Thursday 4th October - 9 weeks and 3 days
Have just finished my second week back to work following maternity leave. I'm a registered nurse on a busy medical ward. I've dropped my hours to 2 nights per week or 3 day shifts. I'm on nights just now and i worked on monday and tuesday but i'm off now till next Thursday, i love these part-time hours! It was strange going back but i'm getting used to it again. I hope to work till the end of March and then take 8 weeks holidays before my next maternity leave starts in June 08. I will take another year off as i think it's important to be there for the new baby as well as Ross.
I've lost 4 pounds already since i became pregnant. I have morning sickness most days but it's not too bad. I had extreme tiredness in weeks 5-6 but since then i'm just tired at night now. Breast were sore to begin with but settling down now. I'm quite bloated now but i can't wait for the bump to rise up out of the pelvis from week 12. I loved being pregnant last year and really enjoyed showing off my bump! I also loved feeling Ross move around inside me.
My labour story!
I had a good pregnancy and went into labour 4 days earlier..... on my sister's wedding day! I was her chief bridesmaid and i still managed to do that despite being in labour all day. My waters broke at 4am that morning and back pains started 30 minutes later. I went to the hospital and was kept in for monitoring for 2 hours that morning. After that i had to get my hair put up and my makeup applied. I didn't have any stomach pains just intermittent back pains all day. During the speechs my waters were leaking alot but i tried not to stand too much. I didn't tell my sister until 9pm as i didn't want to detract anything from her big day. I even managed a couple of dances before i left to go back to the hospital at 9.30pm. The midwife kept me in for a couple of hours and then sent me home as i was doing fine......until i got home that is! As soon as i lay down on the settee the contractions were coming almost continuously, the only relief i got was to hold on to the bath! I had hired a TENS machine but that was a huge waste of money as i didn't even want to take it out of the box! We then went back to the hospital and the midwife was shocked when she examined me....I WAS 8CM DILATED, WITH NO PAIN RELIEF UP UNTIL THEN!! I was rushed to the delivery suite and took gas and air which was brilliant, the pains went and you felt like you'd had a bit to drink!! I didn't need any other pain relief and our darling son Ross was delivered 3 1/2 hours later at 5.41am.

Me after 16 hours in labour!! My waters broke at 4am and this photo was taken at 8pm. Ross was born after 26 hours in labour at 5.41am the next day. The strong pains didn't start until 1am, arrived at the hospital at 2am 8cm dilated! Took gas & air only and Ross was born just over 3 1/2 hours later.
Wednesday 10th October 10 weeks 2 days
Nausea easing off again, haven't been sick for a few days. Still feeling tired but no new symptoms. I am craving sweet foods like puddings with this pregnancy, with Ross it was savory foods including parsley!, i used to eat that by the bag!!
Tuesday 24th October 12 weeks and 2 days
Had my second scan last week when i was 11 weeks and 2 days. Here are the pictures!
Have now lost 5 lbs since becoming pregnant! I was the same when i was expecting Ross. My bump is beginning to show, much earlier than the first time! Morning sickness only coming about once a week now and i can also drink milk again, which i couldn't do while pregnant the last time. Now back on day shift and most people at work know about the new baby and they are all pleased for me.

Monday 3rd December 18 weeks pregnant

Your pregnancy: 18 weeks
Head to bottom, your baby is approximately 5 1/2 inches long (about the length of a bell pepper) and she weighs almost 7 ounces. She's busy flexing her arms and legs — movements that you'll likely start noticing more and more. Her blood vessels are visible through her thin skin and her ears are now in position and stand out from her head. Myelin (a protective covering) is beginning to form around her nerves, a process that will continue for a year after she's born. If you're having a girl, her uterus and Fallopian tubes are formed and in place. If your baby is a boy, his genitals are noticeable, though he may hide them from you during an ultrasound.

Friday 4th January
Have had some hip pains for the past couple of months but since last Friday i have developed sciatica. It started after driving the car and i was in agony when i arrived at my mum's after a 10 minute journey. My back and right leg down to my knee was very painful. The pain and nausea with it actually reminded me of labour!! I had to lie down in bed it was so bad. I said to my mum i could have done with some gas & air!
I saw a doctor last monday and was signed of work. I'm registered nurse and i have difficulty bending to change my son's nappy never mind nursing. I was supposed to be on night shift tonight and tomorrow and then days next week but i think i'll still be off then also. I saw a midwife yesterday and she gave me a double tubigrip support to wear from the top of my hips to the top of my bump....extremely sexy !!!! not.... but it has helped with the pain in my leg.
Baby is moving around alot now, i love the feeling the movements. I've only gained 5 pounds so far, so it shouldn't be too hard to get my figure back later.
Your baby now looks like a miniature newborn, checking in at 10.9 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound. Her skin will continue to appear wrinkled until she gains enough weight to fill it out, and the fine hair (lanugo) that covers her head and body is now visible. Her lips are becoming more distinct, and the first signs of teeth are appearing as buds beneath her gum line. Her eyes are developed, though the iris (the colored part of the eye) still lacks pigment. Eyelids and eyebrows are in place, and her pancreas, essential for hormone production, is developing steadily.

Had a nice day with my mum and son. I bought some baby bottles and teats for the new baby and got a new change bag with a voucher i got from boots parenting club. Baby high up against ribs but just giving little kicks, not too sore! Bought some nice cream sheets for the moses basket yesterday and a blanket.
Ross will be 17months old on Saturday! He's been quite clingy with me today, my mum thinks he senses the new baby will soon be here... i love his cuddles, he is very affectionate!

Friday 18th April 37 weeks and 4 days
My mum and i took Ross to the "tadpoles" swimming class at our leisure centre today. He wore his cute red trunks and loved going into the pool. We played in the paddling pool first and he enjoyed going down a slide then we played in the bigger pool with singing games etc. We'll take him to "ducklings" next week as they are for 18 months to 3 years.
Tuesday 22nd April 38 weeks 1 day
Monday 28th April - 39 weeks Only 1 week till due date. Feeling bit nervous now. I've had some mild twinges since Thursday and on Sunday afternoon i had a sharp period like pain for a short time....labour not too far away! Not sure if my mucus plug is coming away as had more mucus in the mornings and it was slightly discoloured yesterday. Baby had hiccups last night, still changing position so can't be too big!! My mum is looking after Ross today to give me a nice rest. We are going down for tea later which will be nice. My dad is making spaghetti bolongnese which will be lovely. Took Ross to "ducklings" swimming on Friday and i think next time we'll just take him to pool and do our own thing as he prefers to play on the slide etc. It'll be after his brother or sister arrives though as Friday is too close to my due date. 39 week bump Hello everyone Well it's Monday 5th May and my due date! I've been having twinges on and off for the last week and a half but labour hasn't started yet. I went into my first labour 4 days early and Ross was born the next day but this baby seems quite happy to lounge around a bit longer. My mucus plug is coming out in the mornings but nothing yet happening. My waters broke first with Ross then the contractions started which were in my back so i'm not sure what will happen this time! I had a good labour and didn't have any pain relief until i was 8cm dilated and then i had gas and air which was very good and took the pain away. I'm not looking forward to the pushing part as it was very sore when Ross's head was born but second babies are supposed to be a little easier to push out....i hope! Ross is having his 2 hour afternoon nap so i'm enjoying the peace and quiet. He will go down to my mum and dad's when i go into labour and they will look after him until baby and i are discharged from hospital. I have group b strep this time which was found during a swab so i have to have intravenous antibiotics during my labour. So i won't have long at home before i have to go to hospital and the sooner you start the antibiotics the better. My bags have been packed for a few weeks now so i'm all set....just have to wait now! Bump at 40 weeks Tuesday 6th May 2008 - He's here! I had my darling baby boy, Owen Robert on Tuesday 6th May at 10.46am weighing 8lb 3oz. Here is my birthstory I went into labour at 9.15pm on Monday 5th May (my due date!). It started with period type pains for about 30mins then at 9.45 i started to have back ache every 4-5mins. I had a bath at 11pm and had a few back twinges during the next 30 mins. I phoned the maternity ward and explained that this was my second baby but as i have group b strep, i was concerned when to go to the ward. I also have an 18 month old son and my mum and dad were to look after him during my labour. They advised me to go to bed and relax but i couldn`t sleep as the pains in my back and now stomach were coming every 3 mins! At 2am my mum and dad arrived to look after Ross and we went to the hospital. Once there my contractions were monitored for 1 1/2 hours but i was only 2-3 cm dilated so i wanted to go home. I went back to bed at 4.30 but couldn`t sleep as the pains got much worse very quickly. They were much more intense than in my first labour. At 7am i got up and went to the toilet where a large mucus plug came out! My hind waters had gone also. I went to the hospital with my husband, John and was in agony in the car! Once there i was given IV Clindomycin and admitted. I was found to be 8cm dilated and rushed to the delivery suite! Like my first birth i had gas and air which really helped. The contractions were much more painful with this birth but the labour was much quicker. I had made up some `labour` CDs of my favourite music which helped me relax also. I was soon 10cm dilated but my front waters were still intact. The midwife who was called Linda broke my waters and my darling baby boy Owen Robert was born after just 2 pushes at 10.46 am! The pushing was painful but better than with my first birth and much quicker. Owen had some oxygen and suction but was soon nice and pink and crying loudly! He's a beautiful baby and we're so proud of him! Sunday 11th May - Owen 5 days old I began to bleed quite heavily this morning after my shower. My back was also a bit painful. Midwife Carol said to observe bleeding contact ward 3 if it persisted. It continued at times during the day and i felt a bit lightheaded at teatime and then contacted ward. I went in for a check up at 1opm and my temperature was found to be high 37.7. I was seen by doctor and had blood tests performed. I was prescribed antibiotics and sent home. Monday 12 th May Owen slept for 6 hours again after 3am feed! I'm feeling bit better although had some more bleeding trickling after shower. Thursday 15th May I've had some abdominal and back pains similiar to endometriosis the last couple of days so Dr Maclean arranged for me to have a scan this morning to see if there was anything left behind after the birth. The midwife performed an internal scan and thought there was some placenta left near the fundus but the consultant Dr Evans scanned me on the top of my stomach and said it was infected debris not placenta. I was pleased as i didn't want to have an operation. I have to continue with the antibiotics. Kirsteen the midwife is coming to see me tomorrow. My bleeding isn't too bad and the pain is less severe today. I'm taking the boys to my mum and dad's to spend the night. John is coming down for his tea also. Owen is going to sleep at about 11pm then sleeping for about 4 hours and feeding then going back to sleep again. The other night he slept for 6 hours in a row! Ross is very good with his baby brother and gives him kisses which is so cute! Tuesday 20th May - Owen 14 days old! Hello again, Can't believe that Owen is 14 days old already! He is doing really well, sleeping for up to 7 hours in a row some nights. Last night he didn't go to sleep until 2am! Angie the midwife thinks he is having a growth spurt as he breastfed alot last night. I'm finished my antibiotics and the bleeding seems to be lessening. My uterus is still palpable and slightly tender, i'll be reviewed again on Friday. Ross loves his new baby brother and often kisses him still. My mum came round this morning which was a great help.
