I am 33 yrs old and expecting my 3rd child. My husband and I have two boys who are 10 and 4 years old. We were (sort of) surprised when I found out we were adding a 3rd child to the mix. We are all now very excited about the newest addition to our family. My 10 year old desperately wants to know if he's having a brother or a sister but my husband and I do not want to know the sex of the baby. I'm hoping for a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery...boy or girl is fine with us, but we can not decide on any names! Hopefully, three's a charm and my labor will go a bit quicker and smoother this time around. Despite all the aches, pains, and emotional roller coaster...it is by far the most exciting time in a family's life! : ) Best wishes to all of you who are experiencing this pregnancy with me!
My Birth Story!!! I am
now home from the hospital with Katherine Elizabeth. She was born on
11-07-07 and weighed 6 lbs. 14 ounces. A little bit about her birth...
My water broke at 1:00 am on Monday night (really... early Tuesday
morning) with a slight gush and then a slow leak throughout the rest of
the night/early morning. My contractions were mild and not consistent
so I knew that I was in for a long haul. My first two children followed
the same birth pattern. I wanted to stay home as long as possible and
avoid spending hours in the hospital. I called my doctor and he agreed
that I could wait. I went to my doctor's office the next morning at
10:30 am (9 1/2 hours after my water broke) and was a whopping 1
centimeter dilated! I was very frustrated b/c I knew that the baby
needed to be born within 24 hours and my body wasn't cooperating
naturally. I left the doctor's office, walked and walked my
neighborhood, drank raspberry tea, ate pineapples, took a hot shower,
shaved my legs, packed bags, and tried to get my contractions going
consistently. By 7 pm I had to go into the hospital where pitocin was
administered to kick my body into action. I so wanted to avoid pitocin
this time, but getting my baby out safely was more of a priority at
this point. I started receiving pitocin at a low drip at 8 pm. The
contractions steadily increased over time. I was working through them
as best I could, but it's difficult when you're hooked up to IV
tubing...your mobility is really limited. My body began fighting the
pitocin (which I knew it would b/c it had in the past) I vomited and
shook but at least my contractions were moving the baby along. I
eventually had an epidural at around 11:30 pm which allowed my body to
rest after some very long hours. I went from 4 centimeters dilated to
10 centimeters after receiving the epidural! I was finally ready to
push the baby out at 1am! The pushing was the easy part...she was a
small baby. I did not tear, need to be cut, or require any stitches. What a relief! :) I gave 3 big pushes with little rests in between and my baby
girl was born. My husband and I were shocked. We have two boys and
didn't know what we were having this time around. I figured we were
having a boy. Her heartbeat was always the same as my boys (low 130s)
throughout my pregnancy, but boy was I sick for the first 4 months of pregnancy! My husband and I are in love with our new baby
girl. She is so sweet and perfect in our eyes. I am truly blessed and in love all over again! Best wishes to all of you who are waiting for your babies and to those who are holding and loving them as I write this. I
am off to breastfeed...a whole new chapter! : )
