I am 33 yrs old and expecting my 3rd child. My husband and I have two boys who are 10 and 4 years old. We were (sort of) surprised when I found out we were adding a 3rd child to the mix. We are all now very excited about the newest addition to our family. My 10 year old desperately wants to know if he's having a brother or a sister but my husband and I do not want to know the sex of the baby. I'm hoping for a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery...boy or girl is fine with us, but we can not decide on any names! Hopefully, three's a charm and my labor will go a bit quicker and smoother this time around. Despite all the aches, pains, and emotional roller coaster...it is by far the most exciting time in a family's life! : ) Best wishes to all of you who are experiencing this pregnancy with me!
My Birth Story!!! I am
now home from the hospital with Katherine Elizabeth. She was born on
11-07-07 and weighed 6 lbs. 14 ounces. A little bit about her birth...
My water broke at 1:00 am on Monday night (really... early Tuesday
morning) with a slight gush and then a slow leak throughout the rest of
the night/early morning. My contractions were mild and not consistent
so I knew that I was in for a long haul. My first two children followed
the same birth pattern. I wanted to stay home as long as possible and
avoid spending hours in the hospital. I called my doctor and he agreed
that I could wait. I went to my doctor's office the next morning at
10:30 am (9 1/2 hours after my water broke) and was a whopping 1
centimeter dilated! I was very frustrated b/c I knew that the baby
needed to be born within 24 hours and my body wasn't cooperating
naturally. I left the doctor's office, walked and walked my
neighborhood, drank raspberry tea, ate pineapples, took a hot shower,
shaved my legs, packed bags, and tried to get my contractions going
consistently. By 7 pm I had to go into the hospital where pitocin was
administered to kick my body into action. I so wanted to avoid pitocin
this time, but getting my baby out safely was more of a priority at
this point. I started receiving pitocin at a low drip at 8 pm. The
contractions steadily increased over time. I was working through them
as best I could, but it's difficult when you're hooked up to IV
tubing...your mobility is really limited. My body began fighting the
pitocin (which I knew it would b/c it had in the past) I vomited and
shook but at least my contractions were moving the baby along. I
eventually had an epidural at around 11:30 pm which allowed my body to
rest after some very long hours. I went from 4 centimeters dilated to
10 centimeters after receiving the epidural! I was finally ready to
push the baby out at 1am! The pushing was the easy part...she was a
small baby. I did not tear, need to be cut, or require any stitches. What a relief! :) I gave 3 big pushes with little rests in between and my baby
girl was born. My husband and I were shocked. We have two boys and
didn't know what we were having this time around. I figured we were
having a boy. Her heartbeat was always the same as my boys (low 130s)
throughout my pregnancy, but boy was I sick for the first 4 months of pregnancy! My husband and I are in love with our new baby
girl. She is so sweet and perfect in our eyes. I am truly blessed and in love all over again! Best wishes to all of you who are waiting for your babies and to those who are holding and loving them as I write this. I
am off to breastfeed...a whole new chapter! : )

Tuesday, 29 April Thank you for the response. I was able to eventually clear the plug. I did some research online and found the same info you told me. I even did the diaper thing! But, actually, after working at it nonstop for about 4 or 5 hours, I had to take a break to pick up my son. When we got home, my baby nursed again, and that time, she was able to get it out. This happened all the time with my son, but I don't think it was as painful before. Maybe I just forgot what it felt like. littlecavalier -
Tuesday, 22 April Hi! Thanks so much for your comment. I think the plug must have come out while my son was nursing as I couldn't ever get anything to come out of my nipple. My breast is back to normal size now, it's just still a little sore, probably from all of the massaging, poking, proding, squeezing, etc :-). I was just so afraid of getting mastitis. Your little girl is adorable! I hope you have a great day!! bonnieheather -
Thursday, 17 April i hated the look of the feeding bras - gives you the look of a matronly bosom - not attractive!!! i made the mistake of wearing just a normal sports bra while i was pregnant and i think my boobs suffered so support as much as you can!!
the emma jane range of feeding bras are very good and very supportive and look more like normal bras, just ugly bras!! and i went straight to Freya bras after feeding and they saved the look of my boobs!!! i now leave attractive bras for nights out only!! so make sure you find something that works for you - so you are not left staring at a sad reminder of gorgeous Janet R's
im still in awe how you go running.. thats some motivation!! im getting to the gym today!! hahah i have NO excuse!!
all the best!!

Wednesday, 16 April in that case.. are you wearing underwired bras or tight sports bras??
it could be the impact causing the leak into the cells.. i wouldnt stop running tho!! good effort!!!
wish i had more motivation!! xx

Wednesday, 16 April the flu symptoms are the WORST! i cant see whether you are UK or not but try try avent breast shells- the slip in your bra instead of the absorbant pads. (i should be on commission) they collect milk in little trays in your bra (just little drips) and take the pressure off the ducts a little...
xx bonnieheather -
Tuesday, 15 April i had it loads when i was feeding, the first time is the worst.. you just feel so so ill - you will now recognise when and where abouts on the breast you are developing it, when you see a little red patch developing massage that area as you feed to let down the milk out of the particular duct - its when a duct gets full and stuck it leaks into the other breast tissue and gets sore and the infection can set in.. i thought it was not good for the baby to massage this milk in with the feed but the milk in these ducts is not infected its the area around it that inflames due to it pushing into the other cells , so dont worry about that.. i would just check your breasts for lumpy ducts before a feed and have a little massage on them while feeding.. saves overloading with anti biotics as they can upset babys tummy.
in a way mastitus is a good sign - means you are producing loads and your milk feedback with your baby is good.. i had so much milk i could have probably fed the street!!!!
congratulations on your little girl and congratulations ofrf being a breastfeeding mummy!!! MELISSAW. -
Friday, 28 Mar Hey... how are you? I would say as long as she can breathe, continue with cereal. :-) dhulse0876 -
Monday, 17 Mar I was wondering what you ended up doing your baby's room in since she was a girl. Isabella loves her room, made some improvements on it while waiting for her to come. Now I am pregnant again...ooops. Due Nov. 11th. Katie is adorable, congrats!!! MELISSAW. -
Friday, 14 Mar HELLO! My Space is like one more thing to maintain right now. I really have not had a chance to really enjoy it. That is why I really enjoy this site... it is quick blurbs and so much easier to respond. Maybe I will get the hang of it. :-) So, how is your little girl doing? Is she sleeping any better? To this day, my older son is still a terrible sleeper. He still has a tuff time falling asleep and sleep walks. The sleep walking thing scares me. You never get used to that. Interesting hah? Well, got to go! nikkin -
Sunday, 9 Mar hi ya - i saw your post about your little one eating rice, try and mix up roughly 1 oz of milk with rice and see if she will take it all, it will make a big difference to her sleeping - good luck xx MELISSAW. -
Sunday, 9 Mar Ooooh, congrats on the cereal! She must be a super light sleeper to be waking that often. My first was like that. It took forever for him to sleep through the night... I was depressed and exhausted by the time it happened. And at some point, I had to do a little tough love and let him cry it out. (But he was older.) Hang in there. Soon. :-) MELISSAW. -
Saturday, 1 Mar Co-sleeping, a hot topic? Who knew? LOL! Boy, was I crabby this morning too! How are you doing? I had Gymboree this afternoon, it was too fun! Is there anything like that local to you? kristeylouise -
Tuesday, 19 Feb Nothing yet. My friend is beyond bridezilla! We went to try on bridesmaid dresses this past weekend. We tried on over 60, picked two that we liked. And her fiance said he didn't like them we had to start over. What does the groom care what the bridesmaids wear?! grr..I'm ready to drop out of the wedding! kristeylouise -

Wednesday, 13 Feb I just read your message and they suggested easter or the week after which happens to be my birthday so maybe then. :) MELISSAW. -
Thursday, 7 Feb By the way, Katie is so cute! Does she really like that thumb? My guy is chewing on his fingers like CRAZY! I wonder if he is starting to teeth! How are your boys doing with the baby? I actually let my 11 year old feed Evan the other day. I think it helped them bond more. kristeylouise -
Thursday, 7 Feb Thanks for the comment on the wedding situation. Thats nice that you've got the opportunity to have your pretty daughter with you on the day. I might just tell my friend she'll have to deal with it and hire a sitter to stay in the hotel with me. o0kathryn0o -
Monday, 4 Feb Thanks for the encouragement! So many people look at me funny and do the uh-oh's when I tell them she sleeps with me and I nurse her to sleep. They all say I'm in for it later. But I keep thinking, so what, I'll worry about that when it comes, right now, I'm enjoying her as a baby who loves to be close to her mommy :o) It'll be over before I know it. BTW, your girl is beautiful and I love the name. That's how I spell my name. Take care of yourself and baby! MELISSAW. -
Wednesday, 30 Jan Hello lady! How are you doing? We are alright. My buddy has a terrible cold. I took him to the Docs and she said there is nothing safe for babies to take anymore, so just use saline in his nose so he can breath. I wonder why all the cold meds for babies were pulled? I hope my buddy doesn't suffer more from this than he would have. Such a bummer. I have become the human tissue!!! Man, your little girl is so cute! I am enjoying every second. :-) MELISSAW. -
Friday, 4 Jan Caught you! I am typing with one hand also... stinks. Are you going to continue to stay home with Katie? Where are more pictures? :-) MELISSAW. -
Monday, 31 Dec Hey! How are you doing??? Jamiekid -
Friday, 21 Sep My teaching job is GREAT! I LOVE going to work everyday (though it does exhaust me much quicker). I am teaching a really weak group of grade nines and a group of grade tens so it's a lot of work but so rewarding. Awww thanks! I have become really swollen the past two weeks or so, so that has been rough and I now have a really bad sinus infection so I feel really run down... About 7 weeks left! I am soooo excited!
