Friday, 16 May I think that I was pumping about 3-4 times per day when I would pump 5 ounces. Or I could pump that much if I skipped a feeding (e.g., left my baby at home with my mom while the baby was napping and needed to eat within the next few hours). Now I am pumping about once a day and pump 2-4 ounces depending on how recently my baby had eaten. shashi -
Thursday, 15 May When can my baby go in a pool? When is it safe to bring baby in pool? Expert Answers Even pools that look pristine harbor dangers for infants. 'For newborns younger than 2 months we really worry about immunity — how vulnerable babies are to illness — so I recommend that parents not take their young infants into swimming pools, lakes, the ocean, and so on,' says Howard Reinstein, a pediatrician in Encino, California and a spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics. Pools can easily be contaminated with bacteria that cause diarrhea, which can be very dangerous for a young infant. Also, because your baby won't be able to regulate his body temperature until he's around 6 to 12 months old, you need to make sure the water's warm enough for him. 'If the water feels chilly to you, it will be really cold for your baby,' Dr. Reinstein says. The pool should be at least 84 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit for your baby to be comfortable. If he starts shivering, it's time to get out of the water. Too much heat can be a problem, too. Hot tubs, spas, and pools heated to more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit are off limits to children younger than 5. Young children overheat more quickly than adults and the high temperatures in hot tubs can cause a child's heart to race or pose other dangers.. Finally, think about water safety. Drowning and near drowning are leading causes of death and injury for young children. Keep the following safety tips in mind when you're around any body of water with your child.. • The AAP advises that you practice 'touch supervision,' meaning that an adult needs to be within arm's reach of an infant or toddler at all times in or near a pool or any body of water. • Always hold your baby in the pool and don't go in water too deep for you to maintain firm footing. • Teach your child to walk — not run — when he's near a pool and that he must never enter the water without an adult nearby to supervise. • Get your child a U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device (PFD) that fits properly and have him wear it at all times in and around water. (The U.S. Coast Guard publishes a list of manufacturers that make PFDs for young children on its Web site.) Hope this helps.

Thursday, 8 May My baby is 5 weeks and one week ago hewent from having 3-4 messy diapers in one day to having 1-2 every 3 days. My pediatrician said as long as he is having at least 6 wet diapers it is normal. Good luck! MzMommy2B -
Thursday, 8 May My son never had that problem at 4 weeks, but when he was a week old he would only go every 2 days... If you think it is bothering her, get some rectal infant glycerin suppositories. You insert it just a tiny bit into their butts, and the poop will come right out and make them feel sooo much better! It is safe for newborns as well. My son is now 6 weeks, but I used it on him as per the PED at 2 weeks. Good luck! ROXAPIT -
Wednesday, 7 May I had the same issue with a sleepy baby... nurses told me not to let her go more than 3 hours. I finally talked to her doctor at her 2 week visit and she told me to let her go 5 (but no more than 6 -- something about their blood sugar dropping) hours at night and that would be fine... I actually found that it helped because she was actually hungry when she woke, and would get a good feed.... lauren8681 -
Wednesday, 7 May if your baby is gaining weight and having enough dirty diapers then let her sleep , she will wake up when shes hungry. :) collsbaby -
Tuesday, 6 May i was waking my baby up to feed every 2=3 hrs when she was about 2 weeks old. she's now 5 weeks. it was making both of us neurotic! so now i just let her sleep. she'll wake up when she's hungry. that is one of their basic instincts. it works out better for us if I let her control her schedule and i just feed on demand. and if i feel engorged then i'll pump in between. but i read something that said by this time they could be sleeping 6-7 hours at a stretch. you have to do what works for you and your baby. you both need your sleep. if you are worried about your milk supply, then just pump every 2-3 hrs. mom2boy -
Tuesday, 6 May Is your baby gaining weight? My Dr told me don't bother waking my baby up since he has already been able to prove he is a good eater by gaining weight. Although it wouldn't matter if I woke him up every 3 hours because he beets me to the punch on that one anyway. Jo-Mama -
Tuesday, 6 May There are lots of opinions on waking your baby up to feed. There are probably just as many thoughts on both sides. I think you should just do what feels right and what works for you. If your baby falls asleep while feeding and isn't getting enough food, then take off her socks, or even feed her naked (with a diaper). I had a friend who had to put wet washcloths on her daughter to keep her awake during a feed.
Do what works and good luck. Oops-i-did-it-again -
Tuesday, 6 May I was told by my doctor to never waks a sleeping baby, they will eat when they are hungry. Unless your baby isn't gaining weight or something like that let her sleep!!! Trinabear18 -
Tuesday, 6 May We put our son on the boppy, and that's how he gets his tummy time. He can also lift his head and try to look around. I think time is going by so fast. Is the pumping getting any better? Trinabear18 -
Monday, 5 May Hey how is your baby sleeping and what activities is you and baby doing? Have you started tummy time? Trinabear18 -
Monday, 5 May I pump when the milk lets down. I usually pump about 5 times a day! Lay your baby skin to skin on your chest, this will help with milk let down and production. Peach -
Sunday, 4 May My baby will be four weeks old on Monday, and I often pump around 5 ounces. Hope that helps! Trinabear18 -
Sunday, 4 May hey I only punp. he does not like to latch on properly. I get about 3 1/2 to 4 ounces each breast each time pumped. Milk is really coming in now. Make sure you are massaging your breast. manda21 -
Saturday, 3 May I just started pumping last week but i am still feeding on the breast the majority of the time. Now I am getting about 3 ounces in ten minutes off one breast. Then I do the other for another ten. Last week I was pumping for like 20 minutes and only gettign two ounces...the more you pump, the more will come! Jo-Mama -
Saturday, 3 May I pump my left breast and my daughter eats from the right one. The left nipple is inverted and she won't have anything to do with it.
Every day I get a different amount pumped. It depends on how often I do it. If I pump twice a day (only one breast) I'll get about 6 oz. It's usually about 3 oz per pump (it takes about 10 minutes). Some days I get 4 or 5 oz first thing in the morning, other days I can't get more than 2. It seems better if I drink a lot of water and stay relaxed.
I was pumping 4 times a day, but now that my husband is back to work I just can't get that much time. So I pump when I wake up, when my husband gets home, and if I remember, before I go to bed. I have had to pump in the middle of the night on those days when I didn't pump enough during the day and I get all engorged. candin -
