to at least go another 3 weeks so I can make it to week 30. I'm glad to hear that you were able to get in and get some help to stop things. When they gave you the steroid shot...did it make your heart race any? When I was in high school, I remember taking oral steroids for a nasty chest cold I had and it made me very very jittery and I remember I didn't like it at all.
We had Nyah's baby shower this weekend and it was fun. We got some nice things. Not everything that we wanted- but more than what was expected. I made wayyyy too much food though! I went shopping hungry and that was a HUGE mistake!
Keep me posted on what's going on with you and that baby...

Nezbit - Sunday, 4 May
I am on Procardia every 4 hours. I got the steroid shots at 27 weeks and I have had several shots to stop the contractions. The baby is very low now, so he said I may go into labor in a few weeks. Strict bed rest and well medicated is what I am these days. My contractions are strong because they have made changes. They have dilated me and softened my cervix.

I am glad to hear you are ok.. YOu will make it to 32 weeks because you are meant to have this baby :) Thanks for your input on my shower situation. I decided that I will go along as planned with the double shower. I don;t know her but I have a feeling that if i back out, then that would be wrong and mean of me. I though about it a lot last night and i don't want her to feel left out. But you had a good point about the present issue. I am not sure how everyone is going to feel about that. I am still hopeing everything goes well and we all have a good time. I think that the shower we be as enjoyable as I let it be. If I go in with the wrong attitude, then I won't have any fun, so I am going to enjoy it. Are you haveing a shower??

Nezbit - Thursday, 1 May
I just wonder what now since he is very very low. I know for first time mothers it happens around the 34th weeks when the baby engages, but it is different with those who have had babies. Everyone is telling me that it doesn't mean anything, but I believe it does. He is in place what else can it mean. He will definitely dilate me more if he is in place. They say about 4 more weeks once they engage so we will see. I have had good contractions today ever since the doctor checked me, but I think it's normal after being checked.

babytwowoohoo - Thursday, 1 May
Hi there! Today was a definate relief. My doctor is doing an ultrasound and biophysical profile everyweek to check on how he's doing in there. Because the hemorage was rare there is not much info on it and they want to take all precautions to have it not happen with this one. Therefore, as soon as the lungs are developed, they want to take this one out. It's kinda nice to know when he's being born because the last one came as such suprise. Somehow I managed to gain 5.5 pounds in 3 weeks!!! I have very sporadic weight gain. I didn't gain anything until 2 months ago when I gained 6 pounds in 1 month. The next month I gained 2.5, and now in the past 3 weeks I've gained 5.5! I know it's only a total of 14 but my doc only wants me to gain 20-25 total because I'm already heavy. Maybe that I now weigh in every week I'll be a little better with my eating habits (I have had a dorito binge lately!) I hope all continues to go well with your pregnancy. I wonder when you'll be induced.......
