It's a BOY!! Evan Dale
My profile
I'm the mom of two little boys, ages 2 and 1 year. My husband and I are expecting our 3rd child in early November. We are very excited and a little scared because I was diagnosed the hypothyroidism after my second child was born. I'm learning to deal with it and the side effects. It was surprising that we got pregnant so easily b/c I was told it would take longer due to the thyroid problem. We are so blessed and are thankful for all of our children.

Thursday, 14 August Well, I went for my dr's appointment today and they put me on a monitor to see how many contractions i was having...i had 5 there at his office he also ordered a urine culture and said that I was dehydrated. It turns out that I have gestational diabetes and that is also what is causing my contractions....I have now been put on the "high risk" catagory.
I have never had problems before and not over wieght...this is my 5th pregnancy. sonia -

Tuesday, 10 June I am also pregnant with number three and have the same thing going on. I went to the docs for it when it first started about two weeks ago and everything was okay. They just told me to keep track of them and if I have more then 5 in an hr to call them other wise if they are bothering me to relax and push back ALOT of water. I hope this helps some...and good luck!

Tuesday, 27 May I have a thyroid problem too. It was diagnosed a few years ago. I take medications every day for it. My Dr just told me that he would be checking my thyroid levels regularly while I am pregnant and he has already increased my dosage twice since we conceived. He said that he might need to increase it again later. He said that this is totally normal. Other than that, he didn't indicate that my thyroid would cause any problems for the baby. Hope this helps. :-) tiannam -
Monday, 26 May Yes, breastfeeding is fine while taking synthroid. As far as I know, the thyroid hormones do cross into the breastmilk in small amounts, but there have been no known adverse effects on humans during breastfeeding. I breastfed with my second son, and he is now 5 and has no health issues whatsoever. My doctor has never been concerned with it. They just monitor your hormone levels a little closer during pregnancy and breastfeeding, because if your thyroid goes a little too far out of whack, then you may run into issues with fetal development. Thyroid hormones are supposed to be in your body, and your childs'....it's probably one of the safest meds to be taking...if you need it.... Anyway, take care and good luck. and this is a useful site..for pharmacists...gives you all the info you need on it: http://www.drugs.com/mmx/levothyroxine-sodium.html firstimema -
Saturday, 24 May hey there,
I have been treated for hypothyroidism since I was 13 and I have been taking Oroxine since then. I have told the doctors that I have the condition as a result of lack of THS (thyroid stimulating hormone) and they were not concerned as everything else was fine. How ever, they have to monitor the level during the pregnancy and may have to increase the amount of meds I take because you need a greater amount of iodine to insure developed neuro functions of the baby during pregnancy. Tiannam is right with seaweed but another suggestion is to use iodised salt rather than normal salt as it does the same job (as long as your sodium levels are ok though). Good luck... and don't worry, just make sure levels are monitored. ;) tiannam -
Friday, 23 May Hi, I read your comment on the 16 week page. I also have hypothyroidism, and am on my third pregnancy, third child, at 16 weeks. I have never heard of any big issues with this condition. My doctor has me on thyroid medication though, synthroid, and I have been on this since I was trying to conceive with my second, and we figured out that I wasn't ovulating because of my thyroid. I've probably had the issue all my life, but never knew it. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that it's very easily managed with meds, and you probably shouldn't worry too much. Also, Seaweed can help regulate your thyroid naturally, because of the high iodine and mineral content... crystalmommy3 -
