Monday, 6 October Message to all This may be interesting to some of you. Seema`s email is seema.modhvadia@rdftelevision.com
Hi there,
I work for a television production company based in the UK . We are currently making a documentary for ITV1 exploring the issues surrounding pregnancy and eating disorders. The film will be a thoughtful and insightful look into this extremely sensitive subject.
We’re in the research stage of our production and very keen to chat to women who are, or have been, pregnant whilst having an eating disorder.
If you’re interested in having a chat or finding out more about our documentary, it would be really great to hear from you. All communication would be in complete confidence.
You can contact me on: seema.modhvadia@rdftelevision.com

Monday, 14 July 9 lbs? Ouch!
You never know. I would imagine baby size is more determined by mommy, so don't be too scared! It might be because of the diabetes that your little girl is a little plump, or she could just be a happily well-fed baby! Either way, don't worry. Trust your body. Know that you were perfectly designed just for her, and your birth will be a beautiful experience. If she ends up getting too big for a natural birth, trust that the doctors know exactly what they are doing, and let yourself relax into their capable hands. I firmly believe that stress affects pregnancy in many different ways. You can't control how much bigger your wee one gets, so do your best to relax and embrace the rest of the process. So little time left!
I'm not sure about my wee one. I have an appointment on Thursday, and I believe my doc said that he is going to do an ultrasound, so I'll let you know if my little one is a little butterball too! That's the main reason I am trying to keep my levels at bay...baby size. I know if baby gets too big, a homebirth would not be wise. I am okay with that, but it is definitely not my preference! My levels aren't high enough for concern about baby's insulin levels or possible preeclampsia for me. So here's to no sugar for mommy, very little bread, and nopales at every meal!
Mama wants to bring baby into the world in our comfy little house. Let's see if he/she cooperates!

Monday, 14 July Not really actually, my levels seem to be pregressively getting better, but I was also very marginal to begin with. I've only noticed my numbers spike after a good amount of carbs, and really any carbs at all in the morning. I've completely cut out my sweets
but all for baby right?
Mine is only minor gestational diabetes, diagnosed at about 30 weeks.
I must say, though, that I have noticed a HUGE difference since I have been eating nopales. Nopales are an old Mexican remedy for diabetes (and actually a pretty common food just in everyday life for my family) It is cut up, steamed cactus leaves. A bit of an acquired taste, but not nasty I swear! I eat about the amount that would fit in the palm of my hand at every meal. Since I have been eating them, I haven't had a single one hour reading over 120. I tested it the other day by eating about a fist size of fideo (angel hair pasta with the same flavor as spanish rice) meat, beans, and 2 corn tortillas. I had nopales before I ate, and my one hour reading was 116.
I would not recommend anything drastic if you have been put on medication or insulin, but it seems to work for me. I don't care too much for the flavor of the nopales that are sold bottled in the store (in pretty much any "hispanic foods" section of the supermarket) but if you have a large latino community near where you live, you can find fresh cactus leaves at any hispanic ranch market. Just cut up the leaves (they usually remove all of the spikes for you beforehand) into strips, and steam. I just cut up an onion and some tomato, and squeeze some lemon over it all. Salt to taste. Can't make any guarantees, but I did do some research, and found that nopales have been shown to slow the body's absorption of carbohydrates, thus helping to control mild forms of diabetes.
A bit of a disclaimer, though. This is all when nopales are consumed in the food form. I believe that you can get "nopal" in tincture or supplement form, and this is NOT good for pregnant or breastfeeding women. WAAAAAY to concentrated for baby's little system. Hope this info helps! Keep me posted, and let me know if the nopales help you out if you decide to try them!

Saturday, 31 May Oh!! And I forgot to mention, with this wretched diet, one good thing came about with it. I only gained 12 lbs. the entire pregnancy! I was wearing my old jeans in less than 2 weeks. That was pretty great too. :) ColtonsMom -
Saturday, 31 May Hi Bebeek!! :)
I had Gestational Diabetes with my last pregnancy. Our son is now 9 months old and we're having another little boy on Oct. 8th.
I think the biggest bummer about the GD was the diet I had to follow. Counting every carb and making sure to eat 5 times a day... oh and testing my blood levels 4 times a day was no picnic either but the alternative to following the strict diet was taking insulin shot. Luckily, I kept everything under control. I'm 21 weeks now and though my blood surgar levels tested a little high, the Dr. said I didn't have to do anything until we test again around week 26... I'm keeping my fingers crossed I don't have it again.
Something else you'll have to look forward to (sarcasm) is weekly or even twice a week visits to the OBGYN for "stress tests" - they'll want to monitor you more closely since you have GD. Don't worry though, that's not for about another month or so but you do get sick of your visits. I was also hospitilazed a couple of times because I was having contractions. (I never felt them, they just showed up on the monitors.)
One cool thing (at least in my opinion) was because of the GD, I was induced the beginning of week 38. Not having to go the full 40 weeks was great!
If you have any spacific questions, feel free to drop me a line anytime. - Best, Cindy peanutsmommy1 -
Saturday, 31 May I just took my glucola test yesterday. People warned me that the drink was GROSS but I kind of liked it..hehe tasted like orange soda. Therefore, i dont know if I have it but I have defiately had one heck of a sweet tooth! YOu know that if you have it you are at risk for getting diabetes after your pregnancy?? Id cut down on your concentrated sweets and get a lot of exercise to protect yourself and your baby during this time. kasey9533 -

Friday, 21 Mar High blood pressure is quite common during pregnancy. I have been blessed so far, but my best friend had extremely high pressure. She was on medication which is prefectly safe. She stressed about everything and ended up having a cessarian a month early. So please take it easy and don't worry about the medication, it's harmless. cjmc2577 -
